What They Wore: Celeb Looks from Met Gala 2013

met-gala-2013-punk-katy-perry-dolce-gabbana

This year’s Met Gala theme was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture”, and since so many of the celebs in attendance nailed it, I couldn’t simply post my fave looks and be done with it. This time, I chose to bring you not only my fave looks, but also the runners-up, and the headscratchers all in one post.

Let’s start with my faves. I loved the ornate Dolce and Gabbana dress on Katy Perry, the grand headpiece on SJP, the elegant Margiela on Gwen Stefani, the stunning, but decidedly NOT punk Givenchy gown on Rooney Mara, and an orange moomoo-like goodness on Ashley Olsen. None of those looks screamed punk to me, but I found these dresses to be interesting, fashion-forward, and gorgeous too. Well, SJP’s panty-flashing Giles gown wasn’t exactly my type, but if anyone could’ve pulled it off it’s her.

Apart from my top 5, I enjoyed so many other looks! From Giovanna Battaglia gilded head-to-toe goodness, to Solange Knowles looking lovely in a Kenzo gown that was perhaps a tad too casual for the Met, but beautiful nonetheless, to Emma Watson in a very sexy Prabal Gurung…there was no shortage of fashion porn at this year’s gala. Some celebs decided to don simple LBDs to the event, which in my opinion was a total waste (I’m looking at you, Michelle Williams), but others made up for it with punk hair (Miley Cyrus), and studs galore (looking gorgeous, Sienna Miller!).

All in all, I loved this year’s fashion offerings. I hate wading through a million photos of boring outfits, and this year there weren’t too many.

So now it’s your turn! Which celebs brought their A-game to the 2013 Costume Institute Gala, and which crashed and burned? Share your opinions in the comments!

What I Wore: Meeting Liz Hurley

topshop-squirrel-dress

Remember that time Elizabeth Hurley came to The Room at The Bay? Well, this is what I wore to that event.

So, what does one wear to meet a gorgeous model/actress? Squirrels, apparently. Squirrels and a huge smile on my face, despite feeling like a hobo next to her. And though it’s no haute couture, I’m still seriously obsessed with this Topshop dress. Playful and girlie, it was love at first sight, and an adorable addition to my wardrobe. That, and Elizabeth Hurley stood next to it…no biggie.

Get your wallets at the ready, ladies (and gentlemen)! It’s official – the highly-anticipated Mary Katrantzou for Topshop collection WILL be available at The Bay Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto on March 6th! With this week’s Jason Wu for Target pop-up shop, and Marni at H launching on March 8th…I think I’m not the only one who will be eating ramen noodles for the rest of March…or am I?

Will you be lining up? Are you taking a week off as part of your shopping strategy? Let me know in the comments!

Mary Katrantzou for Topshop Lookbook!

Today was supposed to be a lazy sick day in bed for me…I wasn’t going to blog, go online, or do anything at all…except for sleeping, and watching TV, of course. Well…I broke my “go online” rule…and found out that Mary Katrantzou for Topshop collection lookbook is now available! And, of course, who could resist?

Not sure about you, but I have serious envy right now for all those Brits that will be able to shop this collab. At this point, I doubt we’ll be seeing these pieces at Topshop stores in Canada, but one can always dream, right? Love all the floral pieces, love the styling, and love the price points (GBP 40 to GBP 350). Now the question is…how inflated those prices will be on eBay? Another prediction – VERY inflated. Le sigh.

What do you think of this collaboration? Are you going to line up on February 17th, when the collection finally hits the stores? If you are…pick me up a piece or 10, will you?

UPDATE: Well, guess what?! The Mary Katrantzou for Topshop collection WILL be available at the Yorkdale Topshop location (at The Bay) sometime at the beginning of March! Stay tuned for more details. Dreams do come true!!!

Holidays 2011: Beauty Essentials

Some of my fave beauty products that will keep anyone cheerful and beautiful this holiday season…from head to toe!

1. Greg May Peppermint Cream Conditioner ($21.99)

Every time I use this product, I feel a happy jolt of energy that only the smell of fresh peppermint could provide…Its decidedly Christmassy scent makes me want to smell my own hair all day long (it’s not weird, I swear!), while the botanical extracts and proteins moisturize, condition and add body to my hair, leaving it soft and shiny. This one’s a keeper, ladies and gents!

2. Topshop Metallic Nail Polish ($11)

It’s pretty much a given nowadays that New Year’s eve requires the highest wattage of sparkle and shine. And with a plentiful selection of glam and glittery polish over at Topshop, you are sure to walk away beaming! Your fingers and toes have never looked so pretty!

3. Nip + Fab Eye Fix ($20)

Long nights of partying, lack of sleep, and a little too much eggnog can result in some nasty under-eye issues. Nip those circles in the bud by using this fab duo of eye cream and concealer. Works like a charm!

4. Mary Kay Really Red Lipstick ($16.50)

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been in dire need of a good red lipstick, so when I got this Really Red one from Mary Kay, I jumped for joy! The color is simply perfect, the texture is creamy, and it actually stays put. Will surely come in handy for that New Year’s Eve kiss.

5. Benefit Cosmetics Dallas Powder ($28)

Here in Ontario, the sun don’t shine from September to…well…June. So what’s a girl to do to keep herself from overdosing on self-tanner? Go to Dallas! Ok, not literally. But seriously, Benefit’s Dallas Powder is a personal favorite and an instant glowifier (yes, I made that one up). Shimmery and light, it won’t make your face look cakey and overdone…unless that’s the look you’re going for, in which case all you have to do is layer it until you achieve the desired…errr…result. See? Easy, peasy, beautiful!

Holidays 2011: Disco New Year

So I’ve (barely) survived Christmas. After 5 days in bed (and on the couch) with a terrible cold/flu thing, watching my new Ally McBeal DVDs, I am still congested, and dizzy from the meds, but fingers crossed, I’ll be alright for New Years. This year I’ll be attending a 70′s themed New Year’s Eve bash, and this is what I would like to wear. A little bit of sparkle mixed in with a little bit of velvet will hopefully make for a comfy, yet fun combo. Here’s hoping I don’t catch another killer cold.

Are you going out to celebrate New Year’s Eve? What will you be wearing? Share in the comments.

1. Ball Clutch – Zara

2. Star Bangle – Tamara’s

3. Lightning Bolt Brooch – ASOS

4. Disco Ball Earrings – Topshop

5. Glitter Platforms – Aldo

6. Velvet Dress – Topshop

Mary Katrantzou for Topshop!

News broke this morning that Topshop (that we finally have in Canada – hooray!) will be collaborating with London-based designer Mary Katrantzou! Katrantzou’s artfully printed frocks have first caught my attention at The Room, where I was too terrified to even glance at price tags on her beautiful pieces of art that we call dresses. And we all know that…if you’re too scared to look, sadly, you can’t afford it. So you can imagine how happy I was that after all the drooling and wishing for a chance to own a piece by Katrantzou, my dreams are (sort of) coming true!

The collection, consisting of 14(!!!) pieces is slated to drop next February, according to the Style Bubble. And though you certainly won’t be paying anywhere near regular prices for this Topshop collab, it will still cost you a pretty penny, with this dress going for GBP 350. But no matter, the die-hard Katrantzou fans will be delighted at this lovely collab, and judging from the preview pics, we’ll be getting a bang for our bucks – the preview dress looks stunning, even if it’s a little less dramatic than her original designs. But for a fraction of the price, who’s complaining?

This is definitely one of the best fast-fashion collabs ever…certainly in the same league as Lanvin for H&M. Are you as excited as I am? Share in the comments, lovelies!

Wish You Were at Topshop at The Bay

Photostar photobooth photos from tonight’s event. If you can’t tell from the pics – I had the best time ever! Thanks, The Bay and Topshop Canada for a kickass night!

Also, we make the worst gangstas ever! That’s all.

What I Wore: SMUT Soiree

Here’s what I wore to Lainey Gossip’s SMUT on Monday! My brand new Topshop skirt in one of my fave colors ever – mustard, a cheapie printed shirt via Forever21, some fun beaded bracelets from H&M, and of course, my favorite Pierre Hardy heels from The Room. I am in serious love with the skirt, and have a feeling that I’ll be wearing it all summer long. Oh yes, I will.

Having said that, as I mentioned, the four most stylish gossipettes are competing to win the big $2K prize from The Bay, and if you have a few minutes, you should totally vote for your favorite! One of the candidates is already featured on Style Blog, and she definitely has my vote. Who will you be voting for?

I Wore: Skirt – Topshop (The Bay); Top – Forever21; Necklace – Kate Spade; Shoes – Pierre Hardy (The Room); Bracelets – H&M, The Bay, BCBG; Rings – H&M, Forever21, YSL; Belt – Zara; Backpack – Chanel

What I Wore: Panthers, and Rabbits, and Planking, Oh My!

This is what my cat looks like when he gets mad at me, fangs exposed, mouth snarling, eyes wide open…bracing to attack. Scary, no? It’s ok though, because I can stand up for myself. This (below) is my hissing face. This way Pepper (my cat) knows not to mess with me.

Anyway, I wore this to last weekend’s 1000 Tastes of Toronto, which was disappointing to say the least (more like 10 Tastes of Toronto). Thank goodness, le boyfriend and I bought only 2 tickets each (and ended up using only 3 out of 4). Post 1000 Tastes, the rest of the afternoon was spent chasing fake rabbits, attempting planking on said rabbits (which were extremely hot to the touch), and trying to avoid the MMVAs at all cost. Don’t you just love summer?

I Wore: Top – Topshop (The Bay); Shorts – Banana Republic; Bag – c/o Ecco; Hat, Bracelets, Sunglasses - H&M; Bracelet – BCBG; Shoes – Old Navy
