What I Wore: Orange Crush

orange-stripes

I’ve been looking at this dress on ASOS for months, unsure whether to order it or not. And now, so close to the end of summer, I finally gave in, and ordered it. It’s somewhat see-through, and the back is a bit too low-cut for me, but I love the cheerful combo of these multi-color stripes too much to return it. Le bf definitely doesn’t like the baggy fit, but for me – the extra volume adds to the breeziness of this fun maxi. It’s simply perfect on those hot and sticky days. Plus, it’s not the first, nor the last piece of clothing le bf and I will disagree on.

Hope y’all had a great weekend! Let’s get this week started!

TIFF 2012: Movies, and Galas, and Actors…oh my!

tiff-2012-celebrities

TIFF 2012 is coming, and excitement is in the air! For us Torontonians, TIFF is akin to Christmas+Birthday+Anniversary+The Oscars all wrapped up in a few days of celeb spotting, film watching, and then discussing it around the watercooler with friends/co-workers/anybody who would listen. Each year, I get a few personal highlights out of the TIFF experience…like that one time I took a photo of my friend Joanna holding hands with Brad Pitt (!), or that other time, when Ryan Gosling and I locked eyes for a few seconds, or another time when I took le bf to see a Kazakh movie with a scene of a baby lamb being born…that lasted for several minutes uncut. Yes, being in Toronto during TIFF is awesome. And this year’s film lineup is looking especially promising.

Some of the films I can’t wait to check out are Argo (with Ben Affleck), Anna Karenina (with Keira Knightley), Thanks for Sharing (with Mark Ruffalo), The Silver Linings Playbook (with Katniss…errr…Jennifer Lawrence), Cloud Atlas (with Tom Hanks), Imogene (with Kristen Wiig), Inescapable (with Joshua Jackson), and the opening film of the festival – Looper (with Joseph Gordon Levitt). Ryan Gosling is rumoured to attend the festival once again, this time for his second film with Derek Cianfrance – The Place Beyond The Pines. If all goes well, I might be watching A LOT of films this September! And don’t even get me started on all the style porn! Really looking forward to seeing Keira Knightley, Rachel McAdams, Gwyneth Paltrow, and others bring it on the red carpet!

So what about you? Are you planning on attending TIFF this year? Which films are on your must-see list? Will you be celeb stalking? Have you bought your tickets yet? Share in the comments!

Stay Foolish Party at Andrew Richard Designs

stay-foolish-ard-events

Last year, I couldn’t make it to the annual Summer Industry Event held at the Andrew Richard Designs loft…and my friends would not let me live it down! I was taunted with stories of delicious lobster rolls, fun crowds, and “the best party ever”. So when this year’s invitation landed in my inbox, I made sure to clear my schedule. I wasn’t about to miss it again.

And I am so glad that I went! This year’s theme of “Stay Foolish” ensured that we had plenty of foolish/fun things to do, ranging from shooting cork guns to win a stuffed toy (I actually managed to hit a couple of targets!), drinking spiked lemonade, tossing rings, and indulging in cotton candy. Apart from the fun activities, the vendors that catered the event brought their A+ game, and yes, I must admit, that the lobster rolls were indeed deeelish (catered by e11even in case you wanted to try one).

So what I’m saying here is…next year, if you get a Facebook invite from ARD to attend this annual bash, I honestly urge you not to ignore it like the rest of the Facebook invites, that let’s face it, we all ignore at one point or another, and just go! The folks over at ARD sure do know how to throw an amazing party…and the lobster rolls will blow your mind!

Wishlist: Charlotte Olympia Luna Pump

Charlotte-Olympia-895-LUNA--1024x794

Charlotte Olympia strikes again! This time, she’s got me dreaming about her Fall 2012 Luna pumps ($985), which remind me of the Dolce & Gabbana Face Wedges I was coveting back in 2010. So basically, what I’m saying is that it’s been 2 years, and I am still really into silly, kitschy, whimsical things. Sigh. I guess some things never change.

What do you think of Charlotte Olympia’s Luna Pumps? Is it something you’d ever wear? Share in the comments.

(Yves) Saint Laurent Paris – New Logo Released

yves-saint-laurent-new-logo

When I first heard about Yves Saint Laurent being renamed to Saint Laurent Paris, I bristled. Actually, I might’ve dramatically exclaimed something like “Blasphemy!” and “Nah-uh!”. Just like thousands of YSL fans out there, I was not happy (to say the least).

But, unfortunately, the brand, the logo, and the decision are not mine to make, so…here it is – the new logo of Saint Laurent Paris – simple and minimalistic – going back to the brand’s RTW  Saint Laurent rive gauche roots. Do I like it? I guess it’s ok…But I honestly don’t think that it’s even half as good as the amazingness that was the original YSL monogram.

What do you think of this switcheroo and the new logo? Are you sad that the brand’s ready-to-wear will no longer be adorned with the now iconic YSL monogram? Share in the comments.

Style Fille: Nikki Reed vs. Diane Kruger

nikki-reed-leather-skirt

As you might already know, stripes are my jam. I wear them to work, on the weekend, to events, and to bed…if I was only allowed to have one top for the rest of my life – in all likelihood, I would choose a striped tee - that’s how much I love stripes. So when I saw Nikki Reed in her stripe-alicious outfit, and then Diane Kruger in hers…both on the same day, I figured it was a stripe-off made in heaven. So without further ado, vote for your fave stripey celeb below!

If you haven’t been to H&M lately…you really should go, and soon! There are so many cute new pre-fall pieces coming in every day…it’s hard to keep track! My favorite items so far are the black and white polka dot peplum top and pants ($17.95 and $14.95 respectively), lace pencil skirt ($59.95), and yellow trousers ($39.95)…but I have a feeling that it’s just a beginning!

What I Wore: Capri

island-of-capri-shorts

‘Twas on the Isle of Capri that he found her
Beneath the shade of an old walnut tree
Oh, I can still see the flowers blooming ’round her
Where they met on the Isle of Capri

She was as sweet as a rose at the dawning
But somehow fate hadn’t meant it to be
And though he sailed with the tide in the morning
Still his heart’s in the Isle of Capri

Summertime was nearly over
Blue Italian sky above
He said, lady, I’m a rover
Can you spare a sweet word of love
She whispered softly, it’s best not to linger
And then as he kissed her hand he could see
She wore a plain golden ring on her finger
‘Twas good-bye on the Isle of Capri

Somewhere far away, over Naples Bay
I heard a quaint lover’s story
It’s magic thrill holds a spell on me still
It’s a story old, that’s been sadly told
Down by the shore in the moonlight
How love began for a girl and a man

Nordstrom to Open in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Ottawa?!

Nordstrom-toronto-canada

A few weeks ago, while chatting with Yorkdale’s GM, I was trying to figure out whether major US department stores would soon be making their way to Canada…and looks like my fashion dreams are about to come true! Globe and Mail reports that US retailer Nordstrom is indeed slated to open four brand spanking new storefronts in Toronto (Sherway Gardens), Vancouver (Pacific Centre), Calgary (Chinook Centre), and Ottawa (Rideau Centre)!

Nordstrom is still awaiting approval from its board of directors for the four new Canadian locations as well as final documents, industry sources said.

It is believed the retailer also wants to open a store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, one of the country’s top malls with average sales of about $1,300 per square foot. The centre’s owner, Oxford Properties, was prepared to put aside a 165,000-square-foot space for Nordstrom near the mall’s subway entrance, sources said.

Nordstrom is also believed to covet the Sears flagship store site at the Toronto Eaton Centre, but Sears chief executive officer Calvin McDonald said recently he is not looking to unload that lease, which is believed to cost Sears only about $1 per square foot in rent. Sears runs its head office on the top floors of the site.”

And though the news are still not 100% confirmed, I am already doing a happy dance in my living room, while le bf is frantically hiding/cutting up my credit cards. First Nordstrom, then Saks, and then…we’ll take over the world! Muahahaha! Ok…maybe not, but it’s definitely a huge step towards more fashionable options for Canadians, don’t you think?
