Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy at The Bay in Toronto!

Rodarte-At-The-Bay-toronto

Did you hear? Designer siblings Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte will be in Toronto on May 23rd for a private party at The Bay’s The Room to celebrate their Fall 2012 collection. But if you’re not lucky enough to be on the super exclusive invite list, don’t fret…rumour has it, the fantastically talented duo will return the next day for a public appearance at The Room at 12:30pm.

Ok, so it’s not a rumour…I actually saw a flyer with my own eyes, but totally forgot to save it – my bad. I’ve since not been able to find it, and I am not sure whether it’s due to the fact that the public appearance has been cancelled, or due to my subpar sleuthing skills…but either way, once more details are confirmed, I will update this post. Stay tuned!

Are you excited to meet Rodarte in person? Share in the comments!

UPDATE: The Room’s Nicholas Mellamphy just confirmed on Twitter that the public event IS HAPPENING!

May 24th, 2012 at 12:30pm
The Bay Queen St (The Room – 3rd floor)
Jeanne Beker will interview the sister duo behind Rodarte!

Be there, or be square, people! Opportunity of a lifetime, right here!

Toronto Fashion Week: Pink Tartan Fall 2012 Collection

pink-tartan-fall-2012

Peplums, and feathers, and fur sleeves…oh, my! Pink Tartan Fall 2012 was full of fun details, great styling (no surprise, as it’s rumoured to have been styled by Flare’s Liz Cabral herself), and lots (and lots) of wearable pieces. From dramatic makeup (those lips!), to dramatic silhouettes…I was really into it all.

Some of my fave pieces included a wine red blazer with black patent detailing (a must-have for next fall), bold green peplum top and matching pants, as well as that green leather skirt with sheer panels. Simply divine.

And though I didn’t find Pink Tartan’s fall collection to be breathtaking (that honor goes to Lucian Matis), I am certain that its wearability will prove a huge success on the retail side of the equation…and I’ll definitely be spending my hard-earned cash on a couple of pieces myself.

What do you think of Pink Tartan’s Fall 2012 collection? Share in the comments.

Jason Wu for Target Toronto Pop-up Shop

If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that last Thursday, I was one of the lucky few who got to shop the one day pop-up shop of Jason Wu for Target in Toronto. With Jason in attendance, bloggers and media alike attacked the racks, grabbing their favorite pieces and dashing to the fitting rooms. As for me, I was left torn between wanting to buy more than the allowed 3 pieces, and being a good friend and getting the coveted kitty scarves for my friends. The friend thing won out, and I walked away with 3 kitty scarves in my Target tote.

But not before snapping some photos, ogling the handsome Brad Goreski, and checking out everyone’s loot (all proceeds donated to the United Way!) It was the most fun I’ve had shopping in a long while, and judging from the flawless execution of the pop-up shop (it was incredibly well-organized), I cannot to see what else the folks at Target Canada will have in store.

Did you line up for Jason Wu x Target last week? What did you buy? Excited to finally have Target in Canada? Share in the comments.

Dr. Martens First Love Exhibit

Back in February, I was asked to provide a photo for Dr. Martens’ FIRST LOVE exhibit – part of their #FIRSTANDFOREVER campaign – a photo that reminds me of my first love. The FIRST LOVE film, featuring Agyness Deyn and Ash Stymest, was shown at the exhibit, alongside a series of curated FIRST LOVE images, sent in by some of my favorite Toronto bloggers and fashion editors, including Beckerman Bite Plate, Corduroy, f-list, Fashionights, Final Fashion, Jay Strut, Lainey Gossip, PinkMafia, She Does The City, Textstyles, Toronto Is Fashion, and many others…as well as one photo from Style Blog! It was awesome to be included, and I loved seeing my photo on a canvas at the store.

Other than admiring everyone’s submissions, I also to also check out Dr. Martens Spring 2012 arrivals, which were a lot of fun – in a variety of great poppy colors, floral motifs, and new styles. You can see these for yourselves at the Dr. Martens Toronto store on Queen St., or online.

So tell me, if you were asked to submit a photo of something that reminds you of your first love, what would it be?

Moschino Pre-Fall 2012 Preview at The Room

Earlier this week, I popped by The Room’s Moschino Pre-Fall 2012 preview. Having loved Moschino’s whimsical aesthetic for years now, I was happy to finally see the pre-fall collection in person. Most of the expected Moschino elements were there in spades - tweeds, bows, lace, pearls come together in a collection of classic girly pieces. And though I wouldn’t call myself a girly-girl per se, my fave item from the collection was nevertheless the uber-feminine lace jacket with pearl buttons and yellow piping (above). I pawed at it wistfully…making a wish in my head that my size is still at The Room in a few months (when it goes on sale…fingers crossed).

If you too, want to see the collection up close and personal, make sure to stop by The Room at The Bay, and please, do say “Hi!” to my jacket from me!

Don’t Miss This Week: Jason Wu for Target Pop-up Shop

Jason Wu x Target Pop-up Shop
363 King St West, Toronto
Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 (doors open at noon)
Hosted by Target Canada

Speaking of cats! This week, you do NOT want to miss this event…seriously! If you’ve been pining for the cheeky pieces from the mischievous Jason Wu for Target collection, and you live in Toronto…well, next Thursday is your lucky day! Target Canada will be hosting a one-day pop-up shop, with all proceeds donated to the United Way Toronto. Your good deed of the day made super easy.

And that’s not all…Jason Wu himself is supposed to be in attendance! So if you’ve always wanted to congratulate the young designer on all his success, well, now is your chance!

On my personal shopping list: white dress with peekaboo lace, cat-print scarf…and perhaps a cat tee. But don’t call me a crazy cat lady just yet…I might change my mind at the last-minute.

Will you be attending? Which pieces are you dying to get your hands on? Share in the comments!

Homesense Spring 2012 Preview

If you follow Style Blog on Facebook then you probably have seen a few of these photos before…I was simply too excited to hold back after attending the HomeSense Spring 2012 Preview. Well, now that I had a couple of weeks to process it…I am still excited.

Here’s the thing. Le bf and I are engaged, and living together. And though his condo is definitely not a bare bachelor pad, I still feel the need to add some pieces that are more me. And that’s where HomeSense comes in.

I’ve been stopping by their Yonge St location weekly, buying things for our home, from cookware, to accessories, and always eyeing their furniture. If you’ve ever shopped at HomeSense, you know how affordable it is! But here’s where I run into a problem…my tiny downtown HomeSense doesn’t have a huge selection of furniture…and after previewing their spring offerings, I need to get my butt to one of their larger locations stat. Dibs on the armchair above, orange table below, blue embroidered lounger, and that fun printed loveseat. Yeah, I get it…they don’t all go together, but I love them nonetheless…and will find a way to make it work.

So tell me, which HomeSense location is your favorite? Have you seen that grey armchair in a store near you? Don’t be selfish, share your tips!

Roots Spring 2012 Preview

Last week, a few of my blogger friends and I hit up the Bloor Street Roots store to check out their Spring 2012 goodies. And as you see, we all found something to love. Though I’ve always been a fan of Roots’ leather accessories, the preview made me reconsider the brand’s seriously stylish outerwear options.

First thing that caught my eye, and one that I seriously did not want to take off, was a cognac leather moto vest. How lovely is it? With a modern cut, and supple leather, it’s a perfect layering piece for any outfit this spring. And there was so much more! Varsity jackets, making a huge comeback, are available in a variety of fabrics and colors, without too many logos and adornments. Some of my favorites included a nylon jacket with leather sleeves – perfect in its simplicity, and a perforated leather vest – another item I wouldn’t mind adding to my (tiny) closet.

As expected, the collection featured a lot of bright colors, and I loved the addition of summer sandals to the shoe lineup. Not sure if Roots carried sandals before…but this year’s styles looked cute and comfy.

What do you think of Roots’ Spring 2012 Collection? Share in the comments.

Winners Spring 2012 Preview

In case you needed a reminder…it’s almost February. And what does that mean? Only a couple of months until spring! Hooray! Earlier this month, I attended Winners’ Spring 2012 Preview, showcasing some of the cutest and most affordable spring clothes I’ve seen in a while. From flirty dresses, to lovely shoes, to swimsuits-galore, to colorful denim (under $20 no less) – there’s definitely something for everyone! And I seriously can’t wait to see it all in stores. Actually, some of the pieces are already available at select locations nationwide, like the below Missoni-esque dress, which I’d spotted last week at the Bloor St. location.

I also spotted more than a few amazing high-end designer pieces, which in Toronto, should be available at Bloor St, College St, and Queen St (and Portland) locations…I certainly wouldn’t mind adding a lacy Valentino frock to my wardrobe…or a pair of grey lacy pants. Simply gorgeous!

Do you shop at Winners often? Which location is your favorite for scoring the best deals? Share your tips in the comments.

WedLuxe Wedding Show 2012

Earlier this month, I attended the first annual WedLuxe Wedding Show at Toronto’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Actually, it was my first wedding show ever, and I think after this one…all other shows would pale in comparison. From the entrance, adorned with a curtain of roses, to the beautifully decorated and displayed vendor “booths”, to the Kate Spade-inspired (complimentary) high-tea room, to the Mad Men-inspired groom’s lounge, to “The WedLuxe Beauty Boutique”, filled to the brim with swag and free beauty treatments…I could stay there all day long.

And if you’re a bride, planning a wedding, there’s no better place to meet with potential vendors, and get some awesome ideas for your big day. Some of my fave booths included, Cake Opera (macaron cake, anyone?), Cakes by Konstadin (gorgeous Russian doll cakes), cute Paper and Poste invitations, Patricia’s Cake Creations’ lovely cupcakes and beautiful cakes, Cake Museum’s artfully designed edible creations, Truffle Cake and Pastry’s everything, Whimsical Wedding Cakes’ err…whimsical wedding cakes…and so many more. Obviously, I was mostly drawn to the edible booths…and how could I not be? Those cakes, cupcakes, and other deserts were so exquisite…that it actually made me doubt my own decision to get married abroad.

This year’s WedLuxe Wedding Show was packed to the brim with excited brides, wedding ideas galore, and only the best of Toronto’s wedding vendors. And considering that this was WedLuxe’s very first show, I can imagine that their future events will be even more luxurious and fun.

Have you attended the first annual WedLuxe Wedding Show this month? What did you think? Share in the comments.

A Is For ALDO Fragrance Launch

Last week, I attended an intimate launch of A is for ALDO fragrance collection – a first for everyone’s favorite Canadian shoe retailer ALDO. The collection included 3 scents for the ladies, and 2 for the gents. With clean minimalistic design, the bottles (and roll-ons) would look good on any vanity, and they smell great to boot! Not like boots, silly! Red is for sensual and passionate people, with top notes of Icy Peach and Bergamot. Yellow is for someone who’s chic and playful, with top notes of Mandarin, Grapefruit, and Neroli Blossom. And last, but certainly not least (as it’s my fave of the three) is Blue – for sexy, glam, and seductive peeps (oh, yes!), that smells of Bergamot, Freesia, Lemon Verbena…and freshness! I’ve been wearing (and loving) it every day since the launch. True story.

One of the highlights of the event for me was meeting and chatting with the uber-stylish and cool Vyara Ndejuru, ALDO’s Director of Marketing, who answered our many questions about the new venture, and the process of creating a perfect fragrance, which in this case, took a full year! Though Alexandra Richards (daughter of Keith Richards and Patti Hanson) DJing at the event was certainly not too shabby either.

Prior to attending the much-anticipated launch, I made sure to take the Color Quiz. What’s that, you ask? Well, it’s a really fun way to gauge which scent is right for you based on your color preferences (and personality). Go ahead and take it. It’s fun, I promise!

Prices for the A is for ALDO Fragrance Collection range from $15 for a roll-on to $45 for a 75ml bottle, making it an awesome (and affordable) idea for a stocking stuffer, or a holiday treat for yourself. Stop by your neighborhood ALDO store to give it a try, and pay close attention to my tweets, as I will be doing a couple of Twitter giveaways soon.
