Travel: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

14 January, 2016 Nelia

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to visit Hawaii. Over the years, I’ve been to many beach resorts, but Hawaii, with its volcanoes, hula skirts, and luaus, remained a dream. There were many excuses – the distance, the cost, never enough vacation days. But last year, I finally decided that it was time, and so le bf and I packed our suitcases and set off on a Hawaiian adventure.

After doing a bit of research, we decided on Maui’s Kaanapali Beach – a beautiful stretch of waterfront a stone’s throw away from Lahaina Town, Whalers Village, and Black Rock. After reading reviews for several properties, we decided on Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, and what an awesome choice it was!

We arrived at our hotel at night, jet-lagged and sleep-deprived, but from the moment we stepped inside, we knew we were going to have a great stay. Check-in was a breeze, and once we got our keys, we took a stroll through the beautiful open-air courtyard, with twinkly lights everywhere, and headed to our room. The room itself was well-appointed and very spacious. But we didn’t really appreciate its awesomeness until the next morning, when I opened the blinds and was greeted with a spectacular view of the ocean, palm trees, and the resort. The view did not get old the entire stay – each and every morning and evening I walked out on our balcony feeling grateful and in awe of the beauty we were surrounded by.

Travel: Deerhurst Getaway

6 November, 2015 Nelia

This may sound whiny, but the truth is – Toronto fashion week is exhausting. Attending shows on top of my daily 9-5 job is not all fun and games; there’s so much waiting around, running around, and standing around, without much time to sit down and have a proper meal, it’s no wonder I catch a cold each and every season. Well, this time, I planned ahead and organized a fun getaway to Muskoka with two of my blogger buds. Having heard amazing things about Deerhurst Resort, our goal was to pamper ourselves after a week of working non-stop, surrounded by nature and fresh air. And boy, did we get everything we expected and so much more! With stunning vistas straight out of a painting all around us, comfy 3-bedroom condo to kick off our heels in, delicious food, and magical massages – it was a weekend to remember.

Read on for a full review of our Deerhurst Resort trip – from rooms, to food, to spa treatments – everything you need to know to plan your own mini-getaway.

Rooms
With three fashion girls travelling together, separate bathrooms were non-negotiable, so when we checked into our 3-bedroom condo, we were pleased to see that each room came with a full separate bathroom – tub and all. Each room came equipped with its own TV as well. And while we were happy to have individual bathrooms, the condo could have easily fit up to 8 people. The beds were ridiculously comfortable, to the point where it became nearly impossible to get up in the morning…I could’ve lazed in bed all day!

Our condo also had a balcony with Muskoka chairs and a killer view, full kitchen (with a large fridge, stove, and a coffee machine), cozy living room complete with a comfy couch, fireplace, and a flat-screen TV. It was a perfect cottage alternative in Muskoka for those that like to have more amenities at their fingertips.

Food
Over the course of our stay, we got to visit 2 restaurants – the more casual Maple Pub & Patio, and the fancier Eclipse Dining Room, with stunning views of the resort. All meals we had were great, but our steak dinner and buffet brunch at Eclipse were the most memorable. After a long day of driving to Muskoka, and then getting pampered at the spa (tough life, I know!), we were ravenous, so we ordered a bottle of Prosecco and three steaks, celebrating the end of fashion week and our first proper dinner all week. We also indulged in a delicious Quebec cheese platter and cheesy bruschetta…can you see the pattern? I wanted to hug Deerhurst’s Executive Chef David Bakker, that’s how happy the food made me feel.

And it only got better – in the morning, we were treated to a never-ending buffet brunch, where we noshed on smoked trout, made-to-order omelettes, eggs benny, beef ribs, various pastries and the most delicious desserts (whatever you do, try the bread pudding!), and so much more. I lost count of the number of times I went back for more, but let’s just say I wasn’t hungry for the rest of the day.

Spa
Since our main goal was to relax and pamper ourselves, spa time was mandatory. Shizen Spa at Deerhurst had everything we needed – lockers, steam room, showers, and of course, MASSAGES! We loved our treatments so much, we went back again the next day. Both RMTs did a great job on my tense back muscles, and the paraffin wax treatment left my feet soft as a baby’s. After getting our steam on in the sauna, we went downstairs to cool off in the huge hotel pool.

Resort
Having never visited Muskoka in the fall, I finally got to see what the hype was all about. The weekend we were at Deerhurst, the trees around the resort were painted in rich fall colours – yellow, red, orange as far as the eye can see. And that’s on top of the manicured golf course, and a sandy beach with Muskoka chairs overlooking the Peninsula Lake. Despite the cooler temperatures, we enjoyed a lovely walk, taking a million photos of the foliage…none of them as good as the actual thing in front of us. I can only imagine how fun it must be to visit Deerhurst in the summer – with all the watersports and other fun activities at your fingertips.

After spending our weekend at Deerhurst Resort, the girls and I had a tough time heading back to Toronto…we all wanted to spend just a little more time in Muskoka.

CHANEL is Coming to Cuba!

15 October, 2015 Nelia

It’s been announced this week that the highly-anticipated CHANEL Cruise 2016/17 collection will be presented in Havana, Cuba on May 3rd. Not to brag, but I called it! Well, technically, I guessed the Latin American part of the equation – seeing how there’s never been a CHANEL resort show inspired by a Latin American country before, my senses were telling me that the next cruise collection was going to be shown in Mexico or perhaps Peru, but Cuba totally makes sense. “The cultural richness and opening up of Cuba is a source of inspiration for Karl Lagerfeld and CHANEL” reads the press release, and while I think Havana is going to serve as a gorgeous backdrop for a fashion show, the poverty that I have encountered on my last two trips is certainly going to provide a bit of a shocking contrast.

Last couple of times in Havana, my travel companions and I were swarmed by children and women, begging for pencils, soap, anything really. Luckily, I was prepared, and had a lot of small things to give away. Once in a while, when I am being particularly ungrateful, thoughts of those people flood my thoughts and remind me to be more appreciative of the things we have. Hopefully, with the US loosening travel restrictions and economic policies, and with notable brands like CHANEL injecting money into the local economy, as well as re-awakening interest in tourism to Cuba, quality of life on that beautiful Caribbean island is going to slowly improve. In the meantime, I can’t wait to see what Karl Lagerfeld will dream up for this collection! I anticipate a lot of vibrant colours, inspired by the colourful architecture of Havana, fun coco taxi purses, ruffles, and headscarves.

What do you think of the upcoming CHANEL show in Cuba? Share your thoughts in the comments.

What I Wore: Pink on Pink

Even though it was only a few weeks ago, it feels like it’s been ages since our trip to New York for NYFW. And while the trip itself was mostly for work, we still managed to grab a few outfit pics to share on the site. I am especially happy to share them because of my new-ish rainbow hair colour, which sadly looks very faded at the moment.

The cool thing about having unicorn hair is being able to make any outfit stand out. I can choose to wear all-black-everything, or go all out and rock the most vibrant things I can find in my wardrobe, and no matter what – it all looks exciting with my pink/purple/blue/yellow locks. Makes getting dressed a lot more fun!

This outfit is quite obviously not all-black, and I love the way the pink and purple stripes go so well with my hair…even le bf grudgingly admitted that he liked this look, which NEVER HAPPENS! So in my books that’s a triple win…even if I did have to suck in my stomach all day long. Please remind me to never buy any more bodycon dresses, no matter how cute!

CHANEL Airlines Spring 2016 Collection

6 October, 2015 Nelia

chanel-airlines-spring-2016-collection-luggage-19
If all airports were as chic as the one created at the Grand Palais for the CHANEL Spring 2016 show, people would certainly choose to fly more often. And if all airport attire was as chic, the world would be a much prettier place. Those were my thoughts as I was scrolling through photos of the CHANEL Airlines collection, dreamed up by Karl Lagerfeld, and presented in Paris this morning. Models strutted around the Paris-Cambon Airport, some stopping in to check-in and drop off their luggage. Speaking of those gorgeous luggage sets… There was a variety of travel bags presented – pristine white leather rolling suitcases (ummm…a bit impractical, perhaps?), printed nylon ones, and my fave – black quilted leather with white trim and yellow accents. I would probably have to sell my firstborn in order to get my hands on one of those, but if you travel enough, it may be worth it…priorities, people!

From those covet-worthy luggage sets, to the quirky airplane brooches, to light-up sandals – the Spring 2016 collection was not short of statement pieces, au contraire – there was so much to look at and so many details to take in, that it was a bit overwhelming. The collection itself was great – iconic tweeds, ethereal watercolour prints, origami-like details, and of course, airplanes everywhere from brooches to knitwear. Being a colour-lover that I am, I was drawn to the more vibrant pieces from the collection – pink and yellow tweed jumpsuit, multicoloured tweed bag, and most of the white dresses with floral detailing were all calling my name, but realistically speaking, I will probably be on the hunt for one of those fun airplane brooches once the collection hits the stores.

What did you think of CHANEL Airlines collection? Are you a fan? Share your fave pieces in the comments.

What I Wore: Not Activewear

A couple of weeks ago, a few of my blogger besties and I set off on a late-summer adventure trip with Ford Canada. You can read all about it here, but in a few words – it was an active weekend! Knowing that we had some challenging activities ahead of us, I had a bit of a tough time packing…I didn’t want to wear activewear, and wanted to be comfy but also look cute on our many adventures, and so I went with a combination of a trusty striped tee, my fave Zara skort, a pair of comfy Nike Air Max sneakers, and a jaunty red scarf from H&M to add a bit of flare to my look. I have to say, apart from those few minutes in a ziplining harness, I felt good in my attire, and so we ended up taking a few photos as proof that active weekends do not have to automatically mean yoga pants. It helped that I was totally colour-coordinated with our stylish 2015 Ford Focus Titanium…we don’t mess around!

So tell me, what do you usually wear on active weekends? Do you reach for your trusty stretchy pants, or do you like to keep it interesting? Share in the comments!

Travel: Blue Mountain Getaway with Ford Canada

8 September, 2015 Nelia

Ontario summers are fleeting – as soon as it starts to feel warm enough for the beach, it seems that September is just around the corner. Which is why I was so happy to have been invited by Ford Canada to spend a weekend at the Westin Trillium House at Blue Mountain Resort with my blogger besties. In the spirit of #FordTryMore, we were offered a range of fun and exciting activities we could participate in, to take our summer up a notch.

So, on a Friday evening, the girls and I piled into the super sleek 2015 Ford Focus Titanium – decked out to the brim with handy features like active park assist, blind spot information system, SYNC with My Ford Touch that allows drivers to interact through voice control, and of course, GPS that helped us navigate from my house to our home for the weekend. Road trips with friends are always fun, and the 2-hour drive felt like 30 minutes, because we were chatting and snacking the entire way.

ford-focus-adventure-blue-mountain-16
Once we arrived at Westin, we were welcomed into our stunning one bedroom and loft suite, complete with a lovely view of the resort, kitchenette, and lots of lounging space. After a delicious dinner at Tholos Restaurant in the village (two words: fried cheese!), we called it a night.

ziplining-blue-mountain
The next morning, post-brunch at Oliver and Bonacini Cafe Grill, it was adventure o’clock! First on the agenda – Wind Rider Triple Zips. After getting strapped in and advised of the risks, we walked up the mountain, and found ourselves staring down from a considerable height. Luckily, none of us was afraid of heights, so off we went – and it was thrilling! Two zip lines later, we were back on solid ground, and itching for more. The rush of flying through the air, limbs flailing all over the place, had gotten our adrenaline flowing – and we wanted more!

What I Wore: Flower Child

It’s a crappy rainy day, so I thought I’d share photos from my amazing day trip to Bogle Seeds sunflower field near Toronto. After finding out that the sunflowers were in full bloom, le bf and I set off on an adventure of sorts, determined to find this magical place and take as many photos as my camera could hold.

To be honest with you, even though I had high expectations, I was still floored by the sight in front of us – an endless sea of yellow and green, framed by blue skies with an occasional pop of white clouds – it was beautiful. We roamed around a bit stunned, took photos, then took some more. Other visitors were more prepared, bringing step stools and mini ladders – anything to capture the “money” shot. In lieu of a ladder, I ended up jumping up and down wherever the sunflowers were a bit too tall to the amusement of some Chinese tourists. Whatever, not embarrassed.

I’ve seen so many beautiful flower fields photos on Instagram and online, and I’m so happy that I was finally able to find something just as wonderful so close to home. Sunflower and lavender fields in France may look like an unattainable dream, but a quick drive outside of Toronto, there are local gems just waiting to be discovered. One down, many more to go!

What I Wore: Bluffin

11 August, 2015 Nelia

It’s been a crazy few weeks…first, a clay pipe burst at our house, flooding our basement, then work got super stressful, and finally I got a killer cold. After working all last weekend, I have to say I am ready for a break…perhaps another trip to Scarborough Bluffs is in order.

A couple of weekends ago, le bf and I set out to find the infamous cliffs, and after a couple of hours of hiking and a couple of misses, we finally stumbled upon the spot. With breathtaking views of turquoise water below us, I couldn’t believe we were actually in Toronto. After spending some time at the top, we tried hiking down one of the steep cliff sides to get to the beach, but my sandals weren’t exactly proper climbing gear, so we decided to call it a day. Next time, we will start at the bottom.

So tell me, have you ever visited this Toronto gem? Share you experiences in the comments.

Travel: CHANEL Saint-Tropez Ephemeral Boutique

5 August, 2015 Nelia

If you needed another reason to visit the South of France, CHANEL may have just given you one. This summer, CHANEL set up its ephemeral bouique at the private mansion La Mistralée in Saint-Tropez, showcasing Ready-to-Wear, accessories, watches, and fine jewellery collections, as well as fragrances, skincare, and beauty.

Taking inspiration from the iconic CHANEL handbag interiors, the floors of the mansion are painted burgundy red, while the tiles around the pool remind visitors of the signature CHANEL quilting. A huge white and gold camellia can be found adorning the sunroom’s ceiling, while floral wallpaper adds a splash of colour to various rooms of the mansion.

The nearby pool house, stocked with beauty, fragrances, and beachwear, overlooks the the luxurious pool with an oversized floating camellia. It looks so tempting, but I’d imagine that taking a dip would be frowned upon.

So if you find yourself in sunny Saint-Tropez this summer, make sure to do some shopping at the ephemeral boutique, snap a photo of the floating camellia, and relax poolside surrounded by everything CHANEL…The boutique will be open until October 2015, so there’s still time!
