What I Wore: Soft and Cozy

23 February, 2017 Nelia

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”2435787″]
As February comes to a close, I look around my closet and realise that I’ve been pretty much wearing the same few pieces all winter long – same few sweaters paired with denim or work pants, and same few sweater dresses worn with fleece-lined tights. It’s not super creative, but I guess it’s a winter uniform that keeps me feeling warm and looking put-together during the cold winter months.

This season, I was very lucky to find a few of those perfect knitwear pieces that I get complimented on time and time again, and that I can totally see myself wearing for years to come (with a little TLC), which is why I’m so thankful for Ultra Downy Free & Gentle Liquid Fabric Conditioner. Truth be told, fabric softener is a fairly new discovery for me. For years, I didn’t see the importance of using it, until someone put it this way: detergent is like shampoo for your clothes, while fabric softener is like conditioner. You wouldn’t skip conditioner after shampooing your hair, so why not follow the same logic when washing your clothes?!

Once I started using Downy Fabric Conditioner, I noticed a huge difference in the way my clothes (and especially knits) look and feel. I no longer have to worry about washing my favourite knitwear pieces, because Downy Fabric Conditioner protects clothes at the fibre level to reduce damage from daily wear and frequent washing, which can prematurely age your clothes. When fibres are conditioned, they’re protected against stretching, fading, and pilling, giving you an extra season or two out of your favourite pieces. Even knitwear pros at We Are Knitters trust Downy Fabric Conditioner with their knits!

Thanks to Downy even my most frequently worn (and washed) sweaters look like new, and hopefully will continue to do so year after year.

What about you? Do you use Downy Fabric Conditioner to protect your knits? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Chloe Carlina

26 November, 2016 Nelia

I’ve been obsessed with these oversized sunglasses from Chloe for a while now, but I wasn’t sure if I could pull off such a statement look. What do you think? I think I’m in love. I have a ton of fun sunglasses in my closet, but this pair is my current favourite – with its bug-eyed shape, lightly-tinted lenses, and curvy frame – reminds me a bit of those early 2000’s JLo days, but in a good way. Incidentally, she actually owns a pair too!

If you’re looking for a pair of statement eyewear yourself, there’s no better time to pick one up. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale happening over at Smart Buy Glasses, you can snag a pair of cool designer sunnies for a fraction of the regular price. And their shipping is lightning-fast!

So tell me, what do you think of Chloe Carlina sunnies? Which sunglasses are your favourite? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Cozy AF

When you know, you know. And the moment I laid eyes on this sweater dress, I knew that we were meant to be together. This dress is perfection wrapped in cozy dreams and chicness, and I now own it in two colours. Because when you find something as perfect as this oversized beauty, you buy it in every colour possible. This dress actually reminds of this H&M score from last year, and with the addition of another ankle-length cashmere dress I picked up from COS, it looks like I’ll be nice and toasty all winter long, and I don’t mind it one bit.

Just in case you too would like to be wrapped in snuggie-level softness without looking like you’ve given up on life, check out some of my fave sweaters and sweater dresses above. And those boots too, because Acne Studios can do no wrong in my book.

What I Wore: Overalls for Grownups

If you’ve been looking for a perfect pair of black overalls – ones that won’t make you look like a plumber – your search is over, because this pair from Gap is amazing (and currently on sale!). Stretchy, with a slight kick flare, and a perfect length to show off your favourite boots – these overalls have it all, and I’m so glad I found them.

What do you think of the overalls trend? Would you wear them? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Cat’s Pajamas

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’ve been obsessed with this Drake’s for J.Crew pajama outfit for a while now, so, of course, as soon as the collection landed in stores, I snapped it up. And while most people wouldn’t consider wearing silk pajamas to a fancy party, I wore mine to the Nordstrom Eaton Centre store opening, and spent the night saying “thank you”, because this outfit was a huge hit. Props to J.Crew for making a comfy outfit look and feel so exquisite.

But enough about my amazing PJs, let’s talk about Nordstrom! That store is a joy to shop in, and I’m really excited about its arrival in Toronto (they carry Madewell, y’all!). With a stunning shoe department full of both high-end and more affordable designer names, several fancy boutiques like Miu Miu and Loewe, a monogramming station (something I’ll surely be using come Christmas shopping season), an Alexander Wang shop-in-shop, and my new obsession – Sugarfina candy (the Jamaican Rum Snowballs are thebomb.com), this store has become my must-visit in the city, and pretty soon, there’s going to be a second location at Yorkdale Shopping Centre!

If you’d like to celebrate the opening of Nordstrom’s second Toronto location, make sure to grab your tickets before they sell out! The Nordstrom Yorkdale Shopping Centre Gala will take place on October 19th at 7pm, and gala proceeds will be donated to several charitable foundations. More details can be found here. See you there?

What I Wore: The Future is Bright

Last weekend, I finally got to check out the much talked about in/future “festival of art and music at Ontario Place”. And while, I think this “art experience” was definitely overpriced and overhyped, there were a few interesting installations to check out, and the views from Ontario Place were certainly worth it. If anything, in/future was great for outfit photos, which we obviously took advantage of.

As you can see, I chopped off my hair, and now have to re-learn how to dress for this haircut all over again. To be honest, it feels weird seeing myself in the mirror and in photos, and not having colourful hair, but exciting at the same time. I’m looking forward to dressing for fall, and being a brunette again, even if I’m really starting to miss my long unicorn locks. Hopefully, this haircut will grow on me, but a much longer post on this subject coming soon.

What I Wore: WMCFW Outfit Roundup

24 November, 2015 Nelia

I’ve been meaning to share some of the street style photos of my outfits from WMCFW, and while it’s been over a month, I really love these photos, so I guess better late than never? This season, with my hair a shocking shade of blue, I had to be careful not to dress too crazy while still staying true to my playful spirit. Naturally, I gravitated to black and complimenting shades of blue, but I also ended up wearing colourful stripes one day, because why the heck not? Let me know which look is your fave in the comments.

What I Wore: Winter Is Coming

If you live in Toronto, you know we’ve had a pretty good run weatherwise. Thanks to this mild and sunny fall, we all got more use out of leather jackets and light coats. But (and don’t hate me for saying this), I think it might be time for heavier coats…perhaps not for the heavy-duty parkas just yet, but definitely for those faux fur chubbies and cozy wool coats.

Just in time for those plunging temperatures, I picked up this reversible faux fur jacket at Ann Taylor during their Friends & Family sale at 30% off, and it was like buying two coats for the price of one – a furry one and a nylon one. I’m not happy about the weather changing, but this coat is making it just a little more bearable.

What I Wore: Snug Like a Snuggie

I want to stay in denial, but fall really is here…and that means cold, wind, and rain. The other day it was so freezing in the morning, I couldn’t get out of bed for almost an hour! Luckily, I bought this amazing oversized wool sweater from H&M a while back, and on days when I don’t feel like getting up or getting dressed, this is what I wear. The sweater is super long and roomy, can be worn with boots or sneakers, and makes me feel like I am wrapped in the coziest blanket all day long. It’s like a more stylish Snuggie, without the stigma. Every time I wear it, I get a ton of compliments and envious looks…who wouldn’t want to wear a blanket in public in a socially-acceptable way? The only person that’s not impressed with my obsession with this knitwear muumuu equivalent is le bf, who rolls his eyes every time I stammer down the stairs wearing this dress. I think he’s just jealous that he doesn’t have one. Get your own blanket dress, le bf!

What I Wore: Warm Spell

19 January, 2015 Nelia

This past weekend, Torontonians got a momentary respite from the snow and frigid cold, and it felt wonderful. With temperatures hitting above zero, Canadians wasted no time shedding their winter layers, walking around in light coats, and swapping those scary winter boots for the cuter fall versions. I joined in on the fun, by wearing my coat open, with light but warm layers underneath. I felt so free!

Le bf and I took a stroll aroung Yonge and Lawrence, finally making our way to Bobette and Belle for a little afternoon treat, and we loved it! The place is inviting and oh-so-very-stylish, with yummy hot drinks, and even better desserts. I’m definitely going to be back!

By the end of the day, the weather had turned, and as we were making our way home, I had to button up, pull my coat’s collar up in order to avoid the wet snow from creeping inside my coat. I guess winter’s back, but we did get a little taste of spring, even if for a day.
