Shopping: The Outnet End of Season Extra 40% Off Sale!

outnet-extra-40-percent-off-sale-2015
I’m pretty bummed that summer is almost over, but I’m definitely not sad about all the summer sales that are happening all around me. The latest, courtesy of The Outnet is pretty major – extra 40% off already heavily discounted designer merchandise. Even without the extra discount, The Outnet prices are usually pretty incredible, but with an additional 40% off – there’s no doubt about it – it’s time to get our shop on!

And while the sale is technically on mostly summery wares, I combed through the offerings to select my fave pieces that would be perfect for the upcoming fall – from the classic LBDs to the statement outerwear, there’s something on The Outnet for everyone. But don’t delay, the sale will be over in 24 hours…Ready, set, shop!

What I Wore: Oversized

oak-and-fort-shirt-dress-missoni-converse-11

I have no idea why it’s taken me this long to discover Oak + Fort, but now that I have, I feel like a woman obsessed! Seriously…what’s not to love? The brand is Canadian, with affordable price points, and a hella-stylish selection. The fact that most offerings are perfectly monochromatic is definitely part of the attraction – you can mix and match their pieces seamlessly with your existing wardrobe items, or just re-build from scratch with errythang Oak + Fort…you will certainly want to wear their pieces over and over again.

Take this oversized black shirt dress for example – ever since I picked it up last week, I’ve been drawn to it every morning – it’s so easy to throw on, and looks just as good with sneakers as it does with heels…I think I may just need one in every colour!

They also have a friend referral program, so if you want 15% off your first online purchase, leave a comment below and I’ll send you an invite link! I’ll also get $25 credit for every first purchase, so it’s a win-win.

Have you ever shopped at Oak + Fort? What do you think of this Canadian brand? Share in the comments.

Shopping: H&M Studio Fall 2015 Collection Lookbook

hm-studio-aw15-collection-lookbook6
I wrote about H&M Studio Fall 2015 collection back in March, and now that the September 10th launch of the collection is mere days away, we have campaign images, as well as photos of the entire collection! And while you may not want to think about fall just yet, some of the pieces are bound to sell out, so planning ahead is a must.

For me, standouts from the collection include outerwear, leather and printed pieces; I also love the strappy camis that would be a great addition to anyone’s wardrobe. I will be previewing the collection later this week, so watch my Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for the up-close-and-personal pics!

Shopping: Andrew Coimbra Fall 2015 Collection Ad Campaign

andrew-coimbra-fall-2015-ad-campaign
I don’t often write about menswear on the site, but Andrew Coimbra’s designs don’t just work for men – a lot of the pieces from his collections can actually be worn by both sexes. Andrew, who’s worked with such renowned Canadian brands like Pink Tartan and Philip Sparks, and interned with Proenza Schouler in New York City, is a talented young, who certainly should have a bright future ahead of him. His modern cuts, stellar prints, and tongue-in-cheek details should earn him all the accolades he deserves, but as is often the case in Canada, we don’t start supporting our homegrown talent until they have already made it abroad. Here’s hoping Andrew Coimbra can achieve that here on home turf.

Travel: CHANEL Saint-Tropez Ephemeral Boutique

01---CHANEL-Saint-Tropez-ephemeral-boutique---2015---pictures-by-Olivier-Saillant_LD
If you needed another reason to visit the South of France, CHANEL may have just given you one. This summer, CHANEL set up its ephemeral bouique at the private mansion La Mistralée in Saint-Tropez, showcasing Ready-to-Wear, accessories, watches, and fine jewellery collections, as well as fragrances, skincare, and beauty.

Taking inspiration from the iconic CHANEL handbag interiors, the floors of the mansion are painted burgundy red, while the tiles around the pool remind visitors of the signature CHANEL quilting. A huge white and gold camellia can be found adorning the sunroom’s ceiling, while floral wallpaper adds a splash of colour to various rooms of the mansion.

The nearby pool house, stocked with beauty, fragrances, and beachwear, overlooks the the luxurious pool with an oversized floating camellia. It looks so tempting, but I’d imagine that taking a dip would be frowned upon.

So if you find yourself in sunny Saint-Tropez this summer, make sure to do some shopping at the ephemeral boutique, snap a photo of the floating camellia, and relax poolside surrounded by everything CHANEL…The boutique will be open until October 2015, so there’s still time!

Mary Katrantzou x Adidas Originals 2015 Collection

Mary-Katrantzou-x-Adidas-Originals-Dress-Shoes-Lookbook-2015

If you’re a fan of Mary Katrantzou’s masterfully printed frocks, but can’t justify the hefty price tag, then Mary Katrantzou x adidas Originals collection is going to be right up your alley! This is the second ‘fashion meets athleisure’ collaboration between the two brands, and it’s amazing!

The first collection, while pretty cute, was too heavy-handed for my taste – giant shoe lace prints all over the place are not my idea of casual chic. But this collection is different – the athletic theme is still clearly present (tennis racquets, badminton shuttlecocks, baseballs, darts) but this time, executed in a more subtle way. There are dresses that look like they could easily belong in Katrantzou’s regular line-up, as well as more casual pieces perfect for those sporty fashion-lovers.

In Canada, select pieces from the collection can be found exclusively at Hudson’s Bay online or at The Room in Toronto and Vancouver. If you’re in another part of the world, Shopbop carries some styles, while most of the collection can be found on MaryKatrantzou.com.

I already ordered my fave pieces, and if you’re into any of the styles, I recommend snagging them ASAP…lots of sizes are already gone online. Good luck and happy shopping!

Lily-Rose Depp in CHANEL Pearl Eyewear Collection Campaign

lily-rose-depp-chanel-pearl-eyewear-collection-sunglasses-2015
Lily-Rose Depp has just landed her first CHANEL Campaign, so it’s safe to say that if you didn’t know who she was before, you will now. With parents like the forever-chic Vanessa Paradis and once-upon-a-time heartthrob Johnny Depp, this is certainly not the last we’ll see of the beautiful young actress, but what a campaign to debut with!

Karl Lagerfeld had this to say about choosing the newest CHANEL ambassador for the Pearl eyewear collection campaign: “Lily-Rose is stunning, she’s a young girl from a new generation with all the qualities of a star”. She certainly is. Some actors just have that je ne sais quoi, and Lily-Rose has it in spades – the looks, the charisma, and now, that coveted CHANEL campaign!

Speaking of CHANEL…the Pearl eyewear pieces are just stunning! Round frames embellished with pearls and finished with rose-coloured tint – I’m already obsessed!

So what do you think of Lily-Rose as the face of CHANEL Pearl eyewear collection? Are you loving the sunnies? Share in the comments.

Beauty: Summer Essentials

Summer Beauty 2015
Summertime is upon us and with it come the sunny days, beach getaways, melting makeup, and frizzy hair. To help you avoid these beauty fails this summer, I wanted to share with you my tried and true summer beauty essentials – from the perfect CC cream, to lip-gloss that won’t stick.

1. CHANEL CC Cream with SPF
Once summer rolls around, I try not to wear foundation too often. Mostly, because I don’t want to look like a cakey mess by the time that patio brunch is over, but also, because I may or may not be too lazy to do it every day. CHANEL to the rescue! The brand’s CC Cream is everything your skin needs and more – it has perfectly lightweight, but buildable coverage, SPF 30 & 50, moisturizing and correcting benefits, anti-aging and anti-oxidant properties…and it works!

2. Schwarzkopf BLONDME Colour Correction Spray Conditioner
If you’re a platinum blonde, grey haired maven, or just a cool blonde who hates the yellow tones, sunshine is likely your worst enemy. Blonde hair tends to take on more warm hues in the summer simply due to sun exposure, but this little miracle spray by Schawrzkopf helps keep those yellow tones away. It doesn’t work as well as toning at a salon, but it does help extend my colour and protect my tresses from the sun. It is also very lightweight and won’t weigh your hair down. If you need even more toning, the rest of the BLONDME line is also very good. I particularly loved their highly-pigmented purple shampoo and Keratin Restore mask.

3. Redken Frizz Dismiss Fly-Away Fix
Speaking of summer hair…I know I’m not the only one whose hair turns into a frizzball on those balmy days. Well, Redken’s new Frizz Dismiss line offers the first-ever Frizz Protection Factor (FPF) with 4 levels of smoothing and humidity protection for all hair types—from fine to coarse. “Frizz Dismiss offers heat and humidity protection with a sulfate-free, sodium chloride-free cleansing system. It is safe for chemically straightened hair. Frizz Protection Factor (FPF), the first-ever professional scale, allows you to choose the protection you need based on hair type and humidity level.” And while the lavender oil-infused fly-away fix sheets offer the lowest FPF, they are very handy for travel and on-the-go. Just grab a sheet, run it through frizzy hair and voila – static and fly-aways eliminated. If you live in a particularly humid area, or have coarse hair, go for a higher FPF product like Frizz Dismiss FPF 40 Rebel Tame leave-in smoothing control cream or Frizz Dismiss FPF 30 Instant Deflate leave-in smoothing serum.

Styled by Nelia: Wear Canada for Canada Day

Canada Day is around the corner and this year we wanted to showcase some of the wonderful Canadian brands available at Yorkdale. Some, like HBC Collection are iconic and can be found in many Canadian homes, while others like Erin Kleinberg and ela handbags are less mainstream, but nevertheless deserve your attention.

If you did a quick glance inside your wardrobe, how many Canadian brands would you find there? Adding just a few more Canadian pieces to your wardrobe every now and then would help support local brands and designers, while promoting Canadian fashion industry in general. So many designers have to leave the country in order to find popularity, and it’s really sad, because the talent is all here, we just need to help nourish it.

yorkdale-wear-canada
So next time you’re looking for a work outfit, skip your fave fast-fashion retailer and consider picking up a few well-made items from Judith & Charles or Pink Tartan (avail at Holt Renfrew). Instead of buying a “designer” purse, invest in a timeless bag by ela or Mackage (avail at Holt Renfrew and Mendocino). Buy a stunning Dean Davidson (avail at Holt Renfrew) or Jackson Rowe (avail at Mendocino) jewelry piece that you’ll keep forever, or a trendy Brave leather belt (available at Mendocino) that will go with all of your outfits.

yorkdale-wear-canada3
Once you take a look around, it’s really easy to find cool Canadian brands, and Yorkdale carries so many – ALDO, Aritzia, Brave, Cougar, Danier, Dean Davidson, Dsquared2, Dynamite, ela handbags, Erin Kleinberg, HBC Collection, Honey, Jackson Rowe, Judith & Charles, Mackage, Pink Tartan, RW&Co, RUDSAK, Tristan, Wilfred, and so many more!

yorkdale-wear-canada5
I’m not saying that you should avoid all non-Canadian brands, but with so many amazing local designers, adding a few more Canadian pieces to your wardrobe should be a breeze. And what better time to start than Canada Day?

Share your fave Canadian designers in the comments, and HAPPY CANADA DAY!
