Style Fille: Diane Kruger in Erdem

We’re almost one whole month into 2012, and I have not yet posted anything Diane Kruger-related. Blasphemy, I know! Well, there was that pastel Golden Globes gown…which I didn’t love, and a couple of other outfits, that she looked amazing in, but weren’t exactly WOW material. And then she wore Erdem

How amazing does she look in this intricate lacy Erdem creation? So beautiful, ethereal, and romantic. On a wrong person, the see-through parts might look cheap-ish, but not on DK…Her hair is simple, accessories minimal, and she looks so damn flawless! Work it, girl! Makes me wish for a piece of Erdem in my own closet…perhaps something on sale at The Room?

But I digress…do you love Diane in her lacy Erdem? Or is it not your cup of tea? Discuss.

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala 2011: Best

There’s no night like the Met’s Costume Institute Gala for fashion porn. To me, not even the Oscars can compete with THE  fashion event that is Met Ball. Which is why, year after year, I keep hoping for more drama, more choices that aren’t exactly safe – something eye-popping, gorgeous, and not boo-ring. This year, there were so many champagne color safe gowns, some really beautiful (Gwyneth Paltrow in Stella McCartney), others (cough*Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney*cough) not so much, but all withouth exception – boring, boring, boring. And though the idea of “Best Dressed” is really a matter of preference and opinion, here are my top 5 best-dressed ladies of the night.

1. Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop Unique

Lovely pop of color and that beautiful face with perfect makeup, and her new-ish pixie. This one was my favorite look of the night.

2. Diane Kruger in Jason Wu

You already know that I love me some Diane. And I felt that her super-high thigh-slit and those gorgeous gams of hers really made this look. So hot!

3. Margherita Missoni in Missoni

A dress that is part sorbet buffet and part Swan Lake…I’m all over it! Love her choice of accessories, and that messy bun. Such a fun, fresh, young look. Love it!

4. Anna Dello Russo in Alexander McQueen

This was rather understated for ADR, no? But I still loved her take on feminine tuxedo-dressing, egg-headpiece and all.

5. Liv Tyler in Givenchy Couture

The entire Spring 2011 Givenchy Couture collection was one of the best in a very long time, and this gown is definitely anything but boring. I love the color, the feathers, and the origami-like detailing. I wish I could wear something this beautiful one day. It’s exquisite!

Do you agree with my picks? Do you think they are hideous? Did you have some other favorites? Discuss in the comments?

Diane Kruger in Glamour March 2011

It is no secret that Diane Kruger is one of my all-time favorite actresses…not because of her acting (even though she is admittedly pretty good), but mainly because of her chic yet effortless-seeming style. This month, Diane is a cover girl for Glamour’s March 2011 issue, and below are some excerpts from her interview with the mag. Girl-crush warning in full effect!

Glamour: .(..) you are super sophisticated. Let’s talk about style and fashion. Today I have to say you…

Diane Kruger: I dressed down?

Glamour: Cardigan, button-down shirt, ballet flats.

Diane Kruger: What can I say? I don’t know about style. I know about my personal style.

Glamour:But you’ve had exposure to a certain level of design. It’s one thing to do a runway show. But Karl Lagerfeld and Francisco Costa are your friends.

Diane Kruger: I truly, genuinely like clothes. Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life—my mood, how I felt—through these clothes.

Glamour: But it is fun to splurge sometimes.

Diane Kruger: I couldn’t agree more! The biggest fashion purchase I ever made I thought about for six years. I’m not kidding. All my life I wanted to own an Hermès Constance bag, and when I signed with Calvin Klein, I decided this was the time that I could afford it. I truly broke a sweat when I paid for it.

More after the jump!

Calvin Klein BEAUTY – It Touches Everything Contest

Huge thanks to Sumaya and Matchstick for hooking me up with the newest Calvin Klein fragrance, called BEAUTY along with some gorgeous calla lilies! Did you know that the calla lily is the only flower allowed at Calvin Klein’s offices and his home? And composition of BEAUTY itself was inspired by the gracious curves and beauty of the calla lily. BEAUTY aims to depict the internal beauty of a woman, her strength and spirit.

“It’s very elegant, and that’s why we wanted to work with Diane (Kruger). This woman we’re trying to portray — she’s not someone who doesn’t have experiences in her life. We wanted this woman to be worldly and well-traveled, a confident woman and a woman who had strength.” said Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American Fragrances at Coty Prestige.

I have to be honest, the scent did seem to be a bit too much for me at first, but upon further applications it really started to grow on me. I like the warm, spicy floral notes of BEAUTY – and the body chemistry makes the scent smell a bit less crisp, and a bit more musky (just the way I like it). Along with the bottle of BEAUTY, I also received a few samples to give to my friends and family, and the feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive.

So, if BEAUTY sounds like something you’d like to try, you might be in serious luck, as FASHION magazine had just launched an amazing contest! All you need to do to enter FASHION magazine’s Calvin Klein BEAUTY It Touches Everything Contest  is submit a photo of what you think is beautiful (can be anything). The contest prize is worth $2500 – and it includes a shopping spree, calla lily deliveries for six months, a basket of CK fragrances, spa day and much more! You will also get a sample of BEAUTY just for entering. Not sure which photo I’m going to submit, but in the meantime – good luck to all of you!

Style Fille: Who Wore it Better

Red can be a tough color to pull off without looking tarty or cheap. All three famous ladies in this post look fab, in my opinion, donning short red frocks, accessorized with leopard print and taupe pumps, motorcycle jackets, and clutches. But which celeb rocked her Little Red Dress the best? Cast your vote below.

Style Fille: Diane Kruger

I do see that it’s getting kind of obsessive at this point, but Diane Kruger is a woman after my heart! I absolutely adore that she paired her jumpsuit with leopard print booties, instead of some predictable variation of cagey sandals. Once again, I love that this girl does her own hair, makeup, styling…she does it all! I know most of you will be like “if I had all these resources at my fingertips, I could do it without a stylist too!”, and perhaps most of you could do it! But if you think about it, Britney Spears has a lot of dough, but does she look stylish? Hellz to the no. And neither did Nicole Richie pre-Zoe. Just saying…Diane is the whole package…which probably doesn’t help my style obsession.

Love, Pétanque and Saint-Tropez

Ok, so I know you might want to break up with me after this post…but I will ask you to reconsider, because though my Diane/Joshua coverage has been excessive, I simply cannot help it. It’s not just that they are sickeningly cute as a couple…what with the stylish yet matchy clothes, lots of PDA, and happily dancing the night away at a Chanel event with some wine in hand after winning a game of pétanque…but they are also so very watchable. Don’t you agree? I hope you agree, because these pictures made me smile today on this gloomy Toronto Tuesday…it made me happy for the two of them, because they seem real, and happy, and in love…and they do represent that young but not too young type of love, where you can’t stop smiling because the person you love is right there beside you, even if just to cheer you on during a silly game, or to share an ice-cream cone with, or to…just be.

I guess, theirs is a publicized love…with photographers usually following their paths most of the time, but it doesn’t feel staged like some couples…cough*Speidi*cough…Josh and Diane do not induce those wishes of painful self-gouging of eyes or nausea…I simply enjoy seeing photos of them, and imagining that they are truly and beautifully in love. And that is why I will continue posting photos of the happy couple…and hope that you might love them as well.

PS. Vanessa Paradis, too, attended Karl Lagerfeld’s celeb game of pétanque, among the many other fashion notables. And I do…oh-so love her too! Obsessed and infatuated.

PPS. Oh, and I sorta kinda get the basket now…where else if not to a Chanel event, right?

Style Fille: Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson

Ok, so technically, only Diane would count as a Style Fille, but I can’t not include Joshua into this one. Not only are they the cutest Hollywood couple ever, but they are probably the most stylish as well. Matchy matchy look for couple is so tricky to pull off, but Diane and Joshua do not look icky or tacky to me in the least! Absolutely in love with her red platform sandals, integrated into an all black/denim outfit…and those his and hers fedoras would look silly or poseur-ish on some people, but they simply have enough “it” to pull them off!

And though I love almost every single aspect of Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson’s airport style, I have to wonder about that basket…Is that the most efficient bag to fly with? Wouldn’t you be worried that your passport would fall out or the whole entire world would see that you’re reading The Shopaholic series on the plane? I know that one of Diane’s preferred brands – Chanel – did feature baskets in their Spring 2010 show, but I am still not convinced that I’d put all of my travel essentials in one. Would you?

The Met’s Costume Institute Gala 2010: Best

Wow, with the exception of Coco Rocha’s Zac Posen aqua-delic gown, my other Best Dressed picks are all solids. Oh my! And while I do believe that it’s best to be brave for an event like the Met’s Gala, I cannot help but be drawn and inspired by these ladies (and gentleman). It is my Best Dressed list, after all, so please don’t hate me too much if we don’t see eye to eye.

Rocha’s Zac Posen gown is absolutely beautiful! I think it was a brave pick and I love Coco for it! My all-time fave Diane Kruger in Calvin Klein and her cute boyfriend Joshua Jackson both sizzled on the red carpet, and though her dress is very similar to the one Ashley Olsen wore last year, I think Diane makes it look fresh for 2010 with her minimalistic hair and accessories.

Kerry Washington in Thakoon for Gap looked red-hot, while Rachel Weisz in custom Oscar de la Renta looked so pretty and radiant – I had to include her in the lineup! And finally, Zoe…looking statuesque and gorgeous in her one-shouldered Calvin Klein gown - simplicity never looked better.

Do you agree with my picks? Do you think they are too safe? Sound off in the comments. Next up – the bold and the brave of the Met’s 2010 Gala!

Cutest Couple Ever!

I’ve professed my love for Josh and Diane many times before, but still…they are my favorite Hollywood couple, and I couldn’t not share these photos with you. Here’s Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger loving it up in Paris and New York City, looking cute and stylish in the process.

In other Diane news, according to WWD, Calvin Klein Inc. and Coty Inc. will reveal today that Diane Kruger — who will be attending tonight’s Costume Institute opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa — is the face of the brand’s newest fragrance, Calvin Klein Beauty, due out this fall. Kruger will appear in print and television advertising, and joins a long list of notables who have appeared in Calvin Klein fragrance advertising, including Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes.”

So happy! Because that means we’ll be seeing much more of the German beauty, and hopefully her adorable boyfriend too!

Josh and Diane in Toronto

Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger were in Toronto last night and I didn’t even get a glimpse??? Sucks! Not that I am obsessed with either one of them, but I do think they truly are one of the cutest and real-est couples in Hollywood. Diane was on Josh’s hand to support him in his Genie Award win and, as always, she looked très chic – this time in a Roland Mouret dress, which she most likely picked out without any help from a stylist. Josh is so lucky to have such a stylish and classy girl in his life. Love them both!

Oscars 2010: Best Dressed

Ruffles, and Notten, and Kruger, oh my! It wasn’t too tough to choose my fave four ladies on the Oscars red carpet last night, since so many actresses opted for pretty, but safe gowns, that only elicited a reaction of “meh” from me and my. Not so with these four ladies. My favorite of the night was Vera Farmiga’s ruffly fuchsia frock. Ruffles are tricky, and not everyone can pull them off without looking overpowered, but Farmiga managed to look fresh, stunning, and definitely not safe or meh. Finally, someone with a bit of imagination and guts on the red carpet!

The same can be said about Maggie Gyllenhaal. The aquatic print, the streamlined cut, the pink lips – it all adds up to an outfit that could look all sots of bad on a wrong person, but on Maggie it’s perfection (if only slightly too wrinkled for my taste). I loved her Dries Van Notten abstract print dress the moment I saw it!

It took me a bit longer to love Diane Kruger’s Chanel Haute Couture pick. The midsection ruffles appeared to look distracting at first, but the confidence with which she wore it, and the gorgeous back of her dress, made me love it the more I saw it! I’ve mentioned before that Diane doesn’t have a stylist, and on this occasion (as with many others), I fully support her gown choice! Plus, Lucky Magazine, reported that Kruger did her own makeup for the big night! How cool is that? I think she did a great job!

My final best dressed pick is Zoe Saldana. Saldana’s Golden Globes dress was not a safe choice, and neither is her Oscars Givenchy gown. It’s pouffy, with a bejeweled bodice, and with what looks like pom-poms all over the train of her skirt, but the color looks fantastic with her complexion, the “pom-poms” look fun and intricate, and I happen to love the blingy neckline. It’s fun to look at, and I am sure it was fun to wear!

SAG Awards Favorites

I know that I’m a bit late on this one…but I couldn’t avoid posting about my fave SAG Awards dresses! Especially, considering the beautiful Jason Wu gown that Diane Kruger wore! Apparently, the model-turned-actress helped Wu design her marigold frock. It does remind me of that Michelle Willams dress from the Oscars, but I still love it oh-so-much! Paired with that make-up, and beautiful jewelry, I think Diane is definitely my choice for best-dressed! My list also includes Kate Hudson, in another Oscar doppelganger (remember Hillary Swank’s bum-plunging dress?), Marion Cotillard, and Sookie Anna Paquin, in a daring and very au-courant McQueen dress. Love these ladies and their choices! Didn’t do a Globes post, because most dresses were snoozefest (at least for me). SAGs, however, did not disappoint!

Are you looking forward to the Oscars’ fashion face-off? I know, I am!

I didn’t want to make this just another Diane Kruger post, so here are my picks for Best Dressed at 2010 People’s Choice Awards.
