Huge thanks to Matchstick and Sumaya for this lovely giveaway!
That’s it…and GOOD LUCK!!!
Huge thanks to Sumaya and Matchstick for hooking me up with the newest Calvin Klein fragrance, called BEAUTY along with some gorgeous calla lilies! Did you know that the calla lily is the only flower allowed at Calvin Klein’s offices and his home? And composition of BEAUTY itself was inspired by the gracious curves and beauty of the calla lily. BEAUTY aims to depict the internal beauty of a woman, her strength and spirit.
“It’s very elegant, and that’s why we wanted to work with Diane (Kruger). This woman we’re trying to portray — she’s not someone who doesn’t have experiences in her life. We wanted this woman to be worldly and well-traveled, a confident woman and a woman who had strength.” said Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American Fragrances at Coty Prestige.
I have to be honest, the scent did seem to be a bit too much for me at first, but upon further applications it really started to grow on me. I like the warm, spicy floral notes of BEAUTY – and the body chemistry makes the scent smell a bit less crisp, and a bit more musky (just the way I like it). Along with the bottle of BEAUTY, I also received a few samples to give to my friends and family, and the feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive.
So, if BEAUTY sounds like something you’d like to try, you might be in serious luck, as FASHION magazine had just launched an amazing contest! All you need to do to enter FASHION magazine’s Calvin Klein BEAUTY It Touches Everything Contest is submit a photo of what you think is beautiful (can be anything). The contest prize is worth $2500 – and it includes a shopping spree, calla lily deliveries for six months, a basket of CK fragrances, spa day and much more! You will also get a sample of BEAUTY just for entering. Not sure which photo I’m going to submit, but in the meantime – good luck to all of you!
Valentine’s Day is less than 2 weeks away, and I am still stuck on le boyfriend’s gift! What to get for a man that has (seemingly) everything? Well, that’s my problem to solve (unless you have some helpful advice). And though I won’t likely be doing a men’s gift guide this year, here are a few gift ideas for the guys that might also be struggling with what to buy for their beloved (obsessed with that word).
I am always happy to get a perfume for any occasion, and if you know your girlfriend well-enough, a sexy fragrance might just be what the doctor ordered! My current faves are below.
1. Coach Poppy Perfume ($60) Recently launched, Poppy is simply lovely, with notes of jasmine, gardenia, cucumber, and rose petals. I got a chance to try it for myself, and I must admit that I really liked it! It’s light and fresh…and simply amazing! 2. Calvin Klein BEAUTY Perfume ($89-$115) I’ve said so much about BEAUTY already. Read all about it here to decide whether your girlfriend might love it, or check out a tester at the mall. 3. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb ($105-$185) This is the one I use right now. The fragrance is sweet and feminine, the bottle is all glitter and glamour – the best of both worlds! If perfume is not your (or your girl’s) thing, a few other gifts might sweeten her day.
4. Danier Red Clutch/Wallet ($39 on sale) Perfect for a romantic dinner out, this leather clutch will hold all of her essentials and spice up her outfit. 5. Louis Vuitton Heart Coin Purse ($455) Penny-pinching has never been so stylish! Also comes in a showstopping leopard print! 6. Banana Republic Bracelet ($50) Don’t buy her earrings or a cocktail ring for Valentine’s Day, lest she confuse the small box with an engagement ring! That one might create some awkwardness. Get her a bracelet or a necklace instead. Banana Republic has a really lovely selection (at amazing prices). 7. Locher’s Necklace ($53-$71) Speaking of necklaces, I’ve been a Locher’s fan for years! The designs are cute and sassy. And if your girl has a sense of humour, I guarantee that she will love it! 8. Heart-shaped Macarons ($4 each) They are macarons, shaped as hearts. Go get ’em NOW at my fave MoRoCo Chocolat. 9. Your Love (priceless) If all else fails, a simple I LOVE YOU should do. Adding “just the way you are” at the end will earn you some brownie points. It is a day to celebrate your love, after all…not some materialistic holiday, masterminded by Hallmark to bilk you out of millions of dollars!!! 10. A Card Even though I said that thing about Hallmark, most of us (ladies) would still like a card. So make sure to get her one (Papyrus cards are amazing)! The one I got for le boyfriend this year kicks ass!So this little post might or might not have been helpful in your search for a perfect Valentine’s Day gift. If it wasn’t very helpful, I am sorry…email me for more genius ideas. Happy Shopping!
Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? I’m proud to say, that I’m half-way done…only a few big ones left on my list, and then I can begin enjoying the season, instead of running around like a madwoman from one store to another on my lunch hour and after work…who knew that shopping can be so exhausting?!
Just in case you’re still stumped, here are a few gift ideas for that special woman in your life. Some are under $10, and others…in case you really want to pamper that stylish lady of yours, are a bit more expensive. Enjoy!
1. Love Moschino Clutch $190 (The Bay)
2. Lanvin for H&M Shoes $99 (H&M)
3. Fornasetti Candle $150 (AT Design)
4. Gap Bow Belt $25 (Gap)
5. Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara $8.99 (Shoppers)
6. The September Issue DVD $22 (Best Buy, HMV)
7. Calvin Klein BEAUTY $89-$115 (The Bay)
8. Swarovski USB Stick $120 (Swarovski)
9. Olympia Le Tan Book Clutch $1500 (The Room)
10. Danier Leather Gloves $49 (Danier)
I’ve professed my love for Josh and Diane many times before, but still…they are my favorite Hollywood couple, and I couldn’t not share these photos with you. Here’s Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger loving it up in Paris and New York City, looking cute and stylish in the process.
In other Diane news, according to WWD, “Calvin Klein Inc. and Coty Inc. will reveal today that Diane Kruger — who will be attending tonight’s Costume Institute opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa — is the face of the brand’s newest fragrance, Calvin Klein Beauty, due out this fall. Kruger will appear in print and television advertising, and joins a long list of notables who have appeared in Calvin Klein fragrance advertising, including Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes.”
So happy! Because that means we’ll be seeing much more of the German beauty, and hopefully her adorable boyfriend too!

The Best
So it’s only 7pm on Oscars night, and it might be a bit presumptuous of me, but I am declaring the radiant Lupita Nyong’o my best-dressed of the evening in her stunning custom-made blue Prada gown and Fred Leighton jewels. Watching her on the red carpet made me fall in love with her all over again. It was so refreshing to see someone so well-adjusted, eloquent, humble, funny, and gorgeous on the red carpet. I could watch her for HOURS.
Cate Blanchett in a stunning beaded Armani Prive gown looked ethereal and every bit like the winner that she is. She always carries herself with so much confidence and class. And of course, she truly is one of the most stylish women out there, so even though I was a bit sad not to see her in something more adventurous, I think this gown was still a perfect choice for a Best Actress nominee (and winner?).
As much as I usually hate the safe black or white gowns on the red carpet, the stunning Bulgari necklace over this beaded Calvin Klein gown on Naomi Watts really elevated this look, and made me take notice. This is obviously nowhere near the amazingness that is Lupita Nyong’o’s Prada gown, but it definitely is one of my fave looks of the night.
Same goes for Charlize Theron in a stunning black gown. Only Charlize can make a black exciting and interesting on the red carpet. That deep plunge, perfect necklace to accentuate it, and of course that exquisite face – just perfect. I still can’t believe that THIS woman is dating Sean Penn. WHY?!
I was on the fence whether to add Kate Hudson in this Versace gown to my Best Dressed list, because there may be something off about that shiny fabric, but at the end of the day, that center knot, that cape, and that plunging neckline all sell it for me. She looks stunning and I love it.
The Worst and The Meh after the jump!
How boring was Emmy Awards fashion last night, you guys? And the actual award show itself, even with my beloved Neil Patrick Harris hosting – it was a snoozefest! If only my house had AMC and Showtime, I would surely be watching Breaking Bad and Dexter instead, but alas…Emmys it was.
Truth be told, I couldn’t find even FIVE starlets worthy the Best Dressed title, so instead, this year’s Emmy Awards get The Meh, The Blah, and The Bad awards here on Style Blog, with the exception of Lena Dunham. No, I don’t love her Prada dress, but it was by far the least boring gown on the red carpet last night, and for that, I commend her. The dress is cute and youthful, she looks pretty and happy, and she’s not wearing white…GAWD, all the white dresses last night! I will never understand how so many of North America’s most beautiful women could manage to look so boring.
The Meh: Kate Mara, Jessica Pare, Claire Danes
Ok, so The Meh dresses were actually pretty good. I liked Mara’s J.Mendel gown, liked her hair, but was it amazing? It was good, yes…but not great. Same thing with Jessica Pare in a lovely aquamarine Oscar de la Renta, which looks a bit odd in the boobage area, even though the colour looks so good on her. Claire Danes’ Armani Privé was also great in theory…it’s actually growing on me as I type this, but I still don’t love it. It sags at the front, and again with the non-colour! Perhaps it’s not fair, but I expect more from Danes. She’s not Carrie Underwood, you know?
The Blah and The Bad after the jump!
Toronto International Film Festival is a tricky time for those who cover the festivities. On the one hand it’s incredibly thrilling to have so many talented people descend upon our hometown, but on the other…running around from film to film, from one interview to another, having to submit articles, and then having the energy to attend late-night parties is not for the faint of heart. But then again…some people would kill for the opportunity to experience it all. So instead of complaining, both media and industry types buck up and survive it all. What definitely helps year after year are the amazing TIFF Gifting Lounges, which offer both celebs and industry insiders a chance to pop in for much-needed hair and make-up touch-ups, mini manis, mini massages, delectable bites and of course, freebies!
Each year, it seems like more and more lounges pop up in Toronto, so even hopping from one to another in an attempt to cover them all may seem like a gruelling task all on its own…but hey, someone’s gotta do it! Below are the highlights from the lounges I got to visit during this year’s TIFF!
1. Esther Garnick PR’s Essentials Lounge
Essentials Lounge is a much-needed media haven year after year. Its sole existence is to arm the press with the essentials necessary to “survive” TIFF and “recover” once the festival is over. At this year’s lounge, we were gifted with face-savers like Elizabeth Grant’s Essence of Torricelumn treatment to repair and renew tired skin, and Collagen Re-Inforce Rejuvenating Gel Eye Pads to practically erase any evidence of sleepless nights and fatigue. Both worked their magic on my skin all week long! Magic, I’m telling you.
Our amazing Essentials gift bags also contained hair products from Aveda (smells so good!), makeup from Hard Candy Cosmetics (fun colours to play with), Calvin Klein underwear, Centrum Vitamins (TIFF flu is a thing, people!), Ethical Bean Coffee (for that extra boost of energy), Nike+ Fuelband (to count how many calories one can burn running from one premiere to another), HP Slate 7 tablet (because it’s much easier to carry than a laptop, and just as useful for blogging on the go), and lots more. Needless to say, with thoughtful gift bag contents that are actually helpful during TIFF, Essentials Lounge was a lifesaver for many bloggers and media types covering the festival this year.
2. Variety Studio
While Variety Studio, hosted by Holt Renfrew and sponsored by brands like MoroccanOil and British Airways isn’t a gifting lounge per se, it was definitely a place to be during the festival. Where else could you watch Susan Sarandon get an intense MoroccanOil hand massage (smells and feels amazing) while holding her dog Penny in her lap, Michael Fassbender (whom I actually missed AGAIN!) getting his flirt on, Jude Law eating brownies on the couch, Matthew McConaughey storming into the room and greeting everyone in his thick Texan drawl, Abigail Breslin talking about her “guy” and looking all grown up while also enjoying a MoroccanOil treatment…I mean, the room was swimming with celebs for days, and I was super lucky to have been able to get a glimpse at what goes on behind the scenes. Plus, Jared Leto smiled at me and I chatted with Demian Bichir, so there’s that.
More after the jump!
You might already know that ck one has been around for YEARS now, but…this year, the company’s best-seller is evolving. ck one is now ONE brand for a few different products – fragrance, underwear, and clothing. Talk about multitasking! And to drive the point home, they’ve launched a brand new ad campaign, featuring many of the world’s top models, and shot by Steven Meisel (the original ck one photographer). In addition, the ck one website features interactive model confessions (answering questions like “What’s the best way to get over a broken heart?), and if you’re brave enough you can even upload your own!
If you haven’t tried ck one for yourself, there’s a great promo at The Bay right now – if you sign up for their Beauty Newsletter, you get a sample of ck one free! Easy as that. I, myself, haven’t really tried ck one in the past, mainly because I’ve always thought of it as a men’s fragrance…and boy, was I surprised when I actually got a chance to try it! I’m so obsessed with it, that parting with my bag of samples proved to be an exercise in self-control.
ck one is a perfect unisex daytime fragrance – it’s fresh, not at all overpowering, with subtle citrusy notes. Go ahead and give it a try, it might just be THE ONE fragrance for you.
