Bloomingdales is Coming to Canada?!

Bloomingdales-HBC-The-Bay-Canada

Just read on my bulding’s elevator news that HBC MAY BE BRINGING BLOOMINGDALES TO CANADA!!! See, elevator ads are actually effective!

But seriously, folks. This is excellent news. The Globe and Mail also confirmed that “The move to provide space to Bloomingdale’s as a “store within a store” would represent a pre-emptive strike on the part of HBC chief executive officer Richard Baker, who is aiming to grab a bigger piece of the high-end fashion retail market before other foreign players arrive, industry sources said.”

At this time, The Bay is considering putting Bloomingdale’s shops within its Toronto store on Bloor Street West as well as inside one store in Vancouver and Calgary, according to G&M. Bloomingdale’s could begin rolling out in-store boutiques in Canada as early as the fall of this year! As in…FALL 2012, people! Bloomies. In. Canada.

This is happening. I think. Are you excited about this? Share in the comments!

Holidays 2011: Last Minute Gifts from The Bay

Back in July, I attended The Bay’s Holiday 2011 Preview, showcasing amazing gift ideas for the holidays. Now that the holiday season is actually upon us…and Christmas is but 6 days away, I thought I’d share some last-minute gifts that you can easily pick up at The Bay store near you. From colorful Toy Watches, to Lucia mini soaps, to Polaroid cameras, to all things HBC Signature (coats, doggy sweaters, snowman kits, travel pillows…), you can find a gift for anyone and everyone! Seriously, these beat any gift that you can find at the gas station on Christmas morning. Hands. Down.

As for me…I think I might actually be done! Started a bit late this year, but nevertheless, have managed to pick up prezzies for everyone on my list. Feels good to be done. And if you’re still searching, shopping, and trying not to lose any remaining bits of holiday cheer (and sanity) - I wish you short line-ups, huge discounts, and bundles of patience. You’ll need it.

Wishlist: HBC Canadian Olympic Team Replica Apparel

Earlier this week, HBC unveiled its 2012 Official Canadian Olympic Team replica apparel…and I want it all! Especially the three pieces above: denim jacket with Canadiana patches, the 2012 version of this Cowichan sweater, and of course a pair of red mittens to show my rah-rah patriotic support (and to keep my mitts warm!).

I really can’t get enough of those retro patches. I would seriously wear this jacket all the time! Not to mention every time I travel…which is soon! Ok, I just decided…gotta get this jacket stat, before they are all gone! So much for my spending ban.

Have you had a chance to take a look at The Bay’s selection of Olympicswear yet? If so, what are your fave pieces?

All Canadian

Being Canadian is really de rigueur nowadays. It’s incredible what a little marketing can do. The Vancouver Olympics, of course, have a lot to do with it. But, credit should be given to HBC for really marketing the crap out of their Canadiana apparel. From Wayne Gretzky and Glee guys, to it-girl Rachel Bilson – The Bay clothes are all over celebs and athletes, and are selling out in stores everywhere! Over 3 million pairs of red mittens were sold to date…and still going.

As for this Smythe HBC blanket coat – I do love this coat on Rachel. Such fun colors and so very Canadian. Hmm, perhaps the All-Canadian look will catch on in the rest of the world soon enough? Until then…Go, Canada, go!

Shopping: Like Daughter, Like Mother

So unless you live in Alabama under a rock, you know that Canada is where it’s at! And by it, I mean the Winter Olympics! Go, Canada, Go! And because of that, The Bay and Zellers stores have been selling the official Olympic merchandise, including clothing and accessories. Not of the flag-waving-maple-leaf-wearing kind, I didn’t even pay much attention to the line, until I came back from my little Cuban getaway to discover that my mom had bought something that I liked very much!

Now the thing about my mom and I, is that she tends to steal borrow my clothes all the time, while I usually don’t go exploring in her closet – too conservative for my taste. Well, I’ll certainly be stealing borrowing this sweater from her! The whole reason she even bought this particular one, apart from her affinity for the Canadian flag-waving, was also me. Well, not me, but my shopping habits. All women’s Cowichan sweaters were sold out, and my mom bought a men’s sweater instead! Way to go mom! I am so proud!

And now that the photos of Wayne Gretzky rocking the exact same sweater have resurfaced, I think I’ll be scoring some sweet brownie points by wearing this sweater around le boyfriend. Stylish, patriotic, and Wayne Gretzky has the same one…it’s a win, win, win situation. Don’t you just love those?
