H&M Style Face-off x VitaminDaily.com

Most of you already know that my love for H&M runs deep. It’s one of those stores that keeps popping up over and over (and over and over) again on my bank statement month after month – I think I might just be addicted. So when Vitamin Daily asked me to contribute to a promo that involved H&M, I didn’t have to think twice. I think my response might’ve been to the extent of ”YESWHEREDOISIGNIAMSOHAPPYILOVEH&M”.

So here’s the deal: I, among some really cool bloggers (Beckerman sisters, Stefania of Textstyles, It Girl Anya, and a few others) had to stop by an H&M store, style a mannequin, and take some photos of our final masterpiece(s).

What for? Well, Vitamin Daily is holding a super fun H&M Style Face-off contest, which just went live, and you…yes YOU can win $100 H&M gift card, simply by voting on your favorite mannequin. Seriously…that’s ALL you have to do – Like Vitamin Daily’s Facebook Page, then click Like on your fave look (1 per person), sit back, and hope that you won.

And while I’m not going to twist your arm and make you vote for my creation (do it!), I do think she looks mighty cute. And if you do decide to vote for Style Blog’s mannequin – I have a bribe chocolate bar with your name on it…though I will probably eat it myself…but I’ll think of you while eating it! Deal?

I will admit though, I do have some crazy-good competition – I, myself, adore all of the looks that other bloggers put together, so if you don’t vote for blonde Nelly Jr., I won’t hold it against you (but no chocolate for you!).

So what are you waiting for? Visit Vitamin Daily Facebook Page to enter H&M Style Face-off contest now!

What I Wore: Princess

Last week, thanks to the awesome folks over at Frantic Films, I got to film a guest spot on the Slice TV show – Princess. If you haven’t seen this reality show – it’s basically about spoiled girls that spend way too much money on makeup/clothes/hair/going out, then milk their friends/family/boyfriends for money, while accumulating a lot of debt in the process. The show’s host and Financial Guru Gail Vaz-Oxlade teaches these “princesses” to live within their means through a series of challenges.

My role in one of the challenges was to critique Sarah-The-Princess’ blog post about style on a student’s budget. It was really exhillarating to have been able to participate in the filming…mostly because I had to push my personal anxieties aside, and step out of my comfort zone to be able to do it.

I’m not exactly sure what my 10 seconds of fame will look like, given that I was trembling like a leaf on the inside…but hopefully I wasn’t a spectacular failure at my first attempt at reality TV. Thank goodness for the wonderful crew, that helped me feel as comfortable as I possibly could. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

As for my outfit…I’ve been getting LOTS of compliments, quizzical looks, and “where did you buy it” questions about this skirt. And the truth is - it was somewhat of a DIY. I chopped off most of the lining to give it a breezy, see-through look, but other than that – it’s from (and courtesy of) Gap! You like?

I Wore: Top – H&M; Skirt – c/o Gap (DIY); Scarf – Alexander McQueen (Holt Renfrew); Shoes – Urban Outfitters; Bag – Prada; Bracelet – BCBG; Ring – YSL; Sunglasses – Ray Ban

What I Wore: Apples and Oranges

Sorry for slow-mo posting this week…and for being horrid at responding to your emails. My brain is on vacation…so…yeah. You might also ask…”Why apples and oranges? There’s no fruit in sight!” Well, I was going to call this post Orange You Glad…but it turns out that I used that clever name already…so Apples and Oranges it is. Brain vacay…it’s a thing.

Anywhooo…Here’s what I wore last weekend for Pride in Toronto. A little bit of colorblocking, and the new fave shoes in my closet - Flare x Aldo collab wedges. Nice and summery. Short and sweet. Like this post.

Have a lovely weekend!!!

What I Wore: School’s Out For Summer

Here’s a quick look at what I wore to Lisa and Wendy’s Hip & Urban Girl anniversary at SCHOOL. This Missoni skirt is by far, one of my most favorite Winners finds ever. It wasn’t cheap, but since I can wear it as a skirt and as a dress – this double duty makes it worth every penny. And the colors, the knit, the pattern…love it all so much!

And once again…the Levi’s denim jacket. It’s practically second skin to me, especially with this ever-changing weather – it keeps me warm, while looking cool. Right? RIGHT?

What I Wore: Skirt worn as a dress – Missoni (Winners); Denim Jacket – c/o Levi’s; Belt, Friendship Bracelets, Rings - H&M; Bag – c/o Ecco; Shoes – Zara; Turquoise Ring – YSL; Bracelet – BCBG

What I Wore: SMUT Soiree

Here’s what I wore to Lainey Gossip’s SMUT on Monday! My brand new Topshop skirt in one of my fave colors ever – mustard, a cheapie printed shirt via Forever21, some fun beaded bracelets from H&M, and of course, my favorite Pierre Hardy heels from The Room. I am in serious love with the skirt, and have a feeling that I’ll be wearing it all summer long. Oh yes, I will.

Having said that, as I mentioned, the four most stylish gossipettes are competing to win the big $2K prize from The Bay, and if you have a few minutes, you should totally vote for your favorite! One of the candidates is already featured on Style Blog, and she definitely has my vote. Who will you be voting for?

I Wore: Skirt – Topshop (The Bay); Top – Forever21; Necklace – Kate Spade; Shoes – Pierre Hardy (The Room); Bracelets – H&M, The Bay, BCBG; Rings – H&M, Forever21, YSL; Belt – Zara; Backpack – Chanel

What I Wore: Panthers, and Rabbits, and Planking, Oh My!

This is what my cat looks like when he gets mad at me, fangs exposed, mouth snarling, eyes wide open…bracing to attack. Scary, no? It’s ok though, because I can stand up for myself. This (below) is my hissing face. This way Pepper (my cat) knows not to mess with me.

Anyway, I wore this to last weekend’s 1000 Tastes of Toronto, which was disappointing to say the least (more like 10 Tastes of Toronto). Thank goodness, le boyfriend and I bought only 2 tickets each (and ended up using only 3 out of 4). Post 1000 Tastes, the rest of the afternoon was spent chasing fake rabbits, attempting planking on said rabbits (which were extremely hot to the touch), and trying to avoid the MMVAs at all cost. Don’t you just love summer?

I Wore: Top – Topshop (The Bay); Shorts – Banana Republic; Bag – c/o Ecco; Hat, Bracelets, Sunglasses - H&M; Bracelet – BCBG; Shoes – Old Navy

What I Wore: LG Innovators’ Ball

Did you see that The Coveteur post on Suzanne Rogers’ closet? I mean, Carrie’s closet looks like a homeless man’s smelly refrigerator box home compared to Suzanne’s Marie Antoinette-esque closet grandeur and selection. And compared to mine? Well, I won’t even go there.

Case in point, my dress here, that I wore to the LG Innovators’ Ball last week – whooping $25 at Forever 21! Booyah! Eat your heart out, Suzanne Rogers. Eat. Your. Heart. Out.

But in all seriousness, y’all, I am pretty happy with the way my cheapie dress looks here…so long and flowy (and super comfy), and as an added bonus I will also be able to pay my rent, so there’s that.

Organic Style: Prom at the ROM: Into The Wild

I already shared my Prom (horror) story with you, and as you might know, because of it, I got to attend Prom at the ROM: Into the Wild  fundraising event last month. As the theme of the evening suggested, attendees had to go wild with their outfits, and oh-so-many of them really did! There were animal ears and tails, feathers, masks, and animal prints galore (oh my!) - all in support of the Young Patrons’ Circle.

Le boyfriend and I had a blast of a time, and I was just a tiniest bit disappointed that no slow songs were played (the DJ told us that he wasn’t allowed)…what’s a Prom without any slow jams? Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the night, met some fun people, and snapped photos of the wildest attendees at every opportunity. I think my second go at Prom was much more successful than the first…and as an extra bonus, le boyfriend and I can now truthfully say that we were each other’s Prom dates. Yeah, yeah…we’re that couple. Don’t judge!

More after the jump!

What I Wore: I’m Like a Bird

When I saw Flare Magazine’s “Prom Part Deux” contest entry requirements, I knew I had to try my luck. All I needed to do was write about my own Prom, and describe why I might deserve to have another go at it. After finding out that I won 2 tickest to the Prom at the ROM event, as well as $1000 gift certificate from BCBG, I was seriously jumping for joy. But upon further reflection, me #WINNING meant that I truly did have the best worst Prom story ever. And that, my friends, is hella sad.

Not to rehash my way too long Prom fail story, here’s just a quick summary of things that happened on Prom night (and before):

- Lost luggage on my way to Prom (dress, shoes, accessories…everything!)
- Couldn’t find a last-minute dress replacement, so I went with a very simple aka blah choice
- My mom’s hairstylist gave my shoulder-length hair some major whippage, making me look very Marge Simpson (sans le bleu)
- At Prom, my first attempt at dancing resulted in a broken heel
- Best friend loaned me some shoes from her mom’s car – black rubber cloggy type monstrosities
- Oh, and since I’ve spent my senior year studying abroad, I went without a date

So you might see now that I needed another chance at Prom. After much consideration, I went with this BCBG Max Azria Runway number. It was just too perfect for twirling, and I fell in love with the pleated side-skirt-thingamajig.

So, thank you Flare, for giving me a chance to experience Prom again…this time with a great date, a lovely dress, and a pair of heels that didn’t buckle on me. One could even say that I…had…the time of my life! And I owe it all to you.

White Space Launch at The Bay Yorkdale

If you like The Room at the Queen St. Bay store, then you will love the brand new White Space at Yorkdale. As I’ve mentioned before, The Bay has been consistently improving and brightening up their stores, bringing in new and well-established brands, making the shopping experience so much better and so much more fun. At last week’s launch party, Al and I found out just how much fun shopping at White Space is.

The spacious and well-lit women’s contemporary department is filled with brands like Love Moschino, See by Chloé, killer shoes by Sam Edelman, party dresses by BCBG, pretty prints by ADAM, lovely separates by Sandro - that’s a whole lot of beautiful clothes! It’s so refreshing to see great brand name selection at a Canadian department store…perhaps in the near future it’ll become a regular occurrence? Fingers crossed.

After going around the room taking some photos, Al and I got to enjoy the most delicious Amarula Colada cocktails, a complimentary candy bar (Chupa Chups!!!), and a Fall Trends presentation by FASHION’s own Sarah Casselman. We were hoping to meet Adam Lippes, designer and creative director or ADAM, but unfortunately, he could not make it to the party due to a hurt foot (ouch!).

I also got to meet a few lovely Style Blog readers, and took photos of the stylish attendees, which included Daniel Buckman of BELLOSOUND, and the always fashionable Nolan Bryant, who was lucky enough to win a fun prize basket, courtesy of The Bay!

I think it goes without saying that if you love beautiful clothes, then a trip to The Bay’s White Space is a must. And their revamped shoe department? It begs a whole post of its own!

Miss J. Alexander Celebrity Walk Off at Holt Renfrew

What did I do last Saturday, when it rained buckets outside? Why, I WERKed it with Miss J. Alexander! Ok, I didn’t actually WERK it with him, but I sure did get a chance to meet his fabulous self and snap up his new book “Follow the Model”. Holts’ “Celebrity Walk Off Event” drew a sizable and fashionable crowd, including Anita of I Want-I Got, Amy Verner of Globe and Mail, and MTV’s Dan Levy among others.

Al and I got a chance to eat some cotton candy, chat with some women that seemed to worship the ground Miss J struts on, and of course, meet the one and only. Another highlight of my day was actually meeting Amy Verner in person. She’s gorgeous, and very lovely! I, also, spotted many stylish peeps, whose photos you can see below. All in all, it was a fun event, and worth the wait. My only gripe is that I missed the actual walk off, hence no photos. But I am sure everyone did fantastic…or as Miss Verner put it, at least noone became “fashion roadkill” ala Sex and the City.

Of course those glasses are Chanel. Why do I even bother to ask. What a great outfit!

What I’m Wearing: BCBG Dresses

bcbg

Ok, so this post has been way overdue, but in my defense, last week was a very busy one! I tried on these dresses at Flare’s 30th anniversary party that was held at BCBG on Bloor St. West in Toronto. The one above was by far my favorite, mostly because of the fit – like it was made for me! I also loved the flowered strap…although le boyfriend would probably call it a snake, or whatever else he’d come up with (he called a shoulder bow from a French Connection dress a parrot!).

The fit of the maxi dress below is also quite nice, but the color is too muted, no? It has that slightly dirty-ish look to me. I guess I’m a fan of defined colors: true blue, red, purple, but not dirty blue, or washed out red. You understand, right? But otherwise, it would’ve been a perfect dress for Jen’s wedding in January. If only it came in a brighter color!

bcbg2

The last dress, especially from the front, is not very evening-appropriate, but the back is so cool (excuse the bikini line), that I had to try it on! The lovely sales lady also picked out the shiny belt for the dress, which I must admit, really did make the dress look better! In the end, I didn’t buy any of them, first of all because I still have plenty of time (couple of months), and second, I must really love the dress in order to spend $500 on one, and unfortunately, as cute as these dresses were, they weren’t “it”. I did, however, buy a dress in Buffalo last weekend. And I think it might just be “the one”! Stay tuned!
