What I Wore: Dress Weather

silver-shoes-maxi-dress-6

When the temperatures finally hit twenties last week, I didn’t know what to do with myself! All of my summer clothes were (and still are) packed away in a multitude of boxes along with summer sandals, and all I had lying around were a few recent purchases and mostly closed-toe shoes. After some rummaging, this is what I ended up pulling together – a Macy’s maxi that I picked up in New York in February (worn with my fave leather jacket in the morning when it was still chilly, and without during the day). And though I was initially hesitant to wear pointy-toe shoes with a maxi dress, I think this silver pair actually works. Disaster averted!

Style Fille: Olivia Munn in a Lovers + Friends Maxi

olivia-munn-lovers-friends-maxi-dress

This Lovers + Friends dress on Olivia Munn is all kinds of perfect! Or is it just me? The print is definitely not for everyone, as it’s loud and busy, but since I love loud and busy, this is right up my alley. I also adore the back of this dress, and the high neckline…and the fact that I could probably eat a full meal and not feel like my dress is trying to kill me. You know?

If you are a lucky size XS, you can pre-order this beauty of a maxi HERE, the rest of us will have to wait, which is fine, I suppose…since it’s freaking freezing outside. Is it April, or February? I can never tell.

Wishlist: Charlie Jade Spring 2013 Collection

charlie-jade-spring-2013

Last time I stopped by Mendocino, I noticed a beautiful printed maxi dress hanging on a rack. Curious to find out what brand the dress was, I took a closer look to find out that it was from Charlie Jade’s Spring 2013 collection. And while Mendocino has been my favourite stop for all things Clover Canyon, I think I’ll be adding Charlie Jade to my growing list of brands to watch. After perusing their website, I found more and more pieces to covet, like the flowy summer dresses and gorgeous boho tops, perfect for a hot summer. If it ever comes that is.

What do you think of Charlie Jade’s Spring 2013 lookbook and collection? Any pieces that tickle your fancy? Share in the comments.

H&M Conscious Exclusive Collection Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

h&m-conscious-exclusive-hollywood-collection-2

Good news, lovelies! H&M Conscious Exclusive collection will launch on April 4th worldwide! Following the success of H&M Conscious Glamour capsule, The Conscious Exclusive collection will consist of glam party attire and accessories for both men and women created from sustainable materials like organic cotton, recycled polyester, recycled polyamide, and Tencel. Prices will range from $19.95 – $399.00, making this collection an affordable way to add some Hollywood glamour to your closet.

“Old Hollywood comes alive with Conscious Exclusive, a collection perfect for celebrating the arrival of spring. Rich in detail and eloquent design, the collection is full of dramatic gowns and sharp tailoring for women, and a rock-and-roll, red-carpet style for men. A floor-length dusty pink gown is elegant from the front – and dramatic at the back, which is entirely open – and is made from 100% recycled polyester. The three-piece suit has been given a feminine twist, with a fitted blazer and fitted, high-waisted pants that zip at the ankle, in an organic cotton blend.

There are so many options for living the Hollywood life. An off-white, loose-fitting kimono set has a bohemian air of faded glamour, especially with its pants that sweep to the floor; a jumpsuit has modern edge with its cutaway back; a demure white dress has rock-and-roll romance with its sheer sleeves, asymmetric train and bird embroidery; and there are seemingly endless layers of tulle in a corseted dress that feels like it just stepped out of a bygone world. The collection is completed with accessories, such as an embellished box clutch and elegant minimal heels with the slenderest of ankle straps. Everything is made from more sustainable materials.”

I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on a few pieces from this collection, but the one MUST HAVE dress on my list is the below white long-sleeved “mullet” lace dress, which needs to be in wardrobe RIGHT NOW!

What do you think of this new Conscious collection? Will you be hitting the stores come April 4th? Share in the comments!

Wishlist: Banana Republic’s Megan Draper-inspired Mad Men Collection

banana-republic-mad-men-megan-draper-collection-2013

I don’t know about you, but I’m in love with Banana Republic’s latest capsule collection inspired by Mad Men’s Megan Draper. Co-designed by costume director Janie Bryant, the pieces certainly have that retro-feel, what with the mod shapes, geometric patterns, and short-ish hemlines – totally my steeze! Too bad the Zou Bisou dress didn’t make the cut. Maybe next time? Nevertheless, come February 27th, I will be making my way to a Banana Republic store to inject that 60′s flare into my spring wardrobe.

But let’s not forget about the boys…ahem…men. Menswear collection includes a couple of “Don Draper Casual Friday” looks, as well as a super sexy/super sleek blue suit, that I can’t wait to get for le bf!

Are you excited for the second Mad Men collection from Banana Republic? What are your fave pieces?

Toronto Fashion Week: Greta Constantine Spring 2013

greta-constantine-spring-2013

Last week, designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong of Greta Constantine re-defined the meaning of “fashionably late”. Showing their Spring 2013 collection outside the official Toronto Fashion Week schedule, and almost a month later, they couldn’t have made a better decision. The Distillery District’s Fermenting Cellar was packed with enthusiastic attendees, no longer hungover from those long fashion week days, and jonesing to get a peek at Greta’s spring frocks. No one was in a rush, and no one was complaining, or tired, or cranky. It was…refreshing.

Seeing the first model walk down the catwalk, I knew that we were in for a treat. With impeccable styling, beautiful dresses, jumpsuits, and gowns, Spring 2013 was one of Greta Constantine’s strongest collections, but also a departure from the jersey aesthetic for which they are most known. With only a handful of jersey pieces sent down the runway, the majority of the collection was crafted from a microfibre fabric. “We call it the Holy Grail of fabrics; you can drape it in its lightweight form, and we are doing much more sculptural work with the heavier weights,” shared Wong with the Toronto Star.

Also noticeably missing were the colourful pieces. Monochrome was the name of the game, with the colour palette ranging from navy to black to white. Simple and chic. And while the dark portion of the collection was sexy and elegant, the white pieces oozed playful innocence with full skirts, use of eyelet, tulle, pleats, and ruffles. Models wore custom-made rose bracelets in black and white, showing that “every woman has an edge, but only some have thorns”, as the show notes stated…and making me want some thorns of my very own.

Overall, this was probably my favourite Greta Constantine collection that I’ve seen so far, with many glamorous gowns that I wish filled my closet, but also more than a few day dresses that I could imagine myself wearing (sans the headpiece I’m afraid) out and about. And with the collection only weeks away from actually hitting the stores, this show will surely be fresh in my mind when I start hunting some of my favourite pieces down.

So what do you think of Greta Constantine’s Spring 2013 collection? Any favourites? Share in the comments!

Danier Leather Spring 2013 Collection Preview

danier-leather-spring-2013

Earlier this week, I attended the Danier Leather Spring 2013 collection preview, which quite literally brightened up my day. As I entered the showroom, I was immediately drawn to all the fun leather jackets in peppy shades, making me wish spring was here. But even though we still have a few months to go before leather jacket weather is back, there’s no reason why we can’t make our Spring/Summer wishlists in November…right?

My must-haves from the preview included the aforementioned leather jackets (my fave is the butter-soft moto jacket in soft yellow leather…drool!), beautifully-cut illusion dresses, adorable shoulder strap purses in red, green, and blue, and the Valentino-esque studded leather totes. A lot of the pieces at the preview incorporated fun elements like printed lining (images of butterflies, trucks, and tie-dye among others), colourblocking,  quilted details (my fave!), and more. And with some items arriving in stores as early as January, I won’t have to wait too long to add some of these pieces to my wardrobe.

What do you think of Danier’s Spring 2013 collection? What are your must-haves? Share in the comments.
