What I Wore: Snake Charmer

Is it bad that in my books, this counts as a conservative outfit? When I first wore these snakeskin pants (purchased at my trusty H&M), le boyfriend LITERALLY recoiled in what can only be construed as horror. Yeah, yeah, Eastern European fashions…blah, blah, blah. Snakeskin prints (not unlike other animal prints) are scary to men…and I don’t understand why.

Take these pants, for example…I really like them, not just because python is a huge trend for fall, no! Because high waist elongates my legs, leather detailing on the pockets adds something extra to the look, and because they fit like a dream. Seriously, what’s not to love?

And in order to prove my point (or maybe le boyfriend’s point), I am going to ask you to take this poll. Do you think these pants are work-appropriate? Why or why not? These are cotton trousers, and I think they should be fair game at the office…especially, when worn with something as conservative as my silk Joe Fresh button up. Do you agree? Disagree? Take the poll below, and let me know!

Tell me: Are These Pants Office-Appropriate?

What I Wore: Let the Rain Fall Down

You know, funny thing happened as I got older (and presumably, wiser) – I learned that sometimes, it makes sense to dress sensibly. I no longer NEED to wear the highest of heels during the winter months (I’m not in Texas anymore). I have learned (from many mistakes) that leather boots get ruined after just one season of salty slush, while simultaneously failing to provide any kind of warmth – especially, once said salty slush has somehow eaten away at the leather, letting the freezing water sneak its way into my socks. Thanks, but no thanks.

So last winter, I stuck to my Cougar rain boots all winter long. That’s right rubber boots in the winter. It’s true – they aren’t the warmest. But throw in a pair of wool socks, and you’ve got a pair of waterproof winterized boots! This winter, I am planning to wear rain boots a lot, so I figured I should get a dressier pair…and then…

…I saw them. Mel rain boots. Cute as a can be, ankle-length, and comfy to boot! Perfect with dresses, skinny jeans…pretty much anything, really. I don’t ever want to take these off…well, except for when I sleep…maybe.

What about you? What’s your go-to cold weather footwear? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: Grey, Red, and Sunny

How amazing was the weather this weekend? It’s middle of November, and I didn’t have to wear a coat! It just doesn’t get much better than this…in Toronto.

On top of enjoying the sunshine, I spent some time with my girlfriends bridesmaids, going over wedding details, watching Bridesmaids, and eating cheesecake. Best weekend ever? I think so!

How was yours?

What I Wore: Addicted

I think I might be addicted to Old Navy. Their selection has been so good lately, and their prices are even better! And I just can’t stay away. Do I sound like a proper addict yet?

This coat is from…you guessed it…Old Navy, and my friend Stylish Jo, also has one. And I really, really love it! Oh, and I also got it at 50% off plus 30% off, so it was practically free. Free(ish) and cute? Yes, please!

What I Wore: The Last Hurrah

This is the final LGFW outfit, which I probably should’ve blogged weeks ago, but I didn’t. It was one of those days when I had to wear something work-appropriate, since I had to run to the tents right after work – et voila!

This Moon Apparel dress has been getting quite a lot of action lately – in print, and online, and I too can attest to its wearability, and general awesomeness. Hands down, my favorite work dress ever. Also, for the very first time on the blog – my precious Alberto Guardiani lipstick pumps. So cute…and yet…so uncomfortable! They even hurt my feet while I was SITTING DOWN! Ouch! For now, I’ll chalk that up to having to break them in still…Plus, what’s a lot little bit of pain, when the shoes are that cute! Right? Right???

As for LGFW…more reviews are coming soon! Stay tuned.

I Wore: Coat – c/o Old Navy; Dress – Moon; Belt, Tights – H&M; Shoes – Alberto Guardiani; Clutch – Prada; Sunglasses – Ray Ban

What I Wore: It’s So Easy Being Green

Everyone, meet my favorite outfit ever! A little Club Monaco and Old Navy, with a sprinkle of Prada. Just the way (aha-aha) I like it.

These pants…oh, these pants! When le boyfriend doubted my sanity at Vaughan Mills’ Holts Last Call, I told him to just trust me, before I walked out rocking these babies*. And yet he still had no faith in Miuccia’s designs, or my choices. Pfft, pajama pants my foot!

Yes, these pants might resemble a certain sleeping garment, and yes, I had to alter them not once but twice to get the length just right…but all this effort is so worth it when I walk out of the house, and get admiring puzzled looks from strangers. It’s the best kind of compliment ever.

I Wore: Jacket – Club Monaco; Sweater – Old Navy; Pants, Clutch – Prada; Shoes – Nine West; Necklace – Forever21; Ring – YSL; Leather Bracelet – Danier

*To my international readers: “rocking these babies” doesn’t in any way imply rocking actual babies…it’s just another way to say “wearing these pants”, but in a more confusing manner. Kapish?

What I Wore: Red Hot

Well, LGFW is done and over with…for now. And I am happy to report that I have survived the waiting around, the dehydration, the pushing and the shoving, and the seat stealing. Phew! Weather was pretty sucky last week, so I don’t have too many photos to share with you. Bad blogger, I know.

Making its blog debut is my OBJECT by George Antonopoulos for Danier shirt with leather sleeves. It literally goes with everything…such an awesome purchase! Can’t wait to see what George will come up with for spring!

I also wore these J.Crew lookalike pants that cost me a whopping $11! Yup, you read it right…eleven dollars. The coat was a gift from the Old Navy dream team…and I seriously love it so much! It was tough to choose just one…especially since they have another one available in…wait for it…leopard print! But I resisted the leopard-urge, and picked up this red car coat instead. You like?

More LGFW pics and reports coming soon!

I Wore: Coat, Pants – c/o Old Navy; Shirt – OBJECT by George Antonopoulos for Danier; Necklace – c/o Caroline Neron; Shoes – Nine West; Ring – YSL; Clutch – Prada

What I Wore: These Boots Were Made for Strutting

Last week was an awesome week! Why? I got a box with a pair of these beauties from Stuart Weitzman in the mail! Best-looking lace-up ankle booties I’ve seen in a loooong while! A combination of calf hair and multi-textured leather had me sold at first sight. Plus, le boyfriend loves them too…and that doesn’t happen too often!

And though I’m still gutted that summer is over…these babies will certainly make fall more enjoyable.

I Wore: Shirt – H&M; Skirt, Necklace – Forever21; Boots – c/o Stuart Weitzman; Ring – YSL; Sunglasses – Ray Ban; Bag – Prada

What I Wore: EXpress Yourself

Wore this little number to The Ex this year – comfortable and cute, just the way (aha, aha) I like it! Also wore my newest favorite piece of jewelry from Caroline Néron. The detailing on this exquisite necklace is so intricate…I have been wearing it with everything to everything, and get nothing but compliments. In case you didn’t know, Caroline is a Canadian actress turned jewelry designer. If you haven’t seen her pieces before, make sure to check out her website Bijoux Caroline Néron.

This year’s visit to The Ex was a lot of fun…as expected. We tried some fried cola (tastes like coke-flavored funnel cake), played lots of games (le bf won a pink Blah for me), and gorged on Tiny Tim’s Tom’s donuts. It’s amazing how much fun one can have shooting cork bullets at cans (fact: I have good aim), or pelting rubber chickens into pots.

Have you gone to The Ex this year? You still have a few days to get in on the EXcitement! Fried butter, anyone?

I Wore: Dress – Forever21; Clutch – Prada; Shoes – Marc (Imelda); Necklace – c/o Caroline Néron

What I Wore: J.Crew

Inspired by J.Crew’s stylish President Jenna Lyons, I’ve decided to layer a light linen/cotton J.Crew sweater over a cream maxi dress for a mix of casual and (slightly) dressy. Then I decided to wear it to work…which was a big mistake – rolling my office chair all over the bottom of the skirt, getting the hem stuck in the wheels – not my idea of a productive work day. Thankfully, once my cubicle was out of sight, the outfit got a lot more comfortable. Lesson learned: office chair + maxi skirt = disaster waiting to happen.

Post on J.Crew’s launch party is coming soon! Stay tuned.

Shopping: Prada Gauffre Clutch

I’ve been coveting this Prada Gauffre Clutch for a while now – always stopping by to look at it at Holts, and always hoping to find it at Space in Woodbury or Florence…or wherever else on sale. Well, after my June trip to NYC, I finally gave up, went to Holts and bit the bullet. It’s mine! It’s all mine!!! ***cue maniacal laughter***

Can’t wait to take it out for a spin. It’s so roomy, and soft, and simply perfect. Don’t you think?

What I Wore: Little Green

Born with the moon in Cancer
Choose her a name she will answer to
Call her green and the winters cannot fade her
Call her green for the children who’ve made her
Little green, be a gypsy dancer

He went to California
Hearing that everything’s warmer there
So you write him a letter and say, “Her eyes are blue.”
He sends you a poem and she’s lost to you
Little green, he’s a non-conformer

Just a little green
Like the color when the spring is born
There’ll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow
Just a little green
Like the nights when the Northern lights perform
There’ll be icicles and birthday clothes
And sometimes there’ll be sorrow

Child with a child pretending
Weary of lies you are sending home
So you sign all the papers in the family name
You’re sad and you’re sorry, but you’re not ashamed
Little green, have a happy ending

Just a little green
Like the color when the spring is born
There’ll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow
Just a little green
Like the nights when the Northern lights perform
There’ll be icicles and birthday clothes
And sometimes there’ll be sorrow

(Little Green – Joni Mitchell)

I Wore: Dress - Zara; Shoes – Marc (Imelda); Bag – Prada; Sunglasses – Ray Ban; Necklace – Balisi

Style Fille: Miroslava Duma

Mira is a woman after my own heart, whether wearing the shit out of her scarlett 3.1 Philip Lim trench, rocking an H&M shirt/dress without any shoes, or sporting one of my favorite Christopher Kane galaxy dresses, she always looks like a million bucks. If you’re a fan of this tiny style fille’s fashion sense, make sure to check out her latest venture – Buro 24/7. If you’re a Russian-speaker like me, you’ll be happy to read some great fashion articles, and for the rest of you, there’s Mira’s daily outfits to keep you clicking. Either way, it’s a win-win.

What I Wore: Princess

Last week, thanks to the awesome folks over at Frantic Films, I got to film a guest spot on the Slice TV show – Princess. If you haven’t seen this reality show – it’s basically about spoiled girls that spend way too much money on makeup/clothes/hair/going out, then milk their friends/family/boyfriends for money, while accumulating a lot of debt in the process. The show’s host and Financial Guru Gail Vaz-Oxlade teaches these “princesses” to live within their means through a series of challenges.

My role in one of the challenges was to critique Sarah-The-Princess’ blog post about style on a student’s budget. It was really exhillarating to have been able to participate in the filming…mostly because I had to push my personal anxieties aside, and step out of my comfort zone to be able to do it.

I’m not exactly sure what my 10 seconds of fame will look like, given that I was trembling like a leaf on the inside…but hopefully I wasn’t a spectacular failure at my first attempt at reality TV. Thank goodness for the wonderful crew, that helped me feel as comfortable as I possibly could. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

As for my outfit…I’ve been getting LOTS of compliments, quizzical looks, and “where did you buy it” questions about this skirt. And the truth is - it was somewhat of a DIY. I chopped off most of the lining to give it a breezy, see-through look, but other than that – it’s from (and courtesy of) Gap! You like?

I Wore: Top – H&M; Skirt – c/o Gap (DIY); Scarf – Alexander McQueen (Holt Renfrew); Shoes – Urban Outfitters; Bag – Prada; Bracelet – BCBG; Ring – YSL; Sunglasses – Ray Ban
