Playing Now: Netflix Dinner Party feat. Yours Truly

17 May, 2017 Nelia

Last month, in a surreal turn of events, I filmed something really fun with Netflix. It wasn’t an actual TV show, but Netflix did build us a set, filmed us with 4 different cameras, and made us feel like the stars that we aren’t.

The premise of the Netflix Dinner Party was simple – our gracious host Andrew Dobson of Dobbernation Loves invited a few friends over for yummy bites and dishy conversation – unscripted and raw. We chatted about our fave Netflix shows like The Crown, Grace and Frankie, Riverdale, Stranger Things, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Santa Clarita Diet, and Orange is the New Black, all while enjoying delicious food, and sipping beer through straws (ridiculous, I know…but lipstick stayed on and that’s all that matters!). We discussed pressing issues like “what would your dream vibrator look like?”, “who would you invite to your royal wedding?”, and “how would you kill your zombie boyfriend?”…After watching the zombie episode, le bf was extra nice to me all week…perhaps because of how quickly I answered that question? Either way, he shouldn’t worry as long as he doesn’t start exhibiting zombie-like symptoms. In other news, my Putin statue went mysteriously missing.

Anyway, now that all 7 mini episodes are available, I thought I’d share them here. Hope you enjoy watching these as much as we enjoyed filming them. If you only choose to watch one…I suggest the “Dream Vibrator” epi, so that you can watch Jonathan say “Netflix and Drill” with a straight face.

Let me know what you think in the comments!

Highlights from the Best Buy Life & Wearable Tech Expo and Fashion Show

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the 2nd annual Best Buy Life & Wearable Tech Expo and Fashion Show held at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. Alongside my blogger buds Casie Stewart, Gracie Carroll, and Jay Strut, I checked out the latest in wearable technology, and chatted with tech expert Tom Emrich and stylist Afiya Francisco about all things style and tech.

With the abundance of new products on the market, it can feel both intimidating and exhausting trying to figure out which products are worth trying, so I asked Tom to share his Top 5 wearable tech products and why he’s excited about them. Thinking that I was already on top of all the latest releases, I quickly realized that I was wrong, because I’ve never even heard of the first must-have on Tom’s list – the kate spade new york wearable tech. Soon to be released are the most adorable fitness trackers you’ve ever laid your eyes on. You actually won’t believe that these accessories aren’t just meant to look good. Other items that made Tom’s list are the upcoming Fossil smartwatches (style and substance), Muse Brain-Sensing Headband (to remind you to take some “me” time), Merge VR Goggles (because VR is the future of gaming and possibly many other forms of entertainment), and iON SnapCam (for documenting life’s moments without interruptions).

Another thing to keep in mind when considering wearable tech products is definitely the style element. Afiya’s rule of thumb is to make sure that the product must suit your personal style, otherwise you probably won’t get much use out of it. This rang especially true for me, as seeing this gorgeous Fitbit Alta Metal Band made me choose this specific Fitbit model over other fitness trackers on the market.

After the interviews, my friends and I sat down for the fashion show, seeing just how wearable so many of the tech accessories are today. Though I won’t be strolling the streets with VR goggles on my head any time soon, I love the elegance and simplicity of the many smartwatches and fitness bands available at Best Buy right now…and I’m certainly excited for what’s to come in the near future.

So tell me, do you own any wearable technology products? Why or why not? Share in the comments.

What They Wore: H&M Eaton Centre Re-Opening Party

26 February, 2016 Nelia

It’s no secret that I have a special kind of love for H&M. You can usually find me stalking this or that item at one of their stores at least twice a week. It’s an addiction, and probably a problem, but I like it that way…really. Well, after what felt like a million years, H&M Eaton Centre has finally revealed its spectacular renovation, with bright decor, stunning lighting fixtures, and lots and lots more square footage. The flagship location now boasts 57,000 square feet, and carries H&M Home, H&M Beauty, along with all the usual suspects. It’s now one of the largest H&M stores in the world, and it’s right here in Toronto! So to celebrate this major achievement, Team H&M threw a huge party organized by the inimitable Candice & Alison, with celeb performances by Taryn Manning and Alessia Cara, Sam and Cailli Beckerman on the red carpet, Jay Strut DJing, and a ton of stylish guests toasting the newly re-opened store.

Of course, the first thing I did as we entered the store was run over to the H&M Studio section and grab a few coveted pieces, followed by a trip down the escalator to check out the new H&M Home section. It may have been the excitement, but the home section looked larger than the ones I saw in New York, while the selection was essentially the same – a wide assortment of cushion covers, cute bedding and towels, adorable knick-knacks, and lots more. One more reason to keep my weekly appointments at H&M. Now that Toronto has every single H&M category available, the next logical step is ONLINE SHOPPING! US has had an e-commerce site for nearly three years now, here’s hoping for a Canadian one soon. Fingers crossed!
