Wishlist: Hudson’s Bay Company Collection Spring 2013 Items

hbc-signature-the-bay-stripes-collection

Ever since The Bay revamped their Signature Collection a couple of years ago, I’ve been obsessed. The lovely combination of green, red, yellow, blue, and white stripes is a perfect way to add a touch of Canadiana to any outfit (or home), and this spring, the brand has added new pieces to their usual line-up. On my wishlist is a striped Evans Tray ($95) for my coffee table, the striped Isabella Maxi ($85), and the adorable Eggie Egg Cups ($20). Super cute, non?

There’s a ton of new Hudson’s Bay Collection pieces available on The Bay’s website – these are just a taste of what’s out there. So which pieces are your fave? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: Souped Up

Viktor-Rolf-The-Room-Party-Nelia-Belkova

Last week something awesome happened – Viktor & Rolf’s Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren stopped by The Room at The Bay while on a press visit to Toronto…and I got to meet them! Dreams do come true…for real!

The party was incredible! A string quartet played some modern tunes, there was plenty of yummy Perrier-Jouët bubbly to go around, and the crowds were dressed to the nines (The Room parties are always great for people-watching!). Bonnie Brooks was there, as were Stacey Kimmel, Rufus Wainwright, and Jeremy Laing…oh my!

As for my outfit…I decided to go less formal in my fave Club Monaco faux leather skirt, a soup tee under my trusty moto jacket, a pair of my new fave shoes from Aldo x Preen capsule collection, and a sparkly necklace to dress it up. Funny enough, I ran into Anita Clarke at the party, and we were both wearing the same shoes AND the same clutch from ela handbags! Twinsies! Well…except Anita was wearing a gorgeous Roland Mouret, while I was wearing Forever 21. But still…great minds think alike…and also, this totally shows off the versatility of fun accessories, non?

After having a quick moment alone with the belles of the ball (they were super-duper nice, by the way), my friends and I continued to mingle, checking out the new Viktor & Rolf spring collection, and making our dream wishlists, which included the clothes off designers’ backs, because those adorable embroidered jeans they both wore (one with mustaches, and the other with sunglasses) were just too awesome for words. Alas…I never got the courage to ask them about their jeans, so they stayed firmly in my dreams. But hey, Viktor and Rolf…if you see this…I’d love to do a Sisterhood of Travelling Pants thing with you. And though I’m not exactly sure how it works, I think we could start by you sending me your adorable jeans, and me wearing them…Ok? Sounds good to me.

Kleinfeld Bridal Says “Yes” to The Bay in Toronto!

kleinfeld-bridal-toronto-the-bay-queen-street

Hey, Toronto brides-to-be! Do I ever have good news for you! If you’ve always wanted to pay a visit to the famous Kleinfeld Bridal store in New York, but could never make that trip, you are in major luck! You no longer need to cross the border to get a taste of their extensive selection, because Kleinfeld Bridal is going to open their first Canadian flagship location at our very own The Bay on Queen Street in Toronto in 2014! Exciting, right?

And while I am pretty pumped about the news, I still have one more important question – are we going to get a Canadian version of “Say Yes to the Dress”? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Roksanda Ilincic Celebrates Spring 2013 Collection at The Room at The Bay

roksanda-ilincic-the-room-the-bay-14

Last week I had the pleasure of attending yet another fab event at The Room at The Bay. This time, to celebrate the London-based (Serbian-born) designer Roksanda Ilincic and her Spring 2013 collection. I’ve been a fan of Ilincic’s vibrant clothes for a while now – most notably on Ginnifer Goodwin, who really knows how to wear Ilincic’s modern and elegant designs, and from shopping at The Room, where I always pause to drool over a dress or two.

As is usually the case, The Room was packed with Toronto’s most stylish, including The Bay’s CEO Bonnie Brooks clad in Roksanda Ilincic, actress Sarah Gadon and her photographer pal Caitlin Cronenberg. Ilincic herself was lovely and gorgeous to boot. She showed off her Aldo collaboration shoes (hitting the stores soon) and complimented me on my skirt (from her Fall 2012 collection), which I snagged at The Room last season. Good eye! When my friend Kim asked Ilincic whether a diffusion line could be in the works, the designer coyly replied “Maybe”, which sounded a lot like “Yes”. It seems introducing her clothes to a wider/younger audience could be in the pipeline, and I certainly wouldn’t complain if I could afford to add a few more pieces by this talented young designer to my wardrobe.

Roksanda Ilincic Spring 2013 collection is currently available at The Room, so if you have a minute, make sure to stop by and check out these colourful pieces for yourselves. They are guaranteed to make you happy…especially on a wintry first day of spring.

What I Wore: FAJO Magazine’s Love Issue

fajo-magazine-nelia-belkova-2

Last month, Canada’s leading digital fashion magazine FAJO invited me to participate in a fun little photoshoot for their Love Issue, and of course, I couldn’t say no! I got to wear my own clothes, with the only suggestion being that I wear a little bit of red, because…LOVE…duh! And here’s what I came up with.

The first look represents one of my favourite spring trends – black and white stripes. After searching for a pair of Beetlejuice pants for what seemed like forever, I finally stumbled upon these H&M skinnies, and have been happily wearing them since. For an obligatory pop of red, I chose my brand-spanking-new ela editor clutch, which I won (yay!) from Holt Renfrew, and a swipe of red lipstick.

For my second outfit, I wore more stripes, because that’s what I do best. I also threw on my Charlotte Olympia Luna pumps that I scored on MAJAH sale at The Room, a pair of good old boyfriend jeans, and heart sunnies from my wedding. Simple, fun, and oh-so-me!

For more photos from the photoshoot with the lovely Aleyah Solomon, and for my interview with FAJO’s Julia Eskins, please CLICK HERE. Enjoy!

What I Wore: Meeting Liz Hurley

topshop-squirrel-dress

Remember that time Elizabeth Hurley came to The Room at The Bay? Well, this is what I wore to that event.

So, what does one wear to meet a gorgeous model/actress? Squirrels, apparently. Squirrels and a huge smile on my face, despite feeling like a hobo next to her. And though it’s no haute couture, I’m still seriously obsessed with this Topshop dress. Playful and girlie, it was love at first sight, and an adorable addition to my wardrobe. That, and Elizabeth Hurley stood next to it…no biggie.

Shopping: Fall 2012 Essentials

fall-2012-must-haves

Fall is the most dangerous time of the year…for my wallet. What with gorgeous coats, boots, and leather pieces all over the place, I can’t help but drool over so many (too many) things. And while I try to be good most of the time, some things are just necessities. Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.

Above are just a few of those “necessities” of mine. Curious to know what yours are. Share in the comments!

What I Wore: Rachel Roy in Toronto

rachel-roy-dress-toronto

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting the incredibly beautiful and oh-so-lovely designer Rachel Roy, while she made a quick stop to sign autographs at The Bay in Toronto. Wearing on of her RACHEL Rachel Roy dresses, I was instantly smitten with the brainy beauty, but she quickly put me at ease with her sweet and approachable manner. She seemed genuinely interested in finding out what people thought about her line, and seemed relieved that so many of us had only rave reviews to share with her.

Take this dress for example…it’s literally the comfiest, yet most flattering shift dress I own. The fabric looks like tweed, but is super stretchy, and the awesome zipper/pattern details on the side make my silhouette appear slimmer, yet somehow curvier too. This dress (as well as the rest of her Fall 2012 collection) is truly a winner. And to top it off, my friend Sharon also turned up to the event in the same exact dress! In the words of the fab Anna Dello Russo, we “did the right choice”!
