You Are Invited: Marni Mini Market Pop Up at Holt Renfrew

17 July, 2018 Nelia

If you love Marni and all things colourful, then Holt Renfrew is going to be your favourite place this month. The Marni Mini Market pop-up is now open at Holt Renfrew Yorkdale until July 22nd, with a series of limited edition products on offer, including “playful picnic baskets handmade by Colombian artisans, animal sculptures made from metal and colourful PVC, and reimagined versions of the famous Marni shopping bag in striped fabric”. I haven’t had the chance to pay a visit to the pop-up yet, but after studying the images very carefully, I think I need…EVERYTHING. And the best part is, it’s all really affordable considering that it’s Marni. Most bags and pouches are priced from $115 to $240, chic scarf necklaces are $280, and plant holders are $80.

If you live in Vancouver, then you’re in luck too, because Holt Renfrew Vancouver will be hosting the pop-up there from August 1st to 19th. This is the first time Marni Mini Market pop-up is available in North America, so shop accordingly.

Are you excited about this pop-up? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Baldwin Beach Park and Paia

28 January, 2016 Nelia

The thing I loved about Maui is how easy it is to get around the island. There are only a couple of main roads, so getting lost is nearly impossible. After spending a few blissfully relaxing days at our hotel, we decided to go on an adventure. We rented a car at the hotel, and took a picturesque drive to the north side of the island, heading towards the fishing village of Paia. Our plan involved a late lunch at Mama’s Fish House, as well as some beach time at Baldwin Beach Park.

On our way from the hotel, we noticed signs for a scenic lookout, and decided to make a pit stop. What we found was a breathtaking view of the ocean, with whales splashing in the distance. It was glorious! After enjoying the lookout, we jumped back in the car, and headed to IHOP in Kahului…judge if you must, but our breakfast was deeeeelicious. Afterwards we drove to Baldwin Beach Park to work off those pancakes, relax, and look for sea turtles.

Baldwin Beach Park was an interesting place – a beautiful beach with lifeguards, and all kinds of colourful characters. Hula-hooping hippies, a friendly, if a little crazed-seeming Bible-reciting man, girls handing out free coconuts, nudists…you name it, Baldwin Beach Park has it all! Speaking of free coconuts…I considered declining the kind offer, but the girls were opening them up right next to us, so I figured YOLO, and accepted one. I didn’t share the coconut water with le bf, in case it was laced with something…but it ended up being delicious and not at all poisoned nor roofied. Lesson learned: when life gives you free coconuts, take them and drink the coconut water with abandon.

We spent the rest of the afternoon lounging around and playing in the waves. After a while, we took a stroll down the beach and spotted sea turtles swimming super close to shore. Le bf grabbed the camera and waded into the water, forgetting that his phone was in the pocket of his swim trunks. Cutting our sea turtle adventure short, we drove to Paia to buy some rice to try and save his phone, but apparently the rice trick doesn’t work with ocean water. Before we realized it, it was time for our Mama’s Fish House lunch. Once we arrived at the restaurant, we found immaculate grounds overlooking the ocean, friendly staff, and a dining room with a ton of character. We ordered Macadamia Nut Crab Cakes, Mama’s Stuffed Mahimahi, and Opah, Mahimahi and Ahi fish sautéed in Panang Curry. All seafood at Mama’s is freshly-caught by local fishermen, and everything tasted great. Prices are definitely not cheap (especially with a weak Canadian dollar), but Mama’s is a perfect place for a special occasion dinner while in Maui.

After spending some time in Paia, we jumped back into our rental and drove back to Kaanapali, enjoying all the beautiful sights along the way. Minus the ruined cell phone, it was a pretty magical day…IHOP and all.

What I Wore: From Odette to Colette

20 August, 2014 Nelia

While I usually tend to avoid the touristy Latin Quarter in Paris, this year, it was on my “to go” list. Why? Odette. After seeing countless photos of those photogenic French puffs on Instagram, I knew I had to try them. So after a leisurely stroll from our Airbnb apartment, we found ourselves in front of Odette. The place was tiny with limited seating, so we grabbed some petit-choux, and began to devour them right on the street. My verdict – they were ok. The coffee ones were my fave, but in general, I found them way too soggy and not as good as the ones from Nadege in Toronto. Nadege offers petit-choux that are light, fresh, decidedly not soggy, and so very flavourful. They may not be quite as pretty as Odette’s, but in my opinion, they are way superior in all other aspects.

After our petit disappointment, we walked back towards our Parisian apartment, exploring rue Saint Honoré. As some of you may know, rue Saint Honoré is home to one of the coolest shops in Paris – Colette, so of course, that’s exactly where we ended up. We nosed through the store’s trendy book selection, picked up some souvenir postcards, featuring Anna Wintour and other fashion notables playing soccer (it was World Cup season after all), and gawked at the gorgeous clothes displayed on the second floor – designs from Christopher Kane, Carven, Kenzo, Mary Katrantzou, Comme des Garcon, and so much more. There wasn’t a huge breadth of items available, but the curated pieces were enough to set my heart aflutter.

Sadly, I limited myself to postcards, and a fragrant melon that I picked up at a fruit stand nearby. The melon was sweet and the postcards were adorable, and even if I didn’t buy any fab clothes, my day was still quite perfect. As cliche as this may sound…I don’t need much when I’m in Paris…a walk through its charming streets is all it requires to make me realize just how freaking lucky I am.

What I Wore: One Year Ago

24 May, 2013 Nelia

wedding-rob-nelly

One year ago today, I married my best friend in the most beautiful location, surrounded by our beloved friends and family, on a sunny day full of laughter, silliness, great food, and lemon trees. And if I could do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing.

What I Wore: Florals For Spring? Ground breaking.

30 April, 2013 Nelia

floral-pants-4

How amazing was the weather last weekend? After those few craptastic weeks of spring (ha!), it felt like being in para-para-paradise! So instead of wasting my time on my mom’s comfy couch, le bf and I went out shopping for one. We hit up Queen St West, King St West, Dundas St West…walking everywhere, with little pit stops to grab Yogurty’s, and other yummy snacks along the way. It was amazing! Leather jacket weather, how I missed you so!

So what about you? Did you enjoy the sunshine last weekend? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: Mama’s Got a Brand New Bag

10 October, 2012 Nelia

joe-fresh-houndstooth-dress

Last week, Aldo Shoes x Flare Magazine capsule collection designed by Liz Cabral hit the stores, and of course, my shopping ban was broken, with new pieces added to my already busting-at-the-seams wardrobe.

If not for the fact that the largest shoe size made was 39 (when I needed a 40 or at least a 39.5), I would’ve picked up 2 pairs of shoes instead of 1. And though I wasn’t able to stuff my non-Cinderella-like feet into a pair of oxblood shooties, I did end up with an oxblood mock croc/pony hair bag instead. Roomy and sleek, this new structured Aldo x Flare beauty will surely become a staple in my wardrobe (and in my What I Wore posts) this fall.

If you want to get your hands on a pair of Aldo x Flare shoes or this bag, you’ll need to hurry up! This capsule collection is available in very limited quantities at select stores in Canada right now. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you, and good luck!

What I Wore: Perfect

4 September, 2012 Nelia

striped-dress

I’ve always wanted a perfect breton striped dress, but could never find one quite perfect enough. Well, my search is finally over! This super comfy Gap dress is IT! It’s long enough for work, but not too long, the fabric is just thick enough, and the cut is very flattering. What’s not to love, right? I might just have to get a second one, in case I wear this one out.

Are you as into stripes as I am? Share in the comments!

Giveaway: Marni at H&M Flower Necklace

8 March, 2012 Nelia

Marni-HM-White-Flower-Necklace

Marni at H&M collection launched this morning to extra-long line-ups, and people sleeping on the streets overnight to get in on the Marni action. Well, if you weren’t very lucky today, and weren’t able to get your hands on a little-something-Marni, I have good news for you! In honor of International Women’s Day (or The 8th of March, as we call it in the Soviet block), I am giving away a white flower Marni at H&M necklace to one of my readers! I was lucky enough to be able to pre-shop the collab last night, and walked away with some great loot, including one extra necklace to give away!

Interested? Read the rules carefully after the jump!

Wishlist: Marni x H&M

6 March, 2012 Nelia

marni-h&m-accessories-wedding

The Marni at H collection will be hitting the stores this coming Thursday, March 8th, and I seriously cannot wait! My wishlist right now is fairly simple – a few pieces of jewelry, printed tee, and the cutest swimsuit ever…but I know that once I enter that store – all bets (and wishlists) are off. I still can’t decide which dress to get (maxi or knee-length), which pair of pants to pick up (shiny brocade, or pajama shorts)…and seeing how I’m on a strict pre-wedding budget, I really have to pace myself…or go broke trying.

Will you be lining up come March 8th? And if so, which pieces are currently on your wishlist? Share in the comments.

Celebrities Rock Marni at H&M Collection!

21 February, 2012 Nelia

Last week, the luckiest few were able to celebrate the launch of Marni at H collection in Los Angeles…rubbing elbows with the likes of Sofia Coppola, Drew Barrymore, Milla Jovovich, Winona Ryder, and more – all clad in Marni x H. Seeing how the collection is coming to Canada on March 8th…I thought I’d share my fave looks from the launch party, modeled by celebs, who of course, had first dibs on the collection.

Will you be lining up this time around? Which pieces are on your wishlist? Share in the comments.
