I was so excited to watch the Oscars tonight, but both the outfits and the show itself felt kind of lackluster, non? I don’t really know what I was expecting, but none of it lived up to my high expectations. There were a few gowns and suits that looked pretty good, and I did stay up late watching this thing, so here are my personal faves.
Saoirse Ronan’s Calvin Klein felt vaguely Paltrow-ish, but in a good way. She looked fresh in those matching pink pumps and minimalist styling, and I loved the back of that gown. Her Lady Bird co-star, and my personal Best Leading Actor winner Timothee Chalamet looked fly af in that white-on-cream Berluti suit paired with the coolest boots…I want all of this for myself!
Nicole Kidman’s blue dress isn’t my personal cup of tea, but she did look amazing in it, and it’s interesting to look at. I’ll take her gown over any of the other pretty nude frocks, thankyouverymuch. Lakeith Stanfield’s blue suit fit him so perfectly, I wondered whether he was sewn into it. Either way, I love it.
More after the jump!
Greta Gerwig’s marigold dress and red lip felt somewhat similar to that iconic Michelle Williams look, but maybe not quite as good. I still love it on her, and the pop of yellow on the red carpet amid the sea of white gowns felt refreshing. On the other hand, Tom Holland didn’t wear any colour, but his Hermes double-breasted suit looked so good, he still managed to stand out.
Gal Gadot doesn’t need much…she’s so stunning naturally, but she looked like she was having a blast in her fringed Givenchy gown, and that made her look even more beautiful to me. She was paired up with Armie Hammer at the Oscars, who also looked pretty stylish in a red velvet Giorgio Armani suit.
Margot Robbie didn’t win the Oscar this year, but she did get to wear a CHANEL Haute Couture gown, so she’s still a winner in my books. The gown isn’t my fave CHANEL gown ever, but it was certainly one of my faves of the night. Last, but not least, the Vionnet gown that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (ahem, hi, Fleabag!) could be slightly too understated for the Oscars, but as someone who’s obsessed with polka dots lately, this felt unexpected and lovely, and here it is.
My Worst Dressed? Emma Stone in a meh sateen suit perfect for that office Christmas party, or maybe a church outing with your boyfriend’s family, but certainly not the Oscars…Emma Stone, who has access to more designers than most actresses, chose this blah suit to wear to Hollywood’s biggest award show, and I’m baffled.
So tell me, which gowns made your Best Dressed list this year? Share in the comments.
