NYFW Fall 2013: Street Style Looks Part 2

nyfw-fall-2013-day-2-street-style-5

Watching New York Fashion Week attendees battle the elements this February was interesting…to say the least. Piles of snow, layers of icy slush, and frigid winds didn’t stop the stylish crowds from bringing it. And while I kinda gave up on fashun after a particularly cold day at the tents, these awesome street stylers certainly didn’t. From stunning outerwear, to  creative layering, to eye-popping accessories, great looks were on display all over the place, and I was right there to capture it all for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy, and let me know which outfits you like best!

What I Wore: FAJO Magazine’s Love Issue

fajo-magazine-nelia-belkova-2

Last month, Canada’s leading digital fashion magazine FAJO invited me to participate in a fun little photoshoot for their Love Issue, and of course, I couldn’t say no! I got to wear my own clothes, with the only suggestion being that I wear a little bit of red, because…LOVE…duh! And here’s what I came up with.

The first look represents one of my favourite spring trends – black and white stripes. After searching for a pair of Beetlejuice pants for what seemed like forever, I finally stumbled upon these H&M skinnies, and have been happily wearing them since. For an obligatory pop of red, I chose my brand-spanking-new ela editor clutch, which I won (yay!) from Holt Renfrew, and a swipe of red lipstick.

For my second outfit, I wore more stripes, because that’s what I do best. I also threw on my Charlotte Olympia Luna pumps that I scored on MAJAH sale at The Room, a pair of good old boyfriend jeans, and heart sunnies from my wedding. Simple, fun, and oh-so-me!

NYFW Fall 2013: Street Style Looks Part 1

nyfw-fall-2013-day-24

NYFW is passing by in a whirlwind of appointments, shows, and snowy sidewalks. But apart from seeing some beautiful designs up close and personal, my favourite part of this experience has definitely been street style. Watching people come out of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents, in sometimes immaculately styled, sometimes batshit crazy outfits is never boring, and has kept me entertained all week long. So here are a few of my favourite street style looks that I spotted in New York this season. From the Smurfette-worthy clothes and hair, to fun pops of neon, these street stylers might just inspire you to try something new this winter.

What I Wore: Paisley and Fish Scales

prada-fish-scale-clutch

Shooting outfit posts in the winter sucks. There, I said it. Half the time, I am bundled up to my chin in a blanket-like Canada Goose jacket and a pair of comfy boots, while the other half, you can find me in my PJs. Not very blog-post-worthy. So this outfit is from October, when the weather was still leather-jacket-perfect and going tights-less didn’t feel like an act of rebellion and/or insanity. Sorry for recycling, but fresh outfit posts are coming SOON! I promise.

What I Wore: Dream Wardrobe

nelia-belkova-kathryn-wilkins

How awesome is this illustration of me rocking my dream Spring 2013 pieces like the now-infamous checkered Louis Vuitton dress and these hot-to-trot Alexander Wang sandals?! Pretty amazing, non? Well, this is all thanks to my friend Marcus, who introduced me to artist Kathryn Wilkins and her lovely blog LOOKBOOKILLUST! Once I saw the multitude of gorgeous illustrations and the attention to detail that Kathryn puts into her pieces, I knew I had to commission her!

This isn’t the first piece that Kathryn did of me, but it’s the one I asked her to do for my blog’s new header. If you’ve been reading for a while, you know that I’m (very) slowly changing up the look of the site, and this adorable addition is just what Style Blog’s been missing. While deciding on what to “wear” for this illustration, I decided to go with aspirational dressing, rather than my good-old real clothes. Just because I can’t afford the entire Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 collection doesn’t mean that cartoon Nelia can’t.

If you like this illustration and would like one of yourself, or your dog, or yourself and your boyfriend/friend/husband/mom/goldfish, Kathryn is still accepting commissions, so if I were you, I’d jump on that before some huge company scoops her (and her talents) up. She already got a fun gig working for Bourjois, so who knows what’s next for this amazing woman!

What do you think of cartoon Nelia? Do you like Kathryn’s work? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: Airport Style

travel-style-what-to-wear-to-airport-2

Last year, I wrote a post on packing light, sharing my fave tips on travelling with my trusty Heys carry-on. And while I mentioned my airport-wear essentials in that post, since a lot of you will be travelling this winter, I thought it might be worth a show-and-tell.

As you can see, my in-flight style is pretty simple. Jeans with stretch for comfort and the softest sweatshirt I own, leather jacket to warm me up in case it gets chilly, a pair of comfy boots that I can quickly take off at security, and of course, socks! No belt or jewellery to remove (I pack those in a clutch inside my carry-on), no uncomfortable pieces of clothing to worry about. Just a practical outfit, paired with a roomy Longchamp tote filled with toiletries (in a clear bag), magazines, documents, pashmina, and a small purse, along with my Heys carry-on. Effective and efficient. I can’t stress enough how much easier going through security is when you think your outfit and your packing through. Huge difference!

So tell me about your airport style! Do you glam it up while travelling, or do you wear the comfiest thing you can find? Share your secrets in the comments!

What I Wore: Swept Away

orange-lace-dress

Even though my December getaway was less than a month away, I am ready for another trip. Looking at these photos, I wish we’d taken two weeks instead of just one. Two weeks of this. Two weeks of beach, food, and relaxation. Instead, it’s back to reality. C’est la vie.

At least 6 more months until I can wear dresses like this one again.

What I Wore: White Christmas

dolce-vita-white-lace-dress-2

This was me just over a week ago, enjoying the warmth of the sun, the waves of the ocean, and the delicious food at Hard Rock Hotel Punta Cana. Le bf and I decided to skip traditional gift-giving this year, in favour of a lovely getaway from the cold and the snow, and it was the best decision ever! Looking at these photos now makes me jealous of myself…I know how irrational it sounds, but I wish my view was still palm trees as opposed to snow blowing diagonally outside my office window. Le sigh.

Back to fashion. I first saw this Dolce Vita dress in Barcelona last year, and though I totally fell head over heels, I simply couldn’t justify the inflated resort prices and left it…only to find it waiting for me on Shopbop on sale! Was it meant to be, or what? Obviously, I snatched it up, and the rest is history. I love the way (from certain angles) the daisies actually look like snowflakes, which makes this dress even more perfect for Christmas. White Christmas without snow? Totally possible.

Merry Christmas, and a Happy Boxing Day!

merry-christmas-style-blog

Merry Christmas, lovelies! Hope you are surrounded by your nearest and dearest today, and that Santa is extra nice to you. This year, le bf and I jetted off to the Caribbean for a different kind of a white Christmas…white sand, white dresses, and zero snow! But wherever you are, and whatever your Christmas looks like, hope it brings you joy and peace!

Also…don’t forget to do some major damage on Boxing Day! See you all soon!

xoxo
