What I Wore: Exclusive

hm-conscious-exclusive-collection-blue-dress--2014-7

Even I can’t believe that I finally wore a dress without tights! It’s a Christmas miracle, people!!! Just like that, we went from wet snow to 20+ degree weather…from winter to summer in a matter of days. Not one to waste a good opportunity, I decided to take my new H&M Conscious Exclusive dress out for a spin. With its breezy lightweight fabric, and dreamy blue print, this is the most perfect dress for lazy spring days – dressy enough for a romantic dinner with le bf, but casual enough for a neighbourhood gelato run. It’s definitely a current favourite!

The rest of H&M Conscious Exclusive collection is just as good! With stunning boho dresses, elegant jumpsuits, exquisite matador-inspired embroidered pieces, coolest shoes and jewellery, and so much more…this collection is now in stores and should not be missed. But beware, you may not be able to walk away without getting one of everything. Don’t say you haven’t been warned!

Alexander Wang x H&M Collection To Launch in November 2014!

alexander-wang-h&m-collection-coachella-2

Happy Monday, lovelies! And it’s a happy one indeed, because this weekend it was announced that the next H&M designer collaboration will be with none other than Alexander Wang! Launching on November 6, 2014, the Alexander Wang x H&M collection will feature apparel and accessories for men and women and will be available at 250 stores worldwide! The announcement party at Coachella looked like a blast, with celebs like Alexander Skarsgard, Kate Bosworth, Iggy Azalea, Fergie and Katy Perry in attendance.

As the first American designer to ever team up with H&M for a designer collaboration, Alexander Wang says, “I am honoured to be a part of H&M’s designer collaborations. The work with their team is an exciting, fun process. They are very open to pushing boundaries and to setting a platform for creativity. This will be a great way for a wider audience to experience elements of the Alexander Wang brand and lifestyle.”

To me, this collab makes a lot of sense, because of Wang’s cool, youthful aesthetic, which will certainly appeal to the majority of H&M’s clientelle, and I can’t wait to see which direction this collection will take. Here’s hoping for some cool leather bags, fun sunglasses, body-con dresses with strategically-placed cut-outs and draping, and of course some hot heels too!

Are you excited about this collab? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: WMCFW

wmcfw-nelia-belkova-prada-faux-fur-stole

Toronto Fashion Week has come and gone, and while I am incredibly thankful to have been able to attend some amazing shows, witness backstage magic first-hand, and meet so many interesting (and oftentimes talented) people…I have to say that by Day 5, I was wiped out. Even three days of fashion shows combined with my 9-5 was enough to require a weekend of R&R, which is exactly what the doctor prescribed. I’m the doctor, in case you are wondering.

And while I’m still working on my #WMCFW coverage, I thought I’d share my fashion week outfits. From my red ALDO shoes, to my Joe Fresh coordinates, to my fave falconwright clutch, I tried to infuse Canadian and Canadian-made pieces into my outfits for each day of fashion week, as captured by the amazing street style photographers Mauricio Calero and Max Kopanygin. Thanks, boys!

Paris Fashion Week: H&M Studio Fall 2014 Runway Collection

hm-studio-aw-14-fall-2014-runway-collection-show-33

Isn’t it funny that H&M Studio collection has become one of my most highly-anticipated shows of Paris Fashion Week?! Mostly, it’s because I know that whatever the design geniuses from H&M will show on that runway, I’ll be able to afford and thus add to my wardrobe. But also, because the last collection BLEW.MY.EFFING.MIND! So with those high expectations in mind, I livestreamed yesterday’s H&M Studio Fall 2014 runway show, watching the H&M-clad glamazons strutting their stuff at the famed Grand Palais in front of 600 attendees, as the up-and-coming French star HollySiz performed live throughout the show. There was also a quick peek at the star-studded front row, which included one of my favest Style Filles Solange Knowles, mocktress Jessica Alba, models Miranda Kerr and Jourdan Dunn, and a gorgeous DJ Leigh Lezark, most of them wearing the latest pieces from H&M.

The collection itself was a glamorama mix of faux fur, modern suiting, and earth tones, with a sprinkle of sequins and stone embroidery. Mini dresses worn with knee-high boots, faux fur coats over slinky dresses, draped blouses under masculine blazers – it was all very wearable, covetable, and hopefully mostly affordable. This season, my wishlist includes a couple of coats, a few dresses, and possibly a pair of boots…I already have way too many, but if they are as comfy as they are cute, I just know I won’t be able to resist.

So, what do you think about H&M Studio Fall 2014 collection? Are you excited that you’ll be able to afford something from the Paris Fashion Week runway? Share in the comments!

What I Wore: All Grown Up

pink-tartan-python-skirt-aldo-shoes

Whenever someone asks me to describe my style, the word tomboy always comes to mind. I’ve never been a girlie girl, and even though I do love to wear dresses, the way I wear them is never polished and refined, but a little messy and imperfect…and that’s what makes those looks “me”. This time around, however, I found it really hard to look messy in this perfectly ladylike Pink Tartan python print full skirt. The fun colour, paired with the flattering shape is an easy-to-follow recipe for refinement, just like most of Kimberly Newport-Mimran’s pieces. But something about this one in particular called my name. Maybe it’s the age thing…growing up and being drawn to more grown-up pieces, or maybe I just really loved this skirt. Either way, I’ll be wearing this one a lot this spring…topped with my trusty moto jacket. I have to toughen it up somehow!

What I Wore: Is It Spring Yet?

floral-pants-striped-tee-2

I wore this peppy combo last week while filming Styled By Nelia at Yorkdale. After being incredibly bored with the contents of my closet, I reached for an oldie/goodie pair of yellow floral pants and my new “goes with everything” striped tee from Ann Taylor. If there’s such a thing as a perfect spring outfit…this one’s mine. My secret hope is that if I dress like it’s spring, spring will be here sooner. Makes perfect sense to me, so just go with it. Also, you’ll owe me one when it will hit +20 degrees next week thanks to my floral pants. You’re welcome.

What I Wore: Snow Queen

sweater-dress-ann-taylor-15

Sorry for being MIA last week…thanks to the snow/ice storm, my house had no electricity, cable, or internet, giving me a much-needed break from all types of social media and blogging. Instead, I ate pies (Flaky Tart is the bomb!), hung out with family, and slept A LOT. It was awesome, but also challenging. I learned to put on make up under candlelight, and wore a lot of comfy and warm clothes, because getting dressed in the dark isn’t as easy as it sounds and having no heat is no picnic either. Thankfully, I had this cozy Ann Taylor sweater dress to save the day. All I had to do is throw it on over some tights to avoid looking like a shlub with no electricity. Mission accomplished.

Hope you and your loved ones have a warm and safe holiday season! Should be back to regular programming in 2014!

Styled By Nelia: Dressing for the Holidays

IMG_7708

Hi guys! Just wanted to share a fun little project I’ve been working on with Yorkdale Shopping Centre this year! Last month, I filmed the very first web episode of Styled By Nelia – a web series showcasing some of Yorkdale’s finest retailers, and helping solve Yorkdale shoppers’ dilemmas. In the first episode, the lovely Kirsten needed help finding a holiday outfit, and so I offered her my advice. To see Kirsten’s shopping experience, please check out the video below, and if you shop at Yorkdale, be on the lookout for Max Kopanygin and I, we will be filming more of these in the next year! And remember, no matter the shopping dilemma, Yorkdale is (almost always) the answer! Thanks for watching!

What I Wore: #ALDOALIST

aldo-a-list-party-yorkdale-5

Last Sunday, I woke up bright and early and headed to Yorkdale to host a party at ALDO’s Toronto flagship. The store opened earlier than usual, welcoming A-list guests with refreshing orange juice and breakfast brownies (my favourite!), as well as 20% off the entire store! The party was thrown in honour of Noelle, who won a special #ALDOALIST contest from Virgin Radio, and as such, she was ALDO’s celeb for the day – hanging out in her very own VIP booth at the store, and shopping with her besties before the store’s official opening hours. Lucky girl!

But Noelle wasn’t the only lucky winner that day. I was also super pumped to meet Ariel, who won an ALDO shopping spree from this season’s Style Days of Christmas Giveaways. It was so wonderful to do a little shopping with Ariel and see her favourite pieces. With her $200 ALDO gift card, Ariel picked up an elegant bag, a pair of boots, a hat, and some jewelry. Not a bad haul! Not bad at all. And you know what? Seeing Ariel’s and Noelle’s faces light up with excitement made waking up early on a freezing Sunday morning totally worth it.
