Jason Wu for Target Toronto Pop-up Shop

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that last Thursday, I was one of the lucky few who got to shop the one day pop-up shop of Jason Wu for Target in Toronto. With Jason in attendance, bloggers and media alike attacked the racks, grabbing their favorite pieces and dashing to the fitting rooms. As for me, I was left torn between wanting to buy more than the allowed 3 pieces, and being a good friend and getting the coveted kitty scarves for my friends. The friend thing won out, and I walked away with 3 kitty scarves in my Target tote.

But not before snapping some photos, ogling the handsome Brad Goreski, and checking out everyone’s loot (all proceeds donated to the United Way!) It was the most fun I’ve had shopping in a long while, and judging from the flawless execution of the pop-up shop (it was incredibly well-organized), I cannot to see what else the folks at Target Canada will have in store.

Did you line up for Jason Wu x Target last week? What did you buy? Excited to finally have Target in Canada? Share in the comments.

Don’t Miss This Week: Jason Wu for Target Pop-up Shop

Jason Wu x Target Pop-up Shop
363 King St West, Toronto
Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 (doors open at noon)
Hosted by Target Canada

Speaking of cats! This week, you do NOT want to miss this event…seriously! If you’ve been pining for the cheeky pieces from the mischievous Jason Wu for Target collection, and you live in Toronto…well, next Thursday is your lucky day! Target Canada will be hosting a one-day pop-up shop, with all proceeds donated to the United Way Toronto. Your good deed of the day made super easy.

And that’s not all…Jason Wu himself is supposed to be in attendance! So if you’ve always wanted to congratulate the young designer on all his success, well, now is your chance!

On my personal shopping list: white dress with peekaboo lace, cat-print scarf…and perhaps a cat tee. But don’t call me a crazy cat lady just yet…I might change my mind at the last-minute.

Will you be attending? Which pieces are you dying to get your hands on? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: Tweed and Snakeskin

Finally got to take a photo of my new obsession – no, not the Joe Fresh snakeskin shirt (even though I do looove it). My new obsession is this simple, classic, and (me thinks) flattering tweed skirt from JACOB. It fits like a dream, looks great at the office, but doesn’t make me feel like I should be picking up my kids from soccer practice. You know what I mean? It’s still youthful, and work-appropriate…and I oh-so-love it!

Speaking of JACOB! In case you didn’t know, the store is having a Christmas Stocking Promotion! There are $290,000 in instant prizes (stuff like a wardrobe full of JACOB clothes, valued at $10,000!)  to be won at check-out at any store – all you have to do is print out a Christmas stocking from their site.

And if that wasn’t enough of an incentive, for each stocking brought in store, JACOB will donate $1 to Goodwill and Renaissance, non-profit organizations whose mission is to facilitate the social and occupational reintegration of women experiencing difficulties. For an additional chance to win a $10,000 wardrobe, all you have to do is share it with some friends. Sharing is caring, right? You can enter here: http://surprisesjacob.ca. And if you end up winning, don’t forget to share the love!

I Wore: Shirt – Joe Fresh; Skirt – Jacob; Necklace – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Bag – Prada

What I Wore: Let the Rain Fall Down

You know, funny thing happened as I got older (and presumably, wiser) – I learned that sometimes, it makes sense to dress sensibly. I no longer NEED to wear the highest of heels during the winter months (I’m not in Texas anymore). I have learned (from many mistakes) that leather boots get ruined after just one season of salty slush, while simultaneously failing to provide any kind of warmth – especially, once said salty slush has somehow eaten away at the leather, letting the freezing water sneak its way into my socks. Thanks, but no thanks.

So last winter, I stuck to my Cougar rain boots all winter long. That’s right rubber boots in the winter. It’s true – they aren’t the warmest. But throw in a pair of wool socks, and you’ve got a pair of waterproof winterized boots! This winter, I am planning to wear rain boots a lot, so I figured I should get a dressier pair…and then…

…I saw them. Mel rain boots. Cute as a can be, ankle-length, and comfy to boot! Perfect with dresses, skinny jeans…pretty much anything, really. I don’t ever want to take these off…well, except for when I sleep…maybe.

What about you? What’s your go-to cold weather footwear? Share in the comments.

I Wore: Coat – Old Navy; Leggings – Target; Rain Boots – Mel (Urban Outfitters); Scarf – H&M; Bag – Prada; Sunglasses – Ray Ban

What I Wore: Are We There Yet?

WARNING: Rant ahead

I am getting serious now! Are we there yet? When will winter be gone already? I am so tired…sooo tired of the cold! I just want some warmth on my face, and for my skin to stop being blue! Seriously, my hands look like they belong to a smurf!

I’m also getting super sick of my parka…I’m thinking of organizing a “BURN, WINTER, BURN” event, where we all throw our parkas into the bonfire, dance around it, while laughing maniacally. Any takers? Anyone? So last weekend, instead of donning the usual…I wore the usual with a lighter coat on top! One small step for me, one giant leap closer to spring…or something.

Rant over.

How are you dealing with winter blues, people? Share some get-happy tips soon, or I might just curl up in a ball and cry for the rest of the winter days.

I Wore: Coat – Old Navy (courtesy of Old Navy); Top – Jacob; Shorts – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Ring – YSL; Bag – Prada; Belt – Nine West (The Bay); Scarf – H&M; Earrings – Chanel

What I Wore: Lanvin for H&M

This is me, around 8:30 am on a Saturday (which is unheard of), happy as a hippo to have been able to snatch up the things I wanted from the Lanvin x H&M collection. Got the dresses I loved, the necklace, the totes, and a couple of other things. I was really, really lucky at the Yorkdale location - most things were gone in less than 30 minutes!

Shopping was done in an actual cage! Can you believe it? Cage shopping in 15 minutes: grab, pull, yank, grab, yell…No, it wasn’t too horrible. No one got slapped nor stabbed in Toronto, as opposed to the rumour that 3 people were hurt in a Lanvin dispute in New York. We were all pretty civilized, considering the circumstances. Sales associates were extremely attentive – helping find sizes, boxes, etc…all while being super pleasant…perhaps they felt bad for all the shopaholics in line.

As a reward for our patience, dresses were wrapped in beautiful garment bags, shoe bags were given for shoes, and credit cards were maxed out all around. Seeing my total on the cash register display made me feel slightly faint, but the 30 day return policy calmed my nerves (a bit).

The collab was a mad success, and some were even wondering whether Lanvin would do a second collab with the fast-fashion giant. Only time will tell. For now, I have to make sure that I coordinate my holiday outfits, as to avoid wearing the same things my friends are wearing. Lanvin or not, being dress-twins is so not cool.

PS. If you haven’t gotten a piece of Lanvin x H&M and are still holding out hope for a dress or two, items off the mannequins will be sold today. So make sure to stop by your nearest store.

I Wore: Cardigan – Billabong; Leggings – Target; Tank Top – Forever21; Boots – Zara; Bag – Prada; Belt – Moschino

Halloween 2010: Last-Minute Costumes

Every year, I plan on dressing up for Halloween, and every year I inevitably wait until the week before the party to start putting my costume together. Most times, everything I need…well, almost everything I need, is right inside my closet. This year, I came up with these 5 easy costumes that do not involve much polyester, sluttiness, or money-spending. Shop your own closet for supplies this year, and I bet you, you’ll be surprised at how many costume ideas you’ll be able to come up with!

1. Lady Gaga in Telephone

People have been going gaga for Gaga’s eclectic and sometimes outright batshit crazy stage outfits, which makes them perfect for recreating come Halloween. One of the easiest and cheapest options I could come up with (short of taping a bunch of bottles to a nude dress to make a “bubble bottle dress”) was the “Caution Tape Outfit” from her video Telephone. All you need is some caution tape, safety pins or needles/thread, or possibly scotch tape, and the craziest shoes you can find in your closet.

All I did was wrap the caution tape all over my top/liquid leggings combo, safety pinned it in place (didn’t even have to cut anything), and I was done. If you’re actually serious about recreating the look, you could wrap the tape around your naked/near-naked body, or actually tape that crap to your clothes. Since, I’m neither dedicated nor patient, I wrapped it haphazardly, but perhaps if I actually end up choosing this look, I’ll also attach some tape to the 3D glasses I’m wearing. Cost me all of $2.50 for the tape…everything else was right inside my closet. Done. This look would also work with meat…but it might get smelly by the end of the night.

If you wrap yourself with toilet paper instead, you could look like a pretty hot mummy. Just sayin’.

2. Cousin Itt – The Addams Family

Ever since my mom made fun of my hat/hair/scarf/glasses combo, I’ve been thinking about incorporating said items into a costume, and here’s the final result. To pull off this look you will either need a wig, or if you have long hair, you’ll simply need to flip it in front of your face, put some glasses over it, put on a hat, wear a long-ass dress and something furry/hairy on top. Done. Cost? ZERO dollars…and possibly some bruises and broken bones due to poor visibility. Small price to pay for such an awesome costume! No one will ever accuse you of trying to look slutty this Hallows’ Eve!

3. Wenda - Where’s Waldo?

I am a huge stripes fiend, so this costume is actually came quite naturally. All you need is a red/white striped shirt, a red or white hat with a pom-pom, a blue or denim skirt, some rad (or red) frames, and some red/white striped tights. It also helps to carry a camera, and keep asking people “Where’s Waldo???”. Done! And it cost…all of NOTHING.

I do think that Odlaw’s costume is much more fun that Wenda’s…but finding a yellow/black striped shirt proved a difficult task. If you’re serious about your commitment to portray this baddie, get some yellow duct tape, stick stripes all over a black sweater, put on some black pants and a yellow/black striped hat, round-rim glasses, grow/buy a mustache and you’re done!

4. Dorothy - The Wizard of Oz

This one was a result of my affinity to my Rodarte for Target baby-blue dress. It’s been hanging lifelessly in my closet for over a year now, and I have finally found some use for it! This dress could also be worn as part of Alice in Wonderland costume, but it would probably work best on a blonde.

Back to Dorothy: all you need are some ruby slippers (red heels in this case), a blue dress, pigtails, basket, and someone to play the role of Toto. If I go with this costume, Pepper is getting a dog makeover…or not. Once again, it cost me nothing…

5. Terry Richardson

If you truly want a TERRYfying costume…then look no further than photographer/alleged model abuser Terry Richardson. All you need is a standard hipster uniform of plaid shirt, skinny jeans, Converse sneaks, some Terry-esque shades and a handlebar moustache. Obviously, I wasn’t particularly committed to this look…the glasses are all wrong, and the moustache is nowhere to be seen…but if I actually decided to go as him, all I would need are those two props to complete the look. Extra points for carrying a banana, a camera, and making strangers pose provocatively for ya.

What are you wearing for Halloween this year? I’d love to know!

What I Wore: The Fog

Past weekend, the fog descended upon downtown Toronto, and it felt really weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Toronto so gloomy and dark. Perfect weather for Halloween – just one week too early. Spent the entire weekend hiding from the rain: at Buca (so good…SO SO GOOD!), at the movies (Hereafter), with my nephew (aka the most adorable baby ever), at Wal-Mart (shopping for my Halloween party this week), and at various parking garages (aka perfect photo-op location). Finally dusted off my kicking boots, you might see them more often in the coming weeks.

How was your weekend? Have you made the switch from summer to fall in your closet yet? I’m still dreading it…but I have just started. Happy Monday, lovelies!

What I Wore: Vest – Gap; Dress, Belt – H&M; Leggings – Target; Boots – Aldo; Bag – Prada

Rodarte for Target in Vogue

rodarte target2

So more and more Rodarte for Target photos have been popping up lately, but Vogue and Teen Vogue, understandably, got the first dibs for having the pieces as part of their editorials. Ahh…why don’t we have a Target in Canada? I really love Target, it has the best atmosphere for its type of store and they always have cute housewares stuff, as well as other miscellaneous crap that I always end up buying. Can we start a petition please? Bring Topshop and Target to Canada! Yes! Yes, we can! Anyway, my fave is still the leopard print dress on Dakota Fanning below, but the Vogue-featured pieces are also so very cute! The collection launches very soon (December 20th)! Can’t wait to see the rest!

Rodarte for Target Preview

rodarte-x-target-look-book-01

It’s finally happening! The first look at the Rodarte for Target collection lookbook is here! Hooray! And so far it looks very promising! I love the ribcage print on this mini dress, but wish it wasn’t sequined. Hopefully the collection also has a similar t-shirt dress, which I would love to rock with some tights and boots. Hotness! But since it hasn’t been officially confirmed that the above image is in fact from the collection’s lookbook, we’ll just have to wait for a confirmation* and more photos. Rodarte for Target collection hits stores December 20th, 2009. I am so excited about this one! Are you?

*Update: Seventeen magazine has more photos of the collection here. So it’s confirmed, the dress is a part of the Rodarte for Target collection! Woohoo!

Anna Sui for Target

anna-sui

I am not as excited about the Anna Sui for Target collection as I am about Rodarte’s…But I still think it’s awesome that big designers collaborate with affordable stores (especially Target and H&M), to make fashion more attainable to the masses. I don’t watch Gossip Girl (blasphemy, I know), so I can’t really tell which look corresponds to which character, but it doesn’t really matter, since I love lookbooks mainly for their inspirational value. My favorite looks from this collection are the boho orange-brown ones (above). Time to dust off my old orange H&M dress. Paired with brown fringe boots and a furry vest, it will be hippie heaven!

Anna Sui for Target launches September 13th, and will sell through October 17th. Will you be buying anything from this collection?

Rodarte for Target!!!

rodarte

Mark your calendars, ladies! Kate and Laura Mulleavy had just signed up to design a 55-piece Rodarte line for Target! It’s news like these that make me wish I was back in sunny Houston. Alas, at the absence of Target in Toronto, this shopaholic will have to make a trip to Buffalo, NY on December 20th (Christmas shopping at the last minute, anyone?). Prices will range from $9.99 to $79.99. Eighty bucks for Rodarte? I am there!
