My CHANEL Haute Couture Fall 2014 Appointment

31 October, 2014 Nelia

chanel-haute-couture-fall-2014-details-17

Last month, while attending NYFW, I was invited to stop by the CHANEL showroom (!!!) to check out the CHANEL Haute Couture Fall 2014 collection in person. I don’t need to tell you that right after I was done pinching myself, I replied with an emphatic YASSS. I had a chance to visit the haute couture salons in Paris, and already knew that the level of craftsmanship of CHANEL couture garments is next level, so to be able to see yet another collection up-close-and-personal, sounded like a dream.

Just like in July, I was in awe of the collection. But this time around, I actually got to touch the pieces, see them in front of my eyes, and imagine that they were hanging in my wardrobe (as if!). I got to see how cool the silicone-coated lace looks, how glam concrete beads are in Karl’s imaginative hands, and just how exquisite the endless intricate embroidery on gowns, coats, and accessories is. But let’s get back to concrete. Those grey bead-like detailing is actually concrete! And surprisingly, it wasn’t as heavy as one would imagine. Sure, the shrug covered in hundreds of those beads wasn’t exactly light, but pieces that had concrete sprinkled on were perfectly manageable, and of course, stunning. Who would’ve thought?

The use of molded scuba fabric also made for some dramatic silhouettes, flattering, but never boring. I was a little sad that I didn’t get to see the puffy blue confection of a gown in person, so in its absence, the red dress blooming with small plastic flowers became the showstopper of the collection – both classic and modern at the same time, and so-very-beautiful. It’s at times like those, I find myself wishing I could live a jetsetting and glamorous life of scandal and intrigue, where CHANEL haute couture is par for the course, and parties where one gets to wear creations like the ones I saw are commonplace. I may be referring to a movie-level type of life, but one can always dream, no?

Anyway…enough of my obsessive ramblings. Check out some close-up photos I took at the showroom, and let me know if you find these as impressive as I do.

It’s Here! Complete Altuzarra for Target Lookbook!

13 August, 2014 Nelia

altuzarra-for-target-full-lookbook-25

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Altuzarra for Target collection will be hitting the stores on September 14th, and we FINALLY have the entire lookbook to gawk at. Consisting of 50 pieces, and ranging in price from $18-$90, the collection seems to be a lot more wearable than most collabs we’ve seen as of late. For one, there are a lot of work-appropriate separates, dresses that can be worn to a 9-5 job, and to a date after, a lot of timeless silhouettes, sexy cuts, snakeskin, lace, oh my! Speaking of lace…that lace mask may be very Fifty Shades, but I truly find myself needing it a lot more than I probably should.

Apart from the lace mask, my list will include the Swiss dot maxi (oh-so-70s!), the faux fur jacket, that terrific velvet suit, and of course, the black tuxedo-style dress with a sexy slit – all pieces that I can see having longevity inside my overstuffed closet.

But what about you? What do you think about this highly-anticipated collection? Will you be among the early birds on September 14th at your local Target store? Share your faves in the comments!

What I Wore: Let Them Eat Cake

30 July, 2014 Nelia

versailles-france-what-i-wore-15

The Palace of Versailles has always been a place I wanted to visit eventually…what with all the drama, intrigue, excess, and history surrounding this royal château, I knew it would be worth the trek. The only reason that I have avoided visiting Versailles for so long is the fear of endless line-ups and tourists. Usually, with the exception of the Eiffel Tower, we try to stay away from crowded and touristy places, but this time around, we decided to just go for it.

As expected, the place was teeming with people…SO.MANY.PEOPLE! But not to worry, after about 30 minutes of waiting for our tickets, and then lining up to get in, we were finally inside Marie Antoinette’s stomping grounds! The palace was definitely very impressive, with rooms full of beautiful art, ornate doors (and ceilings, and floors), and of course, plenty of historic tidbits to glimpse and learn – totally worth it the wait.

But as cool as it was to see the Hall of Mirrors and the grand apartment de la reine in person, the gardens were a highlight for me. After hours of frolicking around, lying in the grass, sipping iced chocolate on Angelina’s terrace, and taking way too many photographs, I don’t think we covered even half of the massive grounds. I guess another trip to Versailles is in order…maybe next year!

Have you ever visited Versailles? What was your favourite spot? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Easy Does It

10 June, 2014 Nelia

One of my favourite things about summer (other than endless sunshine, BBQs, beach days, and ice-cream) is dresses. I wouldn’t call myself a girlie-girl, but once summer rolls around, dresses is all I want to wear. I’m sure I’ve blogged about that before, but here I go again. This one in particular is from Zara, and it was love at first sight. I bought it when it was still wintery and snowy outside, daydreaming of those warm afternoons when I would be able to throw it on, tie those faux sleeves around my waist and go – so easy and comfy.

I wore this on a neighbourhood discovery walk I took with le bf recently. Since we bought our house a year ago, we haven’t really had the chance to explore our new hood, and now that it’s summer again, we are making an effort to discover the cool things about the place we call home…like this amazing park we stumbled upon – with a stunning ravine, fun splash pad, and this beautifully-painted wall. Definitely a gem that we’ll keep in our regular rotation.

Wishlist: Chanel Cruise Dubai 2015 Collection

22 May, 2014 Nelia

chanel-resort-cruise-collection-dubai-2015

While I am usually a huge fan of Chanel and nearly everything the brand puts out there, the Chanel Cruise Dubai 2015 Collection actually took me by surprise. I knew I’d have a few favourites from the collection as I usually do, but this time around, my favourites included pretty much every single thing that I saw (save for the thong-sock-sandal-boot hybrid).

Set in the exotic and cosmopolitan emirate of Dubai, the collection was heavily inspired by the East-meets-West locale, while styling made sure to take into account the Sharia law, by covering up the models from neck to ankles. The collection included artfully printed gowns and harem pants – flowy and dream-like, classic-looking tweed pieces that I hope to one day add to my wardrobe, stunning covet-worthy coats, and of course – bags and accessories galore.

As usual, everything that Karl Lagerfeld sent down that Dubai runway looked immaculate, but only by seeing the close-up shots could you really appreciate just how intricate each and every one of those pieces is. This totally  justifies those Chanel prices, especially when you consider how many of the items are done by hand.

And while I absolutely adored Chanel Cruise Dubai 2015 Collection, I want to hear your thoughts on it. Did you love the prints? What about the bags? Please share in the comments!

Banana Republic Marimekko Collection Lookbook is Here!

5 May, 2014 Nelia

banana-republic-marimekko-lookbook-5

I’m not sure about you, but I’ve always been very fond of  the Finnish design house Marimekko. Their vibrant colours and iconic patterns are the definition of fun, and when I heard that Banana Republic was teaming up with Marimekko to create a collection, I was stoked! A few months ago I actually got a glimpse at the collection in person, but was not allowed to share what I saw…until now. Now that the lookbook is officially out, I can finally share my excitement about this collab…because I honestly want so many pieces! For budgetary reasons I won’t be buying everything my heart desires, but that full skirt, black and white pants, floral matchy-matchy top and shorts, blue maxi, and a floral blue and green dress must be mine!

The collection is priced moderately, with apparel ranging from $50-$175, and accessories from $69.50-$98. And since I’m currently packing for a much-needed vacation, I am super excited that the 25-piece collection will be hitting the stores on May 22nd, just in time for me to snag a piece of five.

What do you think about the Banana Republic Marimekko Collection? Share your favourite pieces in the comments!

What I Wore: Exclusive

15 April, 2014 Nelia

hm-conscious-exclusive-collection-blue-dress--2014-7

Even I can’t believe that I finally wore a dress without tights! It’s a Christmas miracle, people!!! Just like that, we went from wet snow to 20+ degree weather…from winter to summer in a matter of days. Not one to waste a good opportunity, I decided to take my new H&M Conscious Exclusive dress out for a spin. With its breezy lightweight fabric, and dreamy blue print, this is the most perfect dress for lazy spring days – dressy enough for a romantic dinner with le bf, but casual enough for a neighbourhood gelato run. It’s definitely a current favourite!

The rest of H&M Conscious Exclusive collection is just as good! With stunning boho dresses, elegant jumpsuits, exquisite matador-inspired embroidered pieces, coolest shoes and jewellery, and so much more…this collection is now in stores and should not be missed. But beware, you may not be able to walk away without getting one of everything. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!

20 March, 2014 Nelia

h&m-conscious-collection-spring-2014

Guys, it’s finally spring! And even though the weather isn’t cooperating yet, we can all get excited for warmer temperatures thanks to the latest H&M Conscious Exclusive collection! Created in collaboration with the sustainable fashion and design think-tank Ever Manifesto, the new collection is a gorgeous mix of boho dresses, chic separates, and embellished pieces. As someone who loves to get her lace on in the summer, I can’t wait to get my paws on a few white lacy frocks, the printed top with matching shorts, and that amazing necklace! Can I even call that a necklace? Whatever it is…it’s crazy-good!

The H&M Conscious Exclusive collection ranges from $34.95 for organic cotton voile blouses, to $299 for organza jacquard dresses, and will be hitting select stores on April 10th. Select pieces will also be sold on yoox.com in an area dedicated to Master & Muse, Amber Valletta’s initiative to promote environmental responsibility.

So tell me, what do you think about the latest Conscious collection? Will you be shopping this one? Share in the comments!

PS. Make sure to check out Kate Mara, Sophia Bush, Emmy Rossum, Camilla Belle and Amber Valletta wearing pieces from H&M Conscious Exclusive collection at last night’s launch!

Sarah Stevenson for Target Lookbook!

2 March, 2014 Nelia

sarah-stevenson-for-target-spring-2014-13

Canadian designer Sarah Stevenson is having a pretty damn good year so far! Not only did this Toronto Fashion Incubator New Labels Competition winner scored the Emerging Talent Award at the inaugural CAFA Awards, but her highly-anticipated Sarah Stevenson for Target collection will be hitting the stores in just a few weeks on March 23rd…and it’s GORGEOUS!

After seeing so many well-known designers do fast-fashion collabs (some more successful than others), it makes me really happy to finally see a Canadian designer collab that’s not only really well-executed, but  also true to the designer’s aesthetic. “As a textile and fashion designer, her collection features richly hued florals and feminine, sophisticated styles. Inspired by nature, her collection is timeless, elegant and romantic.”

Pieces from the collection will range from $24.99 to $59.99, making this one of the most affordable designer collabs ever. And at those prices, I just know that I’ll be picking up at least a few of Sarah’s beautiful pieces (floral blazer, laser-cut blouse, peplum dress, and blue laser-cut dress are my must-haves from this collection).

So what do you think of Sarah Stevenson for Target? Share in the comments! And I’ll see you at Target on March 23rd!

Style Fille: Emma Watson

19 February, 2014 Nelia

emma-watson-giambattista-valli

Just as I started to feel like I will never see something new and fresh on the red carpet, I’m proven wrong…and I love it! I mean, just look at this stunning Giambattista Valli Haute Couture dress that Emma Watson wore on the red carpet parquet floor at the Elle Style Awards 2014! It’s daring, it’s fun, it’s so effing cool, and I want it on my body. Love how the skirt is an exaggerated bow, love the sequined “crop-top”, and love that Emma chose to go relatively jewel-free for the occasion, letting the dress be the star of the show. Love it all!

This is what I’ve been craving lately. More creativity on the red carpet, and less beige blah embroidered mermaid-skirted “Taylor-Swiftness”. Is that too much to ask?
