What I Wore: Back to Basics

This past weekend I had to go in to the office and work, which naturally translated into comfy outfits with little to no thought involved. Sorry if this is kinda boring, but to me, a striped tee paired with denim is always a “do”…and an easy one at that. Which is why all of my striped tees are now looking a little mangy and tired for my liking. Time for a new batch, I say.

Apart from my stripe-obsession, there are a few other pieces that I always seem to be wearing, which is also why I will be doing a new segment on Style Blog – called Stylish Staples, starting next week. This segment will showcase some of my most beloved wardrobe essentials, and how I (and my fave bloggers) wear those pieces. For now, I’d like to ask you, my lovelies, what are your fave Stylish Staples? Share in the comments.

I Wore: Peacoat - Zara; Top – H&M; Jeans – 7FAM c/o SeCe Apparel; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Bag – Prada

Wishlist: Proenza Schouler’s Valentine’s Day Collection

Isn’t it just the best when two awesome things combine to create something even better? Like peanut butter and chocolate, or ice-cream and apple pie? Well, the boys men of Proenza Schouler have just released a Valentine’s Day-inspired capsule collection…and it’s glorious! Better than any Reese’s cup you’ve ever tasted.

Gorgeous bags, clutches, and wallets in red leather and chain straps – make my heart explode with WANT. Prices range from $785 for a PS1 wallet on a chain, to a whopping $6,825 for a lizard leather PS11. Pretty pricey, that’s for sure, but still super beautiful.

What do you think of Proenza Schouler’s Valentine’s Day collection? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Tweed and Snakeskin

Finally got to take a photo of my new obsession – no, not the Joe Fresh snakeskin shirt (even though I do looove it). My new obsession is this simple, classic, and (me thinks) flattering tweed skirt from JACOB. It fits like a dream, looks great at the office, but doesn’t make me feel like I should be picking up my kids from soccer practice. You know what I mean? It’s still youthful, and work-appropriate…and I oh-so-love it!

Speaking of JACOB! In case you didn’t know, the store is having a Christmas Stocking Promotion! There are $290,000 in instant prizes (stuff like a wardrobe full of JACOB clothes, valued at $10,000!)  to be won at check-out at any store – all you have to do is print out a Christmas stocking from their site.

And if that wasn’t enough of an incentive, for each stocking brought in store, JACOB will donate $1 to Goodwill and Renaissance, non-profit organizations whose mission is to facilitate the social and occupational reintegration of women experiencing difficulties. For an additional chance to win a $10,000 wardrobe, all you have to do is share it with some friends. Sharing is caring, right? You can enter here: http://surprisesjacob.ca. And if you end up winning, don’t forget to share the love!

I Wore: Shirt – Joe Fresh; Skirt – Jacob; Necklace – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Bag – Prada

What I Wore: Like a Lady

Wore this outfit to Media Profile’s Holiday Party (which was a blast!), and was really happy that I didn’t end up wearing a dress, like I planned. Because even in jeans and sweater – I was freezing! But all the goose bumps aside, I’m seriously loving my new Old Navy sweater – it’s so lady-like and proper, which isn’t exactly me, but as soon as I saw that it came in yellow stripes – I just couldn’t resist. Throw it together with some flared jeans, and the looks becomes less ladylike, and more…me. You like?

I Wore: Cardigan, Jeans – Old Navy; Boots – Proenza Schouler; Necklace – Forever21; Clutch – Prada; Ring – YSL; Bangle, Earrings – Kate Spade

What I Wore: Faking It

Last weekend was brutal for me. I won’t go into details, but I feel exhausted this week, and it’s only TUESDAY! Plus, the rainy/crappy weather certainly isn’t helping.

The only positive of this temperature shift, is that I finally get to wear my beloved faux fur vest! And that’s about it.

Hope your weekend was more fun than mine! What did you do?

I Wore: Shirt – Gap; Fur Vest – Winners; Pleather Pants, Necklace – Forever21; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Clutch – Prada (Holt Renfrew)

What I Wore: Grey, Red, and Sunny

How amazing was the weather this weekend? It’s middle of November, and I didn’t have to wear a coat! It just doesn’t get much better than this…in Toronto.

On top of enjoying the sunshine, I spent some time with my girlfriends bridesmaids, going over wedding details, watching Bridesmaids, and eating cheesecake. Best weekend ever? I think so!

How was yours?

Style Fille: Jamie Chung

How awesome does Jamie Chung look here?! The dress is simple, and not overtly sexy, but throw some red lipstick into the mix, and you get a red-carpet worthy appearance. Top to bottom, from her easy hair-do, to her covetable Proenza Schouler bag, to those rocking platforms – I’m loving it.

What I Wore: She’s Got Flare!

Have you been to Old Navy lately? I am really loving their fall offerings! From breezy $18 tops, to flared jeans for all of $25, I think if it wasn’t for my Proenza booties, this outfit could actually be purchased for less than $50! Not bad, huh?

Right now, I am waiting for a leopard print Old Navy coat to go on sale (I have a wedding budget to adhere to!)…and then my leopard print-ness will literally drive le boyfriend crazy. As the saying goes: you can take a Russian girl out of Russia Kyrgyzstan, but you can’t take the leopard print away from her…or something like that.

Proenza Schouler Fall 2011 Trunk Show at The Room at The Bay

Continuing their “fab fashion guest” streak, The Bay  hosted Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler at The Room last month, to unveil and showcase their Fall 2011 collection. Buzzing with excitement, the event drew a slew of fashion notables, media, and bloggers, who ooh’d and aah’d over the gorgeous clothes, while trying to solve the dilemma of Team Jack or Team Lazaro (Team Lazaro over here).

The event itself went off without a hitch. Kimberly Lyn, Sharon Ng, and I were able to corner the handsome duo for a quick chat/photo session, with me gushing to the boys about the most comfortable (and  hot) boots in my closet (purchased on sale at The Room). Charming and down to earth, Jack and Lazaro were a pleasure to meet. And I couldn’t be happier for these talented New Yorkers, as just a week later, they picked up a CFDA womenswear designers of the year award.

It was incredible to see the Fall 2011 collection up close and personal. The intricately cut velvet dresses, gorgeous sequin tops, and light chiffon layers in moody greens and yellows, as well as in high impact neons, took my breath away, making me wish that I had indeed won a Lotto Max jackpot…if only to be able to afford one of their beautiful dresses. Alas, not this time. The collection will be available at The Room come fall, including some of the most coveted purses out there – PS1 bags in a variety of colors and fabrics. Shoes and clutches will also be available…so keep that in mind, and start saving up now. Because a Proenza Schouler addiction does not come cheap.

Did you end up visiting their trunk show the next day? What do you think about the Fall 2011 collection? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Prada…Not

While I cannot afford a real Spring 2011 Prada dress (yet), this Zara substitute works just fine, don’t you think? I am loving the color combo and the cut of this easy shift. And coupled with the latest fave piece in my closet – the Alex Moto jacket from Club Monaco, this might just be my favorite outfit in a while. I still have to wear a coat over the jacket though…it’s just not warm enough. And apparently it won’t be getting better any time soon, we’ll get as much as 10cm of snow this week! If I ever find those lying groundhogs…

I Wore: Dress – Zara; Jacket – Club Monaco; Leggings – Aritzia; Sunglasses – H&M; Necklace – Forever21; Bag – Prada; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room)

What I Wore: The Wall

Don’t you just love it when you stumble upon something by accident, and it ends up being exactly what you were looking for? Last weekend, while “helping” le boyfriend pick up his brand new table, I spotted an awesome wall of graffiti – and of course, had to have my pictures taken in front of it!

If you’ve been paying attention to Fall 2011 runway shows, you might’ve noticed an abundance of spots and dots all over the place. For that reason, I dug out some of my dotted H&M tights and rocked them till I had frostbite on my butt. Ok, maybe not frostbite…but thin tights + cold weather does not a good combination make. Oh, the things we do for fashion!

So, do you have a favorite Fall 2011 trend yet? Or are you too busy planning out your spring wardrobe to even care about fall? Let me know in the comments!

What I Wore: Are We There Yet?

WARNING: Rant ahead

I am getting serious now! Are we there yet? When will winter be gone already? I am so tired…sooo tired of the cold! I just want some warmth on my face, and for my skin to stop being blue! Seriously, my hands look like they belong to a smurf!

I’m also getting super sick of my parka…I’m thinking of organizing a “BURN, WINTER, BURN” event, where we all throw our parkas into the bonfire, dance around it, while laughing maniacally. Any takers? Anyone? So last weekend, instead of donning the usual…I wore the usual with a lighter coat on top! One small step for me, one giant leap closer to spring…or something.

Rant over.

How are you dealing with winter blues, people? Share some get-happy tips soon, or I might just curl up in a ball and cry for the rest of the winter days.

I Wore: Coat – Old Navy (courtesy of Old Navy); Top – Jacob; Shorts – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Ring – YSL; Bag – Prada; Belt – Nine West (The Bay); Scarf – H&M; Earrings – Chanel

What I Wore: The Fast and the Furryous

Have you seen Get Him to the Greek? If you haven’t, you might be a bit confused…if you have seen it, below is my interpretation of “Furry Walls” by Infant Sorrow (huge fan here).

When the world slips you a Jeffery,
Stroke the furry vest,
Stroke the furry vest,

Furry vests don’t bring me down,
Furry vests please stay around,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

Furry vests kiss me to sleep,
Furry vests please help me read,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

Furry vests can take you on a magic carpet ride,
Furry vests surround you till you got no place to hide,
Let your furry fingers be your guide

Furry vests turn out the light,
Furry vests please stay the night,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

Maybe I’m in heaven with the furry skies above,
All around are furry clouds, look, here’s a furry dove,
Let me stroke your furry vests of love,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

PS. Moral of the story? Furry vests rock!
