Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 Ad Campaign

I don’t know about you, but Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2012 ad campaign, shot by Steven Meisel, and starring Daria Strokous and Kati Nescher has me coveting everything. Those intricate eyelet lace dresses, the pointy silver pumps, the chic suiting – it’s all so feminine, and has me day-dreaming of macarons, marshmallows, and Paris.

Or perhaps it’s the candy-garnished milk shakes that have me drooling. Either way…sign me up!

One more after the jump!

Style Fille: Winter White

Today I give you not one, not two, but three Style Filles! From SJP’s snowflake-inspired feathered Louis Vuitton number, to Alexa Chung’s Christopher Kane sparkler, to Cate (The Great) Blanchett’s see-through, yet classy Louis Vuitton frock, I am seriously loving this White After Labour Day trend! Don’t you?

And since I am seriously biased towards those kitschy-yet-cute Charlotte Olympia Kitty heels that Alexa is sporting, I will let you decide which star looked best in winter white. Take the poll below, and cast your vote!

Valentine’s Day: Gift Guide For Her

Valentine’s Day is less than 2 weeks away, and I am still stuck on le boyfriend’s gift! What to get for a man that has (seemingly) everything? Well, that’s my problem to solve (unless you have some helpful advice). And though I won’t likely be doing a men’s gift guide this year, here are a few gift ideas for the guys that might also be struggling with what to buy for their beloved (obsessed with that word).

I am always happy to get a perfume for any occasion, and if you know your girlfriend well-enough, a sexy fragrance might just be what the doctor ordered! My current faves are below.

1. Coach Poppy Perfume ($60)
Recently launched, Poppy is simply lovely, with notes of jasmine, gardenia, cucumber, and rose petals. I got a chance to try it for myself, and I must admit that I really liked it! It’s light and fresh…and simply amazing!
2. Calvin Klein BEAUTY Perfume ($89-$115)
I’ve said so much about BEAUTY already. Read all about it here to decide whether your girlfriend might love it, or check out a tester at the mall.
3. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb ($105-$185)
This is the one I use right now. The fragrance is sweet and feminine, the bottle is all glitter and glamour – the best of both worlds!

If perfume is not your (or your girl’s) thing, a few other gifts might sweeten her day.

4. Danier Red Clutch/Wallet ($39 on sale)
Perfect for a romantic dinner out, this leather clutch will hold all of her essentials and spice up her outfit.
5. Louis Vuitton Heart Coin Purse ($455)
Penny-pinching has never been so stylish! Also comes in a showstopping leopard print!
6. Banana Republic Bracelet ($50)
Don’t buy her earrings or a cocktail ring for Valentine’s Day, lest she confuse the small box with an engagement ring! That one might create some awkwardness. Get her a bracelet or a necklace instead. Banana Republic has a really lovely selection (at amazing prices).
7. Locher’s Necklace ($53-$71)
Speaking of necklaces, I’ve been a Locher’s fan for years! The designs are cute and sassy. And if your girl has a sense of humour, I guarantee that she will love it!
8. Heart-shaped Macarons ($4 each)
They are macarons, shaped as hearts. Go get ‘em NOW at my fave MoRoCo Chocolat.
9. Your Love (priceless)
If all else fails, a simple I LOVE YOU should do. Adding “just the way you are” at the end will earn you some brownie points. It is a day to celebrate your love, after all…not some materialistic holiday, masterminded by Hallmark to bilk you out of millions of dollars!!!
10. A Card
Even though I said that thing about Hallmark, most of us (ladies) would still like a card. So make sure to get her one (Papyrus  cards are amazing)! The one I got for le boyfriend this year kicks ass!

So this little post might or might not have been helpful in your search for a perfect Valentine’s Day gift. If it wasn’t very helpful, I am sorry…email me for more genius ideas. Happy Shopping!

Smirnoff Graphic Party

A few weeks ago, I had received a mysterious comic-strip invitation to a Smirnoff-sponsored party. Intrigued, le boyfriend and I made our way to Corktown to find a huge lineup of people waiting to get in – so much for being fashionably late. After signing our lives (and rights to our images) away, we made our way down the red carpet, lined with hotties in red dresses and into the art gallery/party room for the night.

Right off the bat, we were given smokin’ (literally) Smirnoff cocktails – don’t really know the name, but it freaked me out a bit. After a bit of wandering, we stumbled upon a photo booth of sorts, where a graphic artist did live drawings on a computer, which were then projected on a wall as a background for photos. We took a couple of pictures and headed out to the rooftop patio. Thankfully, we arrived early, and a few lounge chairs were still empty.

We settled in on one of the cozy divans, Smirnoff in one hand, my head on le boyfriend’s shoulder, and watched the crowd, as the patio grew louder and louder with throngs of bloggers, personalities, designers, and other party people. After a long day at the office, surprisingly, being at one of the hottest parties in town was also quite relaxing. The continuous buzzing of the crowd, starry sky above us, and an intoxicating feeling of alcohol flowing through my veins – or was it love? Wish I took more photos of the night…there were definitely some stylish attendees there, but I guess sometimes a gal’s just got to put away her camera, kick up her heels and enjoy the night.

What I Wore: Granny in the City

I should’ve reconsidered the hair, after putting this dress on. But since I was too lazy to blow dry it the night before, my head was a curly, frizzy mess…hence the braided up-do. Couple the hair with the vintage-looking granny dress, and you have my Casual Friday outfit.

Still in love with the H&M shoes, as you see. They are impressively comfy for being 10 bajillion feet high. Now if only I could say the same about my other high heels…ouch. I am still on a lookout for a comfy pair of black heels. A pair that would go with everything, and would allow me to spend hours upon hours strolling the cobblestone streets of…an undisclosed location. Have tried a few pairs on, but without any luck. Any suggestions?

PS. I swear, I ironed the dress before wearing it! That’s just what happens to linen after a day in an office chair.

Wednesday Candy: Zinedine Zidane for Louis Vuitton

Since my favorite team since 1998 decided to self-destruct and subsequently crash and burn on the way out of the World Cup 2010, without winning a single game, I definitely needed something to cheer me up. And the new Louis Vuitton “Core Values” campaign helps ease the pain a bit.

Featured in the campaign are the “holy trinity” of soccer football: Pelé, Maradona, and surprisingly (even for me) Zidane, photographed by Annie Leibovitz. As an avid Zizou lover, I couldn’t help but smile at these images of the beloved and legendary French midfielder. It’s great to see him in the spotlight again, because the French team without Zinedine Zidane is…well, like a herd of sheep without a shephard…who just got eaten by the wolves for their own stupidity (who doesn’t train before an important game???).

So here are the photos of the three greatest footballers in the world – ever, starring in the latest Louis Vuitton campaign. And might I add that Zidane is still looking smoking hot, smiling, and enjoying life, knowing that he retired at the right time, and that he doesn’t have to endure the PR nightmare that is the French team at this time. Good for him.

What I Wore: TFC

2010 FIFA World Cup begins in less than 2 days, and though it doesn’t feel like it in Canada, the rest of the world is going crazy with anticipation. And while watching MLS teams is definitely not as exciting as cheering for Team Spain for example, plenty of Torontonians love TFC enough to spend their afternoons at the BMO field.

Actually, it never fails to surprise me how packed the BMO field gets. It’s like a human sea of red, white, and grey…stomping their feet to the “TOR-ONT-OOOO TFC” and “Danny Dichio” chants, chugging their beer, and throwing streamers at the opposing team. Actually, beer and hot-dogs are one of my main attractions, be it TFC, Maple Leafs, or Blue Jays. I’ll go, as long as you promise me some beer and a hot-dog…mmm…such a perfect combination, especially at a testosterone-filled stadium.

Anyway, I wore The Rolling Stones tank with some shorts – it was so hot out! I added a blazer on top for a touch of grey, and, of course, the official TFC scarf. Perfect outfit for an afternoon of yelling at the top of my lungs, enjoying the sun, and cheering for Toronto’s own soccer team. What can be better?

What I Wore: Shorts, Tank, Sunglasses - H&M; Blazer – Zara; Bag – Louis Vuitton; Panda Ring – Forever21; Scarf – Toronto FC; Le boyfriend’s “Mustache” t-shirt – H&M

What I Wore: Waking Up in Vegas

More like “Gardening in Vegas”. Because I am wearing H&M’s Garden Collection in Vegas! See what I did there? Get it? Ok, I am done cracking myself up, and myself only. Forgive the bad jokes and the puffy eyes, it was a long weekend, and not very restful. But on the other hand, le boyfriend seemed to enjoy his pre-birthday gift of Vegas, poker, and good food (Wynn’s champagne buffet brunch is almost life-altering…almost) – great success! I wore the red dress to an adult Cirque show called Zumanity at New York New York hotel. We stayed at TI, on the other side of the strip, and somehow decided to WALK over to NYNY…not a smart idea. My feet are now mangled. And I think I pulled something in my ankle, because wearing heels has been enormously painful these two days. The things we do for fashion.

The other two dresses were worn out and about (multicolor) and to dinner at Botero (blue dress). Botero was another revelation to me. One of the best steaks of my life (I LOVE steak), and original Botero art all around us – I think I might do a Foodie post later on. If you’re in Vegas, absolutely try Botero – it’s everything a good steak place should be.

I am back in rainy Toronto now, and still wish I was waking up in Vegas this week. It’s like Disneyland for adults, anything you ever wanted, and Chanel on every corner, like Starbucks. Dreamland. I am catching up on LG Fashion week entries, so stay tuned for more coverage. Skin MD contest ends this Friday, so don’t forget to enter!

I Wore: Dresses, Brown Belt, Brown Shoes, Ring – H&M;  Cardigan, Black Belt – Zara; Panda Ring – Forever 21; Black Shoes – Aldo; Purse – Louis Vuitton

Miss J. Alexander Celebrity Walk Off at Holt Renfrew

What did I do last Saturday, when it rained buckets outside? Why, I WERKed it with Miss J. Alexander! Ok, I didn’t actually WERK it with him, but I sure did get a chance to meet his fabulous self and snap up his new book “Follow the Model”. Holts’ “Celebrity Walk Off Event” drew a sizable and fashionable crowd, including Anita of I Want-I Got, Amy Verner of Globe and Mail, and MTV’s Dan Levy among others.

Al and I got a chance to eat some cotton candy, chat with some women that seemed to worship the ground Miss J struts on, and of course, meet the one and only. Another highlight of my day was actually meeting Amy Verner in person. She’s gorgeous, and very lovely! I, also, spotted many stylish peeps, whose photos you can see below. All in all, it was a fun event, and worth the wait. My only gripe is that I missed the actual walk off, hence no photos. But I am sure everyone did fantastic…or as Miss Verner put it, at least noone became “fashion roadkill” ala Sex and the City.

Of course those glasses are Chanel. Why do I even bother to ask. What a great outfit!

Friday Faux Pas: Louis Vuitton Trash Bag Purse

So, the ridiculous just keeps on giving this week. If you still haven’t gotten a gift for your loved one, this trash bag Louis Vuitton “Raindrop Besace” would make a perfect gift! And if you thought the Chanel “Easter Basket” purse was a tad overpriced, this one will only set you back a “measly” $1960.

Seriously, do designers just think that if they release anything as limited edition, people will be dumb enough to buy it? And come on…$1960 for a plastic bag? No, thanks. Which celeb will be the first to wear this? I say…Paris Hilton?

What I’m Wearing: Check Yourself

Ok, so my love for all things striped is still going on…and on…and on. Went to Yorkdale the other day, and almost bought two more striped things (a dress and a top). When will this madness stop? But the truth of the matter is…I feel comfortable and chic wearing Breton stripes…and that’s that. Stole my mom’s Ralph Lauren scarf…it is just soo comfy and warm! She won’t let me keep it, so I have to “borrow” it occasionally when she doesn’t wear it. Still loving my Aldo boots. Yeah, the heels are super high, but these are still the comfiest boots I own.

Oh, and I am also wearing my new Urban Outfitters “Texas” necklace!!! First spotted it at Buffalo’s Walden Galleria, regretted not buying it…tried to find it in Houston (without much luck), and finally got my paws on it in Toronto! You can’t see it here…but I’ll post a pic soon! Love it so much!

Hermès, McQueen, and G-Star…Oh, My!

Spring 2010 ads have been steadily pouring in for over a month now, and in the midst of even mild winter, here in Toronto, it’s quite nice to look at the beautiful Spring collections and dream of what’s ahead! Karlie Kloss’ stint for Hermès is one of my favorites – those scarves, that hair, the locale. Such a dreamy paradise shot!

And then there’s Raquel Zimmermann for Alexander McQueen. What a brave girl! The collection, which was full of reptile prints on the runway, translates quite well into the printed ads, featuring the slithery, yet beautiful creatures, and of course, Raquel wrapped up in their cold-blooded embrace. Now that’s what I call professionalism. Because if those snakes were slithering anywhere near me…don’t even want to imagine! Though I must admit, the McQueen ad is definitely one of the more eye-catching and stunning photographs I’ve seen lately!

Which one of the Spring ads is your favorite?

What I’m Wearing: Black and White and Words All Over

I don’t think I was supposed to wear this dress to work, but thanks to the lenient office environment, I was able to pull it off without raising too many eyebrows. Have been very much into the monochromatic looks lately. Greys, whites, blacks are my friends…Maybe it’s the Toronto weather? Spring collections bring a promise of some color and fun shapes…and much needed warmth. Just in case you were wondering, I wore boots with the dress and leggings originally, but switched to pumps indoors. I am not crazy enough to walk around boots-less in the winter!

I’m Wearing: Dress – H&M; Shoes – Nine West; Blazer – Zara; Purse – Louis Vuitton; Necklace – Forever 21; Gloves – Winners; Leggings – TNA

Not Another Fat Model

larastonelv2

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve gained some (20lbs) weight recently, but it really irks me when people throw around the “F” word (as in fat) at girls that are size 4 at the most. First Gemma Ward, and now Lara Stone? Lara’s story is in January’s Vogue, and gives us a rare glimpse into the not-so-pretty side of modeling.

Still, it’s not easy being a four in a land of zeros. We don’t tend to talk much about models’ inner lives. It seems enough that they are enviably thin, impossibly beautiful, and paid gobs of money to stand around in gorgeous clothes, but it can be hard on a young girl’s psyche to constantly hear how different you are. “It’s depressing when the clothes don’t fit and you are always the odd one out,” says Stone. Wearing black Azzedine Alaïa boots, a Balenciaga miniskirt, and a Chanel necklace, Stone looks every inch a supermodel at the peak of her career, but her size remains an issue. “I was on a shoot just last week,” she says. “And the stylist took out this tight corset dress and said, ‘Here, put it on,’ and I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ There was no way, so that was very rude of her. It’s like, come on, she’s a woman; whether you’re buying jeans at the mall or wearing couture, you know what it’s like for clothes not to fit. It’s not an easy kind of rejection, because it’s very personal. It’s you, your body. You take it to heart.”

Here’s hoping that more designers and stylists will take note of Lara Stone’s phenomenal success, and ensure that the girls that are walking down their runways and starring in their ads are not only beautiful, but also healthy. Though that might take a while.
