Well, not in my place or your place, but in Toronto! The famed photographer and illustrator Todd Selby visited our lovely (if slightly G20 handicapped) city to promote his new book “The Selby is in Your Place”. Holt Renfrew held the Toronto launch of his book at Parts & Labour restaurant in Parkdale, while fans got a chance to meet him at the Bloor St. Holt Renfrew book signing the next day.
If you still don’t know who Todd Selby is (have you been living under a rock?), check out his website. It’s chock-full of great and quirky decorating ideas, that you can steal from the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Lou Doillon, and Inès de la Fressange, and many stylish others.

Browsing at Holts yesterday led to an unexpectedly cute discovery – this Alice + Olivia White Cutout Dress! At just over $300, I am really contemplating getting it…perhaps I’ll wear it to my birhday dinner or something? I absolutely loooove the back of this dress, but do somewhat wish it was in black or something…of course the contrast would be lost, but it would make going braless so much easier!

What did I do last Saturday, when it rained buckets outside? Why, I WERKed it with Miss J. Alexander! Ok, I didn’t actually WERK it with him, but I sure did get a chance to meet his fabulous self and snap up his new book “Follow the Model”. Holts’ “Celebrity Walk Off Event” drew a sizable and fashionable crowd, including Anita of I Want-I Got, Amy Verner of Globe and Mail, and MTV’s Dan Levy among others.
Al and I got a chance to eat some cotton candy, chat with some women that seemed to worship the ground Miss J struts on, and of course, meet the one and only. Another highlight of my day was actually meeting Amy Verner in person. She’s gorgeous, and very lovely! I, also, spotted many stylish peeps, whose photos you can see below. All in all, it was a fun event, and worth the wait. My only gripe is that I missed the actual walk off, hence no photos. But I am sure everyone did fantastic…or as Miss Verner put it, at least noone became “fashion roadkill” ala Sex and the City.

I’ve been obsessed with denim shorts this winter. Every weekend, I’m putting on a pair of thick tights/leggings and rocking a pair of cutoffs with my fave pair of boots. I also get a feeling, that come Spring, I’ll still be as obsessed with my new-found staple as ever.
Looks like Nicole Richie loves her short shorts too. But the way she wears them…No Daisy Duke/Jessica Simpson in sight, the newly engaged Nicole actually exhudes arty hippie-ness, instead of overt sexuality, and I love it. The Winter Kate crochet vest adds some quirk to an otherwise crisp and conservative white shirt. What’s not to love?

So on my latest Holt Renfrew jaunt, something impossibly adorable caught my eye! A Miss Marc by Marc Jacobs t-shirt, featuring the oftentimes grumpy cartoon character with her boyfriend (?) sitting on a ski lift in full ski gear. Super cute for any fashionable ski/snowboard addict out there, right? But this being Marc by Marc Jacobs, the t-shirt cost $65! Now the question is this…worth it or not so much?
I left the store empty-handed that time, persuaded by my friends that dropping that much money on a cartooney t-shirt (however adorable) was not a smart thing to do. But now, a week later and with a snowboarding trip coming up, I find myself still thinking about my little grumpy Miss Marc. Can’t find an actual photo of that t-shirt, but the photo above should give you an idea. So what say you, lovely readers? Yay or nay?
Update: And here’s the reason why I couldn’t find a photo online for a bit…Mr. and Miss. Marc Ski Lift Tee launched exclusively at Holt Renfrew as the new limited-edition Miss Marc Hearts Canada issue. The Canadian in me says…go get it!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were in Toronto this week to promote their Elizabeth and James Fall 2009 Collection at Holt Renfrew and Much Music. Would’ve been cool to see them in person! Spent the last hour in a crowded Holts’ showroom, waiting to speak to Scott Schuman. The event was poorly organized, but the wait was well worth it. As much as I respect Scott Schuman – the photographer, much has to be said about Scott Schuman – the man. Handsome, funny, patient, stylish, and kind. He didn’t mind the throngs of fans. He answered every question thoroughly and with thought. He laughed with the audience and cracked jokes. He offered words of advice to amateur photographers and bloggers. And he also was very patient. The room was sweltering and most people, who had short lunch breaks, had to dash right after taking a picture or shaking his hand. Yet he had to stay and did not seem to mind it at all.
The paperback copy of his book was also there and it’s much thicker than I imagined! It’s amazing how he remembers every picture that he took for this book, every single subject. He told funny stories about some people that made the cut, sharing that one of the girls only eats Jelly and one of the women actually works at Holts. His words of advice were “be true”, which is what he said to the reporter’s question on what sets his blog apart from others. He is true and it shows.
Loved meeting him so much! We chatted for a bit about his trip to Venice, and how he just shoots and doesn’t care what it is or whether the settings on his cam are right. All that can be taken care of later, he just takes photos of what feels right. He also shared that he brought his girlfriend (the chic Garance Doré) to tears on a Venetian gondola, because he was such a tough subject to photograph. All told as if talking to a group of old friends. Very, very endearing!
Jo and I ran back to our offices with giddy glee. I don’t think I was this happy to meet Gael Garcia Bernal, and I love Gael! Scott will be at the Drake Hotel later tonight. Not sure if I am going to make it to that party; the crowd will probably be insane! Either way, welcome to Toronto, Mr. Schuman! It was truly a pleasure!

Spent the last 20 minutes of my subway ride listening to some pathetic idiot fighting with 15 year olds about same-sex marriage. One of his arguments was “Ellen DeGeneres smells”. Sometimes I wonder, how humans had made it this far.
Thankfully, the rest of my day was by far better than my ride home! First day back at the office, and feeling chirpy and refreshed, even though still super jet lagged. Got a pedicure with Jo after work, spotted a super cute girl in a super cute jacket at the salon (to be posted), had sushi, and…finally saw the new Holt Renfrew windows dedicated to bloggers!
Loved them all! Jo’s faves were the Sea of Shoes (Not! 5-6 pairs does not a sea make!) and Bryan Boy windows. Mine was Garance Doré. One because I love her blog, and two…the window had Eiffel Towers wearing clothes!!! Enough said.
