Did you watch the London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremonies? So much amazingness all at once. So many fantastic British performers! Loved seeing tributes to Freddie Mercury and David Bowie…loved Beady Eye…and of course, SPICE GIRLS!!! Zigazigah forever!
But the one thing that I was not expecting, was a tribute to the British fashion industry, as showcased by iconic Brit models Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Lily Donaldson, Stella Tennant, Karen Elson, Lily Cole, Georgia May Jagger, Jourdan Dunn, and David Gandy. Both Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell shined in Alexander McQueen, while Lily Donaldson wore Vivienne Westwood, Stella Tennant – Christoper Kane, Karen Elson – Burberry, and Lily Cole looked incredible in Erdem…who’s technically a Canadian, but whatever.

WHY WERE MODELS PART OF THE CLOSING CEREMONIES? THEY ARE NOT ACTORS. THEY ARE NOT MUSICIANS. THEY ARE NOT ARTISTS. THEY ARE LITTLE MORE THAN PRETTY WALKING HAT RACKS. THIS WAS INSULTING TO ALL WOMEN, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO COMPETED IN THE OLYMPICS OR ASPIRE TO DO THAT IN THE FUTURE. STUPID—STUPID—-STUPID!
Jeanine, the way I see it, actors and musicians don’t have much to do with the Olympics or sports either (Spice Girls have Sporty Spice, but that’s about it). I think showcasing British musicians, British fashion designers (and yes, British models too) was a way to pay respects to all things that Britain is famous for (and is good at), and brilliant fashion is one of those things. Personally, I thought it was a pretty cool addition. Though I have to agree…my first reaction was that of confusion as well. But as I said, I think this was done to showcase a part of the British culture, and not Olympics…just like Samba was part of the Brazilian part of the ceremonies.

Exactly. If they are showcasing British Fashion, who better to present the clothes than beautiful British models? I loved that those women were there and two major black models for that matter.
