What I Wore: All-Canadian

Speaking of Toronto Fashion Week! Guess who was featured in Flare Magazine’s Wear Canada: Blogger Edition? Style Blog!!!

My fellow bloggers, and I were asked to wear our fave Canadian pieces for this post, and boy…was it ever difficult to choose! In the end, I wore this comfy Ashley Rowe dress, accessorized with a belt by George Antonopoulos (OBJECT for Danier Leather), a bracelet I picked up at The Bay, and a pair of my fave Aldo boots. Not too shabby, and pretty much all Canadian.

Trying to figure out what to wear made me realize that I actually own a ton of pieces by Canadian brands and designers. Which was definitely a nice surprise! What about you? Do you have Canadian fashion faves? If so, share in the comments!

PS. Huge thanks to Flare and Ryan M. Cheung for the feature! It was truly an honor to have been included!

I Wore: Dress – Ashley Rowe; Belt – OBJECT for Danier Leather; Boots – Aldo; Backpack – Chanel; Bracelet – Expression at The Bay; Ring – YSL

Style Fille: Liz Cabral

Last night, I attended my first Spring 2012 show in Toronto, spotting a bevy of stylish editors/bloggers/socialites hanging out at the venue. Since I was camera-less, I didn’t attempt to snap anyone’s pic with my phone (how unprofessional!), but I did check everyone out.

The one person that really stood out to me last night was Liz Cabral, wearing a maxi skirt, with a Roots varsity jacket draped over her shoulders just so. Simple and chic. These photos of Liz at New York Fashion Week were taken by Tommy Ton for Style.com, featuring the same effortless vibe that the stylish editor usually exudes, and which I adore. And now that it’s fashion week time in Toronto, I can’t wait to see what this Flare Mag editor will wear next. And this time, I’ll have my camera at the ready!

What I Wore: Apples and Oranges

Sorry for slow-mo posting this week…and for being horrid at responding to your emails. My brain is on vacation…so…yeah. You might also ask…”Why apples and oranges? There’s no fruit in sight!” Well, I was going to call this post Orange You Glad…but it turns out that I used that clever name already…so Apples and Oranges it is. Brain vacay…it’s a thing.

Anywhooo…Here’s what I wore last weekend for Pride in Toronto. A little bit of colorblocking, and the new fave shoes in my closet - Flare x Aldo collab wedges. Nice and summery. Short and sweet. Like this post.

Have a lovely weekend!!!

I Wore: Top, Skirt – Zara; Shoes – Flare x Aldo; Necklaces – H&M, Forever21; Backpack – Chanel; Rings – YSL, H&M; Bracelets – H&M, BCBG; Sunglasses – Ray Ban

What I Wore: Here Comes the Sun

Last weekend was all about moms everywhere…and of course, one of the first days it actually felt like spring! Finally. Which is why I spent most of my time outdoors: brunching at SCHOOL’s patio, admiring cherry blossoms in High Park, and spending lots of time with my tiny nephew at a playground. Sometimes, the simplest things in life are the ones that bring you the most joy. In my case, it was one of the best weekends in a while…food, sunshine, and the cutest little boy in the entire world (I might be slightly biased). I couldn’t ask for more.

I Wore: Jeans – Gap; Top – Forever21; Blazer – Zara; Shoes – Aldo x Flare; Sunglasses – H&M; Backpack - Chanel; Rings – YSL, Max & Chloe; Bear Hat – H&M

Aldo x Flare “Bish” Shoe Preview

Everyone has that one perfect pair of shoes that they wish they had in their closet. Be it a sublime stiletto pump, or a chunky flat platform, finding a perfect shoe can be quite challenging. Not so for Liz Cabral. The uber-stylish Fashion Director of Flare Magazine partnered up with Aldo Shoes for one kick-ass Canadian collaboration – her very own perfect pair of summer shoes.

Last Wednesday, I was very lucky to be one of the first few to actually look at their labour of love up close and personal, as well as try them on, and…gasp…buy them before they hit the shelves the next day! Did I jump at the chance? You bet your Loubies I did!

Aesthetically, the Aldo x Flare style“takes spring’s hottest trends in stride. With naturally sexy python, the sleekest wedge and a flash of fluoro orange, it’s a brilliantly of-the-now shoe for style whizzes like you!” And though I was really digging the high-impact citrus hue, and the python detailing, it’s the comfort factor that really sold me on it. The “Bish” shoe is super lightweight, while the leather cords provide enough support to avoid the foot from slipping and sliding, without cutting into my skin – perfect for the office, and power-lunch-shopping.

Another cool thing about the collab is that it’s available in very limited quantities. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that we’ll be seeing quite a few shoe-offs in Toronto this summer.

I am really loving these Canadian collabs, be it Aldo x Flare, or Aldo x Greta Constantine (which sadly weren’t mass-produced), or Danier x Mark Fast – here’s hoping to see many more!

Will you be buying the very first Aldo x Flare shoe? Or are you holding out for another collab? Share in the comments.

What I Wore: I’m Like a Bird

When I saw Flare Magazine’s “Prom Part Deux” contest entry requirements, I knew I had to try my luck. All I needed to do was write about my own Prom, and describe why I might deserve to have another go at it. After finding out that I won 2 tickest to the Prom at the ROM event, as well as $1000 gift certificate from BCBG, I was seriously jumping for joy. But upon further reflection, me #WINNING meant that I truly did have the best worst Prom story ever. And that, my friends, is hella sad.

Not to rehash my way too long Prom fail story, here’s just a quick summary of things that happened on Prom night (and before):

- Lost luggage on my way to Prom (dress, shoes, accessories…everything!)
- Couldn’t find a last-minute dress replacement, so I went with a very simple aka blah choice
- My mom’s hairstylist gave my shoulder-length hair some major whippage, making me look very Marge Simpson (sans le bleu)
- At Prom, my first attempt at dancing resulted in a broken heel
- Best friend loaned me some shoes from her mom’s car – black rubber cloggy type monstrosities
- Oh, and since I’ve spent my senior year studying abroad, I went without a date

So you might see now that I needed another chance at Prom. After much consideration, I went with this BCBG Max Azria Runway number. It was just too perfect for twirling, and I fell in love with the pleated side-skirt-thingamajig.

So, thank you Flare, for giving me a chance to experience Prom again…this time with a great date, a lovely dress, and a pair of heels that didn’t buckle on me. One could even say that I…had…the time of my life! And I owe it all to you.

I Wore: Dress – BCBG Max Azria Runway; Shoes – D&G; Earrings, Necklace – Aldo; Bracelet – H&M; Ring – Forever21

What I’m Wearing: BCBG Dresses

bcbg

Ok, so this post has been way overdue, but in my defense, last week was a very busy one! I tried on these dresses at Flare’s 30th anniversary party that was held at BCBG on Bloor St. West in Toronto. The one above was by far my favorite, mostly because of the fit – like it was made for me! I also loved the flowered strap…although le boyfriend would probably call it a snake, or whatever else he’d come up with (he called a shoulder bow from a French Connection dress a parrot!).

The fit of the maxi dress below is also quite nice, but the color is too muted, no? It has that slightly dirty-ish look to me. I guess I’m a fan of defined colors: true blue, red, purple, but not dirty blue, or washed out red. You understand, right? But otherwise, it would’ve been a perfect dress for Jen’s wedding in January. If only it came in a brighter color!

bcbg2

The last dress, especially from the front, is not very evening-appropriate, but the back is so cool (excuse the bikini line), that I had to try it on! The lovely sales lady also picked out the shiny belt for the dress, which I must admit, really did make the dress look better! In the end, I didn’t buy any of them, first of all because I still have plenty of time (couple of months), and second, I must really love the dress in order to spend $500 on one, and unfortunately, as cute as these dresses were, they weren’t “it”. I did, however, buy a dress in Buffalo last weekend. And I think it might just be “the one”! Stay tuned!

Flare’s 30th Anniversary – BCBG Party

bcbg13

As you have probably heard, Flare Magazine is now 30! And to celebrate this fun occasion, the magazine partnered up with a few great stores to thank its readers and to prove to everyone that the magazine is as fabulous as ever at 30! Last night, Al and I attended the BCBG party on Bloor St. in Toronto. While the scale of the party was nowhere near that of H&M‘s, the beautiful dresses more than made up for it! Did you know that BCBG stands for Bon Chic, Bon Genre (Good Style, Good Attitude)? Good style and good attitude? Check! As well as champagne and my favorite macarons from MoRoCo!

As you all probably know already (from all my whining on this blog), I desperately need 2 dresses to go to 2 weddings! And my search has been nothing but a big whopping disappointment! Last night, however, I found an awesome dress, that is definitely a shoo-in to be a winner (not that there’s much competition). I’ll be posting some dresses I tried on last night in a separate post later, but in the meantime, I just wanted to give you all a heads up that BCBG|Max Azria stores are offering 20% off all regular merchandise in honor of Flare’s 30th birthday! Fabulous, no?

You can RSVP here. Events are happening in Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, and obviously Toronto. Have fun and don’t forget to wish Flare a Happy Birthday!

Flare’s 30th Anniversary – H&M Party

hm

Last week, my girls and I attended Flare Mag’s 30th anniversary party thrown by H&M. With wine and martinis free-flowing, hors d’oeuvres passed around, fashionable people at every corner, and a 20% discount on everything in the store…the party was guaranteed to be a success! The best-selling Canadian fashion magazine’s birthday party drew in a pretty large crowd, with people lining up to get in, and the lineups for the fitting rooms…well, let’s just say I didn’t get to try anything on. The first 200 shoppers also received H&M/Flare gift bags (H&M magazine, Flare magazine, and a piece of jewelry from H&M).

All in all, we had a great time; got to meet a few cool people and reconnect with old acquaintances. Jo and Al both put the discount to good use, and bought a few things. Alcohol coupled with music and slashed prices? Is there a better way to shop? I think not!

We didn’t stick around for the “special fashion presentation”, so if any of you attended it, let me know how that went!
