Giveaway: LGFW Line Knitwear Encore Show – 10 Tickets

I know, I know…the Dr. Martens giveaway isn’t even over yet, and here I am posting yet another one. Hope you aren’t too mad at me.

If you follow Canadian fashion, you already know that Line Knitwear, was created in 2000 and designed by Toronto-based designers  Jennifer Wells and John Muscat, is in its 3rd season at LG Fashion Week and is loved by celebs and media alike. My favorite Line pieces are usually their intricate knits (duh!), but don’t be fulled by the presence of “knitwear” in the label’s name, Muscat and Wells design a range of tres feminine non-knitwear too.

So, on to the giveaway…thanks to the lovelies over at rock-it promotions,  I’ll be giving away 10 tickets…yes TEN tickets in total, to their Fall 2011 runway show tomorrow in Toronto! Exciting, right?

There are 2 ways to enter, read carefully:

1. Leave a comment, telling me why you’d like to attend the show – 1 entry

2. RT the following “@styleblogca I’d love to win @LINEKnitwear #LGFW tickets! http://styleblog.ca/?p=9402 #giveaway” – 1 entry

3. You don’t have to be a follower, but it’s always appreciated

4. This giveaway is open to Canadians only. The show is in Toronto, tomorrow at 10:30PM. Transportation to/from the venue is not included.

5. C’est tout

This giveaway is open until 11pm tonight. Good luck! All winners have been contacted. Thanks for entering!

Giveaway: Dr Martens 1461 Shoes

Actresses love them, supermodels rock them, hipsters can’t get enough of them…Lots of people I know have Doc stories of their own, and some have even kept their very first pair for years and years – after all, they are guaranteed for life!

My Dr. Martens shoe of choice has always been the classic 1460  in black. Wearing them, instantly gives me a spring in my step – mostly because of the cushy rubber soles, but also because of the air of badassery that they exude. Though, looking at the Spring 2011 lookbook, I’m seriously reconsidering my commitment to black. There’s floral Docs, and animal print Docs, and pastel-colored Docs, and armor Docs…oh my!

If you’re intrigued, now is your chance to get your hands on your very own pair of Doc Martens 1461 shoes – your choice of color and size! Excited?

Here’s what you need to do:

1. Leave a comment (1 per person, please)

2. Tell me which pair of 1461s is your fave

3. For extra entries, please RT the following: “@styleblogca I’d love to win @DrMartens 1461 shoes! http://styleblog.ca/?p=9378 #giveaway #freedocs”

4. For another extra entry, go to Dr. Martens Facebook Page and “Like” them (please mention it in your comment)

5. Again, you don’t have to be a follower, but it’s always appreciated

6. This giveaway is open to residents of Toronto only

7. C’est tout

I will pick a winner on Friday, April 8th. Good luck! And the winner is…Irina, who, like me, also prefers the classic black Docs! Congrats, lady! Email me your mailing addy, and I’ll make sure that you get your new shoes! And for all those that entered but didn’t win this time, there’s lots more contests coming very soon! Stay tuned.

What I Wore: I’m Like a Bird

When I saw Flare Magazine’s “Prom Part Deux” contest entry requirements, I knew I had to try my luck. All I needed to do was write about my own Prom, and describe why I might deserve to have another go at it. After finding out that I won 2 tickest to the Prom at the ROM event, as well as $1000 gift certificate from BCBG, I was seriously jumping for joy. But upon further reflection, me #WINNING meant that I truly did have the best worst Prom story ever. And that, my friends, is hella sad.

Not to rehash my way too long Prom fail story, here’s just a quick summary of things that happened on Prom night (and before):

- Lost luggage on my way to Prom (dress, shoes, accessories…everything!)
- Couldn’t find a last-minute dress replacement, so I went with a very simple aka blah choice
- My mom’s hairstylist gave my shoulder-length hair some major whippage, making me look very Marge Simpson (sans le bleu)
- At Prom, my first attempt at dancing resulted in a broken heel
- Best friend loaned me some shoes from her mom’s car – black rubber cloggy type monstrosities
- Oh, and since I’ve spent my senior year studying abroad, I went without a date

So you might see now that I needed another chance at Prom. After much consideration, I went with this BCBG Max Azria Runway number. It was just too perfect for twirling, and I fell in love with the pleated side-skirt-thingamajig.

So, thank you Flare, for giving me a chance to experience Prom again…this time with a great date, a lovely dress, and a pair of heels that didn’t buckle on me. One could even say that I…had…the time of my life! And I owe it all to you.

I Wore: Dress – BCBG Max Azria Runway; Shoes – D&G; Earrings, Necklace – Aldo; Bracelet – H&M; Ring – Forever21

Gap Fall 2011 Lookbook

There’s brand new snow on the ground here in Toronto, and I’m already swooning over Fall 2011 collections. Crazy world we live in, no? And since the weather is more than appropriate, I wish these Gap Fall 2011 pieces were in stores right now, rather than next fall. That jacket (above)…I needto have that jacket. It’s everything I’ve been searching for and so much more - lovely shade of camel, perfect soft/worn-in looking leather, moto cut and detailing – it’s perfection in one simple garment…and so timeless at that. Two words: Must. Have.

Looks like Fall 2011 will be all about leather, baby…at least at Gap, that is. Do you like what you see? Do you only care about spring garments now? Let me know in the comments.

More after the jump!

ck one Reinvented

You might already know that ck one has been around for YEARS now, but…this year, the company’s best-seller is evolving. ck one is now ONE brand for a few different products – fragrance, underwear, and clothing. Talk about multitasking! And to drive the point home, they’ve launched a brand new ad campaign, featuring many of the world’s top models, and shot by Steven Meisel (the original ck one photographer). In addition, the ck one website features interactive model confessions (answering questions like “What’s the best way to get over a broken heart?), and if you’re brave enough you can even upload your own!

If you haven’t tried ck one for yourself, there’s a great promo at The Bay right now – if you sign up for their Beauty Newsletter, you get a sample of ck one free! Easy as that. I, myself, haven’t really tried ck one in the past, mainly because I’ve always thought of it as a men’s fragrance…and boy, was I surprised when I actually got a chance to try it! I’m so obsessed with it, that parting with my bag of samples proved to be an exercise in self-control.

ck one is a perfect unisex daytime fragrance – it’s fresh, not at all overpowering, with subtle citrusy notes. Go ahead and give it a try, it might just be THE ONE fragrance for you.

Philip Sparks Fall 2011

When it comes to fashion, usually, I’m the one taking le boyfriend to parties and events. Not this time. This time, he entered the Philips Sparks Fashion Show Experience Contest…and won! Which meant that he could bring me backstage with him, so see the magic as it was happening! Such a lovely surprise…and WINNING!

Anyway…silliness aside, I arrived at the Burroughes building full of high hopes – it is Philip Sparks we’re talking about afterall. His first womenswear collection was a huge hit, and seeing his kick-ass cherry blossom printed jumpsuit on Anita of I Want –  I Got, I wondered whether he could give us something to covet once again…And after seeing his Fall 2011 collection, I’m delighted that his foray into womenswear was no one-hit wonder.

From head to toe, both male and female models looked rosy-cheeked, fresh and ready for a Canadian winter. Philips Sparks’ signature plaid was present, as was his newest obsession  - original prints. While Spring 2011 was full of cherry blossoms, Fall 2011 was all about the rust-colored maple leafs (not the hockey team, thank goodness!). Another highlight of the collection was the abundance of shearling on muffs, collars, and hats – perfect for our winters - so old school, and yet somehow it felt brand new.

But the definite showstopper, for me at least, was the Janelle Monae-esque lady tux. If anyone is looking for a Best (Wo)man outfit, this is it! Pair it with some sparkly Brian Atwood pumps a la Anne Hathaway at the Oscars, and you’ve got yourself a WINNING combo!

Overall, I really enjoyed the presentation, and had a blast backstage, watching all of the fashion pros doing their thing – making the magic happen right before my eyes – from shoe selections, to makeup touch-ups, to Elmer Olsen stopping by to say hello to seemingly calm Philip Sparks and his models - it was almost intoxicating. The buzz from the showroom full of journos, complaining about too many bloggers, bloggers re-connecting with their friends, Toronto fashion celebs showing off their outlandish outfits, and photographers snapping photos feverishly, was all part of the scene from the first show of this season’s Rogue Fashion Week – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What I Wore: Prada…Not

While I cannot afford a real Spring 2011 Prada dress (yet), this Zara substitute works just fine, don’t you think? I am loving the color combo and the cut of this easy shift. And coupled with the latest fave piece in my closet – the Alex Moto jacket from Club Monaco, this might just be my favorite outfit in a while. I still have to wear a coat over the jacket though…it’s just not warm enough. And apparently it won’t be getting better any time soon, we’ll get as much as 10cm of snow this week! If I ever find those lying groundhogs…

I Wore: Dress – Zara; Jacket – Club Monaco; Leggings – Aritzia; Sunglasses – H&M; Necklace – Forever21; Bag – Prada; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room)

Style Fille: Viviana Volpicella

Speaking of all things Prada, here’s a pic of Vogue Nippon’s Viviana Volpicella rocking stripes like it ain’t no thang. She’s been one of my fave Style Filles for a while now, mainly because of her contagious smile and her love for bright and colorful fashions. In that regard, Spring 2011 Prada collection is seriously up her alley. How I wish my budget allowed me to add a few Prada dresses to my closet. One day…one sweet day.

Do you like Viviana’s look? Or are you over stripes? Let me know in the comments.

Style Blog + Ben Barry Models

“I’m a model you know what I mean
And I do my little turn on the catwalk
Yeah on the catwalk on the catwalk yeah
I do my little turn on the catwalk”

Right Said Fred – Too Sexy

Don’t laugh, but I’m super-excited to share with you guys that I am now part of Ben Barry Agency’s amazing roster of models. Ben Barry Models represent fashion models of all ages, sizes, backgrounds, and abilities. Their goal? To create an inclusive and empowering fashion industry by helping brands authentically represent their consumers. We all know that consumers aren’t one size/age/ethnicity fit all. Every woman is beautiful in her own unique way, and it is imperative to have that beautiful diversity represented in the media. Ben Barry Models strive to do just that.

Last week, I finally got to have my test shoot, and I had THE.BEST.TIME! I got to style myself for the photoshoot, and I really enjoyed pulling the clothes for my outfits. I finally got to wear my Lanvin for H&M yellow dress, and boy, did I love wearing it!

And though, of course, I had a lot of fun being my own stylist/model for the day, I had a ton of help from other people…all props go to the amazing Liis Windischmann, who brought yummy snacks to keep us from passing out, provided valuable advice, and was there throughout the shoot to put me at ease, the brilliant photographer sisters Lily and Lilac, who guided me through the shoot with lots of encouragement, and of course, the beautiful make-up artist Boriana, who transformed me from blah to wa-wa-wee-wa. Thank you all for making this photoshoot an unforgettable experience! Can’t wait to see the final results of all the hard work.

As for what’s next? Not knowing is the exciting part. But if something cool happens, you’ll be sure to find out first, right here on Style Blog. Stay tuned?

I Wore: Alex Moto Jacket – Club Monaco; Striped Dress – Zara; Yellow Dress – Lanvin for H&M; Necklace – Forever21

Lise Watier Duo Glam Spring 2011 Launch

I don’t know about you, but I am not someone you’d call a makeup junkie. I like beauty products, but when it comes to my own face, my makeup regimen is pretty simple: concealer, eyeshadow, mascara…sometimes a bit of blush and powder, and some lip balm or lip gloss to pull it together.

One product I’ve had a love/hate relationship with for a while now is lipstain. I am not big on lipsticks (reapplying is a bitch), and lipgloss just doesn’t have that pop of color that my face often needs. And though lipstains offer longevity of application, what I really hate about most lipstains is the alcohol that dries out my lips, leaving them chapped and flaky! I’d rather have blah lips with no color than turtle lips. Am I right?

So when I heard that the new Lise Watier Duo Glam Rouge Infini lipstick/lipstain combo didn’t contain alcohol, but was water-based instead, I leaped for joy! Rouge Infini is lipstain on one end (1), and lipstick on the other (2). The lipstain side feels like water gliding on, and has a bit of a sparkle to it. With some lipstick on top, the final result is matte and long-lasting. 1 and 2 – it’s that easy. Two weeks later, and I am happy to report that my lips aren’t dry, and the color stays and stays and stays…all day long. Perfect for a lazy makeup reapplier like me!

Read more about Lise Watier Duo Glam Spring 2011 products after the jump!

Shopping: Levi’s Curve ID

Last week, Johanne of Fashion in Motion and I were whisked away to the magical shopping playground of Yorkdale to try on some jeans from Levi’s Curve ID line, courtesy of Matchstick and Levi Strauss & Co. It was all very Pretty Woman meets Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants…only there were no ladies of the night, and we didn’t have to share the same old pair of jeans…Ok, so maybe it wasn’t exactly like PW or SOTP, but what it was…is awesome!

Thanks to my newfound denim fairy godmother (Yorkdale Levi’s manager Grace), I got measured to find out what type of Curve I am, and though the online quiz  deemed me a Demi, Grace said that I was probably more of a Bold. Based on the fitting, I got to try on a few different styles, both in Bold and in Demi – straight, skinny, skinny boot, and bootcut.

While trying on Bold Curve jeans, I found that, indeed, as Grace stated earlier, my assets (pun intended) popped more. With Bold, I found that the waist was higher and the jeans hugged me in all the right places, while making my “humps” stand out, a la JLo. They fit snug, but not too tight, with no gaping at the waist.

Demi Curve was more demure on me than the Bold, less in your face, and more relaxed. I found that this fit really flattered my waist, made my legs look longer, while visibly shrinking my thighs. And since these jeans still fit me like a glove, hugging and enhancing in all the right spots, Demi Curve got my stamp of approval.

Just out of curiosity, I tried to squeeze into a pair of Slight Curve jeans, with mixed results. My behind looked better than ever (in my eyes), but the resounding opinion of our Ya-Ya Denim Sisterhood was that it made my bum look smaller, not rounder. Either way, the waist on the Slight Curve pair was far too low for my liking, and as much as I loved the divine softness of the fabric, I had to let it go. For girls with smaller behinds and a straight figure, however, these would be just perfect. Alas, not for me.

Levi’s Curve ID fit program was specifically designed to enhance women’s figures and curves, not to hide them, with wonderful knowledge that not all women are made the same. And for that, I am sincerely grateful. It might take a while to find that perfect pair of jeans that you know you’ll love forever. But with friendly and knowledgeable service at Levi’s, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t stop by and check out the Curve ID line. And if you’re just too lazy to try on new jeans, here’s an extra incentive for you – the sales guys are super cute and helpful! Now get that gorgeous booty off the couch, and head on over to Levi’s for your very own Custom Fitting now! It might not change your life, but it will certainly change the way you shop for jeans…possibly forever.

If you would like to try Levi’s Curve ID for yourself, head on over to Elle Canada Facebook Page to enter their denim giveaway bonanza! Elle Canada will be giving away 1 pair of jeans daily for 1 month (March 14th-April 12th). Amazing, right? Best of luck, and if you do end up falling in love with Curve ID, make sure to drop me a line!
