Marimekko for Target Collaboration Is Launching Next Month!

3 March, 2016 Nelia

target-marimekko-collaboration-2016-bathing-suit
Well, if you needed another reason to mourn Target’s departure from Canada, here’s one – Marimekko for Target collection is slated to hit the stores on April 17th, and it looks like it’ll be a good one! A really, really good one! From bikinis, to dinnerware, to teepees, this is going to be one printastic and colourful collab, and I literally want everything! The collection will feature “more than 200 playful, print-centric pieces that span outdoor décor, furniture and entertaining essentials, as well as beach and swimwear for women and girls. Standout items include the paddle board, inflatables, hammocks and swimsuits. The collection also features a number of firsts for Marimekko, including the bocce ball sets and parachutes. And best of all? Most pieces can be yours for under $50.” I mean…how amazing does it all sound?!

But don’t worry, if you live in Canada and don’t have a Target store nearby, you may still be able to snap up a piece or two over at Target Loves Canada – the international version of the e-comm site. I am not 100% sure whether the collab will be available to shop on the Canadian site, but it’s worth a try.

What do you think about the Marimekko for Target collection? Are you sad that we no longer have Target in Canada? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Baldwin Beach Park and Paia

28 January, 2016 Nelia

paia-hawaii-what-to-wear4
The thing I loved about Maui is how easy it is to get around the island. There are only a couple of main roads, so getting lost is nearly impossible. After spending a few blissfully relaxing days at our hotel, we decided to go on an adventure. We rented a car at the hotel, and took a picturesque drive to the north side of the island, heading towards the fishing village of Paia. Our plan involved a late lunch at Mama’s Fish House, as well as some beach time at Baldwin Beach Park.

On our way from the hotel, we noticed signs for a scenic lookout, and decided to make a pit stop. What we found was a breathtaking view of the ocean, with whales splashing in the distance. It was glorious! After enjoying the lookout, we jumped back in the car, and headed to IHOP in Kahului…judge if you must, but our breakfast was deeeeelicious. Afterwards we drove to Baldwin Beach Park to work off those pancakes, relax, and look for sea turtles.

paia-hawaii-what-to-wear14
Baldwin Beach Park was an interesting place – a beautiful beach with lifeguards, and all kinds of colourful characters. Hula-hooping hippies, a friendly, if a little crazed-seeming Bible-reciting man, girls handing out free coconuts, nudists…you name it, Baldwin Beach Park has it all! Speaking of free coconuts…I considered declining the kind offer, but the girls were opening them up right next to us, so I figured YOLO, and accepted one. I didn’t share the coconut water with le bf, in case it was laced with something…but it ended up being delicious and not at all poisoned nor roofied. Lesson learned: when life gives you free coconuts, take them and drink the coconut water with abandon.

We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around and playing in the waves. After a while, we took a stroll down the beach and spotted sea turtles swimming super close to shore. Le bf grabbed the camera and waded into the water, forgetting that his phone was in the pocket of his swim trunks. Cutting our sea turtle adventure short, we drove to Paia to buy some rice to try and save his phone, but apparently the rice trick doesn’t work with ocean water. Before we realized it, it was time for our Mama’s Fish House lunch. Once we arrived at the restaurant, we found immaculate grounds overlooking the ocean, friendly staff, and a dining room with a ton of character. We ordered Macadamia Nut Crab Cakes, Mama’s Stuffed Mahimahi, and Opah, Mahimahi and Ahi fish sautéed in Panang Curry. All seafood at Mama’s is freshly-caught by local fishermen, and everything tasted great. Prices are definitely not cheap (especially with a weak Canadian dollar), but Mama’s is a perfect place for a special occasion dinner while in Maui.

After spending some time in Paia, we jumped back into our rental and drove back to Kaanapali, enjoying all the beautiful sights along the way. Minus the ruined cell phone, it was a pretty magical day…IHOP and all.

Holidays 2015: Best Ugly Christmas Sweaters of the Season

19 November, 2015 Nelia

Every year le bf and I throw an Ugly Christmas Sweater party at our house, getting together with friends to celebrate the holiday season. A few years ago, it was nearly impossible to find the perfect ugly sweater for the party, but each year, more and more cute ugly sweaters pop up all over the place. This year, I found so many awesome sweaters, that choosing just one is proving to be an impossible task.

There’s a ton of traditional Christmas motif sweaters out there, in addition to the fun ones like the IKEA Monkey, Mean Girls, Golden Girls, Star Wars, Game of Thrones…you name it! There’s even a Hotline Bling ugly sweater available. So whether you’re a catlady, a dog person, or a sloth lover…there’s a sweater out there for you. Which one will you wear this holiday season?

What I Wore: Dressy Sweatpants

This year’s Boxing Day marked a couple of firsts for me. It was the first time I actually got out of the house and hit up the physical stores on Boxing Day (as far I as I can remember), and it was also the first time I wore sweats with heels and liked it. This outfit was so comfy, that not only did I end up wearing it on Boxing Day, but I also ended up basically living in it the entire post-Christmas weekend. This was beneficial in several ways – turns out that comfy stretchy pants are ideal for consuming Christmas leftovers, and when paired with heels and Kenzo sweatshirt gives an appearance of at least SOME put-togetherness, thus elevating this look from shlumpy slob to on-purpose semi-shlumpy designer slob. I know this look is not for everyone, but I’m definitely going to be wearing it a lot this winter. A perfect lazy day outfit that only looks slightly lazy.

Style Days of Christmas: $200 Target Gift Card Giveaway

4 December, 2014 Nelia

2014 STYLEDAYS OF CHRISTMAS 4
One of the many things I missed when I first moved to Toronto from Houston was Target, so when a few stores opened up in the GTA, I was ecstatic! Finally, I would be able to shop the most adorable housewares, loveliest pj sets, and cute clothes all in one place. There’s just something so inviting about Target stores…they are bright, well-organized, and carry a selection of stylish knick-knacks you can’t find anywhere else. AND they do killer designer collabs too. Needless to say, I’m a huge fan!

So today, on day 4 of Style Days of Christmas, we are giving away a $200 gift card from Target, so you can deck your halls, pick up an ugly Christmas sweater or two, and buy a few gifts for the people on your list while you’re at it. Buy whatever you like, spend it however you want. Maybe you’ll choose a TOMS for Target blanket for a friend, with proceeds from this collab going to the ones in need. Your options are pretty much endless. Sounds good? Enter below!

Holidays 2014: Gift Guide

17 November, 2014 Nelia

For some reason, this year, I am woefully unprepared for winter’s arrival, but since it’s practically end of November and there’s snow on the ground, I guess it’s time to snap out of my denial and start shopping. Full disclosure: I have yet to buy any presents, but I do have some ideas as to what I’ll be picking up for my loved ones this holiday season. And just in case you’re in the same boat, I thought I’d share some of my fave holiday gift ideas with you.

I glimpsed most of these back in July, during the annual holiday previews, and I have to say that this year in particular, those previews came in super handy. I got to learn about the existence of cool adult onesies, played with the Big Love Ball, and tried on the gorgeous Thomas Sabo infinity ring; I self-medicated with the all-natural Saje Pocket Pharmacy, and sipped on Inniskillin sparkling icewine. In short, I got to preview and test out a lot of the picks below, and I hope that this gift guide gives you some ideas for your holiday shopping this season. If you’re looking for stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and presents for him, her, and the kids, then this is a great place to start! Happy Shopping!

What I Wore: From Odette to Colette

20 August, 2014 Nelia

joe-fresh-shorts-7

While I usually tend to avoid the touristy Latin Quarter in Paris, this year, it was on my “to go” list. Why? Odette. After seeing countless photos of those photogenic French puffs on Instagram, I knew I had to try them. So after a leisurely stroll from our Airbnb apartment, we found ourselves in front of Odette. The place was tiny with limited seating, so we grabbed some petit-choux, and began to devour them right on the street. My verdict – they were ok. The coffee ones were my fave, but in general, I found them way too soggy and not as good as the ones from Nadege in Toronto. Nadege offers petit-choux that are light, fresh, decidedly not soggy, and so very flavourful. They may not be quite as pretty as Odette’s, but in my opinion, they are way superior in all other aspects.

After our petit disappointment, we walked back towards our Parisian apartment, exploring rue Saint Honoré. As some of you may know, rue Saint Honoré is home to one of the coolest shops in Paris – Colette, so of course, that’s exactly where we ended up. We nosed through the store’s trendy book selection, picked up some souvenir postcards, featuring Anna Wintour and other fashion notables playing soccer (it was World Cup season after all), and gawked at the gorgeous clothes displayed on the second floor – designs from Christopher Kane, Carven, Kenzo, Mary Katrantzou, Comme des Garcon, and so much more. There wasn’t a huge breadth of items available, but the curated pieces were enough to set my heart aflutter.

Sadly, I limited myself to postcards, and a fragrant melon that I picked up at a fruit stand nearby. The melon was sweet and the postcards were adorable, and even if I didn’t buy any fab clothes, my day was still quite perfect. As cliche as this may sound…I don’t need much when I’m in Paris…a walk through its charming streets is all it requires to make me realize just how freaking lucky I am.

It’s Here! Complete Altuzarra for Target Lookbook!

13 August, 2014 Nelia

altuzarra-for-target-full-lookbook-25

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Altuzarra for Target collection will be hitting the stores on September 14th, and we FINALLY have the entire lookbook to gawk at. Consisting of 50 pieces, and ranging in price from $18-$90, the collection seems to be a lot more wearable than most collabs we’ve seen as of late. For one, there are a lot of work-appropriate separates, dresses that can be worn to a 9-5 job, and to a date after, a lot of timeless silhouettes, sexy cuts, snakeskin, lace, oh my! Speaking of lace…that lace mask may be very Fifty Shades, but I truly find myself needing it a lot more than I probably should.

Apart from the lace mask, my list will include the Swiss dot maxi (oh-so-70s!), the faux fur jacket, that terrific velvet suit, and of course, the black tuxedo-style dress with a sexy slit – all pieces that I can see having longevity inside my overstuffed closet.

But what about you? What do you think about this highly-anticipated collection? Will you be among the early birds on September 14th at your local Target store? Share your faves in the comments!

What I Wore: Easy Does It

10 June, 2014 Nelia

knot-dress-zara-aldo-shoes-13

One of my favourite things about summer (other than endless sunshine, BBQs, beach days, and ice-cream) is dresses. I wouldn’t call myself a girlie-girl, but once summer rolls around, dresses is all I want to wear. I’m sure I’ve blogged about that before, but here I go again. This one in particular is from Zara, and it was love at first sight. I bought it when it was still wintery and snowy outside, daydreaming of those warm afternoons when I would be able to throw it on, tie those faux sleeves around my waist and go – so easy and comfy.

I wore this on a neighbourhood discovery walk I took with le bf recently. Since we bought our house a year ago, we haven’t really had the chance to explore our new hood, and now that it’s summer again, we are making an effort to discover the cool things about the place we call home…like this amazing park we stumbled upon – with a stunning ravine, fun splash pad, and this beautifully-painted wall. Definitely a gem that we’ll keep in our regular rotation.

What I Wore: Jumpsuit Up

28 May, 2014 Nelia

zara-jumpsuit-park-5

After searching for a pair of perfect denim overalls, I stumbled upon this Zara jumpsuit, and immediately fell in love. Instead of channeling J.Lo circa 2001, I decided to jumpsuit up in this simple, super comfy, and versatile one-piece instead. So far, I am seriously obsessed with it, and want to wear it all the time. And the best part is…I can! During the summer, I can pair it with short-sleeved tops. To dress it up, I’ll wear it with a tuxedo jacket and sky-high heels. And when it gets colder again – this leather jacket will save the day. So simple. It may just be the most versatile piece in my wardrobe.

So what about you? Would you wear a jumpsuit in your daily life? Or do you still prefer J.Lo’s denim one-piece? Share in the comments!
