The very first Free People boutique in Toronto, and in Canada opened yesterday at 79 Yorkville Avenue, adding yet another US brand to the Canadian shopping landscape. The new store, spread out over three floors has an intimate boho feel to it, stocked with clothes that are tailor-made for free-spirited young things, looking for fun and funky pieces that are perfect for attending summer festivals (Osheaga, anyone?), hanging out with friends at the cottage, or lazy weekends at Trinity Bellwoods.
“We are incredibly excited to begin our retail expansion into the Canadian market,” said Beth Wehagen, Free People’s Director of Stores. “Our choice of Toronto as the first store in the market was an easy one given the city’s history as a forerunner in driving fashion and culture throughout the country. We love the architecture along Yorkville Ave and feel it truly captures the eclectic and creative nature of our brand.”
My favorite pieces included uber-feminine lacey tops and dresses, printed denim and cords (paisley, and floral, and striped…oh my!), and chambray shirts with colorful patches. Will have to make sure to go back and try everything on!
Free People’s second Canadian store will be opening in Calgary on August 31st, at the Chinook Centre. Who’s excited?
