Wishlist: Alexander Wang Spring 2012 Pumps

Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and this is what I want to see under the Christmas tree…err…I mean under my nose, first thing in the morning when I wake up on February 14th. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge. I want these Alexander Wang Bianca/Joan Spring 2012 strappy pumps or bust. Nevermind the fact that they aren’t yet available online (well, not on any of the sites I frequent), because if le bf truly wants to make these happen, he just will. Unreasonable expectations? Never!

But seriously, ladies (and gents?), aren’t these ah-mazing? I think I would probably buy a pair in black…but the cream pumps also look pretty tempting for spring. Thoughts?

Zara Spring 2012 Lookbook

What do you think of this Spring 2012 Zara Lookbook, featuring Saskia de Brauw? At first, I thought it was pretty blah (save for those kick-ass shorts)…without much color, energy, or anything whatsoever that would make me go ZARASPRINGOMGYES! Upon closer inspection, I must admit that I have completely changed my mind. I am actually loving these soft, subtle pieces…like the cream bouclé trench coat. Isn’t it just perfect? Chic, and simple, and yes, I know that I already typed that…perfect. And just because the picture was all-white, I almost dismissed it altogether. Tsk, tsk…must pay closer attention next time.

Other pieces on my honeymoon-must-buy list are the aforementioned shorts (am all over that print), and possibly the sheer panel pants (depending on how sheer they are). What about you? Have you give this lookbook another look? Or do you still find it blah and boring? Share in the comments.

Roots Spring 2012 Preview

Last week, a few of my blogger friends and I hit up the Bloor Street Roots store to check out their Spring 2012 goodies. And as you see, we all found something to love. Though I’ve always been a fan of Roots’ leather accessories, the preview made me reconsider the brand’s seriously stylish outerwear options.

First thing that caught my eye, and one that I seriously did not want to take off, was a cognac leather moto vest. How lovely is it? With a modern cut, and supple leather, it’s a perfect layering piece for any outfit this spring. And there was so much more! Varsity jackets, making a huge comeback, are available in a variety of fabrics and colors, without too many logos and adornments. Some of my favorites included a nylon jacket with leather sleeves – perfect in its simplicity, and a perforated leather vest – another item I wouldn’t mind adding to my (tiny) closet.

As expected, the collection featured a lot of bright colors, and I loved the addition of summer sandals to the shoe lineup. Not sure if Roots carried sandals before…but this year’s styles looked cute and comfy.

What do you think of Roots’ Spring 2012 Collection? Share in the comments.

Winners Spring 2012 Preview

In case you needed a reminder…it’s almost February. And what does that mean? Only a couple of months until spring! Hooray! Earlier this month, I attended Winners’ Spring 2012 Preview, showcasing some of the cutest and most affordable spring clothes I’ve seen in a while. From flirty dresses, to lovely shoes, to swimsuits-galore, to colorful denim (under $20 no less) – there’s definitely something for everyone! And I seriously can’t wait to see it all in stores. Actually, some of the pieces are already available at select locations nationwide, like the below Missoni-esque dress, which I’d spotted last week at the Bloor St. location.

I also spotted more than a few amazing high-end designer pieces, which in Toronto, should be available at Bloor St, College St, and Queen St (and Portland) locations…I certainly wouldn’t mind adding a lacy Valentino frock to my wardrobe…or a pair of grey lacy pants. Simply gorgeous!

Do you shop at Winners often? Which location is your favorite for scoring the best deals? Share your tips in the comments.

Marni at H&M First Ad Revealed!

Back in November, it was announced that Marni would be the next designer to collaborate with one of my fave fast fashion brands – H&M! Well, a couple of months later, we have the first image from the collab’s ad campaign, featuring Imogen Poots! I simply adore the luxurious and moody feel of this ad…and it definitely makes me want to see more. The collection will hit the stores on March 8th, but I hope we’ll be seeing a few more sneak peeks in the meantime.

What do you think of this first look at Marni x HM ad campaign? Let me know in the comments.

Sandro Paris Spring 2012 Lookbook

I don’t know about you, but I am done with winter. D.O.N.E. Even though we’ve had it pretty good this year, I still can’t stand the cold, the slush, and the bundling up. So today, I’d rather daydream of sunny days, floral prints, and pops of color all over, courtesy of Sandro Paris’ Spring 2012 Lookbook!

There are so many Sandro pieces that I would love to add to my wardrobe this spring: leather jackets (especially the one in red/orange), blue tailored cropped trousers for work, a yellow dress for my honeymoon, and those awesome floral shorts for warm summer nights out.

What do you think of Sandro’s Spring 2012 wares? Did anything catch your eye? Share in the comments.

WedLuxe Wedding Show 2012

Earlier this month, I attended the first annual WedLuxe Wedding Show at Toronto’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Actually, it was my first wedding show ever, and I think after this one…all other shows would pale in comparison. From the entrance, adorned with a curtain of roses, to the beautifully decorated and displayed vendor “booths”, to the Kate Spade-inspired (complimentary) high-tea room, to the Mad Men-inspired groom’s lounge, to “The WedLuxe Beauty Boutique”, filled to the brim with swag and free beauty treatments…I could stay there all day long.

And if you’re a bride, planning a wedding, there’s no better place to meet with potential vendors, and get some awesome ideas for your big day. Some of my fave booths included, Cake Opera (macaron cake, anyone?), Cakes by Konstadin (gorgeous Russian doll cakes), cute Paper and Poste invitations, Patricia’s Cake Creations’ lovely cupcakes and beautiful cakes, Cake Museum’s artfully designed edible creations, Truffle Cake and Pastry’s everything, Whimsical Wedding Cakes’ err…whimsical wedding cakes…and so many more. Obviously, I was mostly drawn to the edible booths…and how could I not be? Those cakes, cupcakes, and other deserts were so exquisite…that it actually made me doubt my own decision to get married abroad.

This year’s WedLuxe Wedding Show was packed to the brim with excited brides, wedding ideas galore, and only the best of Toronto’s wedding vendors. And considering that this was WedLuxe’s very first show, I can imagine that their future events will be even more luxurious and fun.

Have you attended the first annual WedLuxe Wedding Show this month? What did you think? Share in the comments.

Wishlist: Proenza Schouler’s Valentine’s Day Collection

Isn’t it just the best when two awesome things combine to create something even better? Like peanut butter and chocolate, or ice-cream and apple pie? Well, the boys men of Proenza Schouler have just released a Valentine’s Day-inspired capsule collection…and it’s glorious! Better than any Reese’s cup you’ve ever tasted.

Gorgeous bags, clutches, and wallets in red leather and chain straps – make my heart explode with WANT. Prices range from $785 for a PS1 wallet on a chain, to a whopping $6,825 for a lizard leather PS11. Pretty pricey, that’s for sure, but still super beautiful.

VISA Everyday Shopper Program: Day 5 Giveaway!

Sponsored Post

Wow…five days flew by so quickly, and this is my final post for the VISA Everyday Shopper Program. Here’s what I bought with $50 each day.

Day 2: Pizza Lunch ($4.15), H&M Dress ($45.14)
Day 3: Jimmy The Greek Lunch ($10.56), Twix ($1.68), Salad King Dinner ($28.45)
Day 4: Tamarind Indian Lunch ($12.06), Cadbury Creme Egg Minis and Gum ($7.10), Longo’s Groceries ($26.47)
Day 5: Make-up Session at Sephora ($50)

From Day 1 to Day 5, I’ve spent a total of $234.16 on everyday items, and earned a total of 234 points, getting me a bit closer to that coveted new laptop! And all I had to do was buy the things I would purchase anyway, using my good old VISA. Obviously, this is only worth it, if you pay off your balance at the end of each month – I would never encourage you to go on wild shopping sprees using your credit card, if you couldn’t afford the things you’d purchased! So please, exercise caution.

With that said, since you’ve been so awesome, joining me on my spending/collecting adventure, I want to share the goodies…aka a $50 Prepaid VISA Card that you can use to buy your very own everyday items!

Rules of the giveaway after the jump!

OBJECT by George Antonopoulos for Danier Spring 2012 Lookbook

Remember when I was all like ”George Antonopoulos is a creative genius, and I want to have his babies!!!”? No? I guess that was all in my head, then. But seriously, you guys. Spring 2012 lookbook for George’s OBJECT for Danier Leather Collection landed in my inbox today, and I simply cannot contain my excitement! As expected, it’s gorgeous! Having seen most of the pieces at last year’s preview, I am still awed by the collection, modeled by the Canadian stunner Tara Gill. The beautiful cuts, vivid hues, and perfect styling – all combined, make for a pretty lethal combo – making my wallet weep with anticipation of what’s to come (complete and total credit card annihilation).

So far I’m calling dibs on blue leather pants, pink leather skirt, brown leather shorts, grey suede tank, and yellow (or pink) suede dress. What about you guys? Does this lookbook make you more excited about the upcoming spring season? Are you dying to get your paws on some of the pieces from George’s second collection with Danier? Share the excitement in the comments!

Travel: Packing Light

I’m not going to claim to be an expert on packing or travel….BUT, I do travel a heck of a lot, and always…always without checking my baggage. In the past, I’ve had a few a lot of problems with lost bags, and ruined vacation outfits…which is obviously very stressful, and costly. I’ve finally had enough, and whether it’s a two-week European vacay*, or a weekend getaway, carry-on only is the only way I’ll travel. If you want to know how to travel light, without the hassles (and extra fees) that come with checking your bag, read on for my tips!

1. Good Luggage is Key

There’s a reason why this is tip #1. Good luggage can make a huge difference! For the past 8 (or so) years, I’ve traveled with my trusty green Heys carry-on everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I mean everywhere! Places it’s been: Kyrgyzstan (2 times), Kazakhstan (3 times), Paris (3 times), London (2 times), Italy (3 times), Spain (1 time), Moscow (1 time), New York (4 times), Houston (bajillion times), Cuba (2 times), Mexico (1 time), Mont Tremblant (1 time), Quebec and Montreal (2 times), Las Vegas (2 times), LA (1 time)…shall I keep going? My luggage has never let me down, through the cobbles of Red Square, and through the millions of stairs in Paris subway tunnels - it was always, always reliably sturdy and light.

Good luggage will expand when you need it to, will keep your clothes safe and neat, is easy to wheel around, is light, easy to maneuver and to spot. It doesn’t even have to be expensive. Granted, I am pretty biased towards Heys luggage (which is hella solid, affordable, and proudly Canadian!). After 8 years of using my cute green suitcase, I finally had to retire it - simply out of vanity (as it’s still in great condition). I wanted a prettier, newer set, and this Journey Spinner** will hopefully do the job just as well, while looking sleek and stylish.

Lucky for you, Heys is actually giving away a trip worth $5000!!! So if you want to take that new luggage out for a spin, make sure to enter here: http://www.facebook.com/HeysIntl?sk=app_250354528351779

2. Think Your Outfits Through

Now that we have the luggage covered, on to the actual packing. One of the major mistakes that people make when packing is…throwing everything in, thinking that they might need it. Well, in today’s world of baggage fees, and lost luggage, that tactic just won’t do. Before each trip, I carefully chart out the number of days, and the number of outfits per day that I’ll be needing. Something casual during the day, and something fancier for dinners usually does the trick. With that said, I still find room in my carry-on to fit everything in – be it a two-week European getaway, or an all-inclusive stay in the Caribbean. How? By thinking through each and every garment I bring, and packing it neatly.

Here are some rules I follow when packing:

Tops: 5 tops per 1 week, including at least 1 black and 1 white (or grey) for layering
Bottoms: 3 bottoms per 1 week, including a pair of jeans worn on the plane (never packed, as it’s very heavy and takes up a lot of room). I usually include a pair of shorts, and a skirt, but it’s up to you.
Dresses: 3-4 dresses per 1 week, including dresses that you can dress up or down
Outerwear: depending on the weather, bring one versatile topper that goes with everything. In the summer, you can get away with a cardi, and in the winter, bring an actual coat and wear it on the plane.
Accessories: pashmina (or breezy scarf that can work as a blanket/hair wrap), 2 belts (one worn on the plane), tights (if needed), jewelry (packed inside an evening clutch), a pair of light sock/slippers for the hotel room floor, bathing suit
Undergarments: 1 pair of undies per day, but if you don’t mind doing laundry on vacation, then you can probably get away with 3-4 per week.

3. Think Your Airport Outfit Through

This point is very important if you are planning to travel with no checked baggage. When dressing for the airport, I usually try to put on the heaviest/bulkiest items that probably would take up too much precious room in my carry-on, and would keep me nice and warm on the plane. That consists of a pair of jeans (saves lots of luggage room), a chunky sweater (it gets chilly on planes), boots (the ones that also go with dresses), a jacket (if it gets cold wherever you’re going), and a large pashmina (which you can use as an extra blanket on the plane). Try not to wear too much jewelry, unless you like to be frisked by customs officials, and always…ALWAYS wear socks! Taking off your shoes and walking through the metal detector barefoot won’t be as much of a gross chore if you have socks on, I promise.

4. Don’t Bring Too Many Pairs of Shoes

Shoes are always a touchy subject for the ladies. I’ve traveled with girls that couldn’t leave their house with less than 5 pairs of shoes for a weekend trip! Bringing so many pairs usually results in idle shoes strewn all over the hotel room, never worn once. So unless we are talking sandals or flip-flops, the less pairs your bring, the lighter the load for you, and you can still look cute! Key here is versatility.

Last time I went to Europe, I brought 2 pairs of shoes with me. One pair of super comfy high-heels that could be worn day or night, and a pair of flat sandals for long treks (and the beach). Usually, I don’t exceed 3 pairs of shoes per trip, but if it’s especially tough for you to part with your fave foot candy (yikes…that sounded kinda gross), make sure to wear the heaviest pair on the plane (obviously not if that shoe is a stiletto or something else equally uncomfortable – common sense, people). And to maximize the space, roll some socks and stuff those shoes full, so no empty space goes unused.

5. Keep it Organized

Organization is so important. I’m not saying you should go all Monica on your luggage. But, a little thought can save you a lot of hassle later on. Here are some of my organizational tips that I use on my trips:

- Use packing cubes. They don’t take up much room, but will keep your things nice, neat, and yes, organized. And when it’s time to unpack, you just have to stuff those cubes into hotel drawers – and you’re done. I got a few sets of those bad boys for Christmas a couple of years ago, and can’t imagine travelling without them!
- Keep your jewelry and small accessories packed away in a clutch or a small bag, and throw in a couple of zip lock bags in there, to keep your necklaces from tangling.
- Things that wrinkle easily should be packed at the bottom of your luggage, with less wrinkle-prone items on top. And though some experts will tell you that you get more room by rolling your stuff, personally, I prefer to lay things flat instead – less wrinkles as a result.
-Once your shoes are stuffed with socks (or other items), place those bad boys into shoe bags, so that the rest of your clothing doesn’t get soiled by dirty soles.
- If you travel with a carry-on luggage only, bring a large light purse with you. I usually bring my Longchamp tote, put a smaller purse/bag inside, with my passport and other items inside the smaller purse. And since the tote is nice and roomy, I also put my toiletries in a clear bag inside the tote, along with some reading materials for the plane, and my camera. When all is said and done, I don’t have to check any luggage at all! Bon Voyage!

So what about you? Do you have any packing tips? Share them in the comments.

*This carry-on policy will not apply for my upcoming wedding. A girl’s gotta bring her wedding tchotchkes, and other crap…but otherwise, carry-on only is the only way for me to fly!

VISA Everyday Shopper Program: Day 1

Sponsored Post

When I was approached to participate in a VISA Everyday Shopper Program, I jumped right in. After all, I already have a rewards card, and I’m definitely no stranger to collecting those sweet, sweet reward points to get the things I want. It’s so easy! So starting today, I will blog and tweet about my daily buys for the next 5 working days! And at the end of it all…I will share how much closer I am to getting that coveted HP Envy Notebook (100,000 points).

So welcome to Day 1 of VISA Everyday Shopper Program. What did I buy? Drumroll, please:

Vitamin Water – $3.25
New York Fries – $3.68
Dinner at Sushi Inn – $13.38
Post Office Fees (for my new FUJI Instax Cam!!!) – $28.24
All for a grand total of…$48.55

Hope you weren’t expecting my purchases to be super exciting today…because they kinda weren’t. But I guess that’s the thing with daily spending – sometimes it’s the most mundane and random stuff, but rewards will keep on ticking regardless of whether you spent your money on a glazed donut (mmm…donuts!), or a Birkin. Though granted, you’ll get a lot more rewards if you buy a Birkin. But then again, why the heck are you even collecting reward points if you can afford a Birkin, amirite?

But I digress. One day down, four more to go. What will I buy tomorrow, and how many points will I earn, and what’s in it for you? Stay tuned to find out! And follow me on Twitter, as I’ll be tweeting about the program using hashtag #visaeveryday!

Holidays 2011: Beauty Essentials

Some of my fave beauty products that will keep anyone cheerful and beautiful this holiday season…from head to toe!

1. Greg May Peppermint Cream Conditioner ($21.99)

Every time I use this product, I feel a happy jolt of energy that only the smell of fresh peppermint could provide…Its decidedly Christmassy scent makes me want to smell my own hair all day long (it’s not weird, I swear!), while the botanical extracts and proteins moisturize, condition and add body to my hair, leaving it soft and shiny. This one’s a keeper, ladies and gents!

2. Topshop Metallic Nail Polish ($11)

It’s pretty much a given nowadays that New Year’s eve requires the highest wattage of sparkle and shine. And with a plentiful selection of glam and glittery polish over at Topshop, you are sure to walk away beaming! Your fingers and toes have never looked so pretty!

3. Nip + Fab Eye Fix ($20)

Long nights of partying, lack of sleep, and a little too much eggnog can result in some nasty under-eye issues. Nip those circles in the bud by using this fab duo of eye cream and concealer. Works like a charm!

4. Mary Kay Really Red Lipstick ($16.50)

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been in dire need of a good red lipstick, so when I got this Really Red one from Mary Kay, I jumped for joy! The color is simply perfect, the texture is creamy, and it actually stays put. Will surely come in handy for that New Year’s Eve kiss.

5. Benefit Cosmetics Dallas Powder ($28)

Here in Ontario, the sun don’t shine from September to…well…June. So what’s a girl to do to keep herself from overdosing on self-tanner? Go to Dallas! Ok, not literally. But seriously, Benefit’s Dallas Powder is a personal favorite and an instant glowifier (yes, I made that one up). Shimmery and light, it won’t make your face look cakey and overdone…unless that’s the look you’re going for, in which case all you have to do is layer it until you achieve the desired…errr…result. See? Easy, peasy, beautiful!

What are you fave holiday beauty products and tips? Share them in the comments.

H&M Spring 2012 Collection Featuring Liya Kebede

We finally had our first snowfall here in Toronto. And just like that, I’ve decided that I’ve had enough of cold and snow for one winter. To top it off, this H&M Spring 2012 campaign featuring Liya Kebede the genetically-blessed-goddess landed in my inbox, inducing daydreams of tropical getaways, sun, sand, and extra-large fruity cocktails.
