Rewind 2012: A Year in Photos

photo

I have to admit, so far 2013 is kicking my butt. I caught a cold on January 1st, found fraudulent activity on my debit card, and have had pretty bad migraines all week. Hopefully, from here, the only way is up.

But don’t you worry about me! 2012 was pretty sweet, so instead of focusing on the negative, I’ll just look back on some awesome moments from last year, and hope that things turn around soon.

1. The best thing that ever happened to me in 2012. Sorry if it sounds cheesy, but spending time with our friends and family in Italy, and then marrying the love of my life was a dream come true. Truly. Seeing our wedding featured in the pages of Wedding Bells was a cherry on top.

2. In February, I participated in a fun photoshoot with fellow bloggers Gracie and Elizabeth for Holt Renfrew’s blog Holts Muse. Shot by the talented photographer Adam Moco, this was a fun project to be a part of, and definitely started my year off right.

3. Had I ever dreamt that one day I’d have a byline in FLARE MAGAZINE?! Nope. But that’s exactly what happened in 2012. Granted, it was for Flare’s website, but I was simply thrilled to write my 9 Unique Ideas for Wedding Day Style story in April. Flare also showed Style Blog some love in their Flare Magazine’s Wear CanadaBlogger Style: Spring ShoesBack to Work, and Street Style round-ups! What a year!

Featuring bloggers’ favourite Toronto hot spots, this guide is an awesome way to explore the city and visit some of its lesser known attractions.

JACOB-Live-Chic-Blogger-Toronto-City-Guide

A couple of months ago, Canadian retailer JACOB approached me with an exciting project, which I’m finally able to share with you – JACOB’S Live Chic Guide to Toronto!

In this city guide Anita, Sharon, Stefania, Sarah, and I share our favorite places to eat, hang out, and shop, and whether you’re a visitor or a local, this guide will be sure to introduce you to some hidden Toronto gems. What I loved most about this guide is how different our fave spots are. And we didn’t even have to coordinate! I also love the way this guide looks…tres chic, non?

On my list of must-visit Toronto places are Barque Smokehouse in Roncesvalles, High Park, and Tom’s Dairy Freeze – places I visit weekly each summer, and slightly less often the rest of the year. If you’d like to read up on these, as well as my fellow bloggers’ top picks, please head on over to JACOB’s website, and explore the Toronto we know and love!

What I Wore: Copycat

charlotte-olympia-jacob

Last Sunday, le bf and I took our amazing moms out to brunch at La Societe to celebrate Mother’s Day with yummy French Toast and Eggs Benny…because nothing says “I love you” like eggs and Nutella.

To mark the special occasion, I wore a pretty dress, paired with my fave kitty flats. And if my outfit looks strangely familiar to you…it might be due to the fact that I “borrowed” it from the lovely Alexa Chung. Only her dress was Valentino, and mine is from Jacob. That’s right…my outfit is decidedly more affordable AND (partially) Canadian. I mean, come on…I win, right? Right? Tell me I win and I’ll send you a cookie…it may or may not be fully baked and/or burned, but it’s the thought that counts, people!

Jacob Spring 2012 Lookbook

jacob-spring-2012-lookbook-6

Making a mental note to stop by the nearest Jacob store to check out their spring arrivals, because from what I’ve seen so far – I like! Seriously, how gorgeous is that floral dress (above)?! Just imagine how fresh you’ll look at the office this spring…I’m imagining that right now. And that black and white Chanel-esque cuff? Need it!

If like me, you have been to Jacob in a while, I think it’s time to pay them a visit. Dibs on all the pretty dresses!

What I Wore: Tweed and Snakeskin

Finally got to take a photo of my new obsession – no, not the Joe Fresh snakeskin shirt (even though I do looove it). My new obsession is this simple, classic, and (me thinks) flattering tweed skirt from JACOB. It fits like a dream, looks great at the office, but doesn’t make me feel like I should be picking up my kids from soccer practice. You know what I mean? It’s still youthful, and work-appropriate…and I oh-so-love it!

Speaking of JACOB! In case you didn’t know, the store is having a Christmas Stocking Promotion! There are $290,000 in instant prizes (stuff like a wardrobe full of JACOB clothes, valued at $10,000!)  to be won at check-out at any store – all you have to do is print out a Christmas stocking from their site.

And if that wasn’t enough of an incentive, for each stocking brought in store, JACOB will donate $1 to Goodwill and Renaissance, non-profit organizations whose mission is to facilitate the social and occupational reintegration of women experiencing difficulties. For an additional chance to win a $10,000 wardrobe, all you have to do is share it with some friends. Sharing is caring, right? You can enter here: http://surprisesjacob.ca. And if you end up winning, don’t forget to share the love!

I Wore: Shirt – Joe Fresh; Skirt – Jacob; Necklace – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Bag – Prada

What I Wore: Indian Summer

I loved every minute of this Thanksgiving weekend! Sunshine, ice-cream, patio-ing, strolling the streets of Kensington market, wearing shades, dress and sandals…in OCTOBER! So many things to be thankful for. I couldn’t believe my luck, but I could definitely get used to this. 99H9F4K4GMKK

How was your weekend?

I Wore: Dress – Jacob; Shoes – Marc (Imelda); Backpack – Chanel; Necklace – c/o Caroline Neron; Ring: YSL; Bracelet – Expression at The Bay; Headband – H&M; Sunglasses – Ray Ban

What I Wore: Are We There Yet?

WARNING: Rant ahead

I am getting serious now! Are we there yet? When will winter be gone already? I am so tired…sooo tired of the cold! I just want some warmth on my face, and for my skin to stop being blue! Seriously, my hands look like they belong to a smurf!

I’m also getting super sick of my parka…I’m thinking of organizing a “BURN, WINTER, BURN” event, where we all throw our parkas into the bonfire, dance around it, while laughing maniacally. Any takers? Anyone? So last weekend, instead of donning the usual…I wore the usual with a lighter coat on top! One small step for me, one giant leap closer to spring…or something.

Rant over.

How are you dealing with winter blues, people? Share some get-happy tips soon, or I might just curl up in a ball and cry for the rest of the winter days.

I Wore: Coat – Old Navy (courtesy of Old Navy); Top – Jacob; Shorts – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Ring – YSL; Bag – Prada; Belt – Nine West (The Bay); Scarf – H&M; Earrings – Chanel

What I Wore: Man Repeller

I’m sure, unless you’ve been under a rock for the last few months, you must’ve heard about Man Repeller. Her hillarious blog has been making the rounds, and has become a staple “read” for many around the blogosphere. I like it, because it’s pretty much universally true: women don’t dress for men, women, especially the ones obsessed with fashion, tend to dress for themselves, as well as for other women. Men would never understand the appeal of the lovely lace-up grandma oxfords, yet still women wear them in droves.

So today’s outfit (yesterday’s really) was inspired by Man Repeller, and includes such repelling items as pleated leather shorts. I repeat – pleated leather shorts. Not the tight ones that make the men go “whoop-whoop”, but the pleated ones, that could potentially cause some bulging and end up looking like a diaper. I also wore my new Moschino belt, that I picked up at The Room last week, which le boyfriend not-even-jokingly calls a “wrestling belt”. To up the repel-factor, I paired the shorts with a pair of oatmeal-colored H&M tights, fit for a 10-year old, and topped it all off with a semi-floppy hat.

No man would be enticed by this outfit, and yet, I proudly (and lovingly) wore it all day, getting compliments aplenty from the ladies, and some pretty strange looks from the men.

What’s your take on man repelling? Would you rather “cut off your arms” than wear something that repels or do you not give a crap? Dish in the comments!

What I Wore: Leather Shorts – Danier; Sweater – Jacob; Hat, Tights – H&M; Tank Top – Forever21; Belt – Moschino
