Roots Spring 2012 Preview

Last week, a few of my blogger friends and I hit up the Bloor Street Roots store to check out their Spring 2012 goodies. And as you see, we all found something to love. Though I’ve always been a fan of Roots’ leather accessories, the preview made me reconsider the brand’s seriously stylish outerwear options.

First thing that caught my eye, and one that I seriously did not want to take off, was a cognac leather moto vest. How lovely is it? With a modern cut, and supple leather, it’s a perfect layering piece for any outfit this spring. And there was so much more! Varsity jackets, making a huge comeback, are available in a variety of fabrics and colors, without too many logos and adornments. Some of my favorites included a nylon jacket with leather sleeves – perfect in its simplicity, and a perforated leather vest – another item I wouldn’t mind adding to my (tiny) closet.

As expected, the collection featured a lot of bright colors, and I loved the addition of summer sandals to the shoe lineup. Not sure if Roots carried sandals before…but this year’s styles looked cute and comfy.

What do you think of Roots’ Spring 2012 Collection? Share in the comments.

Winners Spring 2012 Preview

In case you needed a reminder…it’s almost February. And what does that mean? Only a couple of months until spring! Hooray! Earlier this month, I attended Winners’ Spring 2012 Preview, showcasing some of the cutest and most affordable spring clothes I’ve seen in a while. From flirty dresses, to lovely shoes, to swimsuits-galore, to colorful denim (under $20 no less) – there’s definitely something for everyone! And I seriously can’t wait to see it all in stores. Actually, some of the pieces are already available at select locations nationwide, like the below Missoni-esque dress, which I’d spotted last week at the Bloor St. location.

I also spotted more than a few amazing high-end designer pieces, which in Toronto, should be available at Bloor St, College St, and Queen St (and Portland) locations…I certainly wouldn’t mind adding a lacy Valentino frock to my wardrobe…or a pair of grey lacy pants. Simply gorgeous!

Do you shop at Winners often? Which location is your favorite for scoring the best deals? Share your tips in the comments.

WedLuxe Wedding Show 2012

Earlier this month, I attended the first annual WedLuxe Wedding Show at Toronto’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Actually, it was my first wedding show ever, and I think after this one…all other shows would pale in comparison. From the entrance, adorned with a curtain of roses, to the beautifully decorated and displayed vendor “booths”, to the Kate Spade-inspired (complimentary) high-tea room, to the Mad Men-inspired groom’s lounge, to “The WedLuxe Beauty Boutique”, filled to the brim with swag and free beauty treatments…I could stay there all day long.

And if you’re a bride, planning a wedding, there’s no better place to meet with potential vendors, and get some awesome ideas for your big day. Some of my fave booths included, Cake Opera (macaron cake, anyone?), Cakes by Konstadin (gorgeous Russian doll cakes), cute Paper and Poste invitations, Patricia’s Cake Creations’ lovely cupcakes and beautiful cakes, Cake Museum’s artfully designed edible creations, Truffle Cake and Pastry’s everything, Whimsical Wedding Cakes’ err…whimsical wedding cakes…and so many more. Obviously, I was mostly drawn to the edible booths…and how could I not be? Those cakes, cupcakes, and other deserts were so exquisite…that it actually made me doubt my own decision to get married abroad.

This year’s WedLuxe Wedding Show was packed to the brim with excited brides, wedding ideas galore, and only the best of Toronto’s wedding vendors. And considering that this was WedLuxe’s very first show, I can imagine that their future events will be even more luxurious and fun.

Have you attended the first annual WedLuxe Wedding Show this month? What did you think? Share in the comments.

A Is For ALDO Fragrance Launch

Last week, I attended an intimate launch of A is for ALDO fragrance collection – a first for everyone’s favorite Canadian shoe retailer ALDO. The collection included 3 scents for the ladies, and 2 for the gents. With clean minimalistic design, the bottles (and roll-ons) would look good on any vanity, and they smell great to boot! Not like boots, silly! Red is for sensual and passionate people, with top notes of Icy Peach and Bergamot. Yellow is for someone who’s chic and playful, with top notes of Mandarin, Grapefruit, and Neroli Blossom. And last, but certainly not least (as it’s my fave of the three) is Blue – for sexy, glam, and seductive peeps (oh, yes!), that smells of Bergamot, Freesia, Lemon Verbena…and freshness! I’ve been wearing (and loving) it every day since the launch. True story.

One of the highlights of the event for me was meeting and chatting with the uber-stylish and cool Vyara Ndejuru, ALDO’s Director of Marketing, who answered our many questions about the new venture, and the process of creating a perfect fragrance, which in this case, took a full year! Though Alexandra Richards (daughter of Keith Richards and Patti Hanson) DJing at the event was certainly not too shabby either.

Prior to attending the much-anticipated launch, I made sure to take the Color Quiz. What’s that, you ask? Well, it’s a really fun way to gauge which scent is right for you based on your color preferences (and personality). Go ahead and take it. It’s fun, I promise!

Prices for the A is for ALDO Fragrance Collection range from $15 for a roll-on to $45 for a 75ml bottle, making it an awesome (and affordable) idea for a stocking stuffer, or a holiday treat for yourself. Stop by your neighborhood ALDO store to give it a try, and pay close attention to my tweets, as I will be doing a couple of Twitter giveaways soon.

Style Blog on Slice TV!

Today, I have some awesome (if a bit old) news to share! This past summer, I was approached by the producers of Princess on Slice, to participate in the filming of one of their Season 2 epis. NOT as the titular Princess, but as a blogger-expert, who can give Princess Sarah some advice on writing and blogging. Now that Sarah’s episode is available online, I thought I’d share it with you.

It took me a few days to actually watch this video myself…I am not very comfortable on-camera, so I had to overcome that fear in order to participate, and overcome it once again to be able to watch it. But you know what, I think I did ok. As they say, practice makes perfect, and I think I’m ready for some more practice. Style Blog the TV Show, anyone? Anyone?

Anyway, while I’m waiting for producers to call, click here to watch Style Blog’s first appearance on Slice TV! Let me know what you thought in the comments.

Swarovski Spring 2012 “Swing, Sing, and Shine” Preview

As I stepped into the Gardiner Museum’s Terrace Room last month, I was overwhelmed by the abundance of colors, sparkle and shine of Swarovski Spring 2012 collection.

Set to the tunes of the swinging sixties, the “Swing, Sing, and Shine” preview was full of bold and beautiful jewels fit for a modern woman who likes a hint of vintage styling to her accessories. As a bride-to-be, I’ve been on the look-out for some pretty bling to add to my wedding day ensemble, and I think I might’ve found it in the Spring 2012 collection. From chunky bracelets, to drop earrings covered in mini crystals, to glam mesh necklaces – there was no shortage of pieces to drool over. Some of these pieces would make amazing Christmas gifts…the only catch is…they won’t be in stores for another couple of months. Don’t you just hate waiting?

Nicola Formichetti at The Room at The Bay

Last month, the infamous Gaga stylist, turned Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti stopped by The Room at The Bay to show off the brand’s Spring 2012 collection, talk shop, and party with Toronto’s fashion obsessed. As someone who’s pretty shy around famous folks, I just wanted to snap a quick shot of Formichetti for the site, but he refused to go it alone, so Kim and I obliged, and jumped in for a pic.

With an impressive list of fashion accomplishments (and controversies) to add to his resume, Formichetti was not at all intimidating or snooty…but rather gracious, excitable, and curious, making some attendees literally squeal with delight (it wasn’t me, I swear!).

The collection, designed by Sébastien Peigné, who was also in attendance, was not as extreme as anything Gaga would wear, but the hint of “monster” sensibility was certainly present, if only made more wearable for the general public (if you’re one of those people who consider 9-inch heels wearable, that is).

If you’d like to see the pieces up close and personal, stop by The Room, and see the collection for yourself, or check out more photos from the event on our Facebook page

Battle of the Sales!

Two major MAJOR sales start this week: one at The Room at The Bay on December 3rd, and the other at Holt Renfrew tomorrow! Both promise up to 40% off luxury goods, aka some pretty spectacular deals on Fall 2011 merchandise.

LG Fashion Week: Pink Tartan Spring 2012

I can’t believe it’s almost December, and I am still posting LGFW reviews! At least, as with other spring previews, it gives you (and me) something to look forward to this winter. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

So, on to Pink Tartan Spring 2012. French tunes leading the way, attendees were in for a Riviera-inspired treat. Chic black and white frocks, striped jackets, and cigarette pants were all perfect for trotting the streets of Nice, looking like you belong.

My favorite pieces included anything striped (obviously), shiny red (or blue) pants (so fun!), and dresses that looked office-appropriate, yet dressy enough for a night out on the town (best combo ever).

Overall, Pink Tartan Spring 2012 certainly wasn’t a groundbreaking collection, but I loved it nonetheless. Most pieces had a timeless feel (save for the shiny red pants) that I’ve been needing to infuse into my own wardrobe. In my opinion, the more wearable, modern classics, the better.

What do you think of Pink Tartan’s spring collection? Let me know in the comments.

Old Navy Spring 2012 Preview

First things first. How awesome do these two look? Last week, when I stopped by the Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy Spring 2012 preview, I seriously contemplated mugging them in the nearest dark alley…not for their money, silly! For their clothes, of course!

Well, it’s all from Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy! And I’m loving it. It’s always super exciting for me to see spring arrivals, especially when they are bright, sunshiny, and make me forget about the cold, dreary months ahead. Can we just skip them altogether…or something? Unfortunately, we can’t.

But no matter, these Old Navy Spring 2012 pieces immediately take me away to a tropical destination, where I can frolick in my printed short shorts, ruffled floral maxis, gorge snakeskin-printed loafers, and so much more! Really, this entire post is for my own selfish benefit – I am, afterall, trying to shop for my honeymoon in May! And these Old Navy pieces seriously could not be more perfect. Luckily for me, most of them will be available by March. Hooray!

If you want to check out the rest of the items that caught my eye at the preview, please visit Style Blog’s Facebook Page. Spring is just one click away!

Miss Sixty Spring 2012 Preview

Two of my favorite things about running a blog are meeting people who are passionate about the industry and what they do, and seeing pretty clothes before they hit the shelves. Last week, at the Miss Sixty showroom, I got to do both! Deanna from Miss Sixty was super sweet, and as the perfect(est) brand ambassador – she wore Miss Sixty head-to-toe, making me want to check out the clothes !

She walked me through the Spring 2012 arrivals, which included a ton of pretty summer dresses, flirty tops, and of course, denim, denim, denim. My fave Miss Sixty pieces included a lace print mini skirt, pleated blue dress (below), convertible trench-dress-bolero, a couple of gorge jackets, and colorful shoe-candy! Just looking at all of those fun pieces made me feel happy, and not as depressed about the impending winter (brrrr).

I also got to take a peek at the Killah collection – a line for younger girls, but which I could totally see myself wearing in a heartbeat! Should I admit that? Either way, the Killah Spring 2012 collection was chock-full of flirty dresses, cutesy tees, polka dots, stripes…oh my!

Before this preview, I haven’t stopped by the Miss Sixty Yorkdale store in ages. What about you? When was the last time you shopped there? Perhaps it’s time for a re-visit?

LG Fashion Week: Caroline Neron Spring 2012

Even though I got to check out Caroline Neron’s Spring 2012 LGFW pre-show walkthrough, nothing could prepare me for the joy that was about to follow. The joy of a campy, yet gorgeous spectacle of floating chiffon, cascading body jewels, and ethereal headpieces, with models sauntering and gliding down the runway - giving Victoria’s Secret models a run for their money.

“Spring/Summer 2012 collection emerges from the divine nature of water, air and earth. Silk, leather, wood, metal and crystals come to life in a modern and sophisticated alliance, designed by Bijoux Caroline Neron“. As I shared with one of the ladies at the show - this is how I want to look at my wedding – dripping in diamonds, while a wind machine gently tousles my hair. Ok, not really…but the look of a shimmering goddess was so tempting, that I seriously wished I had more occasions for this kind of opulence.

As some of you already know, I am a huge fan of Caroline Neron’s jewellery line. The one piece by Neron that I own, never fails to get me a compliment, and a “where did you get it?”. Well, pretty soon, the brand will have 14 stores across Quebec, with plans to expand across Canada and internationally (in 2012-2013), so more people can get in on the action. And after attending her Spring 2012 show, I seriously cannot wait until we (the shopaholics of Toronto) get a store of our own.

For the video of the show (and trust me, you want to see it), please go to the FDCC website. Enjoy!

Man Repeller Propels Holts Muse in Toronto

If you spotted an unusual number of harem-pants-wearing, oversized-clutch-carrying, arm-party-rocking, neon-loving females on Bloor St. on Tuesday, blame (read: thank) the Man Repeller! The lovely (and hillarious) New Yorker Leandra Medine spent the entire day at Holt Renfrew on Bloor (lucky gal!) to help the Canadian retailer launch their brand new blog – Holts Muse. During the day, Medine mingled with her rabid fans, took photobooth pics with pretty much everyone, and was, as expected super fun(ny).

At the cocktail party, a few of my blogger buds and I managed to corner the Man Repeller Queen Bee, to ask her a couple of questions, and of course to take a repelling photo together. I think the result above speaks for itself, no? What man in their right mind would EVER find that appealing? Any takers? Ok…maybe le bf kinda does (because he loves me and he’s strange)…and Medine’s “man friend” might too. But it doesn’t matter – because according to the official Man Repeller Dress Code (which might or might not exist) ”if it feels wrong, it looks right”.

And boy, did we see a lot of awesome looks that night! From printed pants, to DIY neon earrings, to bunny ears, to studs, and booties, and so much more – everyone brought their inner repeller to play. Making it for a fun night of people watching, outfit snapping, and…you guessed it…photoboothing. Which by the way, isn’t as easy as it seems. Because no matter how hard (and how many times) we tried – our photos came out looking ridiculous. But I guess that’s the fun part.

If you still haven’t checked out Holt Renfrew’s new blog – make sure to do so ASAP. Trust me, you don’t want to miss the hillarious video of Leandra Medine the Man Repeller talking about “drop crotch Kool-Aid”. It’s ah-mazing!

So tell me, what’s your fave repelling (or propelling) outfit of the night? Share in the comments!

Shopping: STYLEXCHANGE | Little Burgundy

Last week, STYLEXCHANGE and Little Burgundy held an awesome Original vs. Fake party to preview their new arrivals, as well as Spring 2012 collections. Guests were treated to an abundant candy bar, stocked with my fave bad candy ever – Charleston Chew! So artificial, yet so delicious. Apart from the candy bar, there were fun moustaches and wax lips to play with, fake eyelashes to bat, DJ Miss Cotton from NYC spinning clubby tunes, and of course…a lot of eye candy for the shopaholics in attendance.

What I learned that night, is that Little Burgundy is chock-full of amazing shoes! With brands like Ash, Jeffrey Campbell, Hunter, TOMS, Dolce Vita, and so many more, the selection is straight up heavenly. You literally cannot choose just one pair…and I am still drooling over a few Spring 2012 pairs myself.

But it’s not all about the shoes at STYLEXCHANGE…obviously. The store carries Canadian outerwear brands like Mackage, Numero, Pajar, Moose Knuckles, and Canada Goose, making it a prime destination for winter coat shopping. And has a vast selection of denim, from Blank Jeans, to Hudson Jeans, to True Religion, to Miss Sixty, to J Brand for both guys and girls. Finally, a shop you can drag bring your boyfriend to, without feeling guilty that he’d be bored.

Have you ever shopped at STYLEXCHANGE | Little Burgundy? What are your favorite brands at the store? Share in the comments.

Barbara Bui at The Bay

Last week, the uber-chic French designer Barbara Bui paid a visit to The Room at The Bay to present her swoon-worthy Spring 2012 collection, soon to be available at The Room. Unfortunately, I missed most of Barbara’s interview with Jeanne Beker, so I’ll let the clothes speak for themselves.

Fall 2011 collection is available at The Room right now, so make sure to stop by and check it out in person. It really is so good!
