As someone who loves a good reason to dress up, I can’t wait to attend this year’s Queen’s Plate in Toronto. The Queen’s Plate is Canada’s oldest thoroughbred horse race as well as the oldest continuously run race in North America. This year’s race is the 156th in Queen’s Plate history, and it promises to be an uber-glam day full of fancy fascinators, high-fashion, and beautiful horses. I’ve never attended one, but I’m super excited to take part in this elegant and time-honoured tradition, one that actual Kings and Queens have enjoyed over the years.
If you ask me, there aren’t enough occasions that call for a fancy hat (or fascinator), and it’s a shame! I still don’t have the perfect headpiece to wear to the July 5th event, but with David Dunkley as the official Queen’s Plate milliner, I am sure there are going to be some really cool options to choose from. I plan on channeling my inner ADR and rocking something grand on my head – the rest of the outfit will fall into place, I’m sure.
With grandstand tickets over 50% sold out, I highly recommend picking up yours ASAP. It’s going to be the party of the summer and Style Blog will be there to snap photos of the most stylish Queen’s Plate looks to be featured right here. And that’s not all!

If you find yourself at the Woodbine Racetrack this summer, make sure to take a racetrack selfie and tweet the photo using hashtag #OffToTheRaces to be entered to win $1000 gift card! How easy is that?! Winner will be chosen at the end of the race season.
Finally, if you are stumped about what to wear to the Queen’s Plate, I put together a few of my faves that you can shop online, or simply use as inspiration for the big day. A couple of rules of thumb: DO wear an outrageous hat, DON’T channel your inner flower child. Leave those floral crowns and headchains for Coachella, and opt for a glam headpiece instead.
Hope to see you at the Queen’s Plate on July 5th!
