Style Fille: Ginnifer Goodwin vs. Emma Stone

After poring over the numerous People’s Choice Awards (which admittedly I don’t watch) celeb photos, my two fave outfits belonged to Ginnifer Goodwin and Emma Stone. Both looked gorgeous, stylish, with a loud pop of color. But who wore it best? I do realize that the outfits are completely different, but what I want to know is which one is more your steeze? I think I’m team Ginnifer…but I kinda really love both. Take the poll below and let me know what you think.

Holidays 2011: Gift Guide for Him

This year, le boyfriend and I have decided to limit our gift-giving to one present each. So whatever I end up getting him really has to count! Unlike me, he doesn’t get very excited over presents (crazy, I know), so practical is the way to go for him.

Now, I am not saying a $3K coffee machine is necessarily practical, but if you can afford it, this Saeco Xelsis Digital ID SLX 8870 MS is a Lamborghini of coffee makers, complete with fingerprint technology. And it makes the best cappuccinos ever! Perhaps I should’ve put it on my wishlist instead.

What’s on your man’s wishlist this year? Share in the comments.

1. Saeco Coffee Machine ($3,200)

2. Gucci Formal Lace-Up ($640)

3. HBC Collection Burton Snowboard ($795)

4. Official 2012 Team Canada Olympic Apparel (from $15)

5. Beer of the Month Club Membership (from $29.99 per month)

Shopping: Birks Jewelry

We all know what a certain blue blue box has become synonymous for (all together now) – Tiffany! But here in Canada, we have our own blue-box-central – and that’s Birks jewelry stores. Not only do they carry gorgeous engagement rings, wedding bands, and other bling, but as I recently found out, they also collaborate with notable Canadians (ESTY, Joannie Rochette, Jenn Heil) to create unique and timeless pieces.

There were so many pieces at Birks that I found myself coveting, and though many of them are out of my current budget, I thought I’d share them with you anyway!

At first glance, Birks Blue Collection’s engagement rings, though gorgeous, didn’t look much different from the rest. But if you take a closer look, you’ll notice tiny diamond-cut saphires embedded in each piece. Something blue on your wedding day? Birks has you covered!

Birks Needlefish Collection by ESTY is full of beautiful modern pieces, “capturing the very essence of sea life”, much like the Birks Seaside Collection. Those starfish earrings are totally going on my wishlist!

Aside from their signature collections, the company also sells vintage pieces, like the most adorable leopard brooch, and the decadent lapis lazulis and freshwater pearl bracelets above. They will cost you a small fortune, but if you’ve got the money to spend - you’ll be sure that your purchase is a unique piece of art with plenty of history behind it (and cute to boot).

If vintage is not your steeze, I am sure we can all agree that those Gucci bamboo drop earrings are to die for! Oh, and there’s a matching bracelet available too.

So what do you think about Birks’ selection? Share in the comments.

Shopping: Apartment 909

Apartment 909
909 Dundas St. West
Toronto, ON
416-916-7599

Not only can Dundas St. West brag about a few of Toronto’s best brunch places (see Hoof Café and Saving Grace), but as it turns out the shopping isn’t that bad either. Apartment 909 is a little vintage shop at 909 Dundas St. West, full of very nice surprises! From mint-condition vintage Dior and Gucci bags, to beautiful Lanvin dresses, the lovely shop-owner Beth is happy to show you the treasures she has in store. Prices are very reasonable. I mean, very very reasonable. Where else can you get a genuine crocodile skin Pierre Cardin clutch for around $300? Or that same Dior purse for under $200? For the condition those goodies are in, and for the selection Apartment 909 carries, it is very well worth a trip.

Some of the brands available at the store include (but are not limited to) Vivienne Westwood, Ungaro, Lanvin, Chanel, Pucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Helmut Lang, J.P.G., Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. On my last visit, I picked up a pair of dead stock Marc by Marc Jacobs red jelly shoes. Perfect size, perfect fit, never been worn, and so very lovely. I would’ve been crazy not to jump on those! And there are so many other gems in that store, like an entire wall of vintage ladylike purses, and bundles of beautiful printed scarves.

So next time you’re in the area, having delicious brunch, make sure to stop by Apartment 909, and check out their amazing selection. Make sure to bring some cash, as credit and debit cards are not accepted. And if you do stumble upon a lovely find, make sure to brag and share some pics with us!

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala 2010: Worst

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala is a ball. It is also a candy-shop-like heaven for the fashion lovers, what with beautiful gowns and crème de la crème of celeb world. But when said celebs pick some disastrous outfits to wear on such an important night, it makes me wonder if they did that to get noticed and to stand out from the crowd.

Well, in Katy Perry’s case, one does not need to wonder. A romantic white dress that lights up in the dark screams for attention…and that necklace is all wrong for the neckline of the dress. In my humble opinion, Katy Perry is the fail of the night.

A few other notables are Vera Farmiga in an ill-fitted baby blue Sophie Theallet for Gap fit for a saloon, Malin Ackerman in a not-so-flattering black-and-white dress, complete with blah hair, Elizabeth Banks in a fashion-forward feathered Gucci number that she overaccessorized bringing it from cool to trying-too-hard territory, and last but not least – Carey Mulligan in Miu Miu – cute dress, wrong occasion (plus the color washes out her pretty face).

What do you think about these dresses? Are they the worst of the night or do you have a soft spot for some of them? Sound off in the comments!

Beautiful Men

Patrick-Dempsey

Nowadays, it’s never surprising to see a celebrity fronting a beauty campaign for a big brand, so obviously I wasn’t shocked to see so many hot celeb guys’ pics at the duty free shop in London. What surprised me, however, is that most of those guys are on my Freebie 5 (or very close runner ups)! Coincidence? I think not! Definitely made my layover much more enjoyable! Have a look at these awesome ads and the gorgeous gentlemen in them. Beautiful, aren’t they?

Anything but running shoes!

My boyfriend’s style isn’t bad. Unlike many guys out there, he actually cares about his clothes and doesn’t just pick stuff off the floor in the morning and pile it on randomly. He likes to look good. He also doesn’t own any off the shoulder boatneck sweaters like some people I know (and thank goodness for that!). So when he told me that he is bringing a pair of running shoes for our trip to Europe, I was a bit taken aback.

After the initial reaction of “YOU ARE WHAAAAAAAAAAAT???”, I could kind of see where he was coming from. The pair of Converse high tops that he usually wears and that I love dearly are not very comfortable and won’t be an ideal choice for long (loooong) walks that we are bound to take (blisters aren’t fun in Canada, can’t imagine they’d be a blast in Europe)…So what now? Am I going to let him look like a typical North American tourist in a t-shirt that reads “I am CANADIAN!”, khaki shorts, thick white athletic socks, and…running shoes??? I might as well sign him up for the Da Vinci Code tour around Paris and be done with it!

Instead, I thought a little showcase of what else is out there in casual footwear might do the trick in preventing him from crossing over to the dark side. In my humble opinion, a simple black sneaker/casual shoe could be just as comfy as “the shoe that will not be named”, and look a thousand times better! Just ask Patrick Dempsey.
