Paris Fashion Week Fall 2013: H&M Runway Show

h&m-fall-2013-paris-fashion-week-show-8

Last night one of my most favourite brands – H&M held their first-ever runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Attended by stylish young things like Ashley Olsen, Emma Roberts and Chloe Moretz, the Fall 2013 show was set in a lusciously-decorated tent set at the Musée Rodin, and showcased the gorgeous fall collection on notable models like Arizona Muse, Cara Delevigne, and Isabeli Fontana, styled by George Cortina.

Apart from the unbelievably beautiful setting, the collection itself sure did not disappoint. Moody, dark, and glamorous, in fabrics like velvet, faux fur, leather, and silk, the collection was reminiscent of those wild 70′s rock stars – edgy, but feminine. “Delicacy and a sense of faded grandeur is found in pieces such as an open-backed sequin dress or an embellished and fringed shoulder piece, while knitwear is key, especially with an intricate cable knit sweater.”

I don’t know about you, but I am obsessed with at least half of the collection…and luckily for me, I can actually afford it! Yup, finally, a runway show that we can not only draw inspiration from, but also be able to afford. How novel is that?

Anyway, what do you think of H&M’s Fall 2013 collection? Are you as obsessed as I am? Share your fave pieces in the comments!

Shopping: Party Like a LOFT Girl!

LOFT-Canada-Yorkdale-Event-Toronto

Last Sunday, my fellow LOFT Girls and I threw a brunch-themed party at Yorkdale Shopping Centre’s LOFT store…and it was a blast! Our guests showed up bright and early to shop, sip cocktails, and nosh on yummy brunch bites like Nutella + banana wraps, and cinnamon sugar donuts. Attendees enjoyed 25% off new spring collection, DJ playing fun beats, free customized totes personalized by designer and stylist Tiffany Pratt, and a chance to win a $500 LOFT Gift Card and Personal Styling Session at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

I truly loved meeting and mingling with my readers, sharing my excitement about the new spring arrivals, and those delish mini hot chocolates certainly didn’t hurt either! Huge thanks to everyone who trekked to Yorkdale at 10am on a Sunday morning to attend our little event. I really hope you had fun! Check out some photos from the event below and on our Facebook Page.

NYFW Fall 2013: Naeem Khan

Naeem-Khan-fall-winter-2013-nyfw

One of the highlights of my whirlwind trip to New York this February was attending Naeem Khan’s Fall 2013 runway presentation. With a star-studded front row that included Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso, Brooke Shields, Taraji Henson, and Vanessa Hudgens, this show was one of my favourites, and not because of the celeb factor – the clothes were breathtaking!

Gown after opulent gown, you could feel the excitement in the room. From long-sleeved silver frocks, to blue and crimson velvet, to sparkly golden dresses, I loved it all, and wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of the more formal beaded numbers on red carpets soon (Michelle Obama herself wore one of his designs to the Academy’s Governors’ Dinner, while Clooney’s giflfriend wore a dress from this collection to The Oscars!). And why not? Naeem Khan’s aesthetic is sexy and glam, without feeling stale.

I am very happy that I got to see this collection in person, because no amount of pictures can beat seeing it in real life. So believe me when I say…they looked SO much better in person. If you do want to see the entire collection, please click HERE.

What do you think of Naeem Khan’s Fall 2013 collection? Let me know in the comments.

Oscars 2013: Worst Dressed

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

I just can’t…I mean, this dress…this dress should not have happened to Melissa McCarthy. Period. It’s shapeless, unflattering, and so UGLY. HOW could a dress like this find its way onto Melissa’s body? And with that big poofy hair, this entire look is just horrendous. I love Melissa McCarthy, and while I realize that she’s a curvy woman, there HAD to have been better options that this sad excuse for a dress. Sorry, Melissa, but you are the worst-dressed star of the night. Time to let that stylist go.

anne-hathaway-prada-oscars-2013

Next up – Anne Hathaway, paying homage to Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous pink taffeta Oscars dress. I have to say that this one is probably more flattering…but not really. I mean, just look at all those lumps, wrinkles…and lumps? That colour doesn’t do much for her, and while I love her hair and makeup, the rest of her look is a big NO. You can’t tell me that this Prada dress is the best she could do! I guarantee you, Anne-Oscar-Nominee-Winner-Hathaway had access to the best of the best, and this is what she went with. Disappointing.

Oscars 2013: Best Dressed

naomi-watts-oscars-2013-armani-prive

While many were declaring Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence their best-dressed, and while I totally can see where they were coming from, I wasn’t a fan. They looked fab, BUT…in  my opinion, Naomi Watts killed it! I mean, just look at her in that stunning Armani Privé gown! The neckline is complicated, but doesn’t overwhelm her, the dress fits like a glove, but isn’t too tight, her accessories are understated, and her hair and makeup – perfection. THIS is how you do the Oscars!

The rest of my list includes Alicia Vikander in an intricate pastel Elie Saab gown (look at that face!), Kerry Washington (who is my new Diane Kruger) in an embellished Miu Miu number despite the fact that it didn’t look as good in photos as it did on TV, Jennifer Hudson in a sequined blue Roberto Cavalli dress, and Jennifer Garner (I know, I’m surprised too!) in a ruffled Gucci number with a stunning statement necklace.

So what about you? Who were your best-dressed? Discuss in the comments!

Who Wore it Best: Charlize Theron vs. Anne Hathaway vs. Kerry Washington

charlize-theron-christian-dior-oscars-2013

When Charlize Theron stepped on the red carpet at the Oscars this year, everyone and their mother seemed to be head over heels in love with her look. But to me, it was yet another case of dress déjà vu…dress-a vu, if you will. Yes, she looked stunning in her white Christian Dior gown, but so did Anne Hathaway at the Golden Globes…and Kerry Washington at the SAG Awards. Of course, Anne’s dress was Chanel Haute Couture, and Kerry’s – Rodarte, but the gist of it (white – check, peplum – check, strapless – check) was all too familiar. And while in my opinion, Charlize really did wear her white gown best, I am not sure if this is Oscars best-dressed worthy.

What do you think? Let’s settle this with a duel…I mean poll!

Style Fille: Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child at Super Bowl Halftime Show!

Beyonce+Knowles+Destinys+Child+Pepsi+Super+Bowl+XLVII+Halftime+8

I have to admit, I did not watch the Super Bowl, because I really don’t care about football, but I’m pretty sure everyone and their grandma watched the halftime show, if only to see Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child reunite for the first time in AGES! And of course, to dance their asses off to Bootylicious. Queen Bey herself wore a cropped motorcycle jacket and a bodysuit made with strips of python and iguana, and insets of lace designed by the New York-based designer Rubin Singer. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams also wore Proenza Schouler booties that I just happen to have…no biggie! The sets were over the top, the hair was tossed, and Destiny’s Child reunited. It was a perfect ending to a lazy Sunday.

What did you think of the halftime show? Did you like the costumes? Share in the comments!

SAG Awards 2013: The Good, The Bad, and The Boring

sag-awards-2013-nicole-kidman-vivienne-westwood

I don’t know if it’s just me, but SAG Awards this year were really short on the wow factor. Too much boring black, ill-fitting gowns galore, and as a result someone I find super annoying is my choice for Best Dressed of the night. What is happening?! Anyway…here’s my Good, Bad, and Ugly Boring line up for the night.

GOOD: Giuliana Rancic

As annoying as I find her, this vibrant blue Max Azria Atelier gown is both simple and simply stunning. I love the unembellished black (navy?) belt, her understated jewellery, and the messy up-do. Good job, Giuliana’s stylist!

Golden Globes 2013: Best Dressed

best-dressed-golden-globes-2013-kerry-washington-miu-miu

Last night’s Golden Globes did not disappoint. Don’t you think? I truly loved Amy and Tina hosting the show, but I wish I’d seen a bit a lot more of them during the broadcast. Watching the red carpet broadcast before the show, and live-tweeting it was also a ton of fun for me. Thanks to those of you who participated in the best/worst debates! It made watching the Globes alone in my pjs a lot more social. So on to my personal best dressed list.

There were quite a few celebs last night that wowed me with their picks (or their stylists’ picks). Let’s get started, shall we? First up, we have Kerry Washington in Miu Miu. To me, this was an unexpected and perhaps a bit casual choice, but it felt fresh and interesting, and it wasn’t a mermaid-cut gown, and I loved it. Kerry has really been killing it lately in the style department, and this look is no exception.

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen. That body! That hair! That dress! Sublime.

best-dressed-nicole-richie-naeem-khan-golden-globes-2013

Nicole Richie wore a stunning sparkling blue Naeem Khan gown, looking fresh, classy, and so-so-so beautiful! Can you believe that this is the same woman from that reality show starring Paris Hilton? Me neither.

best-dressed-golden-globes-2013-katharine-mcphee-theyskens

When I saw Katharine McPhee in this amazing Theyskens Theory dress, I gasped. It is everything an LBD should be – sexy, elegant, and stunning. I could do away with those plastic straps on her shoes, but other than that, from her hair and make-up, to her choice of accessories, McPhee is a vision in black.
