What I Wore: That 70s Show

After years of skinny-jean supremacy, the wide-leg look is making a return for Spring/Summer 2011 season. And as it turns out, change does not always come easy. A couple of weeks ago, I went to Gap to check out a few of their new wide leg trouser styles. And as hard as I tried to get into the 70s groove, I couldn’t help but feel that they were all a bit too wide for my taste. I ended up buying the Curvy style, which believe it or not, I thought were flared in the fitting room!

Obviously, when I took them home, wore them a couple of times, I realized that they really weren’t as wide-legged as I’d imagined. I guess my perception was a tad skewed because of all the skinnies in my closet. Either way, after a taste of (slight) flare again, I’m getting really into it, and will definitely be going back for more. Hopefully, I won’t be such a denim-chicken this time around. So tell me, will you be embracing the 70s trend this spring? Or will you be sticking with your skinny jeans for now?

I Wore: Top – H&M; Jeans – Gap; Boots – Zara; Bag – Longchamp; Necklace – Forever21; Ring – YSL

What I Wore: The Fast and the Furryous

Have you seen Get Him to the Greek? If you haven’t, you might be a bit confused…if you have seen it, below is my interpretation of “Furry Walls” by Infant Sorrow (huge fan here).

When the world slips you a Jeffery,
Stroke the furry vest,
Stroke the furry vest,

Furry vests don’t bring me down,
Furry vests please stay around,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

Furry vests kiss me to sleep,
Furry vests please help me read,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

Furry vests can take you on a magic carpet ride,
Furry vests surround you till you got no place to hide,
Let your furry fingers be your guide

Furry vests turn out the light,
Furry vests please stay the night,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

Maybe I’m in heaven with the furry skies above,
All around are furry clouds, look, here’s a furry dove,
Let me stroke your furry vests of love,
Furry vests,
Furry vests

PS. Moral of the story? Furry vests rock!

Holidays 2010: Dear Santa…

Ahh, Christmas-time! The time of “giving and receiving as well as having and sharing”. To be quite honest, I struggled with my list this year…not because I don’t want things, but because, mostly, I feel like whatever I do want, I end up buying for myself (excluding Chanel 2.55). So here’s this year’s Christmas Wishlist of things that I haven’t bought for myself…just yet.

1. Salvatore Ferragamo Flats

Classic, comfy, lovely. Also want the “Miss Vara” belt, as seen here.

2. YSL Wallet

Technically, I am in love with the entire Y-Mail collection, but this beautiful wallet would surely rid me of my winter blues.

3. Charlotte Olympia Shoes

Ok, so this one is more of a “dream” wishlist item, considering the price. But after meeting Charlotte at a recent event, I’m not only in love with the witty Brit, but with her entire Spring 2011 collection.

4. Chanel Wallet on a Chain

Not even sure if this one is available in stores anymore, but I adore its simplicity and versatility. Wallet for the daily grind, and a chic clutch for nights out – all in one cute quilted little package.

5. Lanvin for H&M Dress

I don’t even know why I put this one on my Christmas wishlist, since I already know that I’ll be lining up outside my local H&M bright and early come November 20th. But in case Santa can really hear me…Please, please, please, give me luck (and strength) to get the dresses I want amidst the madness that is sure to ensue.

6. Chanel Earrings

These are vintage, and I’ve been looking for a similar pair in gold for quite some time now. Not an impossible item, but surely is a tough one to get.

7. Pierre Hardy for Gap Shoes

These peep-toe wedges are as amazing-looking, as they are kick-ass. Too bad I can’t find a pair in my size!

8. YSL Ring

Various versions of this ring have been available for a while now, and though at first I was clearly smitten with the one in turquoise, this indigo blue ring is a bit more…glam? Regardless, I love this combo the best!

So far, I only have 8  items on my Christmas wishlist. 2 more to come soon…as soon as I see something shiny that catches my eye!

What’s on your list this year? Any suggestion on the remaining 2? Share in the comments!

Details after the jump!

Gap Spring 2011 Preview

Spring is in the air! Ok, not really…the winter hasn’t even begun yet, but after Spring 2011 fashion shows, and a string of Spring 2011 fashion previews, I am left dreaming about cherry blossoms and open-toe shoes.

Last week, Gap  held its very own Spring 2011preview, and I was immediately smitten. The pretty pastel-colored cotton pants, the ones I’ve been searching for high and low this past spring, are part of the collection and are definitely on my “To Buy” list. Along with the gladiator wedges, that seem absolutely perfect for late spring walks in the park.

The collection itself contained plenty of Gap-y basics, as well as a variety of more fashion-y 70s-inspired flared pants (from khaki to denim), lovely peacoats, some kick-ass camel-colored shorts (also on my list), and pretty blouses.

Other stand outs included the fringed sweater-jacket, and a gorgeous cream-colored airy frock, which I wasn’t able to see at the preview, but noticed in the Spring 2011 lookbook instead.

Spring 2011 collection will be available in stores sometime in January, though I doubt the weather will cooperate accordingly. Sadly…I’m not in Texas anymore.

What I Wore: The Fog

Past weekend, the fog descended upon downtown Toronto, and it felt really weird. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Toronto so gloomy and dark. Perfect weather for Halloween – just one week too early. Spent the entire weekend hiding from the rain: at Buca (so good…SO SO GOOD!), at the movies (Hereafter), with my nephew (aka the most adorable baby ever), at Wal-Mart (shopping for my Halloween party this week), and at various parking garages (aka perfect photo-op location). Finally dusted off my kicking boots, you might see them more often in the coming weeks.

How was your weekend? Have you made the switch from summer to fall in your closet yet? I’m still dreading it…but I have just started. Happy Monday, lovelies!

What I Wore: Unbelt My Heart

These photos were taken a while ago, actually. Back when wearing a jacket wasn’t really necessary, but I did it anyway, because I missed wearing jackets, after an entire jacket-less summer. I got this one from Gap a few years back on sale, and I’ve loved it ever since. Military is, of course, a pretty big trend this fall, but I like this jacket in particular because it fits so damn well, it’s lightweight and comfy, even when I don’t have to wear a jacket. Is that confusing you? Sorry, it’s been a tiring week.

Also, I think this was the first time I ever wore a belt with a jacket. I kinda liked it aesthetically, but it’s the most awkward thing when you have to take off your belt in order to take off your coat inside a sushi restaurant. I mean, it actually felt as if I was taking off my pants, or something. And then, once the belt is off, where do you put it??? Do you just hang it on the back of your chair? Or do what I did, and roll it up in a ball, and stuff it hurriedly into a jacket pocket? I don’t know the rules of jacket+belt wearing, but I do know that perhaps in order to avoid seeming gauche, it’s best to just keep the darned jacket+belt combo on the entire time? What do you think?

What I Wore: Plaid Shirt, Belt – H&M; Long Tank Top – Forever21; Leggings – Aritzia; Boots – Zara; Jacket – Gap; Bag – Prada; Sunglasses – Ray Ban

What I Wore: Firenze

As happy as I was to return home after my extended absence, looking at these photos from Florence, really makes me want to go back. There’s just something so charming about the cobbled streets of that beautiful Italian city, that certain je ne sais quoi that I can’t quite put my finger on, yet it’s definitely there.

Walking along the Arno river, le boyfriend and I spotted a chain of locks, which was later explained to us as “love locks”. Hundreds of locks with names of lovers inscribed, keys thrown into the river, so that the couple’s love is “locked up” forever. Romantic, non?

After hanging our very own lock, we headed over to the Boboli Gardens, for some gorgeous vistas of Florence, and some champagne on the grass…what could be better?

Gap Canada Online Shopping Launch

As a blogger, I spend a lot of my time online. 9-5 at the office for my day job, and then a few more hours at home scheduling posts, answering emails, reading pitches, and of course, as a girl in my twenties – shopping online. As I got older, my real-world shopping trips got more sparse, and my online deal hunting time increased dramatically. And why not? It’s so convenient – just click and pay…et voilà!

So when Gap PR invited me to attend Gap Canada’s Online Shopping Launch, I was thrilled! Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic have had huge presence worldwide and in Canada for many years now…but we weren’t able to shop online until now. All three sites, one shopping cart, free shipping (over $50), warehouse in Canada, no tariffs - easy, peasy.

Shopping at the event was easy too. Attendees were given $100 to spend on any Gap Inc. items available online, via www.GapCanada.ca. After initial browsing, I selected a cute double-breasted sweater from Gap, and some socks from Old Navy, clicked Checkout, and was done in mere minutes – the way online shopping should be.

Gap Inc. is a huge corporation…and all this ease has made me wonder why we (Canadians) didn’t get online shopping sooner. Thankfully, Gap Inc. Direct President Toby Lenk was on hand to answer some of my questions. He and Debbie Podberesky (VP Gap Inc.) shared that though online shopping could’ve been offered to Canadians much sooner, the infrastructure was not in place to allow direct shipping from Canada to Canada, which would’ve meant that packages would be shipped from the States, incurring tariffs, and making in-store returns nearly impossible. With a new warehouse in Southern Ontario, shipping is supposed to be fast and efficient, while returns and exchanges - a breeze.

I also wondered about the goods’ selection online – having shopped firsthand myself, I noted that many items offered in stores or on the US site were noticeably missing. But Mr. Lenk confirmed that it’s just a timing issue – the site is still in its early stages, and more product will be introduced as time goes on.

But as expected with any brand new launch, my online shopping did have a minor setback – an email stating that my order was cancelled. After phoning the number on the email, and speaking to very courteous and helpful support staff, I was informed that due to a large number of sequential prepaid credit card orders, the system halted said orders, suspecting potential fraud. The problem was fixed, and it somehow made me feel more secure about shopping at Gap Canada online, if mildly confused at first. A couple of hours later, all orders were re-instated, my package was still scheduled to arrive at my house in 5(ish) days. Hooray!

Now, I don’t know how fast I’ll be getting my goodies in the mail, so I can’t vouch for speediness and packaging, but as soon as that parcel arrives at my door, I’ll make sure to let you guys know all about it and post some pics too!

Are you excited about being able to shop Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy online, all on one site? Let me know in the comments!

UPDATE: Got my package in the mail 2 days after ordering. That is TWO days with FREE shipping. If that’s not amazing, I really don’t know what is! The sweater was a bit big on me, so I went in the next day to exchange it. Brought the bill with me, sales associate processed the exchange without questions. I got a pair of jeans instead of the sweater…and they fit like a dream. They’ll definitely get a lot of use on my upcoming vacay. Look out for pics!

What I Wore: True Blue

Rainy weekend in Toronto – what better time to wear my new Vivienne Westwood x Melissa Lady Dragon shoes? Love them so much, but unfortunately, they are too small for my feet…and size up was too big! I think I’ll just have to keep them in their box to look at when I am feeling blue – those hearts would cheer me up in no time!

But I do wish, I could wear these shoes more often…they are just too cute! Oh well…maybe one day my feet would shrink magically? Anyone know a good foot diet?

Freebies: $50 Worth of Gap For Only $25!

So Gap has been all over the internet lately, what with the new premium pant collection, and their new line of well-fitting jeans in stores, I must say the buzz is quite justified. I, myself, got a pair of cropped work pants the other day, and I just don’t want to take them off – they fit so well! But today, there’s another reason to shop at Gap – a 50% off Groupon coupon!

Just as a disclaimer, I am not associated with either Gap or Groupon, but a deal this good is TOO good to pass up! All you have to do is register with Groupon (if you still don’t have an account), and purchase today’s buy for $25! You then will be emailed a $50 voucher to be spent at any Gap store in the US or Canada (expires in November 2010). It’s basically 50% off your purchase (even sale items included)! I am definitely buying one today, and getting another pair of premium pants – working at the office, you can never have too many, right?

What are you going to spend your Groupon on? Let me know in the comments!

Yorkdale is Me: Outtakes

Woohoo! I have finally updated my About page! It’s been 15 or so months and I just couldn’t get around to doing it. I’m still not completely happy with the final result, but it’ll do for now. Why it’s so hard to write things about yourself, I’ll never know.

And in the spirit of sharing things that are overdue, here are some of the outtake photos from my Chris Nicholls Yorkdale is Me  photoshoot. I still can’t believe my luck sometimes…not only did Chris Nicholls, the same guy that shoots for Holt Renfrew and Flare Magazine took my pictures…but they also appeared on a billboard! Crazy talk.

Here’s what I wore:

Outfit 1: Striped Mens Shirt, Pants, Shoes – H&M; Lip Bracelet – Aldo

Outfit 2: Top – Aritzia; Leopard Print Cardigan, Necklace, Shoes - H&M; Jeans – Gap

World AIDS Day

stella red

December 1st is World AIDS Day. Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are supporting the cause by literally going red for one day. You can also show your support by turning your tweets red, wearing a red ribbon, or by purchasing this Stella McCartney for Gap (Product) RED t-shirt. Half the profits will go directly to the global fund to fight AIDS…and the tee is all kinds of cute!
