Shopping: Chanel Paris – Moscow Rubber Boots

Do you love Chanel? Are you a size 37? If you said yes to both questions, then you might just be in luck! A couple of days ago, I spotted these amazing fur-lined Chanel rubber boots from the coveted Paris-Moscow collection at Winners on College St. Perfect for winter! And though these beauties were deeply discounted, Chanel does not come cheap…and these will set you back $799 CAD (before tax).

These boots are definitely not for everyone, but if you do end up bringing these home, I will be eternally jealous. Good luck!

What I Wore: Are We There Yet?

WARNING: Rant ahead

I am getting serious now! Are we there yet? When will winter be gone already? I am so tired…sooo tired of the cold! I just want some warmth on my face, and for my skin to stop being blue! Seriously, my hands look like they belong to a smurf!

I’m also getting super sick of my parka…I’m thinking of organizing a “BURN, WINTER, BURN” event, where we all throw our parkas into the bonfire, dance around it, while laughing maniacally. Any takers? Anyone? So last weekend, instead of donning the usual…I wore the usual with a lighter coat on top! One small step for me, one giant leap closer to spring…or something.

Rant over.

How are you dealing with winter blues, people? Share some get-happy tips soon, or I might just curl up in a ball and cry for the rest of the winter days.

I Wore: Coat – Old Navy (courtesy of Old Navy); Top – Jacob; Shorts – Forever21; Leggings – Target; Boots – Proenza Schouler (The Room); Ring – YSL; Bag – Prada; Belt – Nine West (The Bay); Scarf – H&M; Earrings – Chanel

Style Fille: Natalie Portman x H&M Conscious Collection

Natalie Portman H&M Conscious Collection

I am 99% sure that the dress Natalie Portman (Oscar-nominee, and probably winner) is wearing here is from my favorite store – H&M. And it costs…wait for it…under $100! And while, it certainly looks different on Natasha Poly here, I think Natalie looks adorable…I almost forgot she’s pregnant.

Yet another perk of being a celeb – getting things before they hit the stores. If you don’t have Natalie’s clout and love this dress…you, just like me, will have to wait until April, when the Conscious collection is officially released.

Are you loving this dress on Natalie, or is it not your cup of tea? Let me know in the comments.

Shopping: Coach Boutique at The Bay

Earlier this month, The Bay held a little soiree at its Queen St. West location, to celebrate a new addition to Canada’s favorite department store – a Coach Boutique. There were freebies, champagne, and an overall candy-monium (ha!). Among the feverish crowds, I was able to check out the space, and though I’ve never been Coach’s biggest fan, I was surprised and delighted at the store’s selection. My favorite pieces ranged from the on-trend black leather backpack, which can be found in the men’s section, to the most adorable red patent clutch from the fittingly named youthful line – Poppy. The store itself is lovely and bright…and works really well with The Bay’s new and improved image.

If you are a fan of Coach, which I know many of you are, make sure to stop by The Bay to check it out. And while champagne might not be a daily thing at the boutique, there’s certainly no shortage of eye-candy.

For more locations, visit The Bay’s website.

What I Wore: Don’t Take My Photos!

Ironic t-shirts, do or don’t? Do you remember having those “I’m with stupid” tees? No? Just me? Oh well…looks like I’m still a sucker for a (debatably) funny shirt. Picked this one up at Zara last week. It says “Don’t Take My Photos!!”. Get it? I’m a blogger, and it says DON’T TAKE MY PHOTOS! And to convey this important message, watch me pose as if I’m really not into it – face shielded, shoulder bared, sunglasses on. I might be freezing my ass off, but at least I have my privacy, thankyouverymuch.

 I Wore: T-shirt, Boots – Zara; Cardigan, Scarf, Sunglasses - H&M; Pants – Forever21; Bag – Prada

RW&Co Spring 2011 Preview

Right in time for wedding season, RW&Co held its Spring/Summer 2011 preview earlier this month, showcasing some of their special occasions looks. As more and more brides choose to go with inexpensive, yet stylish options for their bridesmaids, RW&Co is getting in on the fun. The collection consists of lovely cocktail dresses for the ladies, and modern suits for the gentlemen. There are even bridal consultants available, ready to assist with styles, colors, and sizes. So many beautiful dresses to choose from, and the best part is – they can be worn on more than one occasion, and won’t break the bank.

What I Wore: That 70s Show

After years of skinny-jean supremacy, the wide-leg look is making a return for Spring/Summer 2011 season. And as it turns out, change does not always come easy. A couple of weeks ago, I went to Gap to check out a few of their new wide leg trouser styles. And as hard as I tried to get into the 70s groove, I couldn’t help but feel that they were all a bit too wide for my taste. I ended up buying the Curvy style, which believe it or not, I thought were flared in the fitting room!

Obviously, when I took them home, wore them a couple of times, I realized that they really weren’t as wide-legged as I’d imagined. I guess my perception was a tad skewed because of all the skinnies in my closet. Either way, after a taste of (slight) flare again, I’m getting really into it, and will definitely be going back for more. Hopefully, I won’t be such a denim-chicken this time around. So tell me, will you be embracing the 70s trend this spring? Or will you be sticking with your skinny jeans for now?

I Wore: Top – H&M; Jeans – Gap; Boots – Zara; Bag – Longchamp; Necklace – Forever21; Ring – YSL

What I Wore: Let Them Wear Cake

The very first time I laid my eyes on this Pepto-pink Zara dress, I was smitten. It wasn’t so much the color, but the promise of making any occasion, on which I chose to wear said dress, special and grand. The volume, the layers…and yes, the color, they all were reminiscent of a cake. And so, I had to have it.

For some reason, the only two times I’ve worn it was in Quebec. First time on a girls’ trip to Montreal, and this time in Mont Tremblant…wait for it…on Valentine’s Day. Appropriate, no? It’s like an insta-mood-enhancer. The moment I put it on, I feel…happier…lighter…poofier? Do you have an item like that in your wardrobe? Something that just makes you feel so good…What is it?

PS. Peep the Valentine’s card I got for le boyfriend. Isn’t it just the best?!

Converse Spring 2011 Collection Preview

It’s February, and what does that mean? Spring items arriving in stores daily! Hooray!

Last week, thanks to MB Communications, I got to check out what Converse has to offer this Spring. And I definitely liked what I saw. The main attractions for me was the Marimekko collaboration collection. Bright colors, fun original patterns from the 1960s - I’m officially in love. The Marimekko collab included a new, more feminine Chuck Taylor All Star PJ silhouette, as well as the Jack Purcell Helen, All Star, and Oxford silhouettes. These shoes are perfect for some summer lovin’, and should be in stores now.

Another amazing collaboration for Spring 2011 is Converse x DC Comics. I seriously wished I saw these pairs in stores much earlier, as they would’ve made a perfect Valentine’s Day gift! Most shoes from this collection feature both good and evil characters from the iconic comic books, including Batman, Joker, Wonder Woman (yeah!), Superman, and many others. There are so many cool pairs in that collab, but I am pretty sure they’ll sell like hot cakes. So if you or someone you love is a comic book fan, make sure to track down a pair soon, before they are all gone.

All in all, I was very impressed with what I saw. Apart from the main collabs presented, there were studded Chucks, camo Chucks, woven leather Varvatos Chucks, Jack Purcell Chucksthat James Dean used to wear, and so many more…I wish I could justify buying them all, and if I wasn’t such a high heel girl, I totally would. In the meantime, I think I know what I’m getting for le boyfriend’s birthday!

What’s your fave pair of Spring 2011 Converse? Share in the comments!

Foodie: MoRoCo Chocolat + Macallan Scotch Tasting

Last week, le boyfriend and I were invited to attend a Chocolate + Scotch tasting at one of my favorite Toronto restaurants - MoRoCo Chocolat. If you’ve been reading for a while, you probably already know that I’ve been to a few scotch tastings before, and though I am still not a big drinker, I am much more open to ordering a glass of Macallan (on the rocks) and savouring it ever so slowly.

This also was my first time pairing scotch with chocolate, and I must say that the combo is a match made in indulgent heaven. Once again, Macallan brand ambassador Marc Laverdiere led the tasting, teaching us to smell our scotch properly (mouth open), diluting the Cask Strength scotch with some water to open it up, and of course, showing us which types of chocolate go well with different types of scotch.

Both le boyfriend and I walked away happy to have participated and learned something new. It was a fun way to spend an evening together, and a great intro to scotch for someone like me, who, perhaps, has always thought that drinking whiskey was a guy thing. So next time you head out to MoRoCo or host a party of your own, consider ordering a glass of Macallan 12 (my fave), along with some yummy truffles. Way more sophisticated than a Screwdriver, and flavourful to boot. Also, check out MoRoCo’s Events Page for more chocolate tastings, and other fun events.

Beauty: Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth

A few weeks ago, I was sent a Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth deodorant kit. Not wanting to write about something I haven’t tried, I decided to postpone this post until I’ve had the chance to try it and see for myself whether this deodorant delivers on its promise. What promise?

Well, Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth anti-perspirant promises to “minimize the visual appearance of hair over time”, while providing 24-hour wetness protection. “For under arm hair that feels softer, finer and easier to remove”.

First of all, I could feel the deodorant’s moisturizing effects upon the very first application. It glided on smoothly (as promised), and didn’t leave any residue behind. The scent was fresh and very subtle. Over time, I definitely felt my skin and hair become softer…but I am not done yet. I am still using Dove Visibly Smooth, as most benefits can be seen/felt after about four weeks of use. But what I’ve felt so far – I absolutely love.

As I’ve been given one extra anti-perspirant to share with a friend, I’ve decided to give it to one of my readers. If you’d like to try Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth, leave a comment below, or tweet at me, and I’ll pick a winner by the end of next week. Good luck!

H&M Conscious Collection

This morning, when I first got these photos of H&M’s new collection – H&M Conscious, I had to do a double take. Natasha Poly, white-heavy garments, romantic and pretty. Doesn’t it remind you of Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2011 show? Same model, similar-looking clothes…but much cheaper and sustainably made. Love it so much! Once again, I can’t wait to see all these pieces in stores!

Here’s what H&M had to say about this collection:

“Sustainability is a long-term trend at H&M. This April H&M, as part of its focus on sustainability, will introduce Conscious Collection, an ongoing range for women, men and kids, made from environmentally-adapted and greener materials such as organic cotton, Tencel® and recycled polyester. H&M’s designers have been inspired by different shades of white, one of the most important colours this spring. A minimalist, tailored look is combined with romantic lace, Broderie Anglaise, frills and draping. The Conscious Collection will be on sale in all H&M stores from April 14th.”

Valentine’s Day: Gift Guide For Her

Valentine’s Day is less than 2 weeks away, and I am still stuck on le boyfriend’s gift! What to get for a man that has (seemingly) everything? Well, that’s my problem to solve (unless you have some helpful advice). And though I won’t likely be doing a men’s gift guide this year, here are a few gift ideas for the guys that might also be struggling with what to buy for their beloved (obsessed with that word).

I am always happy to get a perfume for any occasion, and if you know your girlfriend well-enough, a sexy fragrance might just be what the doctor ordered! My current faves are below.

1. Coach Poppy Perfume ($60)
Recently launched, Poppy is simply lovely, with notes of jasmine, gardenia, cucumber, and rose petals. I got a chance to try it for myself, and I must admit that I really liked it! It’s light and fresh…and simply amazing!
2. Calvin Klein BEAUTY Perfume ($89-$115)
I’ve said so much about BEAUTY already. Read all about it here to decide whether your girlfriend might love it, or check out a tester at the mall.
3. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb ($105-$185)
This is the one I use right now. The fragrance is sweet and feminine, the bottle is all glitter and glamour – the best of both worlds!

If perfume is not your (or your girl’s) thing, a few other gifts might sweeten her day.

4. Danier Red Clutch/Wallet ($39 on sale)
Perfect for a romantic dinner out, this leather clutch will hold all of her essentials and spice up her outfit.
5. Louis Vuitton Heart Coin Purse ($455)
Penny-pinching has never been so stylish! Also comes in a showstopping leopard print!
6. Banana Republic Bracelet ($50)
Don’t buy her earrings or a cocktail ring for Valentine’s Day, lest she confuse the small box with an engagement ring! That one might create some awkwardness. Get her a bracelet or a necklace instead. Banana Republic has a really lovely selection (at amazing prices).
7. Locher’s Necklace ($53-$71)
Speaking of necklaces, I’ve been a Locher’s fan for years! The designs are cute and sassy. And if your girl has a sense of humour, I guarantee that she will love it!
8. Heart-shaped Macarons ($4 each)
They are macarons, shaped as hearts. Go get ‘em NOW at my fave MoRoCo Chocolat.
9. Your Love (priceless)
If all else fails, a simple I LOVE YOU should do. Adding “just the way you are” at the end will earn you some brownie points. It is a day to celebrate your love, after all…not some materialistic holiday, masterminded by Hallmark to bilk you out of millions of dollars!!!
10. A Card
Even though I said that thing about Hallmark, most of us (ladies) would still like a card. So make sure to get her one (Papyrus  cards are amazing)! The one I got for le boyfriend this year kicks ass!

So this little post might or might not have been helpful in your search for a perfect Valentine’s Day gift. If it wasn’t very helpful, I am sorry…email me for more genius ideas. Happy Shopping!
