What I Wore: So Fresh

what-i-wore-joe-fresh

Picked up this awesome printed shirt from Joe Fresh for…wait for it…a measly $19! And I love it so much. My loot that day also included a pair of cropped skinny jeans, a sweater, and a pair of flared jeans…along with the pants I’m wearing in the photo. I think I might have another obsession on my hands.

Funny thing is…I was so sure that le bf was going to HATE this shirt…but all he said was “I think I’m used to your choices by now”. Looks like I’m slowly, but surely pushing his fashion boundaries. Next step – print on print…I’ll keep you posted on his reaction.

What I Wore: Holts Muse

holts muse

When I got an email from Holt Renfrew, asking me to participate in a Blogger Style Challenge for Holts Muse, I was ecstatic! Getting to roam the store, pick out anything and everything I liked, to put together 3 outfits – sounds like a dream, right? Well, it certainly was a lot of fun. Gracie, Elizabeth, and yours truly were each given a fun spring piece to style three different ways, and were then photographed by the amazing Adam Moco. Tough job, but someone had to do it.

My spring item was a sporty yellow mini from DVF. For my first outfit, I paired it with a kick-ass Balenciaga leather vest, a lovely Joie striped tee, and a red Balenciaga bag to complete the look. I also wore my own H&M tights, and Stuart Weitzman booties.

For my second outfit, I mixed prints by wearing a lovely DVF cardi over the versatile Equipment blouse, and finished off the look with an adorable neon pink DVF clutch. A little color to brighten up the day. I also wore the Loeffler Randall Natane lace-up stilettos…aka my wedding shoes. You like?

What I Wore: Who Wears the Pants

striped jacket skinny pants

While standing in front of my closet, pondering what to wear to the office, I realized that I have a lot of cropped skinny work pants. As in…A LOT. In the summer, I am all about dresses…office dresses, flirty dresses, weekend dresses, summer dresses…you get the point. But in the winter – it’s all about pants. Because…duh, it’s cold outside!

H&M skinny pants fit me the best, but Zara trousers aren’t that bad either (though I always have to alter the length). I’ve tried wide-leg, bootcut, and other types of work pants, but skinny cropped ones are always my go-to. Hopefully, I’ll get to take more photos…and show off the rest of my budding “collection” soon.

I Wore: Jacket, Shoes – Zara; Shirt – Gap; Pants – H&M; Sunglasses – Elizabeth & James (Shopbop); Bag – Chanel; Necklace – Forever21; Brooch – Material Girl (The Bay)

Stylish Staples: White Button-Up

Remember that scene from Pulp Fiction? The one with Uma’s character at a diner? Remember what she was wearing? Yup…a white button-up. Back then, I was in love with her red lips, blunt bangs, and her (character’s) style. All because of a white shirt. Fast-forward a few years later to that episode of Sex and the City, in which Carrie goes home in a borrowed (from Big) white button-up worn as a dress. Who can forget that?

Truth is, most of you probably own a button-up or two, but how do you wear it? Working downtown, I see it all the time: white shirt + work pants = sensible and boring. But there’s a reason a white button-up is such a staple…all together now…it goes with (nearly) everything.

Next time you grab the boring grey slacks in the morning, choose something with a little more pop, like Anh’s gorgeous floral skirt – both appropriate for the office, and not at all snooze-worthy. For date nights, pair your white shirt with a punchy maxi skirt, or wear it knotty over a colorful maxi dress. And yes, I do realize that Emily’s shirt isn’t exactly a button-up, but isn’t that a perfect date-night look? Chic, sexy, and elegant, all at the same time. I’ll definitely be “borrowing” this one.

Last, but not least, you can always dress down your button-up. Wear it with cut-off denim shorts or skinny jeans for an easy, all-American look.

How do you wear your white button-up? Is it one of your stylish staples? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: Flare Magazine Blogger Style Spring Shoes

Flare Magazine Spring Shoe Feature

Exciting news, lovelies! Yours truly, along with a bunch of amazing Canadian bloggers was featured in Flare Magazine’s Blogger Style Spring Shoe post! After being asked to rock my fave pair of spring kicks for the feature, I needed less than a second to decide which pair to actually wear…and if you’ve been reading long enough, you already know the answer to my non-dilemma – my dearest Charlotte Olympia Kitty flats!

After months of lusting after these adorable flats, I bit the bullet and picked them up at The Room at The Bay, and have been dying to wear them ever since. As you can see, my spring shoot, included piles of snow behind me, so in reality I still have not worn these kitties out. But soon enough, I will be wearing them all over town…all the time. Le bf still looks on in disbelief, unsure whether to call me a crazy cat lady, or just crazy. But what does he know?

So what about you? Do you have a fave spring shoe that you simply cannot wait to bust out of your shoe closet? If so, do tell!

Stylish Staples: Striped Top

Welcome to our new segment – Stylish Staples! After discovering that I only wear like 20% of my wardrobe ALL.THE.TIME., I’ve decided to see what makes those items such staples. And well, unsurprisingly, I wear them so often, because they are stylish, and easy to wear with other items in my closet.

Each week, I’ll share one Stylish Staple of mine, showcase how other stylish bloggers wear those staples in their everyday lives, and perhaps help you enhance your wardrobe along the way. If you have staple suggestions, or would like to be featured, please shoot me an email.

This week’s staple is (perhaps predictably) a striped top. I own dozens of striped tops, mostly in a classic Breton stripe, and literally wear them at least once a week. Striped tops can be worn with almost anything to (almost) any occasion. A simple striped top adds some flare to a basic outfit, and amps up your chicness quotient.

Wear your striped top to the office like Kristy, by pairing it with a pencil skirt, some grown-up pumps, and a trench coat. Rock it on the weekend, a la Liz, by doing your best Audrey Hepburn impression in a pair of cropped trousers, and some lovely flats. Or show off your sexy side like Sharon, by pairing your demure stripes with a killer necklace, and some short shorts. Just like a Little Black Dress is a must-have for every woman out there, a striped top should be too!

Are you a lover of stripes? How do you wear them? Share in the comments.

Nelia’s top – H&M; Kristy’s top – H&M; Liz’s top – Club Monaco; Sharon’s top – Zara

What I Wore: Back to Basics

This past weekend I had to go in to the office and work, which naturally translated into comfy outfits with little to no thought involved. Sorry if this is kinda boring, but to me, a striped tee paired with denim is always a “do”…and an easy one at that. Which is why all of my striped tees are now looking a little mangy and tired for my liking. Time for a new batch, I say.

Apart from my stripe-obsession, there are a few other pieces that I always seem to be wearing, which is also why I will be doing a new segment on Style Blog – called Stylish Staples, starting next week. This segment will showcase some of my most beloved wardrobe essentials, and how I (and my fave bloggers) wear those pieces. For now, I’d like to ask you, my lovelies, what are your fave Stylish Staples? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Back to Black

As much as I try to add color to my winter outfits, black is still the easiest to wear/match/throw on quickly. After changing a million times last Saturday, I finally settled on warm tights, breezy see-through skirt, and a few layers underneath my new Zara peacoat (on major sale right now!). As a result, people passing me by seemed incredibly confused. Is that a see-through skirt in the winter? Yes. Is she wearing tights under there? Heck, yes…I am not crazy. Is she a nun? Err…not quite.

All the looks aside, I kinda had a lot of fun wearing something other than pants/jeans/leggings in the winter. It was probably the riskiest fashion risk I’ve taken in a while…and it felt pretty good.

Do you wear your summer clothes in the winter? Share your tips in the comments.

What I Wore: Mad Men

I was going to call this post “Mad Women”, but then you might think that I’m mad, and I’m really not…so “Mad Men” it is. Because if this high-waisted pencil skirt doesn’t scream Joan, then I don’t know what does. Ok, I do know - big tatas…but since I’m lacking in that department, high-waisted skirt it is.

I’m also wearing my beloved belt from the OBJECT by George Antonopoulos for Danier collection (say that 10 times!), which literally goes with everything, and garners compliments every time I put it on. And that’s awesome. Can’t wait ’til the Spring 2012 collection hits the stores! Seriously, can’t wait!

I Wore: Top – Forever21; Skirt, Tights – H&M; Shoes – Nine West; Belt – OBJECT by George Antonopoulos for Danier; Bag – Prada; Ring – YSL

Holidays 2011: Disco New Year

So I’ve (barely) survived Christmas. After 5 days in bed (and on the couch) with a terrible cold/flu thing, watching my new Ally McBeal DVDs, I am still congested, and dizzy from the meds, but fingers crossed, I’ll be alright for New Years. This year I’ll be attending a 70′s themed New Year’s Eve bash, and this is what I would like to wear. A little bit of sparkle mixed in with a little bit of velvet will hopefully make for a comfy, yet fun combo. Here’s hoping I don’t catch another killer cold.

Are you going out to celebrate New Year’s Eve? What will you be wearing? Share in the comments.

1. Ball Clutch – Zara

2. Star Bangle – Tamara’s

3. Lightning Bolt Brooch – ASOS

4. Disco Ball Earrings – Topshop

5. Glitter Platforms – Aldo

6. Velvet Dress – Topshop

What I Wore: Bundled Up

Most winter days, I have to fight with my own body in order to get dressed…I just never seem to be up to the dask of wearing actual clothes when it’s cold outside. All I want to do is stay under my duvet, wearing the comfiest of pjs, and if it was socially acceptable, I would probably wear my duvet outside of the house 5 days out of 7…just like this fancy lady.

Well, this Old Navy sweater is the closest I will ever get to wearing a duvet outside of the house. It is the coziest thing ever, and I simply love being wrapped in it…snug and comfy without venturing into the precarious Snuggie/Snuggle territory. Pretty cute, right?

So what about you? How do you deal with clothing anxiety in the winter? Or am I the only one suffering from it? Let me know in the comments.

I Wore: Wrap Sweater – Old Navy; Jeans – 7 For All Mankind (c/o SeCe Apparel); Boots – Mel by Melissa; Gloves – Danier Leather; Hat – H&M; Bag – Prada

What I Wore: Lucky, Lucky, You’re So Lucky

Last month, I received this super adorbs tee from Lucky 7 - and immediately wished it was Valentine’s Day…because seriously how appropriate would it be?! Well, Valentine’s Day or not, I ended up wearing it to dinner with le boyfriend at home, because sometimes it’s nice to wear something other than grandma pjs to dinner. And sometimes it’s even nicer to wear a sequined heart on your chest, simply ’cause it’s cute, and you love your man…until SIKE - he finds out that the tee actually says LOVE STINKS (it’s a perfume bottle, get it?)! I don’t think I’ll ever be too old for ironic t-shirts…especially as cute as this one.

Also, see if you can spot the new letter ornaments I picked up at Anthropologie for our first Christmas tree together. They were handmade in Haiti, with each ornament sold, supporting local artisans, as well as local economy. These would make lovely stocking stuffers, if you’re still looking for one or two.

I Wore: Tee – c/o Lucky 7; Skirt – c/o Banana Republic; Necklace – Forever21; Shoes – D&G; Bracelet – Kate Spade

What I Wore: Tweed and Snakeskin

Finally got to take a photo of my new obsession – no, not the Joe Fresh snakeskin shirt (even though I do looove it). My new obsession is this simple, classic, and (me thinks) flattering tweed skirt from JACOB. It fits like a dream, looks great at the office, but doesn’t make me feel like I should be picking up my kids from soccer practice. You know what I mean? It’s still youthful, and work-appropriate…and I oh-so-love it!

Speaking of JACOB! In case you didn’t know, the store is having a Christmas Stocking Promotion! There are $290,000 in instant prizes (stuff like a wardrobe full of JACOB clothes, valued at $10,000!)  to be won at check-out at any store – all you have to do is print out a Christmas stocking from their site.

And if that wasn’t enough of an incentive, for each stocking brought in store, JACOB will donate $1 to Goodwill and Renaissance, non-profit organizations whose mission is to facilitate the social and occupational reintegration of women experiencing difficulties. For an additional chance to win a $10,000 wardrobe, all you have to do is share it with some friends. Sharing is caring, right? You can enter here: http://surprisesjacob.ca. And if you end up winning, don’t forget to share the love!

I Wore: Shirt – Joe Fresh; Skirt – Jacob; Necklace – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Bag – Prada
