What They Wore: Celeb Looks from Met Gala 2013

met-gala-2013-punk-katy-perry-dolce-gabbana

This year’s Met Gala theme was “PUNK: Chaos to Couture”, and since so many of the celebs in attendance nailed it, I couldn’t simply post my fave looks and be done with it. This time, I chose to bring you not only my fave looks, but also the runners-up, and the headscratchers all in one post.

Let’s start with my faves. I loved the ornate Dolce and Gabbana dress on Katy Perry, the grand headpiece on SJP, the elegant Margiela on Gwen Stefani, the stunning, but decidedly NOT punk Givenchy gown on Rooney Mara, and an orange moomoo-like goodness on Ashley Olsen. None of those looks screamed punk to me, but I found these dresses to be interesting, fashion-forward, and gorgeous too. Well, SJP’s panty-flashing Giles gown wasn’t exactly my type, but if anyone could’ve pulled it off it’s her.

Apart from my top 5, I enjoyed so many other looks! From Giovanna Battaglia gilded head-to-toe goodness, to Solange Knowles looking lovely in a Kenzo gown that was perhaps a tad too casual for the Met, but beautiful nonetheless, to Emma Watson in a very sexy Prabal Gurung…there was no shortage of fashion porn at this year’s gala. Some celebs decided to don simple LBDs to the event, which in my opinion was a total waste (I’m looking at you, Michelle Williams), but others made up for it with punk hair (Miley Cyrus), and studs galore (looking gorgeous, Sienna Miller!).

All in all, I loved this year’s fashion offerings. I hate wading through a million photos of boring outfits, and this year there weren’t too many.

So now it’s your turn! Which celebs brought their A-game to the 2013 Costume Institute Gala, and which crashed and burned? Share your opinions in the comments!

Independent Spirit Awards 2013: Green with Envy

kerry-washington-giambattista-valli-spirit-awards-2013

Even though Indie Spirit Awards are the last award stop before the Oscars, both Kerry Washington and Zoe Saldana brought their A-game to the pink carpet. Kerry in a beautiful Giambattista Valli Couture floral dress, matching shoes, and lovely fresh makeup, looked super radiant. For someone who’s mostly on TV these days, Kerry sure does have a great stylist with access to beautiful clothes. I’ve been loving her red carpet choices lately, and can’t wait to see what she wears this Sunday.

Zoe Saldana also wore green, but instead of floral, she went for a chic wide-striped Dolce & Gabbana dress. And though I would probably add some statement earrings or a necklace to this look, I think those white pumps were a pretty kick-ass accessory.

What do you think of Kerry’s and Zoe’s looks? Which leading lady wore green best? Share in the comments.

Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

dolce-gabbana-spring-2013-ad-campaign

Dolce & Gabbana ad campaigns always look like buckets of fun to shoot. Exquisite clothes, gorgeous people, and dreamy vistas. What’s not to love? Shot in duo’s beloved Sicily, the ads once again feature D&G regulars like Monica Bellucci and Bianca Balti, as well as a medley of Italian characters, making these ads look like personal snaps from a stylish, fun, and rowdy family vacation. As for the collection which the ads are meant to sell…I love it! The clothes are sexy and vibrant, the accessories are loud, and I can only wish that I could afford it all.

Toronto International Film Festival has come and gone, and though it’s been both exhausting and exhilarating, I can’t wait until next year’s film fun fest. From my fave style fille Diane Kruger, to glorious Monica Bellucci, to fresh-faced Emma Watson, to stunning Kristen Stewart, I had a great time going through the outfits, and choosing my faves!

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

dolce-gabbana-fall-winter-2012

Love, love, love this Fall 2012 ad campaign for Dolce & Gabbana, featuring Monica Bellucci, Bianca Balti, and Bianca Brandolini, shot in beautiful Italy, and featuring what looks like everyday family moments. That is if your family has outstanding genes (Monica is magnificent, no?), and wears a lot of Dolce & Gabbana. I also adore this collection…from the baroque prints, to black lace, to gold accents overload…I want it all!

This ad campaign is very similar to the Spring 2012 ads shot in Sicily, but still manages to take my breath away. You like? Share in the comments!

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala 2012: Best Dressed

met-costume-institute-gala-2012-giovanna_battaglia-dolce-gabbana

I am not exactly sure if we’re going to see eye-to-eye on my Best Dressed picks from the Met’s Costume Institute Gala 2012. But here they come. My number one pick for Best Dressed is Giovanna Battaglia in a floral Dolce and Gabbana gown, topped off with a floral crown (my recent obsession). She looks breathtaking…and a little Frida-Kahlo-esque…and I love everything about her look.

diane-kruger-prada-met-2012

Diane Kruger (in a floor-sweeping Prada number) can do no wrong in my eyes. She looks stunning, no? Interesting enough, but not crazy. I love the dress, the accessories, the hair and the makeup. Brava, Diane! Brava!

chloe-sevigny-miu-miu-met-2012

And then we have the yin to Diane’s yang. There’s something slightly off about this Miu Miu outfit that Chloe Sevigny has chosen for the Met Gala, and yes, it’s a little crazy, but I still love it. It’s the antithesis of boring. And while it might not be the classiest of getups, I kinda…not-so-secretly wish I could pull something like this off. So because of Chloe’s guts (or her stylist’s), I give this look two thumbs up.

rooney-mara-met-2012-givenchy

Rooney Mara in Givenchy is another one of my Best Dressed picks, because I really love what she has going on here. The hair and makeup really suit the dress, and I like that she went easy on the jewels…or rather, went jewel-less. There’s something weird going on in the crotch area…but I am willing to shrug it off as a photo-mishap.

ginnifer-goodwin-monique-lhuillier-met-2012

How gorgeous did Ginnifer Goodwin look in that Monique Lhuillier gown? So pretty, right? I wish she’d smile a little, and not look so annoyed and/or grim in photos. Come on, Ginny! It’s a ball! You have a pretty dress on! You’re dating an effing prince! Ok, not a real prince, but it still counts…I think. Either way, she’s still a fave of mine, and I love this dress (and the color) on her so much!

Wishlist: Dolce & Gabbana Face Wedges

From the Suede Kisses bag to Suede Faces shoes…I am obsessed. I should be growing out of these types of things, my taste and my style should be maturing as I get older, but instead, I find myself further drawn to silly, kitschy items like these Dolce & Gabbana face wedges. Is there no hope for me? Will I be a sixty-year old woman in a silly hat, wearing silly shoes and silly jewelry? Not sure yet, but stay tuned.

Elle Spain’s Disney Designers

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Karl Lagerfeld fell into some well (ala Enchanted) only to end up in a Disney-animated world? Well, Elle Spain certainly has given it some thought, and the results, I must admit, are pretty cool! Can totally see Donatella as a duck, it’s completely spot on! But then again, most of the designers in the spread are ducks (with the exception of Karl, and D&G). Were the folks at Elle Spain too scared to paint someone as a pig, a cow, or…gasp…an elephant in their April 2010 issue? I would guess so. I, for one, would never want to taste someone like Karl’s wrath! No, thanks!

I think these cartoons are pretty amazing! Do you? Sound off in the comments!
