Easy, Breezy, Beautiful – Taylor Swift! Following in the famous footsteps of Christie Brinkley, Tyra Banks, Molly Sims, Queen Latifah, Ellen DeGeneres, Rihanna, and Drew Barrymore, Swift was announced as the new face of the beauty brand CoverGirl!

According to the press release, the 20-year-old, Grammy award-winning star has just finished shooting her first advertisements for the beauty giant, and will represent a new line of luxury products for the brand.  The ads are scheduled to debut in January 2011.

“I am so excited to become the next CoverGirl,” said Swift.  “I have admired many of the CoverGirls since I was a little girl . . . great artists and actresses who are confident and still themselves.  It’s like a dream come true to be a part of the future of CoverGirl”.

Style Fail: JLo

Ok, so I don’t think the whole outfit is a disaster…but that hair…really, JLo? Really? Looks like a cat, taking a nap on top of her head. Though this look somewhat reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw’s famous beehive, JLo’s looks way too severe and heavy! The dress is cute and I looove the necklace…but that hair, it just won’t let me pay attention to anything else. Am I overreacting?

Spring (Beauty) Cleaning

Spring time is here, which means spring cleaning of my beauty junk. While trying to get rid of the useless and half-empty products as well as organize my favorite ones, I came to realize that so much has changed in just one year…some products I don’t use any more, some are newbies that I might grow to love and cherish, and others – oldies, but goodies are still taking up their deserved space near the sink year after year. And while, I understand that what works for me might not necessarily work for others, I thought I’d share some of my old and new favorites!

1. Dove Beauty Bar

Thanks to a recent free sample, I have rediscovered the simplicity of soap bars! I’ve always been a shower gel kind of girl, but decided to give Dove Beauty Bar a go…and I’ve been hooked ever since. This soap lathers up quite nicely, and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized even before I apply the lotion! My skin does not feel dry, and I even use it to wash my face once in a while. Once I’m done with my white bar, I think I’ll try the Go Fresh Energize bar for that boost of grapefruit scent! Plus, every Dove purchase supports Dove Self-Esteem Fund, which aspires to educate girls and women about a wider definition of beauty.

2. Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub

Blackheads! Eeek. I don’t really have a problem with those disgusting black spots, and I credit this super gentle scrub. I use it daily in the morning, and haven’t had any blackheads for a while now. Hooray!

3. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

As you might remember, Al and I were invited to the Dermalogica Beauty Junkies skin class and were given some samples to play with. Well, this Cleansing Gel has since become my favorite. Love how gentle it is on the skin! Yet it leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. As I use the Neutrogena Scrub in the morning, I only use the Cleansing Gel at night.

4. Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3

Have been using this lotion for years now. Make sure you have a skin conversation with a Clinique consultant before committing to a number (1, 2, or 3), because though you might believe that you have dry skin, it might in fact be combination (and vice-versa). I always thought I’d need number 2, but was recommended a 3 instead, and have not been breaking out since. This one is a staple.

5. Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream

Another Dermalogica fave is the Skin Smoothing Cream. Have been using it for a couple of weeks now and am hooked. Rich and thick, it goes smooth on the skin, absorbing almost immediately, leaving my skin feeling lush and hydrated. Love it so much! Now if only it came with a built-in sunblock, I’d never need another moisturizer ever again.

6. The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub

I love the smell of grapefruit. And according to a study by the Smell and Taste Institute in Chicago, male volunteers cited those women with the grapefruit scent up to six years younger than their actual age. Not that I have to worry about my age, but still…pretty cool. I only bought this scrub recently, and so far, I’d say it does the job. Oh, and did I mention that it smells great?

7. Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid

Every time I make a trip to the Aveda salon, I am coaxed into buying something. I really shouldn’t complain, because the products really are top-notch, if slightly pricey. Last year I purchased Aveda Smoothing Fluid and have been in love with it ever since. At first, I really disliked its smell, but now I can hardly notice it. This super lightweight serum definitely smoothes away any frizz, leaving hair smooth and not at all greasy. This one’s a keeper.

8. Infusium Conditioner

Conditioners don’t seem to last in my bathroom. I probably have used every product on my poor hair and still I keep searching. In the meantime, I really like Infusium Conditioner for dry hair. The moment you put it in your hair, you’ll see what I’m talking about – the richness of the conditioner soaks into the hair, leaving it hydrated and easy to manage. So far, so good.

9. Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo

This shampoo is fairly new to my bathroom, I tend to switch my hair products fairly often, but I do see potential in this Organix Shampoo. Other than the fact that it leaves my hair silky smooth, I adore the way my hair smells after I use it – coconutty and tropical. It’s like a piña colada for the hair. Yum!

10. Victoria’s Secret Love Spell Lotion

It’s the good-enough-to-eat smell that keeps me hooked on this lotion. Plus the texture is silky and not greasy – just the way I like it. Have been using this lotion for years, and still can’t get enough. Perhaps, I’m in love?

11. Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector

One of my very good friends works for Clinique and is always happy to offer advice on any skin problems I might have. One of those problems for me is excessive sun damage freckles under my eyes. I’ve been pretty bad at using the Even Better Skin Tone Corrector – it’s supposed to diminish the appearance of dark spots if used with sunscreen for 4 weeks. As I’ve been quite inconsistent with application of the corrector, I can’t say that my freckles are now less prominent – they aren’t. But I love the texture of this product and will definitely try to be more consistent with its use. Perhaps, I’ll report on the success/failure of the Skin Corrector in a few months.

12. Clinique All About Eyes Concealer

As I mentioned, some of my beauty problems is dark circles under my eyes and excessive freckles underneath. Well, All About Eyes Concealer, as recommended by my friend, has become one of the oldie-goodies in my makeup bag – covers up my dark circles and freckles without making my face look cakey and overly made-up. You can still see the freckles peeking through, but I really don’t mind.

13. Baby Wipes

I used to buy Ponds and Garnier makeup remover towelettes to effectively remove eye-makeup without excessive rubbing, but at $8 or so a pop (for a pack of 20-30) they became an expensive necessity. Baby wipes are perhaps not as chic, but are definitely cheaper ($3 for a pack of 80 at Walmart) and are just as gentle. Have been using them for a little over a year now, and am never going back to the beauty brands’ towelettes. Waste of money, if you ask me.

14. Purina Maxx Scoop Small Spaces

Now I obviously know that Maxx Scoop is not a beauty product…duh! But, ever since the wonderful folks at Matchstick sent me and my cat Pepper a few coupons for the Small Spaces kitty litter, my bathroom has been smelling like roses…seriously! If you have a cat and live in an apartment or another type of small space, Maxx Scoop is pretty wonderful – clumps well, offers great odour control, and emits less dust than other brands’ litter (and I’ve tried a lot of different types!). All in all, Maxx Scoop Small Spaces has made my bathroom feel much more comfortable both for me and Pepper. If you are interested in checking it out, click here to grab a coupon for $1 off your next Maxx Scoop litter purchase. Your bathroom and your kitty will thank you.

What I Wore: On Top Of The World

I absolutely LOVE weekend brunch! Which could be one of the reasons why I’m in such a dire need of hitting the gym lately. Last Saturday, my girlfriends and I checked out a new brunch spot on Church St. that served yummy Cheesecake Stuffed French Toast…ahhh…so good (Foodie post is coming soon)! And after the gluttonous, but oh-so-delicious get-together, shopping was in order. So Al and I hit up a few shops for some shoes and office clothing (yeah, we like to live on the edge!). I’d say that shopping was a success, with 2 pairs of Aldo shoes in the bag, some Sephora goodies, a Jacob dress, and a couple of small canvases to paint something for my newborn nephew – probably a baby Tigger!

The weather was somewhat cool, and that was probably why I kept getting hot and cold throughout the day, having to take off my coat, only to put it back on in a few minutes. And now, I am rewarded with a major pain in the butt cold! Well, not literally pain in the butt…more like pain in the throat, head, eyeballs, chest, and everywhere else, including hair! I love spring as much as the next person, but this flip-floping has got to stop! Sounding like a man really doesn’t work well for me. Happy Tuesday, from my couch!

I Wore: Denim Shorts, Striped Shirt, Tights, Scarf, Shoes – H&M; Leopard Coat, Boyfriend Blazer – Zara; Bracelet – The Bay; Earrings – Chanel

Hair Love

Today, I decided to put my hair up and wear it in a milk-maid braid, sort of like this Oscar de la Renta model, except more messy and without a scarf tied in. I really want to learn how to incorporate a ribbon into my braid without ripping out all of my hair in frustration. Perhaps I’ll do it this weekend and will post later on. Any tips would be appreciated. Happy Friday, lovelies!

Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski For Estée Lauder

Estée Lauder’s just announced the addition of Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski to their brand ambassador roster. And though Jablonski is the first French girl to ever land an Estée Lauder campaign, I am mostly excited that the brand signed their first Chinese model to represent them…like ever! Aerin Lauder said, “Estée Lauder has always searched for global beauties that define a generation. Constance and Liu Wen are the beauties of our time. Both models have quickly captured the attention of the fashion and beauty world.”

I am glad that Estée Lauder, the brand that is known for such ambassadors as Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Rhoda, Carolyn Murphy, and Elizabeth Hurley, is finally introducing some diversity to their campaigns. Small step, but one that makes me just a bit more hopeful.

Dermalogica Beauty Junkies’ Group Therapy

Thanks to Faulhaber PR team, Al and I were invited to participate in Group Therapy at Dermalogica’s International Dermal Institute in Toronto. Having read numerous articles on the merits of Dermalogica’s skincare, I’ve always been curious, but not enough to actually venture out and try some. Well, last night I finally got a chance to try the full 5-step program!

The event brought together over twenty different fashion, lifestyle, and beauty bloggers, and it was really cool to meet some faces behind the awesome blogs! So after a bit of mingling, prosecco, and MACARONS (on which I could subsist for my entire life), we settled into our chairs (just like at school), put our white headbands on, and began our skincare lesson. I won’t get into too many details of what went on, apart from the fact that everyone had to remove their makeup and no tweetpics were allowed (though I must say that everyone looked great without makeup), but if you want to read about the products we used during our lesson, the full list is after the jump!

Skin MD Natural Lotion Giveaway

I’ve been meaning to post this a while ago, but yet again, life gets in the way of blogging! Well, the promissed giveaway is finally here, and it’s for Skin MD Natural Lotion - shielding lotion that is unlike any other conventional, artificial moisturizers because it works with the skin to naturally moisturize and heal. I was lucky to receive a sample from Skin MD to try it for myself, and didn’t want to write about it until I could see the effects of this moisturizer for myself.

Well, I’ve been using it for about a month now, and I absolutely love the results! This lotion is lightweight, yet it leaves my skin feeling hydrated for hours. I’ve also noticed that my skin is much softer and silkier. The right type of lotion is so important to me, especially right now, since my skin tends to get so dry over the winter months – Spring is all about renewing and re-hydrating. The press release states the following:

“Most conventional, artificial moisturizers only add moisture to the surface of the skin, but do little to repair the skin’s natural barrier against moisture robbing irritants. Continued use of artificial moisturizers can cause the skin to actually begin producing less of its own natural oils, thinking that the skin has enough moisture. This can cause skin to form a dependence on the moisturizer for hydration. Skin MD Natural breaks the dry skin cycle by working to help restore skin’s natural protective abilities by bonding to the outer layer of skin, strengthening skins natural barrier against toxins and irritants that can dry the skin, while locking in the skin’s natural oils.

Made in the US using high quality natural ingredients making it over 90% all natural. All ingredients are considered to be of food grade and are also on the FDA’s most safe list. It is free of harmful fragrances, parabens, and colorants making it hypoallergenic. We don’t participate in animal testing nor does the lotion contain any animal products.”

Natural, cruelty-free, and super-hydrating? Yes, please! Now you can also try Skin MD for yourself and see what the fuss is all about! All you need to do is leave a comment below with the following info:

1. Name and Email Address

2. The type/brand of moisturizer you currently use

3. You may also follow Style Blog on Twitter: www.twitter.com/styleblogca for more contests and giveaways

Winner will be selected at random on Friday, April 9th, 2010. One comment per person, please. This contest is open to both Canadian and International readers. Good luck, lovelies!

Lady Gaga For MAC

Gaga

It was announced yesterday that Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper are the newest faces of MAC’s Viva Glam campaign. The “From Our Lips” campaign will launch on February 25, 2010 featuring the MAC Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick and Viva Glam Cyndi Lipstick, $14 each, will be available in North America on March 18 and globally throughout the month with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to the MAC AIDS Fund, according to WWD. Lady Gaga seems like the right choice for the campaign, since previous ads featured heavily made up singers/celebrities. I think it’s right up her alley. Very curious to see the palettes!

SJP NYC – SJP’s New Perfume

sjp-nyc2

Sarah Jessica Parker is launching another perfume, called SJP NYC, based on her most famous character – Carrie Bradshaw. I do love me some SJP, but I have never been a fan of celebrity fragrances, and feel that I won’t love this one either. Although maybe I should wait until it’s released before I judge. According to WWD, “the scent, a fruity floral by Parker and Firmenich’s Honorine Blanc, has top notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus and wild red strawberries; a heart of gardenia, honeysuckle, mimosa and red rose damascenia, and a drydown of sandalwood, vanilla absolute, rum flavor and creamy musks”. Hmm, floral scents? The only one that I actually love is Flowerbomb by Viktor&Rolf.

The bottle was also designed with Carrie in mind, meant to reflect “whimsy, fun and joie de vivre” of her closet. Do not love. For some reason, the bottle screams “Ed Hardy Reject” to me, and does not at all remind me of Carrie. Sigh. The fragrance will be available at Macy’s stores in February, and will launch worldwide in May (just in time for the release of the second Sex and The City movie). Do you want to smell like Carrie Bradshaw? Are you loving the packaging? Let me know!

Xtremely Partied Out

143

This week Al and I attended a stylish soiree, thrown by Extreme Fitness and sponsored by Glow Magazine, Woman.ca, French Connection, Lacoste, Blowfish Sushi, Dermalogica, Tony Chaar Salon, and a few others. What sold us on this party was the promise of free cocktails and free sushi (What? I blame the economy and my shopping addiction). Cocktails we got, sushi not so much. With Blowfish Sushi as one of the sponsors, I’d assume that we’d at least see a few trays of yummy deliciousness passed around (saw two trays all night). I understand that it was a fitness party, but was it implied that fit people don’t eat?! We were so hungry, that when I found a girl with a tray of seaweed wrapped carrots, rice, and lettuce (is that even food?!), I grabbed one for myself and one for Al and carried it triumphantly upstairs. I almost had to fight the starving women off me, with many inquiring where or where had I obtained that precious piece of something edible.

With the gripe out of the way, I must admit that the rest of the party was a blast! Hair and makeup makeovers, eyelash extensions, oxygen bar, and skin care consultations! Gift bags, French Connection styling competition, jumping models of Lacoste, DJ Chris La Roque on the turntables…so many things to see and do! Great time was had by all. And I guess the free flowing alcohol made most of us forget about the lack of food!

On a side note, this being a fitness party and all, I finally signed up for a gym membership! Hooray! Last time I had one, I used it maybe 10 times (in 2 years). But am positive that this time will be different! I can just feel it!
