Style Fille: Miroslava Duma

Mira is a woman after my own heart, whether wearing the shit out of her scarlett 3.1 Philip Lim trench, rocking an H&M shirt/dress without any shoes, or sporting one of my favorite Christopher Kane galaxy dresses, she always looks like a million bucks. If you’re a fan of this tiny style fille’s fashion sense, make sure to check out her latest venture – Buro 24/7. If you’re a Russian-speaker like me, you’ll be happy to read some great fashion articles, and for the rest of you, there’s Mira’s daily outfits to keep you clicking. Either way, it’s a win-win.

What I Wore: School’s Out For Summer

Here’s a quick look at what I wore to Lisa and Wendy’s Hip & Urban Girl anniversary at SCHOOL. This Missoni skirt is by far, one of my most favorite Winners finds ever. It wasn’t cheap, but since I can wear it as a skirt and as a dress – this double duty makes it worth every penny. And the colors, the knit, the pattern…love it all so much!

And once again…the Levi’s denim jacket. It’s practically second skin to me, especially with this ever-changing weather – it keeps me warm, while looking cool. Right? RIGHT?

What I Wore: Skirt worn as a dress – Missoni (Winners); Denim Jacket – c/o Levi’s; Belt, Friendship Bracelets, Rings - H&M; Bag – c/o Ecco; Shoes – Zara; Turquoise Ring – YSL; Bracelet – BCBG

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala 2011: Best

There’s no night like the Met’s Costume Institute Gala for fashion porn. To me, not even the Oscars can compete with THE  fashion event that is Met Ball. Which is why, year after year, I keep hoping for more drama, more choices that aren’t exactly safe – something eye-popping, gorgeous, and not boo-ring. This year, there were so many champagne color safe gowns, some really beautiful (Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartney), others (cough*Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney*cough) not so much, but all withouth exception – boring, boring, boring. And though the idea of “Best Dressed” is really a matter of preference and opinion, here are my top 5 best-dressed ladies of the night.

1. Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop Unique

Lovely pop of color and that beautiful face with perfect makeup, and her new-ish pixie. This one was my favorite look of the night.

2. Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

You already know that I love me some Diane. And I felt that her super-high thigh-slit and those gorgeous gams of hers really made this look. So hot!

3. Margherita Missoni in Missoni

A dress that is part sorbet buffet and part Swan Lake…I’m all over it! Love her choice of accessories, and that messy bun. Such a fun, fresh, young look. Love it!

4. Anna Dello Russo in Alexander McQueen

This was rather understated for ADR, no? But I still loved her take on feminine tuxedo-dressing, egg-headpiece and all.

5. Liv Tyler in Givenchy Couture

The entire Spring 2011 Givenchy Couture collection was one of the best in a very long time, and this gown is definitely anything but boring. I love the color, the feathers, and the origami-like detailing. I wish I could wear something this beautiful one day. It’s exquisite!

Do you agree with my picks? Do you think they are hideous? Did you have some other favorites? Discuss in the comments?

Shopping: Fall 2010 Essentials

Here in Canada, we’ve been royally spoiled this summer – endless summer days, warm patio nights, trips to the lake, and finally some sort of resemblance of a tan! I don’t think we’ve ever had a summer this amazing! But as they say, eventually all good things come to an end. And here we are, going into another fall season, pretty hopeless after completely blocking out what it feels like to walk through slush and hurricane-like freezing winds (or is it just me?).

So in order to get excited about the inevitable chill, I thought I’d share some of my Fall 2010 Essentials with all of you (if you want to see my Fall 2009 essentials, click here). Read about them after the jump!

Converse Fall 2010 Collection Preview

What a bad blogger I have been! I really don’t have an excuse, other than…I’ve been horribly lazy. Umm…no, not lazy…busy…yeah, that’s it. Either way, sorry once again, and I will definitely try to bring my A-game for the remainder of the summer…”try” being the key word.

A couple of weeks ago, the lovelies over at MBCommunications invited me among the other fashion-loving set to attend the Fall 2010 preview of Converse aka Most Amazing Casual Shoes EVER. And though to me, nothing beats the boring  classic black and white Chucks, some shoes that I saw at the preview made me reconsider. There were shoes for every type of person out there: fun “Seuss” Chucks, slick Jack Purcells, glittery Converse for tweens, amazing band-inspired shoes, winter-boot Converse, and of course the good-old classic Chuck Taylors.

The thing that really got me excited was definitely the Dr. Seuss collection. Having a little nephew of my own, I cannot wait till he’s old enough to rock the adorable red high-tops. In the meantime, I guess I could get a pair for myself…don’t judge me, I’m still a huge kid at heart!

Some styles are already available at the Get Outside  store on Queen St., while others will be coming in throughout August/September. Make sure to call the store for availability. Now if only they carried Converse x Missoni collection too…perhaps next year?

Friday Faux Pas: Missoni Euge Bag

Have been a huge fan of Missoni’s iconic prints for ages! Which is why I am so disappointed with Margherita Missoni’s first attempt at designing handbags. She says that she was inspired by her girlfriends – the not-so-girls-next-door Eugenie Niarchos, Tatiana Santo Domingo, Lauren Santo Domingo and Coco Brandolini. Well, if I were Eugenie Niarchos, I don’t think I’d take the new “Euge” bag as a compliment. Is Margherita trying to hint that Eugenie’s style reminds her of a roadkill turtle? Because that’s what it looks like to me.

The rest of the bags don’t entice as many stabby/punchy feelings in me, so I won’t rant about those (though I would never ever buy one). And though Missoni is trying to appeal to a younger audience with this capsule handbag collection, would any of your sane neighbourhood young-ins spend $3,140 on the above-mentioned “Euge” bag? I don’t think so! For that amount, I can easily waltz into my local Chanel store and buy a 2.55…why the hell would I buy THAT thing?

Am I not getting it? Do you hate me for hating this bag? Let me know in the comments!
