What I Wore: Snake Charmer

Is it bad that in my books, this counts as a conservative outfit? When I first wore these snakeskin pants (purchased at my trusty H&M), le boyfriend LITERALLY recoiled in what can only be construed as horror. Yeah, yeah, Eastern European fashions…blah, blah, blah. Snakeskin prints (not unlike other animal prints) are scary to men…and I don’t understand why.

Take these pants, for example…I really like them, not just because python is a huge trend for fall, no! Because high waist elongates my legs, leather detailing on the pockets adds something extra to the look, and because they fit like a dream. Seriously, what’s not to love?

And in order to prove my point (or maybe le boyfriend’s point), I am going to ask you to take this poll. Do you think these pants are work-appropriate? Why or why not? These are cotton trousers, and I think they should be fair game at the office…especially, when worn with something as conservative as my silk Joe Fresh button up. Do you agree? Disagree? Take the poll below, and let me know!

Tell me: Are These Pants Office-Appropriate?

Shopping: Spring 2011 Essentials

I am so ready for spring! Sunshine, double-digit temperatures, birds chirping, love in the air…I am missing it all. But is my closet spring-ready? That’s another question.

For months now, I’ve been buying things here and there, trying to make sure that my wardrobe consists of enough fun pieces to carry me through spring in style. And below are my top Spring 2011 essentials (part 1).

What I Wore: Vestervention

I’ve been a little obsessed with this faux fur vest lately. I wear it to work, out with friends, on dates, and to go shopping. This has become the go-to piece (the one that seemingly goes with everything) in my closet. I am not sure whether it was an amazing buy, or whether I’ll need a vest intervention soon. In the meantime, I am wearing it with anything and everything. And I’ll have more photos to prove it…soon.

I Wore: Dress – Forever21; Vest – Winners; Tights – H&M; Shoes – Nine West; Belt – Moschino via The Room; Bag - Longchamp

What I Wore: Sasquatch Bear

Wore this fuzzy sweater to the One of a Kind Show and to watch Tangled on Sunday. Got stopped by practically every woman I met, because they all wanted to touch me. No, not like that…it’s just that a lot of them thought that I looked like a giant teddy bear – soft and huggable. Le boyfriend on the other hand, thought that I looked more like a Chewbacca or a Sasquatch. Pot-ay-to, Pot-ah-to. Man repelling to the extreme, but still huggable? I’ll take it.

On the practical side, though, I loved wearing a maxi dress (with leggings underneath) and a cozy sweater this Sunday - it turned out to be a warm and comfortable outfit, with some style points deducted while wearing a coat on top…which made me look like a nun. A nun with super red lips, nonetheless.

How was your weekend? Share in the comments, lovelies!

What I Wore: Girls’ Night Out

Wore this to dinner with my girlfriends last Friday. We went to Osteria Ciceri e Tria and ended up having a blast of a time, catching up on gossip, latest adventures and holiday plans. Haven’t hung out with my besties in a while now. I mean, sure, we’ve gotten together for lunches and shopping sprees, but not like that, not all-together at a dinner table, dolled up and not having to rush-rush-rush…not in a while now.

The holidays are almost here, there’s only one more month left until Christmas, and then it’ll be all turkey, champers and mistletoe…and of course, family, friends, and loved ones. It’s my favorite time of the year! And also, the time of the year, I tend to slow down on blogging, working, and running around…trying to focus on the small things that make me happy instead. My top three (apart from hanging out with my loved ones) are: mushy holiday films (Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary), baking cookies and brownies, and wrapping Christmas presents. What are yours?

What I Wore: Dress, Faux Fur Collar, Tights, Wide Belt – H&M; Cardigan – Forever21; Bag – Prada; Belt – Moschino; Shoes – D&G; Earrings – Chanel

What I Wore: Lanvin for H&M

This is me, around 8:30 am on a Saturday (which is unheard of), happy as a hippo to have been able to snatch up the things I wanted from the Lanvin x H&M collection. Got the dresses I loved, the necklace, the totes, and a couple of other things. I was really, really lucky at the Yorkdale location - most things were gone in less than 30 minutes!

Shopping was done in an actual cage! Can you believe it? Cage shopping in 15 minutes: grab, pull, yank, grab, yell…No, it wasn’t too horrible. No one got slapped nor stabbed in Toronto, as opposed to the rumour that 3 people were hurt in a Lanvin dispute in New York. We were all pretty civilized, considering the circumstances. Sales associates were extremely attentive – helping find sizes, boxes, etc…all while being super pleasant…perhaps they felt bad for all the shopaholics in line.

As a reward for our patience, dresses were wrapped in beautiful garment bags, shoe bags were given for shoes, and credit cards were maxed out all around. Seeing my total on the cash register display made me feel slightly faint, but the 30 day return policy calmed my nerves (a bit).

The collab was a mad success, and some were even wondering whether Lanvin would do a second collab with the fast-fashion giant. Only time will tell. For now, I have to make sure that I coordinate my holiday outfits, as to avoid wearing the same things my friends are wearing. Lanvin or not, being dress-twins is so not cool.

PS. If you haven’t gotten a piece of Lanvin x H&M and are still holding out hope for a dress or two, items off the mannequins will be sold today. So make sure to stop by your nearest store.

I Wore: Cardigan – Billabong; Leggings – Target; Tank Top – Forever21; Boots – Zara; Bag – Prada; Belt – Moschino

Travel: Maison Moschino Hotel

Even though it’s going against the way I’m feeling at the moment (rather annoyed), I consider myself a very lucky person. I love to travel, and have been trying to get out of the city any chance I get. The last three years marked a particular spike in my travel hours, having been to Paris three times in as many years, Rome, Sorrento (one of favorite places for sure), Madrid, Krakow, London, Almaty, Lugano, Cabo, Varadero, Vegas, Houston, among a few others. And though I promised myself that last year’s European getaway was my last for a while, here I am planning yet another one this fall. I guess Europe just doesn’t want to let me go?

One of my stops this year is Milan – fashion capital of Italy. While looking for suitable lodging in the city, I came across Maison Moschino hotel, consisting of 65 rooms inspired by various fairy tales, from Alice in Wonderland to Little Red Riding Hood. The rooms look so chic and whimsical, that if not for the fact that I have to stay in Milan for 3 nights (and 300EUR per night will surely add up), I would no doubt book a room at Maison Moschino. Perhaps le boyfriend and I will check out the hotel bar instead, grab a dessert at their chic restaurant, and maybe even sneak upstairs to see the rooms in their cutesy glory.

But I guess with designer bars, restaurants and hotels being all the rage in Milan, I might be too busy dancing the night away at Just Cavalli Café, or dining at the glam Gold by Dolce and Gabbana, or maybe having a drink at the understated Armani Cafe - to be too sad about not staying at Maison Moschino after all.

What are your thoughts on Maison Moschino? Have you been to Milan or Florence? Do you have any “must-see” recommendations for us? Please share in the comments!

Wishlist: Birthday Girl

It’s my birthday next week! Hooray for cake, not-so-hooray for the aging part…

Above is my birthday wish list, in case you want to send me a little something-something. I do love birthday gifts, I won’t lie. And as any shopaholic, the few latest items I’ve been coveting are slightly outrageous…well, not horrendously outrageous, but definitely things that I would not buy myself (oh, and also tough to find, since some of them are a few seasons old). And though there’s obviously no Birthday Santa out there (is there???), it doesn’t hurt to throw it out in the universe and see who hears me, right?

I would also love to hear about your birthday wish-lists! Is there anything that you would really love to get on your birthday, that you would not buy for yourself? Let me know in the comments!

Links to items, after the jump!
