Shopping: Stay Warm All Winter Long With SHOP.CA

We are in the final stretch, people! Holidays are just around the corner, and I can almost taste the cocoa. I don’t know about you, but for me, the best part of the holidays is the time I get to spend with my loved ones, indoors and out, watching Christmas movies, sipping hot chocolate playing in the snow, and eating EVERYTHING. And since “baby, it’s cold outside”, I put together some of my must-haves for a warm and enjoyable winter, so that even after the holidays are over, you can still find joy in little things instead of wallowing in misery over the slushy snow and bitter winds.

Kind of a no-brainer, but investing in a high-quality winter jacket is a must for Canadians. Get one with a cozy hood to protect your head and face from the wind. A fun colour will add a bit of joy to otherwise grey days. This Moose Knuckles coat is a great option. Touchscreen gloves is another must-have. You really don’t have to make a choice between keeping your fingers warm and using your smartphone outside. Everyone should have a pair of these handy gloves.

For those days, when going outside is not an option, my winter essentials include a fluffy throw, a cozy sweatshirt, a great movie, and some hot chocolate. On frigid winter evenings, I park myself on the couch between my husband and my cat with all of the above, and enjoy a toasty night in. When I feel especially Martha Stewart-like, I pull out my cast iron pot and make some hot chili, tortilla soup, or something else equally hearty and delicious. Come to think of it, that pot is probably the most used item in my kitchen – you can use it for so many things!

And there you have it, my must-have essentials for staying warm all winter long, no matter what you do. Share yours in the comments!

Holidays 2014: Gift Guide

17 November, 2014 Nelia

For some reason, this year, I am woefully unprepared for winter’s arrival, but since it’s practically end of November and there’s snow on the ground, I guess it’s time to snap out of my denial and start shopping. Full disclosure: I have yet to buy any presents, but I do have some ideas as to what I’ll be picking up for my loved ones this holiday season. And just in case you’re in the same boat, I thought I’d share some of my fave holiday gift ideas with you.

I glimpsed most of these back in July, during the annual holiday previews, and I have to say that this year in particular, those previews came in super handy. I got to learn about the existence of cool adult onesies, played with the Big Love Ball, and tried on the gorgeous Thomas Sabo infinity ring; I self-medicated with the all-natural Saje Pocket Pharmacy, and sipped on Inniskillin sparkling icewine. In short, I got to preview and test out a lot of the picks below, and I hope that this gift guide gives you some ideas for your holiday shopping this season. If you’re looking for stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and presents for him, her, and the kids, then this is a great place to start! Happy Shopping!

Shopping: SHOP.CA

With the holiday season quickly approaching, I have begun to make my holiday shopping list. A list that includes gifts for my friends and family, house accessories for that Christmas party I plan on throwing, necessities for the family Christmas dinner, and an outfit for me to wear for NYE. That’s a LOT of shopping to do in less than 2 months’ time.

So, what’s a busy girl to do? Shop online, of course! Apart from my addiction to Homesense, where I’ll be picking up some of those knick-knacks for the house, I’ll be ordering most of the gifts and necessities from my couch, with a festive drink in hand from SHOP.CA!

Here are some reasons why I’ll be doing most of my shopping on this Canadian one-stop-online-shop:

1. Aeroplan Miles

I don’t know about you, but I’m a serious Aeroplan Miles collector. Any time I can get some extra miles for just shopping, I will jump at the chance. SHOP.CA Members who have added their Aeroplan account will receive 1 Aeroplan Mile for every 1 dollar spent. Aeroplan Members with Distinction status, including dSilver, dBlack and dDiamond, will receive 2 Miles for every 1 dollar spent. So if I use my Aeroplan credit card to order something, I’ll basically get triple the points for every purchase. Hawaii, here I come!

2. Time-Limited Events

SHOP.CA features exclusive time-limited sales on its site, so if there’s something that you’ve been waiting to buy, it’s worth it to check out one of the dozens sales going on. Deals include anywhere from 15% to 75% off, and include brands like Hunter and Fujifilm.

3. Free Shipping and No Duties

Since SHOP.CA is a Canadian site, ordering is painless. No need to worry about import duties or shipping. The price you see is the price you pay. It’s as simple as that.

4. Selection

If you are shopping for several people at once and hate the crowds, SHOP.CA is an alternative to endless lineups and screaming children. No need to run from store to store in order to get things for everyone on your list – it can all be delivered right to your door from one place! You can get anything from Pink Tartan party dresses, Cartier watches, and Sorel boots, to computers, home décor, and appliances. You can even buy shampoo!

So far, I’ve only ordered things for myself, like the KQC flat iron and Tressa shampoo (I wasn’t kidding), and I have a couple of dresses kicking around in my shopping cart, while I try to decide between the dresses and those cool Tom Ford sunnies. But soon, I’ll be filling that cart with gifts for my friends and family, and clicking the “checkout” button. Who needs Santa?

So tell me, do you plan on doing your holiday shopping online? Share your tips in the comments.
