Wishlist: Dior Rings

“I want Lanvin, not diamonds” – said the pouty-mouthed Natasha Poly in the Lanvin for H&M promo video. Well, now that I do have Lanvin (for H&M), I also want the diamonds. Ok, not the really flashy diamonds – I’m no golddiger – but the super cute ones, adorning these lovely Dior rings. How cute are they??? I know this isn’t news, as these rings have been around for quite some time now, but for some reason I am really loving them right now. Oui Oui, Mon Chéri!

Wishlist: Swarovski Matrioshka Necklace

Last week, I had a chance to attend Swarovski Spring 2011 collection preview, and I was definitely impressed with what I saw. So many beautiful, colorful, lovely pieces – I left coveting more than a few.

But the one item that stood out to me was this fun Matrioshka (Matryoshka) necklace. As a half-Russian myself, I’ve always been a sucker for items that represent my heritage, and this necklace does so in a very cutesy, yet chic way. Sadly, these won’t be available until sometime in February, so until then I’ll be dreaming of a crystal-studded Matrioshka doll necklace.

Wishlist: Disney Couture Tinkerbell Egg Ring

Call me childish, but I simply adore this Disney Couture Tinkerbell Egg Ring from Fred Flare! It’s both fun and elegant, with a pink mother-of pearl inlay dome, that opens up to reveal 2 fresh water pearls and a blue enamel egg. Plus, I could hide things inside the ring…like love letters or snacks…Ok, maybe not snacks, but I’d find use for this extra storage space within the ring. What do you think? Cute or not?

Swarovski Fall 2010 Preview with Avril Graham

I blog for fun. Not for money, or free stuff, or for any other reason but one: I really do enjoy reading and writing about all things stylish, fashionable, and intriguing (to me). Plus, it provides a much needed mental getaway from my daily not-so-glam 9-5 grind. But if there’s one perk of fashion blogging that I particularly enjoy - it’s meeting cool people. Last week, huge thanks to Edelman, Al and I got to meet the gorgeous and friendly (interesting AND interested) Avril Graham – executive fashion and beauty editor for Harper’s Bazaar magazine. And if chatting with an editor of a hugely successful fashion magazine wasn’t enough,  we also got a sneak peek at Swarovski’s Fall/Winter 2010/2011 collection showcased at the Hazelton Hotel in Yorkville.

With the help of some models, Avril walked us through her favorite pieces from the collection, stressing that women should not buy cheap accessories to accessorize an expensive dress, but should opt for affordable, yet well-made alternatives instead. Perhaps, some Swarovski heirlooms? Indeed, I was quite impressed with more than a few pieces showcased: cocktail rings, dangly earrings, crystal-adorned bracelets, and clutches.  Avril, herself, wore a beautiful rainbow crystal Swarovski necklace with her Valentino LBD. The one item that had us all talking was the Karl Lagerfeld designed Atelier cuff (below). The unanimous opinion was “LOVE”…though I must admit, I did have trouble squeezing my not-so-skinny wrist into it, but it was all worth it!

Overall, as with the Atelier launch, I was impressed by the variety of looks, and with Avril’s endorsement of the brand, as well as with Karl’s pieces available for sale in the fall – there’s no better time to check out Swarovski jewelry collection.

Eleven Boutique One Year Anniversary

Last week, eleven Boutique celebrated its one year anniversary in Yorkville. A mix of media and Toronto notables, including designer David Dixon and Wesley Badanjak, gathered to wish the boutique a “Happy Birthday”. And to thank eleven’s loyal shoppers, the anniversary sale is now on, offering 30% – 50% off Regular Priced Merchandise!

eleven Boutique has become a Yorkville destination for Canadian fashion. Marking their one year anniversary, eleven will share in celebration offering 30% – 50% off regular priced merchandise.  This Spring the boutique features treasured Canadian talents including:  LUNDSTRÖM, Pink Tartan, Brandon R Dwyer, Lucian Matis, NADA, Obakki and Joeffer Caoc as well as accessories and jewelry lines from around the world.”

And though, the boutique carries a lot of fab Canadian designers, what really caught my eye was its jewelry selection! I actually got to meet the lovely jewelry designer Shay Lowe, rocking a chunky custom-made necklace, whose line is available at eleven. I also wrote about Kendra Scott a while back, well some of her pieces are also available at eleven – beautiful gold earrings, colorful necklaces! How cool is that? I kept drooling all over her necklaces – they are just so gorgeous! And with so many pieces currently on sale, there’s no better time to pay eleven a visit.

Huge thanks to Brill Communications for the invite!

Wishlist: Chanel Whimsy

If you know me, chances are you know that I like all things red and “heart-y”. I always end up buying quirky pieces that feature red lips, red hearts, fun shapes and prints. Lately, though, I’ve been trying to go for more grown-up jewels – something worth passing down to my kids or grandkids. But, when I saw some of these pieces over at Some Kind of Style, from Chanel Spring 2010 pre-collection and Cruise 09/10, my heart fluttered.

I still don’t know whether I love them enough to make a leap, or if I should stick to grown-up pieces…perhaps these are too fun, and maybe even designed specifically for celebutots like Shiloh and Suri? I don’t know, but they definitely caught my eye, so I thought I’d share them with you!

What do you think? Are these worth the Chanel pricetag or should I forget about it?

Kendra Scott’s jewelry is definitely up my alley…love the boho look of her earrings, and the fact that she often uses my favorite stone – turquoise – in her creations. Well, Kendra’s jewelry no longer has to be hers and hers alone – if you’ve got a creative side, as well as a desire to have something unique and oh-so-very you, then you need to stop looking.

Kendra Scott Jewelry Color Bar was unveiled yesterday, and it features a few beautiful designs that you can customize to your own color preference. You can also save your creations online and share your designs with friends. Fantastic, no? Below is my little creation…gold earrings with smoky quartz, emerald jade, and London blue quartz…so fresh, so lovely and so…me!

Friday Faux Pas: Solange Azagury-Partridge Engagement Rings

I’m a bit torn on this Friday’s Faux Pas. On one hand, I am all for originality and making things your own. So if you are the type of person that likes bones as part of your engagement ring design, or bejeweled lips around that finger, I say go ahead and embrace whatever it is you like, because it is your finger and nobody else’s! Additionally, I’ve been a fan of Solange Azagury-Partridge luxurious and funky designs for a while now, and as it happens, I do love their iconic lip rings. However, as an engagement ring? I can’t really get behind any of these designs (unless you are Solange, of course). Perhaps it’s the traditionalist in me, but I find that “hands” ring creepy, and not at all romantic.

So what say you, fashionable peeps? Are these rings a big resounding HELLZ TO THE NO, or would you say YES if presented with such ring? Can you imagine passing these down to the next generation as an heirloom? Sound off in the comments.

Atelier Swarovski in Toronto

Last week, Al and I were lucky to be invited to the launch of the Spring 2010 Atelier Swarovski collection in Toronto. The exclusive Atelier collection includes pieces designed by “world-renowned and Canadian-raised fashion designer Jason Wu, the talented and acclaimed UK fashion designer Matthew Williamson, footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood and talented jewelry design duo Anthony Nak”, and is available for he first time in Canada at the Bloor Street Gallery store only.

As a huge fan of Matthew Williamson’s psychedelic prints, Jason Wu’s classy dresses, and Kirkwood’s ah-mazing shoes, I was super psyched to see their pieces. But to my surprise (and delight), Anthony Nak’s vintage-inspired art-deco pieces were my favorite of the bunch. The yellow crystals looked like perfect amber doppelgangers, and I could totally see these as something I would pass down to my grandkids. I also loved Nicholas Kirkwood’s simple designs, which is surprising, since he’s known for his footwear, not jewelry. Gold earrings from his collection could dress up any outfit without being too showy or over the top. The same could not be said about Williamson’s designs. His jewelry is not for the shy ones, with huge multicolored geometrical shapes to wear around your neck or on your ears. Not for me, but interesting to look at.

Overall, I walked away liking a few pieces from the collection. As someone who’s never considered Swarovski as a place to shop for jewelry, I’ll be keeping my eye on these new collections, as more than a few pieces were worth a second look. If you love jewelry and are interested in checking out Atelier Swarovski, stop by the Yonge/Bloor location, or go on their official site www.atelierswarovski.com.
