Shoeaholics, rejoice! You are invited to meet designer Sam Edelman at the Hudson’s Bay store on Queen St this Thursday, October 3rd! The fab event will be held at Canada’s largest shoe department, and if you haven’t yet had a chance to stop by, this is a really good excuse to finally experience The Bay’s jaw-droppingly beautiful (and stocked to the brim) shoe floor.
But that’s not all! Attendees will also be entered to win a Sam Edelman shoe wardrobe valued at $750! Is there a better way to get your wardrobe ready for fall? I think not. Refreshments will be served, Mr. Edelman will be there to sign shoes, and my girl Sharon of the Backseat Stylers and I will be trying on shoes and probably dancing up a storm! It’s always a pleasure to meet Style Blog readers, so if you decide to stop by, please be sure to say hello. And if you need any help with your shoe choices…well, Sharon and I would be more than happy to oblige. Shopaholism enabling is what we do. Hope to see you there!

El Catrin Destileria
18 Tank House Lane
It’s no secret that Mexican food rates highly on my personal “foods-I-love-to-eat” ranking. So imagine my delight when I received my invitation to check out the newly-opened authentic Mexican restaurant El Catrin in Toronto’s distillery district! I was stoked.
Le bf and I arrived for dinner, and right away were both blown away by the sprawling patio that was calling our names. Well-appointed, large, and inviting, the patio was just one of many things that impressed our socks off that night. Once inside, we were greeted by a gigantic handpainted mural (by artists who were flown in from Mexico), beautiful light fixtures, and the overall welcoming atmosphere of El Catrin. This has got to be one of the most stylish Mexican restaurants I’ve ever been to.
Once the initial awe wore off, we got comfortable at our table, and braced ourselves for 8 courses of food and drinks. To start, our attentive waiter mashed up some guacamole right at our table, accompanied by warm tortilla chips, spicy nuts, and a traditional margarita. Delicioso! Knowing that there were 7 more courses ahead, we tried (and failed) to pace ourselves with the chips, and kept on shoveling the delicious green stuff into our bellies until there was none left. As for the margarita – it was one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m not a big drinker, but after one sip, I was sold.

Last Tuesday, instead of heading home after a long day at the office, I rushed to the Evergreen Brickworks, to attend Lainey Gossip’s 8th annual SMUT Soiree. Knowing that the event would be full of amazing experiences and juicy gossip, even the promise of thunderstorms couldn’t stop me.
I arrived to a jam-packed venue, with over 1000 people enjoying free drinks, manis, hair touch-ups, Cinderella-like shoe fittings from ALDO, and more. And with $1000 FLARE x H&M “style award” prize on the line, the attendees really brought their A-game. I haven’t seen a crowd this stylish in a long time!
After hanging out with my blogger besties Sharon and Gracie, we took our seats for a gossip sesh full of blind item reveals and juicy tidbits that only the industry insiders would normally be privy to. It felt like a HUGE slumber party with your best friends…well…if you have 1000 girlfriends that is. Lainey, who will be moving to Toronto this summer, also introduced her future The Social co-hosts Melissa Grelo, Cynthia Loyst, and Traci Melchor, who gave the audience a taste of what their new daytime show would feel like – and it was pretty fun…and smutty! Cynthia shared a personal blind item…and I’m fairly sure it was about Emilio Estevez…EMILIOOO! Well…at least I think it was.
With each year, the SMUT Soiree just keeps on getting bigger and better…and I wouldn’t be surprised if sometime soon it might have to be held at a large concert venue (ACC SMUT?). I guess I’m not the only gossip lover in town?
So tell me, have you ever attended Lainey’s SMUT Soiree? Do you like celeb gossip? Share in the comments.

This weekend, ALDO celebrated the grand re-opening of their shiny new Toronto flagship store at Yorkdale Shopping Center, and I had the honour of hosting some of the events. On Friday, I spent some time with the adorablest Jay Strut, searching for the most stylish Torontonians, giving away gift cards, and swooning over the Canadian band Data Romance, who were AMAZING live! We put on our best ALDO dancing shoes, and danced, danced, danced the evening away.
On Saturday, I gave away more gift cards, danced to DJ Dirty Dale’s catchy beats, did a bit of shopping (umm…I think I’m addicted to ALDO’s sunglasses!), ate a ton of jelly beans, and hung out with some awesome Style Blog readers (thanks for stopping by!). But the cherry on top of my Saturday was seeing a lovely young girl win a $500 ALDO gift card from the Check Your Hedge promotion. Once she realized that she’d picked the winning card, her face lit up with happiness and disbelief, and we were all incredibly excited for her.
The new flagship store is huge, bright, and stocked to the brim with the latest and greatest ALDO shoes, bags, jewelry, and accessories. With knowledgeable, helpful, and super stylish staff, it’s every shoe-aholic’s dream come true, and is a definite must-visit store at Yorkdale.
Check out more photos from the grand re-opening below!

So…this happened at Lancôme’s Luminato party last week – photoboothing with DARIA, y’all! Never even knew that this one was on my bucket list, but now am totally putting it on said list and crossing it off. Photoshoot with Daria Werbowy – CHECK!
As for Lancôme’s ”Roses By…” exhibit, its final stop is in Toronto and is currently being shown in the main lobby of First Canadian Place, from June 14th to 20th, 2013 for the very last time, so make sure to check it out. “To celebrate (the rose), Lancôme has given carte blanche to twenty international photographers, from Peter Lindbergh to Patrick Demarchelier, Sølve Sundsbø to Nick Knight, in France, the United States, China and England, to create their personal interpretation. Twenty uniquely talented artists, all of whom have fostered a close relationship with Lancôme over the years. The end result is twenty works, in colour or black and white, which are powerful or moving, hyperrealistic or symbolic, but always sublime!” The photos are stunning, so try to check out this exhibit while you still can.

This year’s Met Gala theme was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture”, and since so many of the celebs in attendance nailed it, I couldn’t simply post my fave looks and be done with it. This time, I chose to bring you not only my fave looks, but also the runners-up, and the headscratchers all in one post.
Let’s start with my faves. I loved the ornate Dolce and Gabbana dress on Katy Perry, the grand headpiece on SJP, the elegant Margiela on Gwen Stefani, the stunning, but decidedly NOT punk Givenchy gown on Rooney Mara, and an orange moomoo-like goodness on Ashley Olsen. None of those looks screamed punk to me, but I found these dresses to be interesting, fashion-forward, and gorgeous too. Well, SJP’s panty-flashing Giles gown wasn’t exactly my type, but if anyone could’ve pulled it off it’s her.
Apart from my top 5, I enjoyed so many other looks! From Giovanna Battaglia gilded head-to-toe goodness, to Solange Knowles looking lovely in a Kenzo gown that was perhaps a tad too casual for the Met, but beautiful nonetheless, to Emma Watson in a very sexy Prabal Gurung…there was no shortage of fashion porn at this year’s gala. Some celebs decided to don simple LBDs to the event, which in my opinion was a total waste (I’m looking at you, Michelle Williams), but others made up for it with punk hair (Miley Cyrus), and studs galore (looking gorgeous, Sienna Miller!).
All in all, I loved this year’s fashion offerings. I hate wading through a million photos of boring outfits, and this year there weren’t too many.
So now it’s your turn! Which celebs brought their A-game to the 2013 Costume Institute Gala, and which crashed and burned? Share your opinions in the comments!
