CHANEL Resort 2019 – La Pausa

6 May, 2018 Nelia

chanel-la-pausa-t-shirt-2019
The only way you could get me on a cruise ship ever is if the vessel was in fact a CHANEL La Pausa faux ship set in the middle of Grand Palais as a setting of the Resort 2019 fashion show. As always, mining the history of the iconic fashion house for inspiration, this year’s setting was partially inspired by La Pausa – Coco Chanel’s summer house in the South of France along with the fact that Coco was one of the first designers to create vacation clothes aka resortwear as far back as 1919. And while most of us don’t live in a world where we buy an entire new designer wardrobe for our vacations, resort collections usually tend to be my favourites…transporting me to far away locales, and helping me plan my own vacation outfits. This collection was no exception.

Consisting of a chic variety of easy-breezy dresses, striped pants and skirts, and CC-branded tees and sweaters, the CHANEL Resort 2019 collection is a jet-setter’s dream wardrobe and more. With logomania trend still going strong, I have a feeling that those tees and sweaters will go fast…just like the ones from the Cuba collection. Personally, I fell in love with a few double-breasted tweed jackets from this collection. I’ve been patiently waiting for “the one” CHANEL jacket, and I think a few from this collection fit the bill. Fingers crossed!

Wishlist: CHANEL Fall 2018 Collection

11 March, 2018 Nelia

If at first glance you thought that the CHANEL Fall 2018 presentation was shown outdoors in an autumnal forest, you wouldn’t be the only one. The realism of the faux forest is a testament to Karl Lagerfeld’s determination to transform the Grand Palais into the most fantastical settings season after season and I am here for it. Of course, the decor was dreamed up to complement the Fall 2018 collection, with its palette of reds and orange, moss and pine green, black and brown, as well as a handful of foliage-like prints, and details that included entwined branches forming CCs, leaves chiselled on intricate buttons, and even a wooden log minaudiere!

Speaking of accessories, a new bag, named 31, was introduced this season – a generously sized shopper shown in several colours and finishes, and by the looks of it pretty versatile to boot. Not sure if it’s going to become another classic, but I am definitely curious to check it out once it arrives in stores. CHANEL’s GABRIELLE bag made an appearance in a mini version, printed and in gold leather. I’ve yet to add one to my collection, but I am seriously crushing on this smaller version – super chic!

And while normally, I am all about prints and colours, this time around I found myself entranced by the more muted pieces…that is if you can call a floor-length iridescent velvet coat a muted piece. There were so many beautiful coats on the runway this season that I simply lost count, but the longer silhouettes felt both fresh and timeless at the same time. Take note for fall, and start saving those pennies.

So tell me, what did you think about the CHANEL Fall 2018 collection? Are you curious about the new 31 bag? Share in the comments.

Each season, I wait with anticipation, wondering what theme Karl Lagerfeld will dream up for the latest CHANEL show, and I have to say that this season’s Verdon Gorge setting was an unexpected surprise. To be honest, I’ve never even heard of this river canyon until the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2018 show, but now I am determined to visit it for myself one day! If it’s good enough for Karl’s inspo, then it must be a sight to see!

With faux Verdon Gorge bringing the outdoors indoor at the Grand Palais, Kaia Gerber (looking every bit like Baby Cindy) opened the show in a tweed crop top and thigh-high vinyl boots. Vinyl was used heavily throughout the collection, from transparent boater hats, to iridescent fringe details, to a wide variety of bags…and I’ve never wanted something plastic more in my entire life!

Speaking of bags, there were a lot of new styles and silhouettes on the runway this season – logo totes and duffle bags, vinyl boy, bucket, and oversized tote bags, what looked like a CHANEL Girl bag, but as a tote version instead, even arm pouches and fanny packs! As someone who already has a few classic bags in rotation, I’d love to add a fun piece to my closet, and CHANEL Spring-Summer 2018 collection looks like it’ll have something for everyone.

The clothes were playful and exquisite as always, with signature pastel tweed jackets, flowy dresses, culotte tweed jumpsuits, and so much more. And though I doubt anyone would wear these to hike the Verdon Gorge, but if they did, they’d be the chicest hikers around.

Beauty: Introducing GABRIELLE CHANEL

6 September, 2017 Nelia

For the first time in 15 years (!!!), the House of Chanel has released a brand new fragrance – GABRIELLE CHANEL, named, of course, after the the inimitable Gabrielle Coco Chanel. Created by Olivier Polge, GABRIELLE is a fresh floral fragrance with warm notes of Jasmine, fruity scent of Ylang-Ylang, fresh essence of Orange Blossom, and a finishing touch of Grasse Tuberose. This feminine fragrance is an instant classic, and the streamlined yet striking square bottle only reinforces its timelessness.

To celebrate the new fragrance, a beautiful mini film starring Kristen Stewart and directed by Ringan Ledwidge was released, capturing the essence of the rebellious spirit of Gabrielle Chanel. If you’re still not familiar with the designer’s history of breaking the rules and reinventing herself, make sure to watch the Inside CHANEL videos linked below. They offer a fascinating glimpse at Coco Chanel’s life and of course the history of CHANEL.

As for me, I am smitten with GABRIELLE CHANEL. I’ve been lucky enough to wear it for a few weeks now and it’s my current go-to perfume – can’t get enough! The new fragrance is now available at all CHANEL Beauty counters in Canada, so make sure to stop by and try it for yourself.

CHANEL Resort 2018 Collection – Modernity of Antiquity

10 May, 2017 Nelia

I’ve been meaning to write about the CHANEL Cruise 2018 show for a few days now, but life and work got in the way…until now. Unlike many of the CHANEL resort shows, this year’s Modernity of Antiquity collection was presented in Paris instead of the destination which inspired the designs. But of course, that just meant that the Grand Palais was transformed into Karl’s vision of Ancient Greece, complete with weathered columns and crumbling rocks, sparse greenery, and a headless statue of Venus (a copy of Coco Chanel’s own statue that I was lucky to see at her rue Cambon apartment in Paris). The collection itself was both very true to the spirit of CHANEL, but with many subtle (and not to subtle) nods to its Hellenic inspirations.

The palette consisted of neutrals and blues, punctuated by pops of gold. It’s not my personal preference when it comes to clothing, but I did appreciate the intricate vine embroidery and vase-inspired prints. Traditional CHANEL tweeds were transformed into chic togas, strappy heels had Greek columns for heels, and plenty of covet-worthy jewels were on display – from dainty chokers to stacked cuffs and armbands. Standout accessories included a gold coin clutch, gilded laurel leaf sunglasses (NEED!!!), and statement belts, though my personal favourite was probably the metallic backpack in what appeared to be pleated leather. Just like with the CHANEL Cuba collection, I predict the CC logo t-shirt to become yet another best-seller, both wearable and so uniquely CHANEL.

CHANEL Spring/Summer 2017 Ad Campaign

26 January, 2017 Nelia

If you’ve been patiently waiting for the “Data Center” CHANEL Spring/Summer 2017 collection to arrive in stores, today is the day…the pre-collection hits the stores! Which means we still have to wait until March for Spring/Summer 2017 collection to arrive. But you can still enjoy the colourful and playful ad campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld, featuring that coveted (and adorable) robot minaudiere.

“The silhouettes combine striking pieces and an accumulation of pieces of fine jewellery. A silk jacket with a hypnotic print is embellished with sautoirs and necklaces in white or yellow gold, diamonds and multi-colour cultured pearls, and with rings and earrings in white gold and diamonds, from the Plume de CHANEL, Sous le signe du Lion, Camélia and Ruban collections. The high-tech aesthetic of two J12 watches in white ceramic completes the look.

A series of resin and silvery metal cuffs accessorise a patent leather jacket worn with the BOY CHANEL handbag, the iconic House handbag revisited here in a perforated white leather version. A fanny pack nonchalantly clashes with a multi-colour cotton tweed jacket and skirt ensemble worn with a yellow crêpe de chine blouse.”

I’m going to be popping into my local boutique today to check out some of the pieces from the pre-collection in person, but what I’m really excited about are those camellia sunnies, though if you had a chance to peruse the CHANEL app, you probably have seen the really cool jewelry from Spring/Summer 2017 pre-collection too. Being good is going to be very, VERY hard today.

Shopping: Buying Your First CHANEL Bag

9 January, 2017 Nelia

If you’ve been following this blog for a few years, you know that I am a huge CHANEL fangirl. Over the years, I’ve gotten many emails from readers who also love CHANEL and want to buy a bag, but for a variety of reasons haven’t pulled the trigger just yet. Questions range from “when is the best time to buy” to “how can you afford all these bags”. Well, today’s post is all about buying your first (or second, or tenth) CHANEL bag, and how to do it without going broke and having to eat ramen for a year. If you’re the type of person who believes that it’s insane to spend thousands of dollars on a designer bag, then this post is definitely not for you, but if you are seriously considering this major purchase and need a few helpful suggestions, then keep reading.

1. Choose Your Style
A classic CHANEL bag is an investment. Year after year, prices of CHANEL products continue to rise, and with each increase, it becomes more and more difficult to get your hands on a coveted bag. Back in 2008 a friend of mine picked up a medium CHANEL 2.55 bag for around CAD 2,000.00. At the time, I thought she was crazy. Fast forward to 2010, and I was picking up my own 2.55 wishing I’d done it much sooner. The lesson here is that if you can afford a bag now and know exactly which style you’re after, then waiting around is not the best strategy. As ridiculous as the price may seem initially, these bags are supposed to last you a lifetime (with proper care) – an heirloom for your future kids, and a bag that looks great on 20 and 80 year olds alike.

But in order to commit to spending a ton of money on one item, you first need to know which style you are crazy about. Are you a classic flap girl, always dreamed of having a CHANEL Boy bag, or are you more of a backpack girl? Choose a style that suits your personality, and one you can foresee yourself proudly wearing a few years down the road. Carefully consider the colour of hardware (silver, gold, gunmetal), the length of the strap (do you prefer cross-body, over the shoulder, or both?), the type of leather (lambskin is more fragile, caviar is less scratch-prone), reissue or classic, and of course the overall colour (black is a no-brainer, but maybe you’ve always dreamed of one in colourful tweed). Go to a nearby boutique and ask to see a few bags. Try them on, look inside, see how versatile each bag is and whether it’s comfortable to carry. Don’t be shy, it’s better to be 100% certain that the bag you’re buying is the one for you, especially when it’s your first.

2. Save Up
If you’re not one of the lucky few who can afford to buy a bag right away, then saving up is key. Go to your bank and open a savings account with automated weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly contributions. Little by little, your savings will add up, and perhaps with the help of your yearly bonus (or maybe lotto winnings?) some day soon you’ll be able to march into the nearby CHANEL boutique and finally buy the bag of your dreams. It should go without saying that if you’re saving up for a big purchase, then another way to save your pennies is to reduce the number of times you eat out and get take out coffee. Bringing lunch to work may seem like a chore, but in the end, you’ll be able to save faster. Another way to beef up your CHANEL fund is to ask your friends and family for CHANEL gift cards for your birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or whatever other holidays you celebrate. At the risk of sounding completely out of touch, let me just say that CHANEL gift cards are available in many denominations – you can get one for as little as $20! So if you’re comfortable telling your parents, your spouse, or your friends that you are currently saving up for a bag and would appreciate a gift card from CHANEL in lieu of other gifts, I am sure they won’t judge (or maybe they will, but that’s a different story). This is especially handy for those of us who are really tough to buy for, so really, it’s a win-win for everyone.

What I Wore: Cozy AF

When you know, you know. And the moment I laid eyes on this sweater dress, I knew that we were meant to be together. This dress is perfection wrapped in cozy dreams and chicness, and I now own it in two colours. Because when you find something as perfect as this oversized beauty, you buy it in every colour possible. This dress actually reminds of this H&M score from last year, and with the addition of another ankle-length cashmere dress I picked up from COS, it looks like I’ll be nice and toasty all winter long, and I don’t mind it one bit.

Just in case you too would like to be wrapped in snuggie-level softness without looking like you’ve given up on life, check out some of my fave sweaters and sweater dresses above. And those boots too, because Acne Studios can do no wrong in my book.

Wishlist: CHANEL Spring 2017 Collection

6 October, 2016 Nelia

chanel-spring-2017-rtw-collection2
As a huge fan of CHANEL and all things colourful, I really loved Data Center CHANEL Spring 2017 collection. With vibrant tweeds and prints aplenty, this collection made me wish we could skip winter and just get to spring again. But alas, at least we have something beautiful to look forward to.

CHANEL Spring 2017 collection was inspired by technology and all things digital. Models dressed as robots walked the wired-up runway, wearing clothes in a variety of electric prints like colour bursts and pixels. Some handbags had embedded LED displays with animated customized messages, while the signature minaudiere from the Spring 2017 collection was shaped as the cutest robot ever – these bags will surely become collectors’ items as soon as they arrive at boutiques (and sell out immediately).

And while I won’t be wearing a sideways cap any time soon, I am more than happy to embrace the underwear as outerwear trend that CHANEL and Karl Lagerfeld seem to be on board with for spring. Lace slips and silk PJ bottoms – garments that are usually relegated to the bedroom, or worn discreetly under our clothes – were on full display, and I’m totally into it. It seems that I’ll be getting lots more wear from my camisole dresses after all.

chanel-fall-2016-2017-ad-campaign10
I’ve been waiting and waiting for CHANEL Fall 2016/2017 collection to finally arrive in stores, and today it actually happened! FINALLY! I’ve had a CHANEL gift card burning a hole in my pocket since my birthday, and at last, I used it to pick up a cat-shaped CHANEL brooch – so purr-fectly me!

But don’t fret, if cats aren’t your thing, this collection is chock-full of other amazing things, from fun accessories to timeless bags. Pieces will continue to arrive in stores, so if you don’t see something at the store right away, make sure to ask a sales associate to do a quick check. Persistence definitely pays off.

In the meantime, check out this playful CHANEL Parade ad campaign, created by (who else?!) Karl Lagerfeld, and showcasing some of the pieces from the Fall 2016/2017 collection. Share your fave pieces after the jump!
