best-ugly-christmas-sweaters-2014
Guys, it’s that time of year again! The Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Season is upon us! I may or may not have made that up, but truth is…these sweaters aren’t going away any time soon. And why should they? Instead of wearing some dressy whatever to holiday parties this season, why not bust out a fun coversation-starter sweater?! Just like last year, I scoured the web for some seriously awesome ugly (and not-so-ugly) Christmas sweaters, and I even threw in an Ugly Hanukkah Cardigan in there too. Go forth, find the one for you, and rock it with pride this holiday season.

Holidays 2014: Gift Guide

For some reason, this year, I am woefully unprepared for winter’s arrival, but since it’s practically end of November and there’s snow on the ground, I guess it’s time to snap out of my denial and start shopping. Full disclosure: I have yet to buy any presents, but I do have some ideas as to what I’ll be picking up for my loved ones this holiday season. And just in case you’re in the same boat, I thought I’d share some of my fave holiday gift ideas with you.

I glimpsed most of these back in July, during the annual holiday previews, and I have to say that this year in particular, those previews came in super handy. I got to learn about the existence of cool adult onesies, played with the Big Love Ball, and tried on the gorgeous Thomas Sabo infinity ring; I self-medicated with the all-natural Saje Pocket Pharmacy, and sipped on Inniskillin sparkling icewine. In short, I got to preview and test out a lot of the picks below, and I hope that this gift guide gives you some ideas for your holiday shopping this season. If you’re looking for stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and presents for him, her, and the kids, then this is a great place to start! Happy Shopping!

Styled By Nelia: Dressing for the Holidays

IMG_7708

Hi guys! Just wanted to share a fun little project I’ve been working on with Yorkdale Shopping Centre this year! Last month, I filmed the very first web episode of Styled By Nelia – a web series showcasing some of Yorkdale’s finest retailers, and helping solve Yorkdale shoppers’ dilemmas. In the first episode, the lovely Kirsten needed help finding a holiday outfit, and so I offered her my advice. To see Kirsten’s shopping experience, please check out the video below, and if you shop at Yorkdale, be on the lookout for Max Kopanygin and I, we will be filming more of these in the next year! And remember, no matter the shopping dilemma, Yorkdale is (almost always) the answer! Thanks for watching!

Holidays 2013: All I Want For Christmas…

christmas-wishlist

Christmas is officially only one week away and I am getting more and more excited with each passing day. Excited for all the family get-togethers, yummy desserts, holiday movies on the couch, and of course…the presents! This year, gift shopping was a breeze…half of it done online, with the other half swiftly purchased at a couple of select stores in a couple of easy visits. I was even able to grab something special for myself to celebrate yet another year of blogging, working, and keeping it all together. Hooray!

Sadly, le bf wasn’t as lucky. I have to admit, getting a Christmas prezzie for me is kind of a tough task, since I tend to be quite picky and lack any patience, which means that anything I really want (and can afford), I end up getting for myself. So this year, to make his ordeal a little easier, I’m making an official “Dear Santa/Husband” wishlist and calling it a day. Some of these are a little less realistic than others, some are catlady things that I’m pretty sure are on his “banned forever” list, but between the adorable Charlotte Olympia travel kit, and the cutest gummy bear clutches ever, I’m hoping this completely impractical gift guide will get him through this impossible task…and maybe give you (or your man) some ideas too. Happy Shopping!

1. Charlotte Olympia Travel Kit
2. Gucci Disco Bag
3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Rue Cat Sweatshirt
4. Fornasetti Candle
5. Moschino Bucket Bag
6. Kenzo Tiger Sweatshirt
7. Moschino Clutch
8. Charlotte Olympia Gummy Bear Clutch

We are almost at the end of our Style Days of Christmas Giveaways run, and while I don’t play favourites with my giveaways, today’s prize is going to be simply amazing for the holidays! So, what’s in it for you? Today, I’d like one of my amazing readers to win a SELPHY of their own! You can use it as a photobooth printer at your holiday parties (set up is a breeze!), to print photos of those family get-togethers, or simply to make sure that all of your fond memories can be proudly displayed in your home instead of your computer. Thanks to Bridget Jones’s Diary and Marc Darcy’s unfortunate reindeer jumper, ugly Christmas sweater parties have been all the rage for the last few years. Every year I get invited to a slew of bashes where wearing a faux pas is de rigueur, so it’s pretty safe to say that owning at least one ugly Christmas sweater is a must. Style Days of Christmas: Dolce & Gabbana The One Gift Set

dolce-gabbana-the-one-limited-edition-giveaway

I can’t believe we are already on Day 8 of Style Days of Christmas Giveaways! Time really does fly. Today’s amazing prize is a very special limited edition Dolce & Gabbana The One perfume and cologne gift set* (valued at $224) – a perfect luxurious prezzie for a sophisticated lady (and gent) on your shopping list.

With top notes of bergamot, mandarin, lychee, and peach, The One perfume is rich without feeling overbearing, feminine, sensuous, and irresistible. All you need is a little dab, and you won’t be able to stop smelling yourself all day. Recently, I’ve started to move away from the girly fragrances I used to be drawn to in my early twenties, and Dolce & Gabbana The One is now my go-to scent for the fall and winter months.

The One for Men cologne is also very alluring. The scent is powerful and spicy, with hints of cedar and tobacco. It aims to be “not a banal classic, but a classic men’s fragrance that would last for years and be the type of scent that women adore”. From this woman’s POV, this is indeed The One. I love the smell of this cologne, and I am sure the special guy in your life will love it too.

Sounds like something you’d like to see under your Christmas tree? Enter the giveaway below!

style-days-of-christmas-hm-giveaway

My H&M love affair is very well documented on this blog, so I’m not going to write three lengthy paragraphs about a pretty neoprene skirt I bought for a steal, and which made people breathlessly inquire about the designer of said skirt. Perhaps you want to grab the remaining few Isabel Marant for H&M pieces, pick up a cozy sweater or two, or maybe you would like to surprise your man with a cool new coat…tell me what’s on your H&M holiday shopping list, and you will be entered to win a $200 gift card from one of my favourite stores ever (H&M, of course) to make your holiday gift shopping a breeze! Happy Holidays From Canon Blogtography!

canon-blogtography

Sponsored Post

Earlier this month, my fellow Canon Blogtographers and I were treated to a second photo session with fashion photographer Steve Carty, this time learning all about portrait photography. Right in time for the holiday get-togethers, where photos will inevitably get snapped, but not always ones you would want to keep. Steve showed us how to get the winning shot that your family and friends will keep and treasure for years to come!

To learn a bit about portrait photography, our assignment for the evening was to shoot a head-on portrait in black and white, shoot a holiday portrait, a holiday scene at a dinner table, and finally a portrait with very low light. Here’s what I learned about getting THE SHOT!

1. Use Creative Filters

One of the best things I learned about my Canon camera is that I don’t need to use Photoshop to spice up my photos with cool effects. With fun creative filters like Toy Camera, Monochrome, Fish Eye, Soft Focus, Grainy Black and White, which can also be layered, you can take any photo from boring to awesome. When using these Creative Filters in-camera, you don’t have to worry about losing your original image, because your camera will save an edited copy automatically. I used the Grainy Black and White filter on the below photo, and love how it turned out!

canon-blogtography-portrait-session-14

2. Crop It

As I mentioned before, Rule of Thirds is a good one to follow. You can make any photo stand out by simply cropping it to make sure that the eye is drawn to the subject of the photo and not to the background or other random things in the picture. You can achieve this without having to do any post-production work by using various aspect ratios in-camera. If you want your image to be perfect for Instagram, use 1:1, want a standard image – use 4:3, want your photo to look good on a widescreen display – 16:9 is your go-to aspect ratio.
