What I Wore: Holts Muse

holts muse

When I got an email from Holt Renfrew, asking me to participate in a Blogger Style Challenge for Holts Muse, I was ecstatic! Getting to roam the store, pick out anything and everything I liked, to put together 3 outfits – sounds like a dream, right? Well, it certainly was a lot of fun. Gracie, Elizabeth, and yours truly were each given a fun spring piece to style three different ways, and were then photographed by the amazing Adam Moco. Tough job, but someone had to do it.

My spring item was a sporty yellow mini from DVF. For my first outfit, I paired it with a kick-ass Balenciaga leather vest, a lovely Joie striped tee, and a red Balenciaga bag to complete the look. I also wore my own H&M tights, and Stuart Weitzman booties.

For my second outfit, I mixed prints by wearing a lovely DVF cardi over the versatile Equipment blouse, and finished off the look with an adorable neon pink DVF clutch. A little color to brighten up the day. I also wore the Loeffler Randall Natane lace-up stilettos…aka my wedding shoes. You like?

Holidays 2010: Cool Guy Gift Ideas

For some awful reason, gift-buying for le boyfriend is particularly difficult this year. I don’t know if it’s due to the lack of paying attention on my part, or due to his lack of wanting things. I’m guessing it’s the former.

If you’re unsure, uninspired, and completely don’t know what to get your special someone this Christmas, check out a few gifts I’ve given in the past, and would consider giving in the future. Once again, prices range from $29.95 to $450, to fit various budgets.

Oh, and if you don’t find what you’re looking for here, check out Holidays 2009, and Valentine’s Day gift guydes. Any other suggestions? Please feel free to let me know in the comments…I am still not done shopping!

1. Old Navy Fair Isle Cardigan $54.50 (Old Navy)

2. Marc Jacobs BANG $69 (The Bay)

3. Burton Snowboard from $450 (Burton)

Foodie: Breyers Ice Cream Party

When life gives you lemons, you’re supposed to make lemonade. But what are you supposed to do when a PR company sends you 5 coupons for free ice-cream? Throw an ice-cream party, of course! Last week a few of my friends and I got together after a looong week at the office to try Breyers new Smooth & Dreamy ice-cream (with 1/2 fat), enjoy some sunshine, and catch-up.

It all started out innocently enough…with a few cups of jello (thanks, le boyfriend!), chocolate syrup, sugar cones, some popsicles, and Mocha Fudge Brownie, Strawberries & Cream, and Dulce de Leche Breyers ice-cream. The ice-cream was incredibly smooth (just like the packaging stated), and absolutely delicious. The most popular flavor of the night was definitely Mocha Fudge Brownie…with actual chunks of brownies in it. Deeelicious! But I was also smitten with Dulce de Leche ice-cream, because of its creamy caramely taste…it just doesn’t get any better that that. I truly hope that this ice-cream is 1/2 fat, because after all of the cones consumed, I probably gained another 20 pounds that I was intending to lose. But nevermind…

It probably wasn’t such a great idea to hold an ice-cream party on a roof…because our cones were melting faster than we were able to eat them, and with Smooth & Dreamy ice-cream being especially soft, I had to keep running downstairs to refreeze it in order to avoid turning it into a milkshake. A portable freezer would’ve been handy.

Jo came over, wearing her new Marc Jacobs mouse flats…and we decided to take a shoe photo together…here’s my red vintage dead stock jelly Marc Jacobs flats from Apartment 909  and Jo’s adorable patent mouse ones. I think I want to swap!

After we were done with the ice-cream, some folks got hungry for real food, and out came the frozen beef skewers. After defrosting them in the sun, le boyfriend grilled them up, along with some fries. They weren’t fantastic, but it did the trick and maybe they weren’t cooked well enough, or perhaps we were just letting loose after the gruelling week, but the craziness ensued.

We invented a new way of eating ice-cream: cone-rings! Convenient and portable…patent pending.

Other uses for ice-cream cones included cone-noses, cone-ears, and crushed cones all over people’s heads…ahem…I think someone might’ve spiked our ice-cream with Kahlua or something. That would also explain excessive salt on the fries…and my scary facial expressions.

After the clouds threatened to soak our roof-top party, we all moved downstairs to le boyfriend’s condo and continued the party with some Rock Band and some pizza. But not before a few attempts at a group photo…I think this one turned out ok. And it only took us…10 tries?

What I Wore: Quebec City Part 2

After a day of shopping and eating in Quebec City, and falling on the bed half-conscious and half-incapacitated, getting ready to go out in the evening was a bit of a challenge, but I think we did ok. I finally got to wear my new H&M Fashion Against AIDS Missoni-inspired tank top dress. It’s definitely on a shorter side, and used to be quite see-through, before I’d attached my old white t-shirt as lining at the bottom, but I simply loved the color and the pattern of this tank! Surely, I’ll get lots and lots of use out of it on steamy summer nights, running barefoot on the beach…and did I mention that it cost me $15?!

Though I do question how lucky this particular dress is, because after getting a table at Savini on Grande Allée, some lady promptly managed to spill my drink all over my dress. Thankfully, the fabric didn’t stain and dried pretty fast (except for the t-shirt lining part). I didn’t let this little mishap ruin our night, and we ended up having an incredibly delicious meal, before heading to the hotel to get some rest for the next day.

What I Wore: Tank Dress, Men’s Bracelet, Belt, Nail Polish - H&M; Blazer – Zara; Turquoise Bracelet – Urban Outfitters; Bangles – Forever21; Necklace – Marc by Marc Jacobs; Backpack – Chanel; Shoes – Oscar by Oscar de la Renta

Elle Spain’s Disney Designers

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Karl Lagerfeld fell into some well (ala Enchanted) only to end up in a Disney-animated world? Well, Elle Spain certainly has given it some thought, and the results, I must admit, are pretty cool! Can totally see Donatella as a duck, it’s completely spot on! But then again, most of the designers in the spread are ducks (with the exception of Karl, and D&G). Were the folks at Elle Spain too scared to paint someone as a pig, a cow, or…gasp…an elephant in their April 2010 issue? I would guess so. I, for one, would never want to taste someone like Karl’s wrath! No, thanks!

I think these cartoons are pretty amazing! Do you? Sound off in the comments!

Friday Faux Pas: Louis Vuitton Trash Bag Purse

So, the ridiculous just keeps on giving this week. If you still haven’t gotten a gift for your loved one, this trash bag Louis Vuitton “Raindrop Besace” would make a perfect gift! And if you thought the Chanel “Easter Basket” purse was a tad overpriced, this one will only set you back a “measly” $1960.

Seriously, do designers just think that if they release anything as limited edition, people will be dumb enough to buy it? And come on…$1960 for a plastic bag? No, thanks. Which celeb will be the first to wear this? I say…Paris Hilton?

What I’m Wearing: Orange You Glad?

Don’t usually feel this way, but I felt decidedly girlie the other day. Hence the floral skirt, pearl earrings, and bow necklace. I love playing dress-up in my closet once in a while. It used to be way more often (like a few times a day), but now…with all work and no play, dress-up takes a back seat. Which is kinda sad.

Oh, and I bought yet another Breton-striped shirt. I think this is officially a full-blown obsession…I have over 10 very similar striped tops (cropped, tank, tee, long sleeve, long sleeve dress, 3/4 sleeve, and a few others)…and I still have an eye on one more at H&M. Do I need an intervention?

To Buy or Not To Buy: Miss Marc Edition

So on my latest Holt Renfrew jaunt, something impossibly adorable caught my eye! A Miss Marc by Marc Jacobs t-shirt, featuring the oftentimes grumpy cartoon character with her boyfriend (?) sitting on a ski lift in full ski gear. Super cute for any fashionable ski/snowboard addict out there, right? But this being Marc by Marc Jacobs, the t-shirt cost $65! Now the question is this…worth it or not so much?

I left the store empty-handed that time, persuaded by my friends that dropping that much money on a cartooney t-shirt (however adorable) was not a smart thing to do. But now, a week later and with a snowboarding trip coming up, I find myself still thinking about my little grumpy Miss Marc. Can’t find an actual photo of that t-shirt, but the photo above should give you an idea. So what say you, lovely readers? Yay or nay?

Update: And here’s the reason why I couldn’t find a photo online for a bit…Mr. and Miss. Marc Ski Lift Tee launched exclusively at Holt Renfrew as the new limited-edition Miss Marc Hearts Canada issue. The Canadian in me says…go get it!

All Dolled Up

Love these dolls so much! I want them all! There’s Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Gareth Pugh, Proenza Schouler…and more! If I had a daughter, I would definitely want her to have one of these Kouklitas (which seems like a Spanish-ified version of the Russian word for doll – Koukla). I can’t decide on my favorite here. They are all so cute! A little creepy too (they remind me of those 3D paintings by Phoebe from Friends, remember those?)…but still more cute than creepy! Which one is your fave?

What I’m Wearing: Houston, TX

I’ve only been gone 4 days, but it feels like forever! That’s what being in Texas does to a girl. Some of you might know that I’ve spent a few of my college years in Houston, and out of those 4 or so years came a lot of friendships that will hopefully last a lifetime. Well, last weekend one of my dearest friends, Jen, got married to the love of her life Joe. And to celebrate that wonderful occasion, le boyfriend and I flew to Texas! Unfortunately for us, no carry-ons were allowed on flights from Canada to the US at the time, and perhaps due to my horrendous “luck” with baggage, ours was lost somewhere in Atlanta, which meant almost 3 days (out of 4), including the wedding, without our clothes. Rock and roll, right?

Well, after much stress and frustration, we went shopping and I finally was able to find these hot Aldo cage sandals in my size and on sale! I also bought a tweed Zara blazer, a one-shoulder Zara dress, and a few other items that I’ll be posting about later on. These pics were taken on our last day in Houston, after we’ve received our luggage. So it’s really a mix of what I brought with me with the items I had to buy out of necessity.

Note that the weather is…beautiful! This was taken on January 11th! While it was frigid and snowy in Toronto, le boyfriend and I frolicked in the sunshine, not wearing much clothes at all! And all those Texans still complained about the cold! Had I never moved to Canada, perhaps I wouldn’t appreciate those sunny days either…But I did move, and I did appreciate. Sunny days, delicious food, Southern hospitality, even if you only have one pair of underwear…what can be better?

I’m Wearing: Shoes, Bracelet - Aldo; Blazer – Zara; Top – Jacob; Pants – Forever21; Sunglasses – Ray Ban; Earrings – Chanel; Purse – Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs Weds Lorenzo Martone?

Congratulations are in order for Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone, who, according to The Cut, got married in St Barts this week!  Such a low-key wedding for Jacobs comes as a surprise. For some reason, I expected a more lavish ceremony from those two. Either way the newlyweds look so relaxed and happy, and the cake topper is super cute! Mazel tov!

Update: The designer did not tie the knot, according to his rep. Perhaps it was some sort of a rehearsal or a decoy? Or was it? I’m sure the internet will be abuzz with “did he or didn’t he” questions for a while. Will keep you posted!

What I’m Wearing: Cha-nelly

chanelly

Sorry for the lower than usual post-volume today. The Yorkdale is Me contest is tying me up a bit as the competition is heating up! People are going crazy with voting, and the fact that you can vote an unlimited number of times per IP address makes it even more competitive! All I know is that I’ve got a tough month ahead of me!

How was your Halloween? I didn’t do much, since I woke up with a head-exploding-eye-popping headache on Saturday. No dressing up for me this year. Oh well, at least I wore my Coco Chanel-inspired outfit on Friday! And though maybe Gabrielle Chanel didn’t wear leather pants to work, I did. As you can see, I didn’t work too hard on making this look very costume-y, but my outfit of H&M striped shirt paired with pearls, and worn with a black Zara jacket and flats was definitely inspired by Coco Avant and After Chanel. And unlike some of you, lucky ducks, I still don’t have my very own Chanel 2.55, but my Stam is a cute substitute in the meantime.

Hope you all had a great Monday!

Halloween 2009: Marc Jacobs and Bergdorf Windows

mj halloween4

Most of us had come to expect festive holiday displays in various retailers’ windows come Christmas. Well, perhaps because of the scary economy, or just for fun, some stores decked their windows out in something other than “boughs of holly” and brought us these awesome Halloween displays! Whether it’s swampy in NYC, or abstract in San Francisco, Marc Jacobs didn’t lack the creativity and tried to perhaps bring some of the window shoppers into his stores instead. Although to be perfectly honest, I really don’t know whether I would be brave enough to venture into a toxic zombie waste swamp to shop for clothes. Eeek! I do, however, loooove the cow window! It’s got a perfect pop of color and is weird enough to catch my attention as I walk down the street! Wish I was in San Fran to witness it firsthand!

Bergdorf’s windows are also quite stunning, showing various fairy tales with a technological twist. Princess and the PC, anyone? Not as fun as MJ, but visually captivating all the same. So what do you guys think? Do these windows scare you away, or make you want to shop till you drop?

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2010

PFW1

Above from left to right: Givenchy, Celine, Chloé

Paris Fashion Week wraps up tomorrow, but I am too anxious to wait, so I’ll give you my faves today! Oh, Paris, how I love thee! So many amazing designers, so many beautiful creations…oh, how I wish I was there. I’ve been to Paris a few times now, and every time I find something different, something new to love about the city of light. And as far as fashion weeks go, this one is my favorite, hands down.

PFW3

Above from left to right: Christian Dior, Balmain, Nina Ricci

Again, I’m not sure if it’s because I am trying to see it, or if it really is an upcoming trend, but I am seeing nudes everywhere! But this being the Spring 2010 fashion week, there was plenty of color too! My favorite yellow at Stella McCartney, aqua at Viktor & Rolf, Kenzo, and McQueen, gorgeous red at Lanvin, orange at John Galliano, and many others.

PFW2

Above from left to right: Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Viktor & Rolf

And while I love me some Chanel, I wasn’t very impressed with anything from the spring collection this time around (or maybe it’s the clogs), so I am not including it in the highlights lineup. The collection I am definitely including is Alexander McQueen! Just look at the details! It’s underworld meets bug’s life! The fabrics, the shapes, the shoes, the hair! I couldn’t pick one, I love it all!

mcqueen

And while, others are showering Louis Vuitton’s collection with praise, to me…I just didn’t get it. More clogs, furry tails hanging off shoes, mish-mash of shapes and patterns. Not my cup of tea. And seriously, are you kidding me with this…are clogs really going to be in this coming spring??? I, for one, will never ever wear clogs! This is a promise. There’s far too many beautiful shoes out there to waste my time wearing something so ugly!

lv clogs

So c’est tout for Paris Fashion Week Spring 2010. I’m feeling a little sad to have to wait until the Resort collections will be released, but I think we had a great run with all these amazing clothes from London, New York, Paris, Milan…I guess we all can start making our wish lists for spring!
