What I Wore: The First Long Weekend in May

18 May, 2017 Nelia

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”2678989″]
Victoria Day long weekend is just around the corner and for many Canadians this weekend marks the beginning of cottage season. While le bf and I aren’t cottage-owners, our usual Victoria Day long weekend plans involve packing our bags, renting a car, and driving to a hotel in Gravenhurst for a few days of sunshine, hiking, and swimming. Depending on the weather, my packing list for these trips is fairly uncomplicated – sweatshirts and comfy denim for chilly evenings, a dress or two for dinners out, a swimsuit, sunglasses, my fave HBC beach towels, beauty essentials, and a couple of easy to pack Tide PODS for clean laundry in a pinch (no musty towels for us!).

And since Victoria Day is the unofficial kick-off to cottage season, I partnered up with Tide to share the Cottage Laundry Care Guide for any upcoming weekend getaways you may have planned. Check it out after the jump!

What I Wore: From Odette to Colette

20 August, 2014 Nelia

While I usually tend to avoid the touristy Latin Quarter in Paris, this year, it was on my “to go” list. Why? Odette. After seeing countless photos of those photogenic French puffs on Instagram, I knew I had to try them. So after a leisurely stroll from our Airbnb apartment, we found ourselves in front of Odette. The place was tiny with limited seating, so we grabbed some petit-choux, and began to devour them right on the street. My verdict – they were ok. The coffee ones were my fave, but in general, I found them way too soggy and not as good as the ones from Nadege in Toronto. Nadege offers petit-choux that are light, fresh, decidedly not soggy, and so very flavourful. They may not be quite as pretty as Odette’s, but in my opinion, they are way superior in all other aspects.

After our petit disappointment, we walked back towards our Parisian apartment, exploring rue Saint Honoré. As some of you may know, rue Saint Honoré is home to one of the coolest shops in Paris – Colette, so of course, that’s exactly where we ended up. We nosed through the store’s trendy book selection, picked up some souvenir postcards, featuring Anna Wintour and other fashion notables playing soccer (it was World Cup season after all), and gawked at the gorgeous clothes displayed on the second floor – designs from Christopher Kane, Carven, Kenzo, Mary Katrantzou, Comme des Garcon, and so much more. There wasn’t a huge breadth of items available, but the curated pieces were enough to set my heart aflutter.

Sadly, I limited myself to postcards, and a fragrant melon that I picked up at a fruit stand nearby. The melon was sweet and the postcards were adorable, and even if I didn’t buy any fab clothes, my day was still quite perfect. As cliche as this may sound…I don’t need much when I’m in Paris…a walk through its charming streets is all it requires to make me realize just how freaking lucky I am.

What I Wore: Disneyland Paris

9 July, 2014 Nelia

Last year was the first time I’ve ever gone to a Disney park, and it was everything I dreamed it would be and more. Both le bf and I had such an amazing time that we were itching to go back. So when the opportunity to visit Disneyland Paris presented itself, we couldn’t be more excited.

To kick off my birthday celebrations, we stayed at Disneyland Paris’ Sequoia Lodge for 3 nights while visiting Paris, and it was lovely. Surrounded by lush greenery, the lodge was tucked away in a quiet spot a brisk walk away from Disney Village and both parks. Staying this close really allowed us to take advantage of our time at Disneyland, and visit as many attractions as we could, while still being able to visit Paris every day (city center is only a 40 minute train ride away).

On our first day, armed with VIP Fast Passes (free if you stay at a Disney hotel), we made a dash for the Tower of Terror, before jumping on the Rock’n’Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, Space Mountain: Mission 2, Big Thunder Mountain, and Indiana Jones™ and the Temple of Peril. After getting our thrills, we ran around the Alice in Wonderland labyrinth (so fun!), explored Agrabah, and just wandered around Main Street, USA, devouring ice-cream and feeling like kids again.

At night, we watched Disney Dreams! show, complete with fireworks, water fountains, fire, lasers, lights, and some of my fave Disney characters and songs, alongside hundreds of other visitors from all over the world. It was magical.

I couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend a few days in Paris – we had a wonderful stay at Disneyland Paris, and I am now determined to visit every single Disney property in the world. I still haven’t been to the ones in Orlando, Tokyo, Hawaii, Hong Kong…2 down, 4 more to go!

Holidays 2013: Gift Ideas from The Bay

11 November, 2013 Nelia

the-bay-holidays-2013-8

November is here, which means that the holiday season is just around the corner, which means family dinners, twinkly lights, and PRESENTS! I don’t know about you, but I have already bought a few Christmas gifts, and what made it really easy was attending The Bay’s holiday preview back in July.

At the preview, I got a chance to see all of the awesome gifts that The Bay stores are stocking this holiday season, from an impressive Library of Exotic Chocolate Bars for your favourite chocoholic (umm, that would be me!), to the seriously gorgeous handbags for your BFFs (the one from Zac Posen is a stunner!), to the softest cashmere sweaters that would delight anyone on your list, to the coolest toys any kid could wish for, there are hundreds of covet-worthy presents just waiting for you to scoop them up…all at one place!

As usual, HBC Collection pieces are high on my personal holiday wishlist. I already picked up a pair of HBC Converse sneakers, but I still want to grab a couple of striped Christmas stockings, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Santa will drop off the beautiful retro-inspired HBC Erdem Coat under my tree (pretty please, Santa!).

Apart from the best holiday presents you can give and receive, The Bay also has everything you need for entertaining this holiday season – appliances, cookware (best selection of Le Creuset in town!), showstopping dinnerware and flatware sets, and of course, holiday decorations galore! In short, there will only be a couple of gift-shopping stops on my itinerary this year, and The Bay is definitely one of my faves. Makes my life so easy!

See some of my fave holiday gift ideas below, and let me know which items catch your eye!

Wishlist: Converse x Hudson’s Bay Company Jack Purcell Fall 2013 Collection

30 August, 2013 Nelia

converse-hudsons-bay-company-jack-purcell-collection

The cat is finally out of the bag! Hudson’s Bay Company joined forces with Converse to create one of the coolest pieces of Canadiana I’ve ever seen…actually, three of them! Ever since I laid my eyes on these beauties during The Bay’s Holiday 2013 preview, I have been dying to share the news with you, and now I finally can!

“Available in the Converse unisex Jack Purcell, Duck Boot and women’s Helen silhouettes, each style embodies the Hudson’s Bay Company wool point blanket stripes, features threaded stitching and antique brass eyelets, and includes the Jack Purcell and Hudson’s Bay logos on the foot bed. These silhouettes also carry an official “Seal of Quality” maintaining the authenticity of Hudson’s Bay Company. Additionally, the Jack Purcell Duck features a leather collar and heel stay, as well as embroidery on the tongue of the shoe, generating an elevated style that merges these two iconic worlds.”

The Converse Hudson’s Bay Company Jack Purcell collection will be available for purchase exclusively at Hudson’s Bay Stores, with prices ranging from $120 to $140 starting September 1, 2013. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be getting up extra early that day to snag a pair for myself and for le bf too!

What do you think of this collection? Share in the comments!
