No, I’m not planning to crash someone’s wedding, although that’s on my list of “before 30” to-dos. The wedding I’m planning to attend this Saturday is of two people that I had never met (friends of the b/f), hence the “strangers” bit. And since I’m not quite sure how dressy the event will be, I’m thinking something classic and safe. I don’t want to stand out, nor look overly sexy. The plan is to wear a black lace overlay tube dress with beige/nude lining underneath. My inspiration for the outfit will be Erin Wasson at Teen Vogue event earlier in the year (minus the showing panties), and A/W 2009 Balmain/Dior runway shows.
I would never dare wear a dress that Erin wore the way she wore it, as I’ll probably be chased out of the church with torches. But the way she put the see through lace dress and rugged-looking boots together…me loves it! As for Balmain, I adore the sequins and lace together! But I’m worried that it will look too party-girl, and not very wedding appropriate.
Speaking of Balmain and Dior, the dress I’ll be wearing is from Forever21. I figured it doesn’t make sense spending a fortune on a dress for a wedding of two people I don’t even know…yet. I’ll be doing some minor alterations to this dress, but other than that, this is it.
And as any stylista knows, accessories are key! So far, I’m thinking either sparkly chandelier earrings, or sparkly diamond studs will do, along with maybe a watch or a bracelet. Boring, I know…but I think the dress itself has got enough adornment, adding more will make me look cluttered and overly accessorized. But then again, Erin piled on a ton of bracelets and it looks amazing! Kinda makes you question the whole “less is more” shtick.
As for the most important part of my outfit – the shoes – I am still on the fence. Should I do funky? Cage sandals or ankle boots. Or classic? Black pointy or peep toe pumps? And all of this agonizing for a wedding of strangers…Imagine the insanity of when it’s actually time to pick out the outfit I’m going to wear to Jen’s wedding in January??? Ahh, decisions. And all men have to do is put on a clean pair of underwear, a nice button up, a well-tailored suit, and the only dressy pair of shoes they’ve got. Done and done.
Anyihatemennotreallynoireallydo, I’ll fill you, guys in on the final outfit sometime after Saturday! Let me know if you have any suggestions!
