Wednesday Candy: Michael Fassbender in Interview

Happy Hump Day, everyone! This week’s Wednesday Candy is my latest celeb crush, and ”the man on fire” - Michael Fassbender. I don’t know about you, but I could stare and stare at this cover for hours. And I actually have. He’s just so…hot. I have to admit that I have quite an…unhealthy…obsession with Fassy. Over the Christmas break, I’ve watched him in Shame, Jane Eyre, Fish Tank, Angel, Centurion…and a little bit of Hunger. Having watched all those films, I am still on a Fass-bender, and this weekend, I’ll probably drag someone to see A Dangerous Method to fuel my obsession.

Anyone else out there with a Fassy problem? Let’s commiserate in the comments.

What I Wore: All-Canadian

Speaking of Toronto Fashion Week! Guess who was featured in Flare Magazine’s Wear Canada: Blogger Edition? Style Blog!!!

My fellow bloggers, and I were asked to wear our fave Canadian pieces for this post, and boy…was it ever difficult to choose! In the end, I wore this comfy Ashley Rowe dress, accessorized with a belt by George Antonopoulos (OBJECT for Danier Leather), a bracelet I picked up at The Bay, and a pair of my fave Aldo boots. Not too shabby, and pretty much all Canadian.

Trying to figure out what to wear made me realize that I actually own a ton of pieces by Canadian brands and designers. Which was definitely a nice surprise! What about you? Do you have Canadian fashion faves? If so, share in the comments!

PS. Huge thanks to Flare and Ryan M. Cheung for the feature! It was truly an honor to have been included!

I Wore: Dress – Ashley Rowe; Belt – OBJECT for Danier Leather; Boots – Aldo; Backpack – Chanel; Bracelet – Expression at The Bay; Ring – YSL

Aldo x Flare “Bish” Shoe Preview

Everyone has that one perfect pair of shoes that they wish they had in their closet. Be it a sublime stiletto pump, or a chunky flat platform, finding a perfect shoe can be quite challenging. Not so for Liz Cabral. The uber-stylish Fashion Director of Flare Magazine partnered up with Aldo Shoes for one kick-ass Canadian collaboration – her very own perfect pair of summer shoes.

Last Wednesday, I was very lucky to be one of the first few to actually look at their labour of love up close and personal, as well as try them on, and…gasp…buy them before they hit the shelves the next day! Did I jump at the chance? You bet your Loubies I did!

Aesthetically, the Aldo x Flare style“takes spring’s hottest trends in stride. With naturally sexy python, the sleekest wedge and a flash of fluoro orange, it’s a brilliantly of-the-now shoe for style whizzes like you!” And though I was really digging the high-impact citrus hue, and the python detailing, it’s the comfort factor that really sold me on it. The “Bish” shoe is super lightweight, while the leather cords provide enough support to avoid the foot from slipping and sliding, without cutting into my skin – perfect for the office, and power-lunch-shopping.

Another cool thing about the collab is that it’s available in very limited quantities. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that we’ll be seeing quite a few shoe-offs in Toronto this summer.

I am really loving these Canadian collabs, be it Aldo x Flare, or Aldo x Greta Constantine (which sadly weren’t mass-produced), or Danier x Mark Fast – here’s hoping to see many more!

Will you be buying the very first Aldo x Flare shoe? Or are you holding out for another collab? Share in the comments.

Sasha Pivovarova for H&M Magazine Fall 2010

I went to H&M the other day (no surprise there), and picked up my copy of H&M Magazine. Truth be told, I do think that H&M Mag is oftentimes better than some “real” magazines out there – the stories are interesting, the clothes are affordable and accessible, and editorials, like this one with Sasha Pivovarova, are inspiring and super wearable. I want to copy almost every single look in this spread, and it isn’t difficult, since most pieces are already in my closet.

Friday Faux Pas: Vogue Italia’s Oily Editorial

Really, Steve Meisel? Really now? Models covered in fake oil, spitting out feathers, while wearing expensive couture? Is that supposed to be shocking, or is it mostly tasteless? I lean towards the second. Are we really supposed to look at this photoshoot and admire the beautiful oil-stained clothes? Are we supposed to glamorize oil slicked hair and feathers galore? Am I not getting something?

While the oil is still gushing into the Gulf, tone deaf editorials as this Vogue Italia spread make me really question whether some people would do just about anything to attract some attention. And though this oily shoot is nothing much but slime, I guess if any press is good press, I think their mission is accomplished.

What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh? Is this not insensitive, but creative? Let me know in the comments.

Wednesday Candy: Ken

No, I don’t find Ken attractive. But this Esquire UK editorial, featuring Barbie’s long-time boyfriend definitely put a smile on my face! He totally killed it (in a good way) in Toy Story 3. Every time he appeared on-screen, the audience collapsed in a fit of giggles. So I am very happy that Ken is finally getting his time in the spotlight.

Wearing clothes from Prada, Burberry Prorsum, Paul Smith, and Gucci, Ken’s makeover sure works for me. But his posing, well, let’s just say that he should stop taking modeling tips from Renée Zellweger and Vicky Beckham, if he wants to pull off looking less plastic.

Magnificent Obsession

I am obsessed with this July US Vogue editorial by Peter Lindbergh. Magnificently obsessed. Seeing photos of Natalia and Ewan play house, going from adoring love to cheating, stealing, and leaving, made my heart jump and hurt a little. For Ewan’s character, of course. Aside from the obvious question of “Who would EVER leave Ewan McGregor, if they were lucky enough to have him???”, this editorial is perfection – which is a rarity for US Vogue as of late.

At first, I didn’t want to post Ewan-less photos, but since they are important to the story, I am leaving them in. The funny thing about these, is that the feelings I felt as a teenage girl in love with NSync/BSB/fill-in-the-blank-actor, came back with a vengeance, and here I am, staring at these photos…feeling the same butterflies in the pit of my stomach at a simple sight of a smiling, frowning, drinking his sorrows away Ewan. I saw him at TIFF last year…pretty close too, and yes, he is quite handsome. Very handsome, actually. Short, but oh-so-handsome…and his accent, it just slays me every time.

Anyway, here’s the US Vogue July 2010 editorial, appropriately named “Magnificent Obsession”, featuring #1 on my Freebie Five – Ewan McGregor, with Natalia Vodianova, in a role of his wife. Now, leave me alone, while I day-dream about my own love affair with Mr. McGregor, sans the cheating and stealing, plus lots of kissing and groping. Hope you’re having a great Friday! I know, I am.

Happy (Belated) Cinco De Mayo!

What better time to share one of my favorite Daria as La Doña photoshoots than on Cinco de Mayo? I’m not Mexican, but in Texas, where I lived for a few years, Cinco de Mayo is pretty big – and to celebrate, I’ll be having a Mexican food-fest! The weather is spectacular, so a couple of Coronas will go nicely with my meal! Hope you’re enjoying your day, lovelies!

PS. This was supposed to go up yesterday, but due to glitchy schedule-thinga-majig, I’m posting it a bit late…better tarde than nunca, no?

Elle Spain’s Disney Designers

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Karl Lagerfeld fell into some well (ala Enchanted) only to end up in a Disney-animated world? Well, Elle Spain certainly has given it some thought, and the results, I must admit, are pretty cool! Can totally see Donatella as a duck, it’s completely spot on! But then again, most of the designers in the spread are ducks (with the exception of Karl, and D&G). Were the folks at Elle Spain too scared to paint someone as a pig, a cow, or…gasp…an elephant in their April 2010 issue? I would guess so. I, for one, would never want to taste someone like Karl’s wrath! No, thanks!

I think these cartoons are pretty amazing! Do you? Sound off in the comments!

Speaking of Karl. He shot Lara Stone and Baptiste Giabiconi for an editorial in Numéro magazine. The dress below is so gorgeous, it’s making me want to do bad things to my savings account. My Style Fille favorite Diane Kruger wore the Versace Atelier dress while promoting The Inglourious Basterds back in August…Ahh…to be styled by Lagerfeld…ultimate, no? Forever 21 Magazine

F21MagazineCover

It’s a slow day today. As in I am slow today. I think it’s the Monday blahs, which means I’ll be eating Reese’s cereal out of a box, while doodling on my Christmas shopping list. Yeah, not very productive. Was reading my new book this weekend – “Nightlight”, a “Twilight” parody. So far, it feels like my brain is slowly melting with every word I read. Not good. Is this how the real “Twilight” books are? Can’t imagine ever finishing all of those thick volumes, if they too have such crap writing. Will pick up the “Lovely Bones” after this one. Though might chicken out again, I’ve heard it’s oh-so very sad. Don’t want sad, want inspirational.

Speaking of publishing, Forever21 is getting its own magazine! In about a week or so, we’ll be able to read our first Forever21 publication – a seasonal magazine, focusing on trends, styling tips, and of course Forever21’s clothes and collaborations. The issue will be free with a $40 purchase, and will also be available online. Can’t wait to see what they cook up!

Gaga for Cameron

3d1fb_cameron-diaz-marie-claire-july-2009-cover-photo

Ever since “There’s something about Mary”, Cameron Diaz has been a permanent fixture on my fave actresses list. She became a full-blown girl crush after I watched her do the cutest backwards bootie dance in her Spiderman undies in “Charlie’s Angels”…Our shared love for silly underwear, coupled with my affinity for turquoise jewelry, which Cameron also seems to wear a lot, along with boundless positive energy that seems to radiate from her smile, I always felt that we would become insta-friends if we’d ever met. Although I’d probably geek out and ask her for a photo…just like with Gael Garcia…Not cool at all!
