Here in Canada, we’ve been royally spoiled this summer – endless summer days, warm patio nights, trips to the lake, and finally some sort of resemblance of a tan! I don’t think we’ve ever had a summer this amazing! But as they say, eventually all good things come to an end. And here we are, going into another fall season, pretty hopeless after completely blocking out what it feels like to walk through slush and hurricane-like freezing winds (or is it just me?).
So in order to get excited about the inevitable chill, I thought I’d share some of my Fall 2010 Essentials with all of you (if you want to see my Fall 2009 essentials, click here). Read about them after the jump!
1. Camel Coat
Along with shearling coats (as seen on Burberry Fall 2010 runway), camel is one of the must-haves this year. But unlike other trends, camel has always been a classic and a staple in many wardrobes, this year, I’ll be investing in one as well. Definitely not as fab as the McQueen coat above, but perhaps something from Banana Republic or MaxMara (on sale) would work just as well (also, Jeanne Beker’s new line EDIT at The Bay has a great camel cape, which is almost sold out, so make sure to get yours before they are all gone).
2. Black Denim
I don’t really know how many pairs of blue jeans I own, but this season, I am craving something darker. I’ve been wearing black jeggings from The Gap for about a month now and I am seriously in love. They are simple, comfy, fit great, and go with just about anything – enough said.
3. Velvet Shoes
Ok, so unlike the first two, velvet shoes are neither a classic nor a staple, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t be essential. Velvet was seen all over Fall 2010 runways, and while I wouldn’t dare wear head-to-toe velvet, a pair of shoes is a nice way of incorporating this trend into my wardrobe. Oh, and I guess it helps that I just snagged a pair from Miu Miu, right?
4. Leopard Print
Bad news for le boyfriend – leopard print is here to stay (at least another season), and I’ve already invested in a couple of pieces, like a Nine West pony hair belt and Via Spiga pumps from The Bay, and a Zara coat. I do promise, however, not to wear all three at the same time.
5. Earthy Nail Polish
Summer is all about neons and bright colors, while fall is more subdued. This season, I am in love with Chanel’s new line of khaki nail polishes. I think my fave is Khaki Vert, but all three are pretty amazing!
6. Beige Sweater
I really enjoyed wearing neutrals during the spring/summer months, and there’s no reason to stop now. A cozy beige sweater would be a nice addition to a pair of jeans, and it’s always comfy enough to lounge around the house in. One of my favorites this season is from Jacob – a little loose, a little see-through, and a whole-lot perfect.
7. Small Bag
Structured, lady-like bags are all the rage lately, so if you can afford one from YSL, Hermes, or Celine, you surely are one lucky gal. As for me, I am still weighing the pros/cons of such a purchase, though I can’t deny how chic it would look hanging off my shoulder.
8. Leather Shorts
Surely, you’ve seen me go gaga for leather shorts already, but now that I have a pair from Danier, I cannot wait to wear them with tights, when it gets colder…and speaking of tights…
9. Tights
No fall shopping list is ever complete without tights. As a dress-girl, tights are one of the most important staples in my closet, and I love seeing new styles in stores. This season, I am craving some Missoni ones, but in lieu of those beauties, I might settle for the tried and true H&M ones – affordable and cute, just the way I like them!
10. Army Boots
Every year, I tell myself that I will finally buy a pair of sensible boots. Boots with rubber soles, in which I won’t slip and slide, boots with a sturdy heel or no heel at all, comfy and practical. And with abundance of comfy-looking army boots out there this season, I think I’ll finally get a pair. My favorites so far are from Aldo, but I’ve also seen some nice ones at Browns.
Whew, this was a long one! So now it’s your turn! What are your fall essentials this year? Let me know in the comments!
