Holidays 2014: Gift Guide

For some reason, this year, I am woefully unprepared for winter’s arrival, but since it’s practically end of November and there’s snow on the ground, I guess it’s time to snap out of my denial and start shopping. Full disclosure: I have yet to buy any presents, but I do have some ideas as to what I’ll be picking up for my loved ones this holiday season. And just in case you’re in the same boat, I thought I’d share some of my fave holiday gift ideas with you.

I glimpsed most of these back in July, during the annual holiday previews, and I have to say that this year in particular, those previews came in super handy. I got to learn about the existence of cool adult onesies, played with the Big Love Ball, and tried on the gorgeous Thomas Sabo infinity ring; I self-medicated with the all-natural Saje Pocket Pharmacy, and sipped on Inniskillin sparkling icewine. In short, I got to preview and test out a lot of the picks below, and I hope that this gift guide gives you some ideas for your holiday shopping this season. If you’re looking for stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and presents for him, her, and the kids, then this is a great place to start! Happy Shopping!

Sponsored Post

With the holiday season quickly approaching, I have begun to make my holiday shopping list. A list that includes gifts for my friends and family, house accessories for that Christmas party I plan on throwing, necessities for the family Christmas dinner, and an outfit for me to wear for NYE. That’s a LOT of shopping to do in less than 2 months’ time.

So, what’s a busy girl to do? Shop online, of course! Apart from my addiction to Homesense, where I’ll be picking up some of those knick-knacks for the house, I’ll be ordering most of the gifts and necessities from my couch, with a festive drink in hand from SHOP.CA!

Here are some reasons why I’ll be doing most of my shopping on this Canadian one-stop-online-shop:

1. Aeroplan Miles

I don’t know about you, but I’m a serious Aeroplan Miles collector. Any time I can get some extra miles for just shopping, I will jump at the chance. SHOP.CA Members who have added their Aeroplan account will receive 1 Aeroplan Mile for every 1 dollar spent. Aeroplan Members with Distinction status, including dSilver, dBlack and dDiamond, will receive 2 Miles for every 1 dollar spent. So if I use my Aeroplan credit card to order something, I’ll basically get triple the points for every purchase. Hawaii, here I come!

2. Time-Limited Events

SHOP.CA features exclusive time-limited sales on its site, so if there’s something that you’ve been waiting to buy, it’s worth it to check out one of the dozens sales going on. Deals include anywhere from 15% to 75% off, and include brands like Hunter and Fujifilm.

3. Free Shipping and No Duties

Since SHOP.CA is a Canadian site, ordering is painless. No need to worry about import duties or shipping. The price you see is the price you pay. It’s as simple as that.

4. Selection

If you are shopping for several people at once and hate the crowds, SHOP.CA is an alternative to endless lineups and screaming children. No need to run from store to store in order to get things for everyone on your list – it can all be delivered right to your door from one place! You can get anything from Pink Tartan party dresses, Cartier watches, and Sorel boots, to computers, home décor, and appliances. You can even buy shampoo!

So far, I’ve only ordered things for myself, like the KQC flat iron and Tressa shampoo (I wasn’t kidding), and I have a couple of dresses kicking around in my shopping cart, while I try to decide between the dresses and those cool Tom Ford sunnies. But soon, I’ll be filling that cart with gifts for my friends and family, and clicking the “checkout” button. Who needs Santa?

So tell me, do you plan on doing your holiday shopping online? Share your tips in the comments.

YASSSSSSSSSSSSS: Tilda Swinton for NARS Spring 2015

NARS Eye-Opening-Act-Campaign-Tilda-Swinton-Image

Forgive my immature post title, but I just couldn’t help it. NARS has just announced Tilda “Glorious” Swinton as the face of the brand’s Spring 2015 campaign, and I love this SO hard! Also, I can’t stop staring at this first of four portraits of Tilda, shot by NARS Founder and Creative Director, François Nars. Doesn’t she look FIERCE? I try not to use that word often, but she looks fierce and striking, and I’m all over this collab.

Here’s what Tilda had to say about this exciting news:  “I met François only recently when he asked to photograph me for his book, having long been an admirer of his from afar for many years. I liked him immensely and immediately and we were eager, from that first session, to do more things together. I could not be more proud to call him my colleague. Now I understand why his work is so fresh and original, because he is so bright and has such a sweet heart.”

More details will be released in the coming months, but I’m already on board. I don’t need to know what she’s selling, because I’m buying it…whatever IT is. What about you? Are you excited about Tilda x NARS? Share in the comments.

shopbop-friends-family-sale-promo-code-family25

It’s that time of the year again – Shopbop’s Friends and Family Sale! Which means 25% off almost anything on the site (with promo code FAMILY25). Below, I put together a few of my fave items from the sale – perfect holiday frocks, warm winter jackets, cozy sweaters, hot boots, and more! Events: Blogger Bazaar Fall 2014

blogger-bazaar-fall-2014-2

Last month, by popular request we held our third Blogger Bazaar, this time – fall edition. With help from our awesome sponsors (Aime by Monica Mei, ALDO, Cake Beauty, Call It Spring, Civello Salon, Dermalogica, Essence, Flare Magazine, H&M, Lovefresh, Roots, smartwater, Trend Trunk, vitaminwater, and Yorkdale), we once again had epic swag bags to gift to our attendees, who showed up at the Soho House ready to shop.

On offer, was a selection of winter coats, party dresses, designer bags and shoes, jewelry, and so much more! We mingled with our readers and our friends, sipped on vitaminwater, played with Cake Beauty dry shampoo, shopped each other’s tables, and said good-bye to our preloved clothing and accessories. It was a fun afternoon for us, and we hope that those that were able to attend enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed organizing it.

And to thank you all for supporting Blogger Bazaar, we would like to give something back! Until October 31, if you instagram or tweet a photo of your fave bazaar purchase, using a hashtag #BLOGGERBAZAARTO, you will be entered to win 1 of 2 Yorkdale prize packs ($100 gift card and a valet parking pass). You can share more than one photo for more chances to win. Sounds good? Can’t wait to see all of your photos!

Wishlist: Eddy Anemian for H&M Collection

eddy-anemian-H&M-lookbook

While most people are on counting down the days until the upcoming and highly-anticipated Alexander Wang x H&M collaboration hits the stores, here I am drooling over a different and decidedly less high-profile H&M collab. Eddy Anemian x H&M capsule collection, which will be launching in select countries (sadly not in Canada) this October, is small but fierce – with beautiful prints, cool silhouettes, and a lot of wow factors built right in. Anemian, who’s only 24 (!!!), and is still in school (visual art school La Cambre in Brussels), won the prestigious H&M Design Award 2014, and now, his eye-catching collection is heading to select H&M stores. How cool is that?

And while Canada is not on the list of the lucky countries that will be receiving this capsule collection, our US neighbours will get to shop it both online and in stores. Eddy Anemian x H&M collection will be hitting select stores and online on October 23rd, with prices starting at $29.95. Will you buy? Share in the comments!

Ever since 424 Fifth arrived at Hudson’s Bay, I’ve been obsessed. Ladylike silhouettes, high-quality finishes, and a touch of quirk – sign me up! Well, last month, I got to introduce Yorkdale’s latest lucky shopper Emily to the brand and show her three ways of wearing plaid this fall.

Shopping: La Vallee Village Outlets Near Paris

la-vallee-village-designer-outlets-paris-8

For a shopaholic like myself, a visit to Paris is never complete without a shopping spree or two. But you really don’t have to spend a fortune in order to get something memorable to commemorate your trip, there’s always La Vallee Village to help you get the most bang for your euros. What’s La Vallee Village, you ask? Well, it’s a designer outlet mall, located a quick jaunt away from Central Paris, and just a skip and a hop from Disneyland Paris, and last June, I had the pleasure of shopping there!

la-vallee-village-designer-outlets-paris-2

GETTING THERE

From Disneyland

Since we were staying at Disneyland, getting to La Vallee Village was a breeze! Direct shuttles are available from each Disneyland hotel, you just need to request one at the concierge desk. However, on our trip, we opted to take the RER instead. We got off at Val d’Europe/Serris Montévrain station, before walking through Les Terrasses shopping mall that carries all the usual suspects from H&M to Zara, as well as a few European brands that have yet to make their way to North America. Entrance to La Vallee Village awaited just outside Les Terrasses - super quick and easy.

From Central Paris

RER is a great option if you want to visit from Central Paris (destination station Val d’Europe/Serris Montévrain). The trip will take around 40 minutes, depending on where you board. But if you want to ride in style and comfort, then La Vallee Village Shopping Express is your best bet! This daily bus departs from Central Paris (near Louvre) and takes around 30 minutes. If you plan on buying a lot of things, I would highly recommend this shuttle. We took it at the end of our shopping day and loved everything about it. And the best part is, it’ll only cost you EUR22 both ways. Can’t beat that!

And finally, if you prefer the luxury of riding solo, then Chauffeur Drive might be for you. I am not exactly sure how much that service costs, but you can definitely inquire here.

DESIGNERS

For all the brand obsessives out there, La Vallee Village has a seriously great selection of designers on offer – from Armani, to Burberry, to Celine, to Valentino – if you’re looking for designer deals, this is your place. The day I was visiting, I saw great deals on Celine leather totes, Carven dresses, Kenzo leather jackets, and Marni necklaces. They even had Valentino rockstud flats in fun colours, but limited sizes. After spending what felt like an eternity deciding between a dozen cool Marni necklaces, I finally settled on just one (even though I wanted them all), while my friend picked up a travel bag from Longchamp for a steal! To refuel, we stopped by Natalie’s Cafe for some delicious lunch, before heading out again to do some more shopping.

la-vallee-village-designer-outlets-paris-5

If you’re wondering whether the deals are worth the trek, in my experience they were, but it really depends. As with other outlet malls, selection can fluctuate, and depending on the month/week/day, you can either leave with bags of loot, or with only a couple of things. Prices of certain goods aren’t necessarily cheaper for North American shoppers (don’t go expecting to buy Ralph Lauren wares for less than in the US), but a lot of European brands are. Just like with my much-adored Florence outlets, La Vallee Village is now part of my must-visit spots in Europe…and I can’t wait to come back!

Alexander Wang for H&M Campaign and Lookbook!

alexander-wang-h&M-lookbook-campaign-10

So, we finally have more photos of the Alexander Wang for H&M collection, and…I am not sure. Some pieces have caught my eye, but right now I am not drooling at the sight of these campaign images. Maybe it’s because I am not a sporty girl, or maybe because of the hockey imagery? I am just not feeling this for some reason. You? Check out the rest of the photos below and let me know your thoughts in the comments.
