Oscars 2010: Best Dressed

Ruffles, and Notten, and Kruger, oh my! It wasn’t too tough to choose my fave four ladies on the Oscars red carpet last night, since so many actresses opted for pretty, but safe gowns, that only elicited a reaction of “meh” from me and my. Not so with these four ladies. My favorite of the night was Vera Farmiga’s ruffly fuchsia frock. Ruffles are tricky, and not everyone can pull them off without looking overpowered, but Farmiga managed to look fresh, stunning, and definitely not safe or meh. Finally, someone with a bit of imagination and guts on the red carpet!

The same can be said about Maggie Gyllenhaal. The aquatic print, the streamlined cut, the pink lips – it all adds up to an outfit that could look all sots of bad on a wrong person, but on Maggie it’s perfection (if only slightly too wrinkled for my taste). I loved her Dries Van Notten abstract print dress the moment I saw it!

It took me a bit longer to love Diane Kruger’s Chanel Haute Couture pick. The midsection ruffles appeared to look distracting at first, but the confidence with which she wore it, and the gorgeous back of her dress, made me love it the more I saw it! I’ve mentioned before that Diane doesn’t have a stylist, and on this occasion (as with many others), I fully support her gown choice! Plus, Lucky Magazine, reported that Kruger did her own makeup for the big night! How cool is that? I think she did a great job!

My final best dressed pick is Zoe Saldana. Saldana’s Golden Globes dress was not a safe choice, and neither is her Oscars Givenchy gown. It’s pouffy, with a bejeweled bodice, and with what looks like pom-poms all over the train of her skirt, but the color looks fantastic with her complexion, the “pom-poms” look fun and intricate, and I happen to love the blingy neckline. It’s fun to look at, and I am sure it was fun to wear!

SAG Awards Favorites

I know that I’m a bit late on this one…but I couldn’t avoid posting about my fave SAG Awards dresses! Especially, considering the beautiful Jason Wu gown that Diane Kruger wore! Apparently, the model-turned-actress helped Wu design her marigold frock. It does remind me of that Michelle Willams dress from the Oscars, but I still love it oh-so-much! Paired with that make-up, and beautiful jewelry, I think Diane is definitely my choice for best-dressed! My list also includes Kate Hudson, in another Oscar doppelganger (remember Hillary Swank’s bum-plunging dress?), Marion Cotillard, and Sookie Anna Paquin, in a daring and very au-courant McQueen dress. Love these ladies and their choices! Didn’t do a Globes post, because most dresses were snoozefest (at least for me). SAGs, however, did not disappoint!

Are you looking forward to the Oscars’ fashion face-off? I know, I am!

2010 People’s Choice Awards – Best Dressed

I didn’t want to make this just another Diane Kruger post, so here are my picks for Best Dressed at 2010 People’s Choice Awards. The Awards themselves don’t really matter, but the outfits are always fun to look at! I want Diane’s dress, and Sandra’s gorgeous hair! Katie Cassidy’s dress is open to interpretation, but I think I like it. Which one is your favorite?

Style Fille of 2009: Diane Kruger

I promised that I wouldn’t do one of those “Best and Worst of 2009″ posts, but I just cannot resist announcing Style Blog’s favorite Style Fille – Diane Kruger! I love her style on her days off, I love her style on the red carpet, I love her style walking around with her lovely boyfriend…I just find it…effortless, which to me, means a whole lot more than put together, flawless, or whatever else. Kruger and Jackson are also my favorite Holly-couple of the year (the way he looks at her…ooh la la!), and Diane was in one of my favorite movies of the year too – The Inglourious Basterds. Safe to say, she had one fabulous year! And to commemorate that, here is a walk down a memory lane in my fave photos of Diane and Joshua.

Style Fille: Diane Kruger…yes, again!

Ok, so I might have a little obsession with Diane Kruger, so what? Just look at the outfits she wore over the last few days! Perfect, perfect, and…perfection! I love that all of her choices have a different vibe, yet all are distinctly Diane. Once again, love the fact that she’s her own stylist, love that her hair and makeup are never overdone, love that she wore shorts to the CFDA event, love her style, because it never feels forced. Diane Kruger is so chic! Love her so much! Do you?

Style Fille: Diane Kruger

diane dots

Ok, so this photo of Diane Kruger is at least a week old now, but that’s not important. What’s important are those swiss dot tights. Love them so much! If you’ve been reading this blog, you already know that Diane is one of my absolute favorites when it comes to style. And yet again she doesn’t disappoint in this blue printed Balenciaga dress, paired not with the expected opaque tights, but with dotted ones. I wear a lot of dresses to the office, and fun tights are a must in my closet. Gotta find a pair like Diane’s. If anyone knows where I can get them in Toronto, please let me know!

Diane Kruger in Interview

diane kruger

My favorite quote from Diane Kruger’s interview with Interview Magazine:

“I’ve got to tell you, the reason I stopped modeling was because I wasn’t pleased with trying to portray something that is impossible to reach. Even when I do photo shoots now for films, I’m just not interested in trying to look my best all the time anymore. That pursuit of an impossible perfection seems ridiculous to me now. I’d rather show my vulnerabilities or my doubts than try to be something that no one is.”

“Impossible perfection”…surely something to think about.

The Rise of Sienna

sienna

Remember a few years ago, when Sienna Miller was not viewed as a homewrecking person that rhymes with “lot”? Back in a (Jude Law) day, we all felt bad for the poor girl, who was a victim of her man’s wandering eye. Now the tables have turned, and Sluttyenna (dubbed by Perez Hilton) has most recently been vilified for hooking up with a married man (Balthazar Getty), and her dirty laundry took the spotlight away from her style. And she’s always had style. Perhaps not in her conduct, but definitely in her fashion choices.

Thanks to the release of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie, Sienna has been spotted wearing super cute outfits all month long to film premieres worldwide! Diane Kruger is still my favorite girl, but Sienna is back and she’s reminding the world that despite the ongoing drama in her life, she’s still got it in the style department.

One Month of Diane’s Style

diane-kruger

Diane Kruger is one of my favorites! Not necessarily as an actress (haven’t seen her in anything other than Troy), but definitely as a style inspiration! A while ago, Diane has shared that she doesn’t work with a stylist, yet she always looks flawless on the red carpet and in real life (unlike some starlets that do have stylists and a ton of money and still manage to look like leftovers on the side of the road). And to prove this, here’s a few of Diane’s outfits over the course of the month of July 2009 at Berlin Fashion Week, the “Inglourious Basterds” premiere and photocall, at the airport in Berlin, and just out and about. Beautiful, no?

Diane Kruger at the CFDA Awards

Diane Kruger at CFDA

This is why I love Diane Kruger! Presenting at today’s CFDA Awards in NYC, the actress is looking stylish and sexy, showing just the right amount of leg in her little red mini dress. Tres chic!

And this time around I really like Jason Wu’s work! And not just because Michelle Obama picked him to design her inaugural ball gown. Love the shoulders, love the color, love the length! What a fun little dress!

Diane and Joshua at Cannes Film Festival

Diane Kruger is currently in Cannes, promoting the new Quentin Tarantino movie “Inglorious basterds”. I love, love, love Diane! Usually adore her fashion choices, alas not this time. The Chanel outfit that she wore to amfAR’s Cinema against AIDS benefit is neither inspired, nor flattering. While the Marchesa dress that she wore to the screening of the film, is flattering, but not spectacular (I think it’s the pattern that I dislike…looks like a cheap curtain, non?). I am trying so hard to like it, but her fashion choices leave me cold this time.

Joshua Jackson, however, was looking very handsome and dapper; so hot that Diane couldn’t keep her hands to herself! Diane’s fashion savvy has definitely rubbed off on her boyfriend, as lately Joshua has been looking more Bond than Pacey. Oh, Diane, look at the magic that you did with your man! What’s with the boring outfits???
