Beauty: Introducing GABRIELLE CHANEL

6 September, 2017 Nelia

For the first time in 15 years (!!!), the House of Chanel has released a brand new fragrance – GABRIELLE CHANEL, named, of course, after the the inimitable Gabrielle Coco Chanel. Created by Olivier Polge, GABRIELLE is a fresh floral fragrance with warm notes of Jasmine, fruity scent of Ylang-Ylang, fresh essence of Orange Blossom, and a finishing touch of Grasse Tuberose. This feminine fragrance is an instant classic, and the streamlined yet striking square bottle only reinforces its timelessness.

To celebrate the new fragrance, a beautiful mini film starring Kristen Stewart and directed by Ringan Ledwidge was released, capturing the essence of the rebellious spirit of Gabrielle Chanel. If you’re still not familiar with the designer’s history of breaking the rules and reinventing herself, make sure to watch the Inside CHANEL videos linked below. They offer a fascinating glimpse at Coco Chanel’s life and of course the history of CHANEL.

As for me, I am smitten with GABRIELLE CHANEL. I’ve been lucky enough to wear it for a few weeks now and it’s my current go-to perfume – can’t get enough! The new fragrance is now available at all CHANEL Beauty counters in Canada, so make sure to stop by and try it for yourself.

Met Gala 2016: Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology

3 May, 2016 Nelia

Met-Gala-2016-solange-knowles
The first Monday in May is here and so is the annual Met Gala aka Fashion Oscars. After poring over hundreds of celeb pics, I have to say that it was probably one of my fave red carpets in a while…which is why I had such a tough time choosing my faves. This year, there were so many interesting dresses, I couldn’t narrow down my choices to the usual “best” and “worst”, and so, I am just going to post all of the looks that I’d found either exciting, or super boring/terrible, so that you can judge for yourself.

Perhaps the red carpet was extra exciting thanks to this year’s theme – Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. Anna Wintour arrived wearing one of my fave looks from CHANEL Haute Couture Spring 2016 collection, and knowing first-hand how important both technology and innovation are in creating a lot of the CHANEL looks, I loved her choice that much more. Other stand-outs included Solange in an origami-like David Laport frock of my dreams, Zoe Saldana sporting a gown with an exaggerated peacock-like train, Nicole Kidman in an ethereal caped creation, Kristen Stewart in yet another stunning CHANEL dress, Claire Danes in a glow-in-the-dark ball gown, and Lena Dunham, Jenna Lyons, and Jennifer Konner in custom-made J.Crew tuxes – so fresh and so cool, though perhaps not exactly adhering to the theme of the night.

I have to say that I was very disappointed to see Michelle Williams in a completely forgettable and way-too-casual dress, which was made even worse by her terrible new bangs and drab makeup – a rare misstep for this usually stylish actress. Other misses included Grimes in an ill-fitting dress and dishevelled hair, SJP in a puzzling get-up, Kerry Washington looking like she was going to a Halloween party dressed as a witch, and a whole bunch of people like Elle Fanning, Katie Holmes, Amber Heard, Emily Ratajkowski, Maria Sharapova, among others, who wore completely forgettable dresses, definitely not worthy of the Met Gala. Last, but not least, Taylor Swift, who was the co-chair of this year’s event, totally missed the mark in a cocktail dress that could have come from Banana Republic (no offence to Banana Republic, but it’s usually not Met Gala appropriate).

And there you have it, my faves and not-so-faves from this year’s Met Gala. Which looks did you like? Share your best and worst in the comments.

Kristen Stewart in CHANEL Metiers d’Art “Paris in Rome” Campaign

17 April, 2016 Nelia

Chanel_ParisRome_AdCamp_DP.indd
CHANEL muse and ambassadress Kristen Stewart has yet another CHANEL campaign under her belt – this time in support of the “Paris in Rome” collection. Photographed in black and white by Karl Lagerfeld, Kristen is posing as a sultry Cinema Italiano star wearing the pre-fall 2016 collection. It’s always good to see Kristen dress up, since her everyday style is so casual. The ads are slated to appear in magazines sometime in June, but you and I don’t have to wait this long to check out the stellar new images thanks to the power of internet!

What do you think of this ad campaign? Do you like Kristen Stewart as a CHANEL muse? Share in the comments.

Beauty: Kristen Stewart for CHANEL Makeup

2 February, 2016 Nelia

Kristen Stewart for CHANEL Makeup Eyes Collection Campaign
It’s been announced this morning that Kristen Stewart is the newest face of CHANEL Makeup – more specifically – the Eyes Collection Campaign! I think it’s a spot-on partnership, as Kristen’s signature makeup look is the effortless smoky eye, and she’s been working with the brand for several seasons now. Unsurprisingly, the first image of the campaign focuses on Stewart’s eyes, perfectly framed by her long lashes and thick brows.

“With her modern, magnetic beauty, and free spirit, Stewart appears in a series of portraits embodying various facets of the contemporary CHANEL woman” states the press release, and I, for one, can’t wait to see the rest of the portraits photographed by Mario Testino.

What do you think of Kristen Stewart’s latest collab with CHANEL? Share in the comments.

1. Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew with Moroccanoil
Once again, I was able to be a fly on the wall at the annual Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew on Bloor St, watching celebs in their natural habitat, as they sat on couches sipping Belmonte Raw juice, played pattycakes, and hung out with their publicists. This year was quite eventful and I wrote an entire post about it on Yorkdale.com, so if you’re into Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Bryan Cranston, Idris Elba, Sandra Bullock, and more – you definitely want to check it out! Who asked for an extra Moroccanoil goodie bag for his wife? Who refused to make eye contact? Who was the loudest interviewee? Read all about it here!

2. Essentials Lounge
Each year the Essentials Lounge by EGPR is a much-needed haven, helping journalists and bloggers prep for extra-long TIFF days and nights by pampering us with the essentials (get it?) necessary to get through 2 weeks of parties, interviews, red carpets, and more, in style and in good health. As always, this lounge focused on handing out swag to the media, not the celebs…and this year I felt especially spoiled! Mainly, because…Krispy Kreme doughnuts! I don’t know about you, but I am OBSESSED with them. I know I shouldn’t have them all the time, but when life hands you a box of 6 glazed doughnuts, you take them and you eat them immediately. After my doughnut break, other notable stops at Essentials included Dior Beauty makeup touch-ups, cutest Saucony Original shoes for those long days on your feet, personalized bottles of Thierry Mugler Angel perfume from Clarins Canada, comfy Canadian-designed Knix Wear underwear, natural beauty goodies from Kosmea Australia, and did I mention the doughnuts?! Needless to say, I emerged from this lounge, loaded up like a mule, with complimentary Vitaminwater Zero in tow and doughnut glaze on my lips. Thanks, EGPR! I blame you for those extra 10 pounds of Krispy Kreme doughnuts I am going to eat this month.

3. Sky Afterparty with CHANEL
When CHANEL invited me to attend the TIFF afterparty for Diane Kruger’s latest movie Sky, I was ecstatic. As you all know, Diane is a huge style inspiration and I couldn’t believe I would get to “party” with her at Soho House in Toronto. So the night I flew back to the city from NYFW, I rushed home to change, then rushed back to the event in my best Diane-approved outfit, only to find myself staring at the back of Diane Kruger’s beautiful head for most of the night, too shy to approach her, making my dream of photoboothing with her (or even having a small chat) go up in smoke. Such is the life of a peasant civilian. Kruger, who was, of course, wearing an exquisite CHANEL Haute Couture frock, was hanging out with her co-stars, director, and friends in the corner of the patio, while the rest of us tried to mingle nearby as inconspicuously as possible. I have to say I was a bit sad that we didn’t become BFFs at this party…after all we have so much in common – we both love cats, CHANEL, and Joshua Jackson…but alas, this time, a meet-cute was not in the stars. Perhaps another time.

3 Bags and 3 Muses in CHANEL’s Latest Ad Campaign

3 March, 2015 Nelia

vanessa-paradis-chanel-girl-bag-campaign-2015
If you’ve been waiting for that promised ad campaign, featuring Kristen Stewart, Vanessa Paradis, and Alice Dellal, your patience has finally been rewarded, because CHANEL released these images of the new (and not so new) CHANEL handbag muses, wearing three iconic bags from the brand. Shot by Karl Lagerfeld, these images feature some of the coolest it-girls around, and I have to say that I’m obsessed with Vanessa’s photo, especially since she’s not a twenty-something ingenue. I love that Karl continues to work with her, and that she continues to be the face of CHANEL many years later.

The idea behind the campaign was to feature each woman with a CHANEL bag that best embodies her – Vanessa with the Girl, Alice with the Boy, and Kristen with the 11.12. As a huge fan of the brand, I do find all three bags dreamy, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Boy. Besides the romantic story behind the name of the bag, I love how easy that bag is…how it can be dressed up or down, with a comfy strap that can be worn cross-body, or on the shoulder…CHANEL Boy Bag is definitely a fave of mine.

kristen-stewart-chanel-11-12-bag-campaign
If you were curious about what the three muses had to say about their bag choices, here’s a little insight into their faves!

Dellal on the Boy: “Since discovering the Boy, I have found it a permanent fixture in my wardrobe. It’s a ‘fuss-free’ bag; it is very modern! The Boy bag was my first job with Chanel, it was the beginning of a unique journey.”
Kristen Stewart on 11.12: “For me, the iconic handbag (the 11.12) is just like the house of Chanel, fundamental and modern, two qualities not usually shared.”
Vanessa Paradis on the Girl: “I like the fact that it blends in with clothes or against the skin with infinite gentleness.”

And there you have it…three CHANEL muses, with three stunning CHANEL handbags. Which one is your fave? Share in the comments.

What They Wore: Celeb Looks from Met Gala 2014

6 May, 2014 Nelia

liu-wen-zac-posen-met-gala-dress-2014

What’s more important – adhering to a dress code or bringing something fresh to the red carpet? Last night at the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, some celebs decided to pay homage to the celebrated American designer Charles James, while others chose to wear something exciting instead. No shade to James, but after seeing one too many taffeta-clad celebs, I cheered when I glimpsed Lupita Nyong’o’s Prada amazingness. Sure, it wasn’t exactly inspired by Charles James, but it was fun to look at, and if anyone could pull off the bejeweled net dress with feathers, it’s Lupita. Same goes for Kirsten Dunst’s Rodarte Star Wars gown – amazing, and probably not the most appropriate for that particular theme, but still…so cool! Another look I couldn’t resist last night was Chloe Sevigny in Kenzo, which was probably much too modern for last night’s theme, but I loved it all the same.

But it wasn’t solely the rebels that caught my eye, I absolutely adored Liu Wen in a Zac Posen stunner (which I just got to see at Holts last week!), Emmy Rossum in a floral Carolina Herrera gown, Giovanna Battaglia in an 0ff-the-shoulder Dolce & Gabbana, and Hailee Steinfeld in a very theme-(and age)-appropriate black, white, and pink Prabal Gurung gown.

Mostly though, I was underwhelmed with last night’s red carpet looks. My favourite Style Fille Diane Kruger looked washed out in pale blue (though Joshua more than made up for it!), SJP disappointed in a messy Oscar de la Renta, Johnny Depp came dressed as Colonel Sanders, Kate Upton, who isn’t exactly a high-fashion darling, looked frumpy in a Dolce & Gabbana gown, and the rest of the lot just looked…been-there-wore-that.

What do you think of last night’s Met Gala red carpet? Which celebs got it right in your opinion? Share in the comments!

First Look at Kristen Stewart for CHANEL Ads

25 March, 2014 Nelia

kristen-stewart-braids-chanel-dallas-ad

Late last year, it was announced that Kristen Stewart was the next actress and beautiful face to work with the iconic house of CHANEL. And now we have the first sneak peek images of Stewart as the face of CHANEL’s Paris-Dallas collection. I have to admit to feeling a bit skeptical when the news was first announced, but now, after seeing these gorgeous (if kind of blurry) photos, I am drinking the Kool-Aid! From the kick-ass hair and makeup, to the awesome styling, to Stewart’s “don’t give a f***” face, I am all over this campaign, and am definitely looking forward to seeing higher res versions of these photos. Also…who do I sell my soul to in order to get my hands on that starry dress?! Le sigh.

But what about you? Are you down with Stewart working with CHANEL? Share in the comments.

What They Wore: Celeb Looks from Met Gala 2013

7 May, 2013 Nelia

met-gala-2013-punk-katy-perry-dolce-gabbana

This year’s Met Gala theme was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture”, and since so many of the celebs in attendance nailed it, I couldn’t simply post my fave looks and be done with it. This time, I chose to bring you not only my fave looks, but also the runners-up, and the headscratchers all in one post.

Let’s start with my faves. I loved the ornate Dolce and Gabbana dress on Katy Perry, the grand headpiece on SJP, the elegant Margiela on Gwen Stefani, the stunning, but decidedly NOT punk Givenchy gown on Rooney Mara, and an orange moomoo-like goodness on Ashley Olsen. None of those looks screamed punk to me, but I found these dresses to be interesting, fashion-forward, and gorgeous too. Well, SJP’s panty-flashing Giles gown wasn’t exactly my type, but if anyone could’ve pulled it off it’s her.

Apart from my top 5, I enjoyed so many other looks! From Giovanna Battaglia gilded head-to-toe goodness, to Solange Knowles looking lovely in a Kenzo gown that was perhaps a tad too casual for the Met, but beautiful nonetheless, to Emma Watson in a very sexy Prabal Gurung…there was no shortage of fashion porn at this year’s gala. Some celebs decided to don simple LBDs to the event, which in my opinion was a total waste (I’m looking at you, Michelle Williams), but others made up for it with punk hair (Miley Cyrus), and studs galore (looking gorgeous, Sienna Miller!).

All in all, I loved this year’s fashion offerings. I hate wading through a million photos of boring outfits, and this year there weren’t too many.

So now it’s your turn! Which celebs brought their A-game to the 2013 Costume Institute Gala, and which crashed and burned? Share your opinions in the comments!

Style Fille: Celebrities Love Louis Vuitton Spring 2013

18 January, 2013 Nelia

celebrities-louis-vuitton-spring-2013

I know it’s not for everyone, but I’m obsessed with Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 collection. I can’t help but admire the pieces every time I see yet another celeb wearing them, and looks like I’m not the only one! From Kirsten Dunst to Kristen Stewart, looks like young actresses are just as into LV’s graphic prints and fun silhouettes as I am. But which celeb wore it best? Vote for your favourite look below!
